FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF WHEN I AM WITH YOU AND BECAUSE YOU ARE MINE
Montand’s shaded and challenging past forces Emma into proposing a challenge of her own as New York Times bestselling author Beth Kery’s The Affair continues…
The Affair Week Three
What was it about a man as damaged as Montand that made Emma say yes when she should have fled and never looked back? His intense sexual preferences intrigued her more than she’d been willing to admit. But now that she’s been privy to his secrets—including a long-ago family tragedy, and the true identity of a woman who lurks in the shadows of his mansion—Emma fears she’ll be just one more submissive conquest in Montand’s troubled life. And then abandoned like so many who came before.
She needs to be strong and protect her heart, but her desires won’t let her resist. So, if their affair is to continue it’ll be on her conditions: it will not continue indefinitely, only she can end it, and when it’s over, they’ll part and never speak again of the things they dared to do behind the locked doors of the Breakers.

Beth Kery is the New York Times bestselling author of Because You Are Mine, When I’m with You and Exposed to You.
Beth Kery is the New York Times and USA Today best selling author of over thirty novels, novellas and serials. She writes contemporary romances as well as erotic contemporary romances, her hallmarks being emotional intensity, leap-off-the-page realistic characters and steamy sexual tension.
I really liked week 3 of the affair. I felt like Beth could have dragged out some of the questions I had in my head, but a lot of them were answered. We get more of Montand’s past and it kind of rounds out his character.
The sexual tension between Montand and Emma grows strong and it keeps me super interested. I really like the dynamics because it’s not a simple relationship. Montand, now Vanni, has certain tastes and he’s exposing more of them to Emma. Emma is trying to wrap her head around it. She’s opened to new acts, but she’s not going to jump into them unless her heart is guarded.
Now the relationship has a timeline of five weeks, you can tell the stakes are raised a bit. I like how Emma pushes Vanni and I hope he continues to open up, even though it’s a slow going process, I can tell he wants Emma and her to work out (time line or not).
This story gets better and better with every installment. In this installment Emma decides to continue her affair even after finding out who he is really is (don't want to give it away). A few questions have been unanswered, but still lots more to learn and I can't wait to continue.

My Thoughts
The Story Continues. Where we left off in book 2 was a sad place - seeing the expected passing of Cristina, yet that leaves things so unsettled with Emma and Montand, especially because she's finally made the connection between Montand and 'Vanni' the man that she saw when she hid in the armoire. And if you recall, what she saw, she wasn't necessarily in agreement to.
So what we have in this 3rd installment is Emma coming to terms with what she's learned of him and deciding if it's something that she can deal with and wants. all the while the rest of her life continues to change - getting reassigned new patients now that she doesn't have this one, and dealing with her sister.
The bulk of this installment focuses on the dynamic between Vanni (which frustratingly is the only way that he's referred to in this book 3) and Emma. We see that he's trying to reel her back in and Emma's on the fence about what she's ok with. In her mind she's against the idea of BDSM yet her body disagrees. So it's really just the battle within herself that she's dealing with.
As a sub-story, we get to learn more about what Cristina's request for forgiveness meant - and why Montand is how he is. It's nice to see that there's a bit more detail around his past and it'll be nice to see if Emma's able to help him with that.
The other bit of the story is the slight continuation of things with Amanda - Emma's sister. While she know that she doesn't really care that Amanda is 'with' Colin now, she's not sure if she's able to trust her against so easily, but there's maybe 3 pages devoted to that story line. I guess we'll pick it up again at some point since i know our author will have to bring back that complexity at some point.
Given the nature of these short novellas, the only real scening and passion that we get is towards the end, just a snippet. I think that it would be more impactful in the final culmination of the book - if we have all 7-8 installments together - but at least we weren't left wanting. What Montand introduces Emma to is definitely steamy and outside of her comfort zone and it's those moments that really reel me in and make me want to continue the journey with them.
I can't wait to see what happens next since Emma's given Montand and ultimatum of sorts (an expiration date on their 'relationship) and we know that's really not going to fly....for either of them. Enjoy - and onto next week i suppose!
Part 3 of The Affair is about 4 chapters long with a bonus preview chapter at the end.
