I can’t believe we’re still alive. I can’t believe we’ve made it this far. With the army I’ve grown, thousands of Urthmen have fallen. But more await us. More are coming. It’s only a matter of time before they reach us, before the King’s army finds us. And when they do, we’ll be outnumbered, faced with an unwinnable battle. I must find a way to keep my people—my sister and loved ones—safe. I cannot allow them to die. After winning the battle at the underground city, Avery and her soldiers have waged war against Urthmen. But word that the King has dispatched his army changes everything. She and her people must scramble to find a stronghold, a task that’s seemingly impossible. And that’s not the only challenge facing her group. Betrayal threatens to destroy everything. Will it divide the human alliance before the King’s army arrives, or will humanity prevail? Find out in this riveting fourth installment of the Planet Urth series.
Jennifer and Christopher Martucci hoped that their life plan had changed radically in early 2010. To date, the jury is still out. But late one night, in January of 2010, the stay at home mom of three girls (all under the age of six) had just picked up the last doll from the playroom floor and placed it in a bin when her husband startled her by declaring, “We should write a book, together!” Wearied from a day of shuttling the children to and from school, preschool and Daisy Scouts, laundry, cooking and cleaning, Jennifer simply stared blankly at her husband of fifteen years. After all, the idea of writing a book had been an individual dream each of them possessed for much of their young adult lives. Both had written separately in their teens and early twenties, but without much success. They would write a dozen chapters here and there only to find that either the plot would fall apart, or characters would lose their zest, or the story would just fall flat. Christopher had always preferred penning science fiction stories filled with monsters and diabolical villains, while Jennifer had favored venting personal experiences or writing about romance, as romance was far easier to invent fictitiously than it was to attain in real life. Inevitably though, frustration and day to day life had placed writing on the back burner and for several years, each had pursued alternate (paying) careers. But the dream never died. And Christopher suggested that their dream ought to be removed from the back burner for further examination. When he proposed that he and his wife author a book together on that cold January night, Jennifer was hesitant to reject the idea outright. His proposal sparked a discussion, and the discussion lasted deep into the night. By morning, the idea for the Dark Creations series was born.
The Dark Creations series was written while Jennifer and Christopher continued with their day to day activities and raised their young children. They changed diapers, potty trained and went to story time at the local library between chapter outlines and served as room parents while fleshing out individal sections of the book. Life simply continued. And in some ways, their everyday lives were reflected in the characters of the series. In fact, the main female characters are named after three very important people in their lives: their three daughters. Their likenesses end there, however.
As the story line continues to evolve, so too does the Martucci collaboration. Lunches are still packed, noses are still wiped and time remains a rare and precious commodity in their household in upstate New York, but it is the sound of happy chaos that is the true background music of their writing. They hope that their work, though penned for a young adult audience, will be appreciated by the young of every age, and that all enjoy reading it as much as they enjoyed writing it.
Sometimes you come across a series of books you just can't put down, this is one of those series. You will find your emotions pulled in every direction. You will find yourself loving the heroes and hating the villains. Each book in this series has a great balance of drama, sci-fi, thrills, horror, romance and young love. The Martuccis have created a world you can relate to.
I strongly suggest you start with th first book in the series and read the rest in order. You could read them as a stand alone but you will miss the rich tapestry of the story being told. Each book is better than the last. I don't know how #5 will get better, but I know it will.
I recommend that people young and old take the time to read this story, you won't regret it. KUDOS to the Martuccis on a book well written and a great story so far....
Avery/Azlyn forges ahead as the champion of the human race, who are relentlessly hunted by Urthmen, the mutants that resulted from the type of nuclear bombs dropped centuries ago. This series is a dystopian future targeted to young adults. Think Hunger Games. Azlyn witnessed the murder of her mother at Urthmen's hands and has learned from her father how to fight and survive. Her younger sister June is the main focus of her determination to win back the planet for humans. She's grown up without a mother, and her lack of understanding or guile when male teens show interest is entertaining. This is the penultimate book in the series.
