In Atancia, Atty discovered what she is. In the second installment of The Durand Duology, she’ll learn whom she can trust. Atty will travel the globe in search of her mother and the truth about the Durand she knows as friends.
As a child, I was often kept up at night by an overactive imagination. When I got to college, I decided to study writing so I could put that imagination to better use. I am an avid reader and rarely let a week go by without finishing at least two books. I love the way that books allow passage into other people's thoughts and let me see how they view the world. Though I have been writing stories as long as I can remember, Atancia was my first novel.
Review Wren Figueiro "For Atancia" #2 in the Durand duology
I'm so amazed by Wrens way to plot and get it down in paper and he didn't disappoint in this number two in his Durand adventure!
Number two carries on from were the first left of. Atancia is running from Ben and his family with Matthew after she learned that they wasn't all that good, and was using her for her ability to transfer energy to make money. Now Matthew and Atancia is in search for Atancias mother. While bidding from Ben and his family, the duo travel around a lot and finally finds people who can help them.
I love how Matthew is Matthew !! He is so sweet, genuine, caring and just really really loveable!! His control for his love of Atancia is just so amazing, he loves her but loves her so much to let her have her space to grow. I liked that 90% of the book is from Matthews POV. I feel that I got to know both Matthew and Atancia in a whole other level due to his very observant eyes ( again Wren, you are such a great writer)
Atancia rises to a whole new level in this book, she grows a lot and becoming an adult ( most of the time) and off course she grows in her understanding for her powers which makes the story more exciting.
This is such a great story and it's filled with passion, love, loyalty, family, betrayal, lots of action and adventure.
"The first time I felt Atancia Clark I lost my balance and fell in mud." - Matthew
Okay, wow. So after the first book, I was so sad ANd I really liked him too. But I start reading the book from Matt's point of view, and I am so shocked. I really like Matt a whole bunch more than I liked Ben. I was just hooked immediately.
Matt is a tricky character. I would have to say he is a static character though since he doesn't change from the person he was in the beginning of the book. Matt is in love with Atancia. I mean, really, truly in love. He isn't just attracted to her, but he cares about her more than anyone else. He wants to protect her and not because he feels he has a responsibility or duty to her, he just wants to protect her because he cares about her. And rather than express his feelings to Atancia and push for a decision, he is happy with just being her friend despite the fact that he wants more.
Atancia is a dynamic character, I have to say. In the beginning of the book she was so hurt and confused about all the events that has happened in Book 1.
Their relationship is easygoing. It grows on its own and I was just dying with every simple touch exchanged, and every misty eyed moment. I was just yelling COMEON!!! KISS!!!! But they didn't. And I was sad. You can really see their relationship grow in steps. From smiles, to hand holding, to A LOT of hand holding, to misty eyed moments and confessions, to falling asleep together, and then ____________ that's right. Not going to spoil it.
The book started having trouble keeping my interest at times because it just explained what happened, which was travel to a lot of places. But the small moments with Atancia and Matt or Matt and Ritter kept me hooked.
Now, the ending. Wow. SO MANY FEELS. It was VERY well done and so beautiful and amazing and OMG. Just, perfect. :') THere were a few errors, but meh. It was negligible. It didn't cause me to "stub my toe"
Congratulations Wren, you've written yourself a damn good book. FIVE STARS!!!
I got this book from the author through Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.
I would give this, the last book in the Atancia Duology, 4.5 stars! For me this second book grew immensely from the first. Don't get me wrong, I liked Atancia. But For Atancia reached the next level for me. The story thoroughly captivated me, making it impossible to put it down. And here's why:
- All the good things from Atancia were still good. I still really like Atty, our main character, as she continues to be very relatable, intelligent and kind. The mistakes she makes are, for the most part, understandable and congruent with the plot. But it was Matt I really fell in love with in this book. I already liked him in the first book, but reading from his POV (there are alternating POVs in this book, between him and Atancia) got me hooked. Ok, so what if he is desperately in love with her and can't stop gushing about it? I liked all the romance and the butterflies it brought me. - The other characters, for the most part, are also well thought and well developed. I loved the new characters, such as Ritter and Helia. They were complex and added beautifully to the story. - The premiss is still very interesting, and it was very well elaborated in this finale. There were beautiful depictions of places all around the world, and I thought all the traveling provided great pace and interest to the story. There was mystery, drama and fun, all thoughout the book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! - If Atancia, the fist book, didn't quite engross me, this one absolutely did! All the romance and mystery captured me and made this book delicious to read.