I can't stop reading this series. It's hot, steamy, and I am loving Emma and Micheal.
Emma's dreaming about Micheal and what he does to her....she can't stop thinking about him. She also realizes that she may not be amenable to his tastes. Emma makes a deal and decides to be with Micheal for the next 5 weeks.
We also learn more about Micheal's background and why he had issues with his step-mother Cristina.
Overall, a fun section to read and it left me wanting more.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Berkeley NAL for a review copy of this book.
I am totally hooked on this series & Beth Kery does not disappoint! Vanni is hot & mysterious and has me all worked up! Once again I'm hanging on the edge waiting for next weeks installment. The intensity, the chemistry between Emma & Vanni....scorching!
I was gifted the series as a set. This is a review for the entire 8 part serial- 3.75 stars
Innocent yet unconventional hospice nurse Emma Shore has secured a new position at The Breakers, the sprawling mansion of enigmatic and dangerously handsome racecar billionaire Michael Montand. Hired as caretaker for Montand's stepmother, Emma expects few complications. But one night, lost in the mansion's maze of corridors, she comes upon a woman and a man she can't identify engaged in a raw, naked interlude of sexual subjugation. Silently, from the shadows, Emma watches - shocked, appalled, and unnervingly aroused.
But Emma wonders... if this mysterious stranger is not Montand, then who is it? And what other surprises are in store for her? Night after sleepless night, she's considering the possibilities. And for the first time in her life, she's not going to run away from them.

3.75 stars--THE AFFAIR is the latest contemporary, erotic romance serial by Beth Kery. Released as an eight part serial THE AFFAIR focuses on hospice nurse Emma Shore and billionaire/racecar owner /developer Michael Montand.
Told from close third person point of view, the eight part storyline follows the building relationship between Emma and Michael. Emma’s position within the Montand household has an expiry date-hired to care for Michael’s dying step mother, Emma ‘accidentally’ witnesses Michael and another woman in a BDSM scene. Both turned off and turned on, Emma will come face to face with the man who would eventually bring Emma into his world. When Emma walks in on her boyfriend of two years having sex with another woman, Emma is free to explore what it is she truly wants.
The relationship between Emma and Michael begins as employer and employee but soon develops into something more. When Michael tells Emma he doesn’t do relationships and the only thing he can offer is sex, Emma offers Michael five weeks of sex and adventure then she will walk away. Michael will soon realize that five weeks with Emma is not enough-he wants a lifetime. The sex scenes are numerous, intimate and provocative.
THE AFFAIR is also a story of family, betrayal and letting go. There are moments of heartbreaking sorrow for a man who has lost everyone that he has loved and in return was rejected by the one person who should have been there from the start. Michael’s family is the epitome of dysfunctional and in this he is a man who will not commit to something more.
The world building brings the reader onto the racecar circuit and Grand Prix tours of Europe. The secondary characters include both Emma and Michael’s extended family members, friends and frenemies. Everyone has an agenda or a connection to the past.
The writing style is simple. There is no over the top angst or anxiety as the outcome is predictable. The BDSM premise is secondary to the storyline but it does command a good portion of the story. Michael’s persona did not scream Dominant but more of a need to control the world around him. The billionaire Dom and inexperienced sub is a familiar scenario. There are no hardcore BDSM scenes, no safe words, no anxious moments or questions of consent.
THE AFFAIR is an erotic romance storyline with a happily ever after. Fans of Beth Kery will recognize her signature BDSM storyline trope and you can’t help but fall in love with her leading characters.
The Affair is the latest serial e-book by author Beth Kery. Beth is hands down one of my absolute favorite e-rom authors. She was one of the first authors I read after FSOG, and I have been a loyal follower of all of her serials – not to mention her full length novels – ever since. I was so excited to hear she had written another serial e-rom, and I was absolutely ecstatic when I was offered an ARC of the novel in advance.
So, let me just say, I finished reading The Affair last night, and I have been on a serious book hangover all day. So much so, that I haven’t been able to bring myself to start a new book – I’m going in for a re-read immediately.
