Tyler Rexall never considered being anything besides a Navy SEAL. But a mission-gone-wrong has ended his career in the Teams, leaving Tyler handicapped, his self-identity obliterated. Returning to his hometown of Louisa, Virginia, Tyler wallows in despair. He has no idea that the young woman showing up on his doorstep with a dog holds his future in the palms of her hands.

Katie Crowley’s lifelong crush on the formidable “T-Rex” hasn’t waned one iota in the last decade. Seeing him beaten down and handicapped arouses her determination to help him, even as she’s being terrorized by a desperate man who is getting bolder by the day.

Can Katie convince a proud man like Tyler to accept that a service dog can change his life? Unfortunately, she may not get the chance or the time to heal him as her heart demands, not when her stalker returns for a final encounter.

Note from the author: While the cost of this 50-page short story might seem high at $2.99, proceeds from the sale will be donated to this nonprofit organization: Hero Dogs.

As an introduction to her new series, I felt Melton should have really written this as a full novel. There was so much material and avenues of storyline that needed further development and exploration. I expected the story to move fast. It also carries a strong message with powerfully lasting effects. Both main characters had their individual story to tell, along with the building relationship between each other. In trying to tell the whole story so quickly, much of it felt lost in the rush to justice.

It’s classic Marliss Melton with the SEAL hook glaring readers in the face and drawing your full attention to the heartbreaking and genuinely real impact of the plot. But sadly because of the shortness, it had very little depth. I hated that fact because Tyler alone deserved more. I definitely needed more of the building relationship, the heat of romance, and additional insight into Tyler’s years as a Navy SEAL before his career-ending injury.

There was a sneak peek at the members of Echo Platoon that will continue their stories in upcoming installments in Melton’s new series. Even here, I felt a bit slighted and took away nothing solid or revealing.

Yes, it was well-written and a good teaser – but disappointing in that I expected and needed a more complete picture all the way around.

Special note of thanks to Marliss Melton for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Having loved Marliss previous two series I was happy to see she was starting a third. This prequel kicks off the Echo Platoon series by introducing us to Tyler Rexall known as T-Rex when he was a Navy SEAL.

Since high school Tyler had one goal – to be a Navy SEAL. He accomplished that goal but when he loses a foot on a mission his career with his team is over. If that wasn’t enough, when he gets home expecting to get nurturing from his mother it turns out she is in a home in the later stages of dementia and his father decided to move in with her. Still struggling with the nightmares from his last mission Tyler’s a little depressed with how his life turned out.

Katie Crowley had a crush on Tyler all through high school but knew he never saw the geeky awkward girl she was back then. When she runs into him and see his disability and the dead look in his eyes she decides she is going to do something for him. Katie trains service dogs and she decides Tyler needs one and walks right up to his door and delivers one.

Both Katie and Tyler were dealing with trauma from their past. There was a reason she starting the service dog training – that’s all I’m sayin. She also seems to have a stalker which adds some suspense to the story. I loved both characters and was very satisfied with their story even being on the shorter side.

In the end we got to meet all of the Echo Platoon who will be the hero’s in future books. I’m hooked and cant wait for the next.

Enjoyable read..

This was a nice exciting, sensual novella, about a Navy SEAL who had lost his left foot on an op and was having a few physical and mental problems, until he met Katie. Katie ran a dog kennel that boarded and trained service dogs. Tyler was Katie’s high school crush, although he didn’t know it.

Anyway, it was a good story, with a bad guy trying to get to the money he’d embezzled from his clients, and then got caught, but all the money wasn’t found, so he thought Katie found it in the house he used to own. So, he was stalking her and breaking into her house. I like that there isn’t a whole lot of secret-keeping in novellas, where you just keep wishing they’d tell someone the secret and be done with it already.

There is explicit sex in this and the F-bomb was used 4 times.

As to the narration: David Brenin is a wonderful narrator. His men have really sexy voices and the women sound like women and he reads with terrific emotions.

