Tru

He’s a pivotal player on and off the field, but as college graduation looms and his need to be a draft pick heightens, he gets assigned a tutor.

But not just any tutor…

Me.

His ex-girlfriend.

And I hate him.

Despise him, actually.

We haven't seen each other since high school. And not only am I tutoring the guy who broke my heart.

I’m also his new roommate.

Vaughan

I know she hates me…

I hate her too.

I hate her mouth when it grins at me.

I hate her curves when she walks away from me.

I hate the way she smiles.

Laughs.

Yells at me.

But mostly, I hate the way that I don’t hate her at all.

In fact…

She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved.

“The Chemistry of Us” is a whirlwind of conflicting emotions — a mix of love and hate. The story begins with the fiery tension and pent-up feelings between Vaughn and Tru. They share a complicated past that Tru wants to leave behind, but now she finds herself as Vaughn’s tutor and roommate. They are undeniably attracted to each other but are set in their own ways.

At first, Tru drove me a little crazy, and some of her decisions didn’t always make sense. From the beginning, it’s clear that Vaughn’s playboy attitude towards Tru is a defense mechanism to hide his true feelings.

This is a fast-paced, college enemies-to-lovers romance. It features a mix of fiesty banter and steamy moments. The story goes back and forth from then and now, which is quite interesting. Their parents are a mess and there are a lot of secrets and lies that cause issues between Tru and Vaughn.

I enjoyed this book. I haven’t read a college romance type of book in a while. I liked how they went to each other, especially when they needed each other the most, even though they kept saying they hated each other. Deep down, there was always something more.

I really struggled with this book. It was kinda hard to follow. It seemed to jump, all over the place. It did let us know when it was then and now. But when you were reading within the designated time, it seemed to be choppy and hard to follow. I loved the characters, Van and Tru. They had tons of history together when they meet up a few years later. They are no longer friends, but frenemies. Frenemies who become roomies. They have great banter back and forth. And great chemistry. Just wish the book flowed a little better.

Rachel Van Dyken and M. Robinson, can you think of a better writing duo? I didn't think so. The Chemistry of Us was a second chance enemies to lovers, new adult romance. And it was executed really well. Vaughn and Tru were exes who ended up at the same university. Vaughn somehow ends up on Tru's tutoring schedule, and the kicker is that they end up roommates. Imagine sharing a condo with your arch nemesis.
Vaughn and Tru are both hurt by what happened in their past. It was actually a misunderstanding, but it was a big one. So the book is really learning to communicate with each other.
I loved the character development between Tru and Vaughn. They both really matured as the story progressed. It wasn't just about insulting each other like it was in the beginning. They actually started facing the past and dealing with the drama that followed them. And the spice... It was totally on par for a M. Robinson book!
Overall, if you're looking for a sexy second chance romance, grab this one! You're going to get lots of RVD banter and that M. Robinson spice we love!

Review: I have a very DEEP love for M. Robinson and her books. So when she did this one as a surprise release I read it the moment it hit my kindle. This was a fun dynamic of Tutor and student in college who also absolutely hate each other. little do you know they actually know each other and they have a pretty long and deep (no pun intended or pun intended whatever you want) history together the more you go through the book you understand why he has such strong feeling towards her and how they both have the dreaded miscommunication trope. HEA of course

Summary: He’s a pivotal player on and off the field, but as college graduation looms and his need to be a draft pick heightens, he gets assigned a tutor. But not just any tutor… Me. His ex-girlfriend. And I hate him. Despise him, actually. We haven't seen each other since high school. And not only am I tutoring the guy who broke my heart. I’m also his new roommate. The Chemistry of Us is an Enemies to Lovers, Second Chance, Spicy Romance written by co-authors M. Robinson and new to me author Rachel Van Dyken.

After reading this book, I had mixed feelings towards it.
While it can be said that co-authors Monica and Rachel did deliver an entertaining read that was Tru and Van’s story.
From the many times of laughter that came from seeing Tru and Van going at each other, throwing metaphorical punches, as well as the witty banter they shared at certain points.
It’s what made for fun times in seeing these light-hearted moments shared between them.