Vanni and Emma are two of the most original and refreshing characters I’ve read in this genre in a very long time. The story line is creative and compelling. Not cliché or overly predictable. Even when I thought I knew where the story was headed, the author surprised me, not once, but many times over.
Ladies, we have a new book boyfriend to add to the list. Meet Vanni Montand, the brilliant and uber sexy CEO of Montand Motorworks. Vanni’s good looks aren’t the only thing sexy about him, either. His confidence, sexual prowess, self-awareness, and dedication to his family make him completely irresistible. He’s also one of the saddest heroes I’ve read recently. Oh, there were times when his arrogance frustrated me, but just about the time I was ready to shake my head, the author would cleverly weave in some more of Vanni’s back story, and my heart would squeeze for him right along with Emma’s.
Emma is an utterly refreshing heroine. She is the perfect submissive sexual partner, and exactly what Vanni needs. Her sexy innocence is unlike anything Vanni has ever experienced, but her eagerness to learn and to please, coupled with a bit of a bold streak, leaves Vanni fixated to the point of distraction. Outside the bedroom, Emma is anything but submissive. She’s intelligent, strong willed, knows her own mind, and possesses a deep existential understanding of life and death that is exactly what Vanni needs. Vanni and Emma are indisputably one of my favorite couples of 2014.
In addition to creating extraordinary characters, Beth Kery tells an extraordinary story as well. Her voice is fresh and intelligent, her challenging (at times) vocabulary, and her ability to paint a scene are brilliant. She has an incredible gift for putting the reader right in the scene along with the characters – color, texture, taste, smell and sound – she hits all the senses remarkably.
Week 4 just released today (October 7). If you haven’t been following this extraordinary love story, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
The first book sets the scene and we get to know Emma. She's a caring and responsible hospice nurse who will do what is in the best interest of her patient even if it means breaking her new clients rules. Her new client is a mystery, she deals with the manager of the house mostly, a snobby and rude woman who loves to flaunt her power. Emma's patient is a bit of a mystery too, through gossip in the house rather than fact, Emma finds out the client, Michael Montand, dislikes her patient but if that's the case why is he supporting her through her dying days? Breaking the rules applied by Montand, Emma is an accidental voyeur in a scene involving a woman and a man she doesn't recognise. Events in Emma's personal life leave her shaken. She has been the rock supporting her sister throughout her education, always putting others first. She takes Montand up on an offer she would never normally consider and starts on an exciting affair. Both Emma and Montand evolve through the 8 books, one realising they can't do temporary and no strings attached and the other fighting their determination to stay unattached. Even though the both parties change and they get closer, falling in love, they still felt a little detached to me. It didn't feel like the all encompassing love it was trying to be. I did enjoy the story, the background on the two characters explained their current frames of mind well, there was a good twist with the housekeeper too. A pleasant story spread over 8 bitesized chunks.
Book 8, the finale is out this week and I LOVED this serial THE AFFAIR! This is probably my favorite of her recent romances! Highly recommend THE AFFAIR in either the current weekly installments or when it's a full book. Review to come soon at www.bookcrack.com.
I'm a long time fan of Beth Kery (who previously wrote under the pen name Bethany Kane). This series sparks a love and enjoyment, for me, like her ONE NIGHT of PASSION series. However, unlike Kery's other two best selling ongoing series, the One Night of Passion and Because You are Mine series, BDSM appears briefly in THE AFFAIR, as a sexual factor for the hero and again later for the couple in this novella series, which I'll avoid for spoilery sake, but it's NOT a major factor in this romance, as it is often a major part in her other erotic series. I really enjoyed the unique way Kery introduced the possibility of it, but made it less a factor. The erotic scenes are 5 STAR..of which Kery is a MASTER, with kink or w/o she delivers every.time.
Really enjoying the heroine's POV (she feels more emotionally relatable than those in her NY Times best selling BDSM novels IMHO) and the hero, as well, who is rich, demanding and alpha awesome, but he comes with a developing lack of selfishness that he's surprised he possesses amidst the family turmoil/past trauma he's enduring, and it makes him one of the more likable of her heroes, much like those in her Passion series.