****AUDIO REVIEW****

This was a great introduction to a new series. It jumped in with both feet getting to the character, setting and plot introduction quickly, but didn't stint for all that. I was drawn in by the former SEAL with a need to recover a bit of himself, the home town girl with her own past burdens, the service dog, the stalker plot and even the romance though I felt it was quick. The epilogue was the perfect finish and lead in to the series.

The story opens with Katie Crowley worried and scared not sure if she is going out of her mind imagining a stalker after the break in and her past traumatic experience, but the sight of an old high school crush is not her imagination. Katie was the wallflower who nobody noticed, but Tyler Rexall was the star athlete and school golden boy who became the hometown hero when he went on to become a Navy SEAL. He is barely recognizable in the bitter, hard-featured man who stands before her. She is determined to help him even if subterfuge is needed.

Tyler lost his foot and it ended his career- his life. He returns home to find his mother doesn't recognize him because of the disease that took her memories, his sister has her own life and he is left in an empty house staring an empty future down until a girl he barely remembers from high school and now a beauty woman pushes into his life with a dog leash in one hand and a dangerous stalker over her shoulder. Katie triggers the protector in him and her acceptance of who he is now brings him to life again.

The narration was one of the best I've heard as of late and I was able to sink right into the story. I felt David Brenin has a good voice for a thriller or Romantic Suspense such as this one. He did a very good Tyler voice and wasn't bad with Katie's female voice. He's got a nice gravely, gritty tone for Tyler in a mood or the bad guy.

All in all, a nice beginning to a new series that leaves me ready to jump right into the next book. This was a new to me author that I've been meaning to try and I've found a new author to pursue. Those who enjoy Romantic Suspense with military heroes and some spicy romance will want to give this a try.

My thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review.

"A Very Warmhearted Romance and Suspenseful Novella"

This story is an entrancing mystery, grabbing my interest from the first page, specifically the first sentence, "I'm being watched." Katie Crowley two days previously was standing on her doorstep and realized her home had been broken into, the glass broken on her entry door. The same creepy, hair-raising feeling comes over her again while she stands in an aisle of Food Lion grocery store. An event nearly 10 years ago left her with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and now it may have returned caused by her home invasion. She feels she is being stalked, and she is. But it's not the ill-kept man standing in front of her in the store aisle looking at protein drinks. He looks familiar and she recalls schoolmate Tyler Rexall, the hometown hero, who spent the last 10 years as a U.S. Navy SEAL. He looked beaten down, mentally and physically ... he has a prosthetic foot strapped to his left ankle. She could help him, but will he accept? She's determined to give him help, and she already has in mind the service dog which will aid him. That is what Katie does...she trains service dogs and customers how to handle the dogs. Home for Tyler now was the family farmhouse, empty. He wanted to come home to his warm and compassionate mother, but she has dementia and was moved to a nursing home. His father moved into the facility to remain with his wife. Tyler's sister is busy at med school. He has a lonely existence and is unsettled. Every day he wonders, "What am I going to do now?" Without any forewarning, Katie is ringing his doorbell with a dog she wants him to take care of for ten days. Tyler is surprised and has no chance of declining her wishes. The dog, Bronson, is a one-year-old blue heeler, an Australian cattle dog with bright blue eyes. She promises Tyler a date upon the return of the dog after 10 days. She may help him with his problems, but can Tyler help protect her from her intruder/stalker? This is a feel-good read; sad at times, reflecting fears of both well defined characters, but it also reflects how they must lean on each other to find serenity in their lives. A very well written story by Author Marliss Melton. Take time to read it.

This is a great introduction to the series, it really makes you want to know more. Although, I am confused by the series name "Echo Platoon" as that wasn't the group he belonged to, we shall have to wait and see I guess.

Tyler may be a wounded warrior, but is his still a delicious hero! I love his interactions with the service dog he is tricked into getting. He is just so sweet and you can see the Alpha coming back as he heals.

Katie is just my kind of gal. Sassy and curvy, with a touch of nerdy on the side. She really knows how to get her man! I loved her dynamic with Tyler and the strength she showed facing her fears. She is a real survivor.

