Reckless illusions

Rate this book
Private Investigator Neve Lass doesn’t investigate cheating spouses. She works for insurance companies, looks for missing people, and gathers information for researchers. And from time to time, she also clashes with Detective Ian “Jerk” Braich Jr. Ian would love to wring Neve’s neck. He just can’t stand amateur sleuths, and even less the know-it-all, feminist type. And he can’t forget he owes his worst memories to her. But one night, Neve is attacked in her own office. When Ian is assigned to the case, they have no choice but to learn to work together. But what do a dead homeless man, terrorists, and the mafia have to do with an art heist that happened twenty years ago? They’d better find the answer quickly, because their foes are as powerful as they are determined to see them dead.

This is a terrific book which had me hooked from page one. Each character is fully developed and the plot is easy to follow. Neve does not like Detective Ian and there's no love lost on his side either. Despite the cynical nature of both characters, the author creates a mystery so nail biting you would wish for time to stand still so you can finish the book in one seating.

As piece of the mystery comes together, the story becomes more powerful. Great mystery read with plenty of twists and turns. I do think with a better cover, the book may receive more attention than it is getting now.

**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.**

“Reckless Illusions” by Claude Dancourt tells the story of Neve Lass, a private investigator who searches for missing people and gathers information for others, among other jobs. She has a clashing relationship with Detective Ian Braich, Jr, an abrasive detective who has as much contempt for her as she does for him. When she is attacked one night, however, Ian ends up working the case and they have to put aside differences to find out who is behind the attack…and why.

This novel is a fast-paced read with great twists and turns to satisfy any mystery lover. I really enjoyed the characters and descriptions. Both Neve and Ian stand out for their own reasons, and they literally jump off the page with their realness. The mystery and suspense in the story are really well-done and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next. Overall, a well-written and fantastic mystery!

Reckless Illusions by Claude Dancourt is an interesting, fast-paced read with good characters. Some scenes in the book were too far-fetched for my liking which is why the book received only 4 stars. Unlike some traditional mysteries where the main character is a police officer, Neve is not. She works on her own terms and deals with the police by bringing them to her side of the court. Well, that's the way it's planned to be. She is attacked and has to compromise with Detective Ian who she recognises as a jerk.

This is where the book becomes a thrill seeker. Once the attack happens, the story moves at lightning speed and I could not put it down. Readers who appreciate a quick mystery read should enjoy this novel. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