✦Spotlight & Review: The Affair by Beth Kery http://wp.me/p3d0RZ-1Jq Publication Date: November 4, 2014 Reviewed by: Reading in Pajamas/ Cori Rated: 5 Stars
REVIEW: Seriously hot romance! I love erotic romances with stong alpha males and Montand is one of the ultimate alphas. He's a powerful billionaire use to getting anything he wants and Emma is a nurse that draws his interest and fascinates him. This story was fast paced and kept me up all night reading it. I couldn't put it down. This was a well written romance filled with mystery, suspense and scorching hot romance. Beth Kery described the characters and delivered their story in such a way that made me feel their emotions and experience their story along with them. The Affair is an eight part serial that I read all at once. I recommend getting them all and reading them back to back as one story. This book is on my favorites romances of 2014 list and I really hope Beth Kery will be writing about another character in this book. I think Montand's cousin deserves his own story.

Firstly thank you to Headline for approving me for a copy of this title via NetGalley. This is the third instalment in Beth Kery’s The Affair series and you can find my reviews of part 1 and part 2 by clicking the link.
Emma, and readers, were blindsided a bit by the revelation that Michael and Vanni are the same person. It’s was a shock at the end of the 2nd part I think partly because you were always waiting to find out but also because Michael had started to show this gentle side of himself that is at complete odds with what Emma knows of Vanni. This 3rd instalment continues in the same vein unveiling some more of Vanni’s secrets both family and personal.
Vanni and his proposition are irresistible and I really love how much Emma is attracted to him. You’re given a taste in this instalment of how their affair with its imposed time limit of 8 weeks, is already boiling over with attraction and intense feeling and I also started to feel like it was about to get way more complicated than either of them think. Can’t wait to read the next week.
In this installment/episode ... Week 3 things heat up quiet a bit!!
We were all a little blindsided by the fact that Micheal and Vanni are one in the same (yep Shocked). Ok so i wasn't completely shocked but i was surprised because Micheal seemed so very different from Vanni, we saw a softer side of his persona. Emma has a hard time accepting this after what she witnessed between Vanni and Astrid.
Secrets are brought to light, we all knew that Cristina and her step sons relationship was not ideal and we find out exactly what happened in this installment. Emma and Micheal grow closer, they continue their affair and things get super HOT in the bedroom.
Emma keeps her control by telling Micheal that she will continue with the affair but she must determine the end. She says that she will give him 5 weeks ...
This will most definitely be 5 weeks she will never forget!!
Another series in this book down. I quite liked this one - especially learning more about Michael / Vanni's brother. However, it really bothers me how naive Emma is. She's almost like a child to the point that even having her hands restrained is horrible to her - not that she found it horrible, but that the thought seemed horrible. Sometimes I wish these types of books were written about real adults rather than these 20-something girls - they always over exaggerate. But I'm kind fond of Michael and hope he can straighten her out.
I really enjoy the fact that the book goes back and forth narratively between Emma and Montand. Sometimes I read books that never tell you what the man is thinking in these situations and I think it is really hot when you hear how much he wants her and how she is changing him just by being herself and different than anything he has seen. This book answered a few more questions that were hinted at in the previous books but I also like how it creates more. I am really worried I am not going to like the ending of this series but we shall see.
I like the main idea, how heroine and the hero met, and how they interact with each other. I also like the heroine ad the hero's characters. It is interesting, especially the heroine's. But I find that the development of their relationship is flowing not too smoothly... There's some part where it's too slow and another part is too fast. There's also some part that isn't match with the other.
I'm liking this story, but I do not like these 5 chapter tidbits. Why not just write the whole story and put it out? I mean I know why, for more money. Just stop doing this with all of your stories Beth Kery and write the whole book and release it! I'm waiting until it comes out as one book to finish this book, even if I am chomping at the bit to read the next installment.
disappointed :( week 2 was the best this week is mainly the funeral and the end is ok the 3rd week is just the beginning hopefully to a better week i wondered how Beth can make you anticipate from only 50 pages but this was longer about 200 but not quite the same
We're getting there! Slowly but surely! I find Vanni to be a great alpha male that's honest and not too controlling. Emma seems natural and genuine. Not a pushover, but demure enough to compliment Vanni's alpha attitude. So far a good heroine to get behind.