So, I would absolutely recommend this duology to anyone who likes urban fantasies, and is looking for a light romance with a little twist and great mystery.
Having enjoyed Atancia (1) very much, I'm glad to report that this concluding installment of the duology proved an equally fun read.
For Atancia picks up right where book 1 left me dangling... with one major difference: Atancia's passed the story telling hat over to her travel companion, Matt. The switch in perspective was a smart move which, for me, acted to enrich my experience of the characters: The insider development of Matt and the outsider view of Atty built upon the opposite take given in book 1 to the effect of fully fleshing each. And the gentle pacing of their emotional development (through both books) was spot on; the bond created one I could wholly buy into.
With a host of intriguing new characters, a generous smattering of tender warm-fuzzy moments and plot twists that, although certainly slamming the surprise factor, never felt nonsensical or errant, For Atancia was a well written, well developed, feel good page turner.
...And the ending does leave an opening for future jaunts through the strange Durand world...perhaps???
Ever since reading the first book in the Durand Duology, I’ve been eagerly waiting for For Atancia. Atty really comes into her own in this book. Watching her grow and become empowered was definitely one (though there were many) of my favorite aspects. Matty’s POV only adds to an already beautiful storyline. He’s every girl’s fantasy boy and it’s terribly difficult not falling in love with him after the very first chapter. The pace Figueiro set for both their relationship and the book itself was perfect. There is never a dull moment. With twist and turns, new characters, feels, and action, I would recommend for anyone who loves a series that only gets better and better.
For Atancia (The Durand Duology Book 2) was a highly anticipated read that did not disappoint! I loved the first book Atancia… debut novel for Author Wren Figueiro… and looked forward to seeing what happened next with Matt and Atancia once they were on the run! Well, I know that I had the stirrings of a book crush beginning on Matt, (the brother of Ben, Atancia’s then boyfriend) and so I was so happy to have more of him in book 2:)
(Spoiler alert- if you haven’t read book 1)The book details the journey of the young couple on the search for Atancia’s mother after fleeing from her boyfriend Ben and his family after she discovered that they were intent on using her ability of being able to restore energy (which heals and gives life) for their own gain! They were Durands which were beings that have various abilities which all centered around manipulating energy and using it mainly for “food”, although they could enjoy a good meal as well. Even in book 1 Matt (the also newly arrived half human/half Durand brother of Ben with the power with just a question, could cause anyone to tell him the absolute truth)seemed to relate and understand Atancia better, so when they went on the road, the two inevitably grew closer. Their journey takes them many places but soon danger follows them and threatens to pull them apart once and for all!
I believe one of my favorite scenes (although there were several) were the ones when they were on the road, and really discovering the other…I believe the sweetest was when Atty was teaching Matt how to make pancakes and mention that they weren’t to sizzle “like fries”…I really like Atty and her resolve to find the truth no matter what, her strength and agility to withstand all that was thrown at her…but Matt was also a favorite character, because he was so wonderfully awkward around Atty that came across sweet and endearing…he genuinely cared for her and in large ways such as leaving his entire family to go on the run to save her…to small things, in trying to make her pancakes…and keep her mind off all that she had lost…I grew to really, really like this character…
He also controlled his desire for her, one of the major acts of intimacy was to draw power from the other, and during the trip, poor Matt was tortured many a time with that desire! Lol…one of my favorite scenes was when the two made that gradual change from friendship to “more” and the intimacy they shared was made the more intense by the description of the transferring of energy, and simply how after all they had been through together by that point, came through in such devotion, tenderness and passion…it almost left me as a reader breathless!
For Atancia had everything from action, adventure, suspense, humor and passion! I fully recommend for older teens or Adults (Due to some sexual references)
I received a free copy from the author (thank you very much!) in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! I don't know what to say or even where to start reviewing this book.... It was amazing! I enjoyed this even better than book 1. Much better! I was enthralled! And I was so in love with Matt! Still am, too. I liked to read his POV and see Atty under a new light. It was so beautiful to see him and Atty growing closer and their relationship develop. It was like magic! I could see and FEEL the sparks between them that were totally absent in her relationship with Ben. And don't let me even start my rant about that SOB! I could have killed him with my own hands! I just KNEW from book 1 that he wasn't trustworthy and that he was probably hiding a really evil and sick side of him. I don't wanna say too much, though, because it'd spoil the fun fir anyone interested in reading this book. But you must know, you'll discover things about Matt and Atty that will leave you speechless! I swear, Life as you know it will never be the same! Well, I mean the characters' lives. I really liked Ritter and Veveca. Especially Ritter was so much fun! And Veveca a really good and sweet woman. The ending was so WOW!!! But I still wonder if the Evil Brothers would eventually want revenge one day... And there will be a 3rd book? Maybe about Atty and Matt being much older and with a family and child/children? 4.25 big stars!