At the same time, it wasn’t all fun and games given the emotional side of the journey Tru and Van found themselves venturing through.
Considering the status of their relationship in the present and what it was in the past, it led to the two going on an emotional rollercoaster filled with highs and lows. All of which we were made aware of through their individual POV that opened them up to us on a deeper level. Particularly with the addition of the drama they faced that added to the further exposure of emotions and feelings.
Ultimately adding some depth to the overall story.

Even though the constant mystery alluded to in regards to Tru and Van’s relationship in the past, showing through flashbacks did frustrate me. Considering we were only given bits and pieces as the story progressed. Monica and Rachel knew what they were doing in the way they chose to write the story, seeing as they had me very much invested with wanting to continue on reading so I could finally get the answers of their relationship in the past.
As well as connecting the dots to solving how their relationship changed and went from what it was in the past to how it was in the present. Considering they were very much Enemies.

Although the story was a good read, I can’t deny the constant back and forth between past and present became a little overwhelming for my liking. Yes, it helped in filling in the gaps.
However, the fact that it occurred all throughout sometimes made it hard to stay on top of the story. Especially since there were a couple of times I was lost and wasn’t sure if I was reading the past or the present.

Overall, Tru and Van’s story The Chemistry of Us was a good read from the enjoyable moments to be found.
And although it wasn’t my fav read, M. Robinson and Rachel Van Dyken did a good job with their writing.

M. Robinson and Rachel gifted us with a surprise release recently and it was a beautiful, spicy read! (heart eyes emoji)

Tru and Van are our lovely couple and they have a jaded past, but it’s a past where the real truths haven’t been shared.

Tru is an orphan who doesn’t want to rely on her stepmom’s money because she know she’s just a trophy on display for her stepmother. So she spends her days tutoring and burning herself out. We start out with her waiting on one of her students and who else would it be? Vaughan shows up and you can instantly feel the hate between them sliding of the pages as you read.

Vaughan and his roommates have been on the hunt for a new roommate…and as fate would have it, it winds up being Tru which makes this even better.

While they have a jaded history and spend the whole story finding out and falling in love with each other again, you see how madly in love Vaughan is with Tru and all the steps he takes to pursue her throughout. They are spicy and sexy and head over heels for each other.

You should totally go give them a read!

Vaughan grew up on the wealthy side of NY / Martha Vineyard crowd. He has always loved football and wants to go into the NFL and play professionally. However, right now his senior year of college he needs to get his grades up so he can graduate and then go into the NFL Draft. Who is the study tutor he gets, Tru. Neither can stand each other, as they have history with one another since they were teenagers who lived next door to one another.

Tru grew up in the foster system. She didn't know 'love' or kindness growing up. When she was a teenager, she was adopted by a wealthy family who summered on Martha's Vineyard. They paraded her around to their wealthy friends showing her off, to show what a kindness they did by adopting her. When she moved in with her new family she was right next doo to Vaughan and his family. They became fast friends, even though at 16 Vaughan already had a 'bad' reputation.

Now that both Vaughan and Tru are senior's in college together, and now they are roommates, they must get along. They have a hate / hate relationship with each other right now. But, Vaughan needs Tru as someone to help him with his classes, and Tru needs a place to rent - aka bedroom right next to his in the condo. Both decide to call a truce and work together.

Vaughan thought Tru was hiding something from him when they were teenagers, that's why he holds so much against her. Tru never knew why Vaughan left her the way he did.

Will Vaughan and Tru be able to work out their differences?

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

I didn't mind this book - I was really annoyed at first by all the hate talk between the two, and the honestly just annoying way they treated each other. But something still kept me going and by the end I really wanted to see how the story played out. It took a really really long time before we finally understood just what had happened between these two in the past, longer than I would've liked, and the everything wrapped up nicely really quickly, but in saying that, for some reason I was still very intrigued by the story and how things would end. Not my fave, but also not too bad of a read.