Overall book four was an entertaining read. I enjoyed the development of Avery and Sully’s relationship and appreciated the twists and turns Avery experiences with Will. However, the plot with King Leon and Kildare was entirely to predictable. There was so much foreshadowing, I thought for sure it would take a different twist and surprise me instead of following the obvious path. Unfortunately, this is not what happened at all. The idea behind this series is so good, but I would have really loved to see the authors give us some more surprises along the way.
I have absolutely loved this series! I have one more book to go, that I will start tonight. Most series I read end up unfinished, but this series has me wanting to know more. I also adore how these were written by a couple. Thank you guys for your creativity, I hope others enjoy as much as I did!
This is an interesting distopian story about the humans trying to take back the earth from the Urthmen who were once human but became deformed during a huge war involving chemicals that made them change into strange beast like things. It will be interesting to see what happens next. This could have been the end of the series, but it's not over so I wonder where it will go from here.
Warning, tissues will be needed. Guess in any book about survival loss happens. Avery is trying to make a safe place for her family and other humans, she has realized that not all humans are go, but fights for all to be free.
The plot continues as the myth of Azlyn grows some new characters join the story while others sacrifice their life for their friends and the human race. The best written of the series to date.
Back to cheeks again. The whole book was pretty much mediocre battle scene after battle scene. The only interesting part was towards the end of the book when they went to visit King Leon, but tbh they were stupid for doing that in the first place. Oh and *spoiler* Will finally died so we have something to celebrate!! The authors tried to give him a redemption arc but he sucks so much it wasn’t working for me.

4 1/2 STARS!!!! Great book, great series. Just riveting!!! Absolutely a favorite!!!
Avery's saga continues. Avery (or Azlyn as she is called by the humans she leads) continues to struggle for survival and battles against the mutant Urthmen who rule the world. She embraces her calling fully, leading her people in battles, freeing enslaved humans. On one hand she is nearly super-human in her fighting skills, but still very much that wounded girl who has suffered and lost so much. She has to contend with personal conflicts as well as war and has many difficult and life or death decisions to make. There are no easy choices and the challenges are daunting. Can she create a new world where humans can live in peace? Will the Urthmen, led by King Leon, ever stop trying to kill or enslave them? One more book to read. I can't wait, but on the other hand it will be very hard to say goodbye to our heroine and her friends. HAPPY READING!!! Tim
She is Azlyn, Planet Urth's version of The Hunger Games' Mockingjay. She is devoted to her sister and loves a boy. She inspires faith and hope in her people as she leads them toward liberation and freedom. That is where the similarities end. Azlyn's enemies are disgusting nonhuman Urthmen who seek to exterminate all people, not subversive people who seek to manipulate and oppress their fellow humans. Azlyn's only allies are her peers, youngsters who wish to live in peace. There are no sympathetic adults who are working behind the scenes. Despite making a a few poor decisions with the odds stacked way against the humans, Azlyn, whose given name is Avery, does a fairly good job of bringing harmony to their world.
As usual the Martuccis have brought excitement, romance, and spellbinding action to life in the fourth installment of the Planet Urth series. Each book has gotten better as Jennifer and Christopher have fleshed out the characters and given us insight to the building of Avery's family. I highly recommend, not only this book, but the entire series.
Loved the book and the story. The story of humans trying to survive in a a destroyed world fighting against mutants that a nuclear bomb created. Hope we never get to this future but really liked the book. If you like books like this please read the series
The authors have a great imagination and the ability to keep you interested. Have fun reading g this series , I did
This series out does itself with each book. I find myself not able to put it down! I hope that the next series the authors write that they get the audible versions too I love to put my earbuds in while cleaning or stuff like THAT especially when they are this good and you don't want to put down highly recommend!!!!
I've loved this series since book one and this one did not disappoint. The lives of these characters all their love joy and tragedy is so well done in this story.Great read
It always amazes me how the rise of one is the fall of so many others. Even though in this case the rise of one symbolizes all of humanity. I am enjoying this journey with the characters even as I feel their sorrows as well.
I've actually read most of the books in this series before. They were just as good the second time around. I look forward to reading the one's I haven't yet read and finally getting to finish the series. I honestly don't think there was even one part of any of the books so far that had a slow and boring part. These are definitely not one of those kinds of books where you end up just skimming the page's to get through it; in my opinion. Good job and thank you for writing them!