This is the second book in the Durand Duology and, as such, continues on from the first so you will HAVE to read that one for this one to make any sense. That being said, this book is written mainly from the perspective of Matt (only one small bit from Atty) so it gives the whole thing a fresh feeling as you learn new things about the people you know.
There is constant action and 'happenings' going on as a whole but the relationship growing between Matt and Atty is a slow-burner and all the richer for that. New characters are introduced and you learn just how convoluted the Durand world can be, as family trees and relationships Durand-style are explained.
This book wraps up the Duology in a very satisfying way but I would still love to read more, both about this world, other characters who caught my eye, and of course, Matt and Atty. I'm really hoping that they are the 'Forever' couple in the Durand world and am imagining (and hoping) for a HEA for them, no matter how many bumps in the road.
Extremely well written with no grammatical errors that I found, this book - and this Duology - come highly recommended. Absolutely brilliant!
* I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review. *
Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Sep 12, 2015
I have to say frankly, I was a little disappointed with the first book. But For Atancia just about makes up for it. The author changes the point of view for the narration. This time around we hear the story from Matt's side. And it's so much better. I fell in love with Matt. He is the perfect hero. Not overbearing but protective and strong. The way he supports Atancia in her journey is sweet. Atancia herself grows as a character. She has learnt her lesson and is twice more hesitant to trust her heart to someone else. Her quest for finding her mother takes her on a journey where we are introduced to more characters and a secret about Matt is revealed. The love between Matt and Atty is developed prefectly. So much better then the first part's. The protagonists have their moments of doubts and slowly understand their feelings. No rush. My only problem was the ending fight. I thought the fight scene was a little sloppy and felt too easy. Left me wondering if was this easy then it could have been executed before. Apart from that a solid story with good writing and an interestingly refreshing plot. P.S - I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
For Atancia is the follow-up novel to Atancia. This second book is from Matt's POV. If you've already read Atancia, you know that this is not your average paranormal book. Figueiro has really created something unique with her vision of the Durand, a class of immortal who can take (and in some cases, give) energy from other living things. I loved Matt in the first book, and was excited to see him as the main POV in the second one. If you like your male protagonists to be sweet and sincere without ego, then this is a book for you. You just kind of want to crawl inside the book and cuddle with him the entire time. I read through this novel in just a couple sittings. I love it when a book makes you smile, cry, shake your fist, etc. I don't always get those emotions pulled out of me while reading, but this one delivered. Figueiro has an obvious knack for story-telling, and I can't wait to see what she comes out with next.
The second book of this series has definitely a lot more action and sets a good pace. There are some twists woven in that make sense and are well executed. Overall Wren's writing style is pleasant, however I do feel that writing it from Matthews perspective it was a little simplistic. Some of his inner dialogs were tough and sometimes cringe worthy. The part written from Atty's point of view seemed much more coherent and made more sense to me.
I was happy however to see the story come to a conclusion in this second book. It was fitting and tied it up nicely at the end.
All in all I enjoyed this book.
I have received this book from the author for an honest review.
Wow, wow, wow!!! Wren, this book is brilliant! I can't wait to read more. Durand's are such different and exciting beings, I love them they intrigue me. I won't spoil the book for other readers by posting a revealing review or a spoiler, all I'll say if I could give this series 10 stars I would. These books should be number 1 on Amazon not fifth place.
I really recommend these two books Atancia and for Antancia, they're both well written and enthralling.
I knew after reading the first book I would have to read the second one, and it didn't disappoint. This book follows a different narrator for most of the story, giving us a different point of view from the first(I won't reveal whose, because I don't want to add spoilers). Figueiro takes us to many beautiful settings, and she seems to know them well and describes them beautifully. I'm actually kind of disappointed it's not a trilogy, but I look forward to future books by this author.