Vaughan has only ever loved one girl. He thought once that she was his forever and then she lied and betrayed him, after she said she would never lie to him. It broke him in half. After that day he was never the same and hasn’t seen her in years, until one day he was assigned a tutor and it was her. Tru never understood what happened between her and Vaughan but what he did to her after their night together was unforgivable. She could never forget it. He had ruined her for any other guy and then treated her like trash. She did what she needed and that was leave. Leave him and never look back, but she wasn’t expecting him to be the next student she was tutoring.

How can two broken people, hurt by each other work together? How can they help each other when the pain is too big to forget? Just one took into each other’s eye bring back memories they were both trying to forget. Will the truth come out and will they be able to forgive each other enough?

These two authors are some of my favorite, and when they write together two world collide and it’s unbelievable. Good read.

Received this ARC for my honest review and opinion.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...

I love a good former lover to enemies to lover romance and this did not disappoint. Tru and Vaughan dated in high school and it ended badly and they unfortunately ended up in the same college which happens, but they must have the worst luck because not o lnly do they end up on the same tutoring schedule, they also end up as roommates; that is some serious karma working, just can’t tell if it was good or bad.

Naturally things are not that great at first, but things between start to pivot once they begin talking along with other things ;) I will say I’m not a fan of miscommunication in books where things could be fixed with one conversation, I guess you could chalk it up to immaturity, but still they see each on campus. The book progressed quickly so I wouldn’t it dragged out the miscommunication part for long.

More review to come.

This was a quick, tension-filled enemies-to-lovers romance. It’s not your typical tutor and college quarterback dynamic. Vaughn and Tru are exes who find themselves not only working together but also living as roommates.

I really enjoyed the jaded history between these two, which gave their dynamic a true “enemies” vibe. The reason behind their breakup is revealed slowly, and while I’m not sure how I feel about all the details when it was finally uncovered, the buildup had me hooked. The tension and angst between them built into some serious, simmering chemistry.

As the story unfolds, both characters mature and learn how to communicate. Their reunion is a slow burn, but their chemistry and the feelings they never fully got over are undeniable.

This second-chance romance is filled with passion, banter, and spice. There’s a lot of push/pull and ups and downs, which kept me turning the pages. I loved the plot overall, but I do think there were a few moments where the flow of the story could have been smoother.

The push, the pull, the hate and all the angst had me sucked in from the start and I couldn’t put the book down!

Vaughn and Tru…omg such an emotional love story! Vaughn could be a real meanie! My goodness I loved and hated the man right along with Tru! The emotions dripped off the pages. These two women always create such wild and super sexy books together so getting this story….PERFECTION!

wow

Wow, just wow! Vaughn and Tru defined the meaning of love at first sight. Even though they’re wealthy, parents pushed hard for them to be a part they were still drawn to each other. A misunderstanding splits them up for multiple years, only to meet again. Their relationship has so many ups, downs, twists, and turns it would make you dizzy. But true love wins in the end.

I loved the love/hate relationship Tru and Vaughn had. Their chemistry was so powerful and magnetic. As much as Tru hated Vaughn sometimes, she couldn't deny their chemistry. Another brilliant collaboration between M. Robinson and Rachel Van Dyken!

Look, I love m Robinson books. I have special editions and proudly display them.
But this book… I could not wrap my head around it at all. Nothing made sense. I was actually confused all the way to the end. It was so all over the place and the timelines were weird. The storyline itself didn’t make sense. Idk but this was just not for me at all

I devoured The Chemistry of Us in one sitting. It was an emotional rollercoaster that had my feelings spinning out of control. Tru & Van were everything I love about a couple who are meant to be. The drama, the hatred, the fear, the sweetness, and the firsts had me rooting for them and screaming at them simultaneously. The banter between these two had me laughing out loud one minute and wanting to knock their heads together the next. The chemistry between Vaughn and his Cinderella started a fire that simmered then raged & was so explosive that I couldn’t get enough! The pain these two felt about not belonging and abandonment showed they had more in common than they both realized. The library, the dates, the beach, the tests and what happened in the kitchen & couch are some scenes that stole my heart! They were the light to each other’s darkness and they made each other whole! Their love could not be tamed or ignored and it was swoon worthy! I can’t wait for more stories like this from Monica & Rachel!

