Joey Pagliano (Jersey Mob boss) opened the trunk & pulled the body out onto the gravel driveway. That’s the 3rd one this month Eli Braken told him.
It was getting tougher to hide the corpse in Miami, FL.
Flamingo Key a deserted island might be a good spot.
Cody Braken (son) was out fishing.
Bill McLean (building inspector) was inspecting Will’s building permit.

What did Cody, & Joey have in common.
What did Will, & Sheryl (building dept.) discover?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. 3 very well written crime thriller books. They were all very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. They could all make great crime thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I've enjoyed the Mac Travis books, and thought I'd give Will Service a try. Enjoyed the story for the most part, but spent much of it scratching my head. Both series of books are from the same timeframe, yet the overlapping characters seemed like they were from another dimension or something. Familiar, yet not the same people from one series to the other. Maybe this is a problem just with the Kindle version, but I found quite a few grammar problems in this book.

When we last saw Pagliano he was in the sheriff's custody being hauled away. By the epilogue, he was missing with a warrant out for his arrest. Yet there's no mention? Did he escape? Get put on bail after being charged with murder? What happened to him?????

Will Service is closer to Clark Kent than he is to Superman, but he knows how to approach a problem head on. He runs a fishing charter down in the Keys. A crooked real estate developer wants to put condos on one of the small Keys, which would ruin fishing for everyone. There is a small complication in the the New Jersey mob is using that Key to dispose of bodies. Naturally, Will has to get involved and make himself a target for the bad guys. Interesting read and I will definitely read more books by this author.

Bonefish Blues (Will Service book #1)

Will is struggling to Survive and make ends meet as a catch and release charter fishing Captain. In his way, the Bracken family and a mobster named Joey. At stake, his unfinished home and his way of life in the keys. A newly found aid in the building departments permits section, brings success and a new love in Will's life. Thanks for letting me know a new character and more about life in the Florida keys.

Not his best writing

I read this several years ago and now find myself caught up with all of the really good tropical authors and scanned what I have not read of Steven Becker. this is not his best work. The last chapters where they are closing in on the bad guys is just a jumble of weird events. I think a good editor could have smoothed all this out and made it flow better and be more real. But I'll read the next.....Beckers character with Biscayne Park was much better.

Sounded great- a mystery set in the Florida Keys. Liked learning more about the Florida Keys and real estate shenanigans. Liked in badass female character. But situations were too contrived, bad guys too bad, and reactions to terrible situations weren’t human enough.

But something has me wanting to read the next book in the series to see how things are going!

Steven Becker is an excellent author, his books are an easy fast read that keeps you entertained and wanting to finish the book so you can see what happens next. This series is going to be as good as his other ones.

Good story line, however every other page or two in the entire series is blank. That is very annoying frustrating.

Another great book from Steven Becker set in the Key's off tip of Florida. Steve writes like Clive Cussler and this Bonefish Blues was a great one. I love his writing and think you will too.

Excellent Adventure!

Loved the storyline and the characters were.real, not super heroes. This made the story more realistic. Knowledge of the Keys was great and I felt I was there!

Ok story about Will, our good guy fishing charter guide, against obviously, not very well concealed evil doers. It all simply works out in the end….very simply.

Key Change

Will Service is a native of the Florida Keys. Just getting by as a sometime master carpenter and sometime environmental charter fishing guide, he takes life as it comes. But now he has two problems -- he could lose his house he has been building for five years if he doesn't update his permits and his main charter fishing rival may be up to something nefarious. Cody Bracken is an sleazy, boozing ne'er-do-well whose "take-it-all" charter fishing business is successful only because his father, a former judge and local bigshot throws business his way. He abuses his ex-wife and son Matt, who looks to Will for friendship.

When Will becomes suspicious of the activity around deserted Flamingo Key, he discovers a shady land deal involving the Brackens and New Jersey mobsters that leads to murder, kidnapping and the disruption of his peaceful island lifestyle. This book is not a convoluted conspiracy thriller. Instead, it is a breezy, sit-back-and-relax story perfect for the reader who wants to get away from it all and spend a few hours with colorful characters in a place tourists visit but never really see beyond the surface. Well done!

Becker is a quality writer and Bonefish Blues is a quick, light read. Set in Florida in a fishing community, we find corruption involving mob ties, land development, charters, drunks, and some nefarious activates. If you like fishing, you will enjoy some of the detailed scene descriptions.

Where Becker does well with writing and pace, the story itself is predictable. You know who the good guys are, the bad guys, and pretty much know how it will end. This is a good book for airplanes or hanging out on a beach, perhaps in Florida!

It is available for free in the Kindle Unlimited section.

Read March 2015; Copy supplied by author/publisher. Opinions, good or bad, are 100% my own.

Meet Will, a quiet but competent kinda guy, sort of a loner, who has been building a house for more than five years on an island in Florida's Keys. He also likes to fish but in a green way--catch and release unless it's for dinner. The book starts slowly, quietly, introducing you to Will and the beauty of the keys. Then we meet some bad guys and things keep racheting up a notch or two at a time until we're racing along like Will's fishing boat toward the climax. No spoilers but I enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning.

Bonefish Blues is a intriguing mystery that could be considered relevant with different environmental issues of today and not just in the Keys where the setting is for this book.

However you look at the storyline it is an excellent read that will grab attention and not let go until the end and even then I asked myself, "if there was more?"

This being said it is getting a 5/5 rating and I hope I get to read more by Steven Becker.

Ecological murder mystery

Ecological murder mystery

This is a good quick read. The Keys. Preservation is passe. Sustainability is the answer. True knowledge of navigating in the mangroves. Enter the mob from Miami. Character development starts then lags. Best part is the power of social media. 2 hour read.

Great location with enough detail to make it real, easily makes up for a couple flops in supporting cast. Good sense of urgency in the story kept it moving, even when the 'mystery' was solved, because the MC was likable enough to want to see him succeed. Overall a good read and a reason to look for more from this author.

Bonefish blues

A good alternative book if you read the first few by this author. Used names and locations previously introduced to tie in the tales and not require new definitions. Wasn't impressed by the hero as he comes across as a spoiled wimp. Luck was the key to success.