This is THE hate to love romance. Vaughn & Tru are exes who end up living together and she’s his tutor. They have a lot of bad blood between them but throughout the story we learn what happened in the past. I don’t really enjoy the miscommunication trope and I feel like one conversation would’ve helped them realize that Tru actually had no idea what was going on. But they were teenagers so it makes sense. I did really enjoy them coming together at the end and the epilogue was sweet. Overall a fast paced book!

2nd chance, Rich/Poor, Jock/Studious, full of emotions with hot amazing spice.

We see them in college with flashbacks to 3 years ago. For me personally I think it would probably be 4.5 stars but that is because I am a petty b!tch and I think he should have groveled more and the miscommunication that caused the break up was stupid. But that is a personal thing. I often feel this way in books lol.

This is a complete stand alone and you do not have to have read any other books to enjoy this one. All the information you need will be given to you.

I haven’t read a romance in so long I’d forgotten how amazing they are. To just loose yourself in someone else’s story… chefs kiss 👩‍🍳 😘
I loved this book and read it in two sittings (damn you work).
Tru and Van are just straight up awesome characters, they have a bit of everything thrown in and I am so here for that.
I love the chemistry between them and all the angst, I think I may have a slight crush on Van now 🥰
Definitely worth a read.

I don’t usually get on well with college romance books , I think it’s because I’m way, way, way past that age .
I discovered that this wasn’t your average college romance , it was just two human beings that found their soulmate, their heart , their home in each other at an early age , only to lose it through a misunderstanding between the two of them, & lies & betrayal from others who should have always been there to protect them .

There is a fine line between love & hate , Vaughan & Tru need to fight through the hate , find who they used to be , before they find their way back to each other again .

This is such a great read, I loved every second

Tru and Van meet when they were young, so they had a history when Tru is assigned to help him improve he’s grades.
There relationship is a love/hate one, but there pull is to strong to ignore.
I must say this an amazing book, with strong characters and an amazing storyline with twists and turns.
It was late night for me as I couldn’t put it down.
A must read

The Chemistry of Us by M. Robinson and Rachel Van Dyken just popped up on my Kindle very unexpectedly and made me very happy. This was such a great book that I could not put it down and read it in one day. Vaughan and Tru had a hate to love, second chance, tudor - student, roommate thing going on. I know this seems like a lot, but trust me, it all works out. These authors are the best at what they do and can weave a story that will have you feeling all the feels. Laughing one moment, crying the next. It will keep you reading to find out what happens next.

Finding out RVD and M Robinson did another book together got me super excited! I loved their mafia collaboration! The Chemistry of Us is a college more enemies to lovers story. Vaughan and Tru obviously have a past and now they hate each other. How will they get through being roommates and a must-have tutoring relationship when they can’t stand each other? Their background was unexpected and just as interesting as their winding path together now. I enjoyed the read and hope to catch these two again in a future collaboration. I am leaving this review voluntarily after being sent a free book.

This book has it all broody jerk of an anti-hero, Smart sarcastic heroine, second chances, secrets , some humor and lots of angst, just what you would expect from both of these authors.  Vaughan is so much more than a dumb jock but he seems to only want to show that side of himself to Tru. Tru is used to being discarded and the fact that Vaughan wants to keep her is huge. Together they make the perfect couple and in the end they survived all the obstacles to have their HEA.  Highly recommend this book

Handle with Care

The Chemistry of Us is a toxic combination when not handled in a controlled environment. It burns beautifully and bright in the bubble of just them but turns toxic and problematic when they let the world in. Once beautiful, now a bitter memory, their love is gasping for oxygen.

Van Dyken and Robinson give us a redemption love story worth talking about.

I really enjoyed reading Vaughan and Tru’s story. It had all my favorite tropes included in this book such as enemies to lovers and sports. I loved their banter between the characters and that made there chemistry off the charts HOT! I really liked how Tru didn’t take any crap from anybody. She stood up for herself and tried not to let anyone get her down even with the life she was given. I really did love this book and hope for more books written by these 2 great authors!