Love these two getting together, really wish it were a longer story. I hope we see more of them in the series.

Great bit of Romantic Suspense, even if it was rushed and details were skimpy.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by David Brenin, who never fails to be a delight to the ears. Yummy gruff tones make your knees weak. He has a great pace that moves with the action of the story. I can not wait to hear him on the other books in the series, especially the yummy naughty bits!

I want more! This was just too short!

We meet Katie Crowley during a shopping trip. She is having a moment of panic as she feels she is being followed, again. These moments sets off a PTSD attach but not a severe one that is immediately shut down when she turns the corner in the store and sees her High School crush Tyler Rexall. As he walks away she notices he is limping and his being home can only mean one thing. He is out of the SEALs.
Tyler Rexall is depressed and struggling but I don't think he realizes how much. He seems to be barely holding on. When Katie barrels in to his life, seemingly never noticing his missing foot, with a dog it turns his depressing world upside down and it is JUST what he needed.
I loved this book. Just like all of Marliss Melton's other books the falling in love part wasn't instant or easy. They had to work at it and it was difficult emotionally. These two had so many emotional scars, but they were able to deal with them together. Katie because of her training and work was able to help Tyler 'wake up' and Tyler was able to help Katie in ways she didn't think she would be able to over come.
This book was short but powerful. I look forward to reading the rest of this series!

Look Again starts as a prequel to Marliss Melton's new series, Echo Platoon. If I enjoyed her previous two series, I'm positive this one will impress me as much. I enjoyed Tyler and Katie's story. Tyler's a wounded Navy SEAL, and Katie works with service dogs and finds a way to help him heal with one cute pup named Bronco. Tyler also gets to help Katie heal some old wounds and current problems with a stalker. There's passion, compassion, love, mystery, suspense and let's not forget a happily ever after. You also get to meet his other team mates who will be part of the new series. Can't wait for it!

I'm afraid this short novella was just a little too short for me. No real character or story development. H is an old high school crush of h's who has come back from war with his foot blown off. h trains service dogs and takes it upon herself to assume that H wants or needs a dog and literally just drops one off. Cute, but as a story it doesn't cut it.

There is a side story also about a stalker threatening the h. But again with just the bare minimum of facts, it really didn't draw me in much. Sometimes stories just need to be much more developed and this was one of them.

Demasiado corta. Todo sucede tan rápido que es estresante. Los personajes apenas están trabajados o descritos y el final ha sido muy empalagoso. No entiendo porque acortar tanto una historia que tenía potencial.

It had been too short. Everything happens so fast that it had been stressful. There is not enough character development and the end is a bit cheesy. I do not understand why to short a story that had potential.

Loved the story, loved the characters. HATED how short it was. That's why it got 3 stars. This is a story that should have an entire book, NOT a novella. This is a powerful story, one that just can't be told in 70 pages. It was rushed and read like it.

>Book Review – Look Again

>I am an independent reviewer. This is a novella in the Echo Platoon series and ends with an HEA. Tyler returned to his hometown after losing his foot in the war. He was once a high school football stud, turned Navy SEAL. Now he is struggling to figure out what to do with his life. Katie was the pudgy geek in high school who had a huge crush on Tyler. She is a survivor of a violent attack in college and now trains service dogs for others.

>Tyler and Katie bond over the dogs, but the threat that Katie is under from a stalker really brings Tyler’s protective tendencies to the forefront. I felt their physical intimacy came a bit quickly, but their chemistry was awesome.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this novella 5 stars. I only wanted more of the story.

I received this book free from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing an honest review. Katie train companion and service dogs for the handicapped. She herself is a survivor of a physical attack with injury and PTSD and has her own service dog. While at the local grocery store she sees her high school crush and town hero Navy Seal" T-Rex" Tyler. He has changed now looking gaunt, haunted and minus one foot. She shows up at his house the next day and asks a favor of him to take one of her training dogs for the next ten days because she does not have room at the kennels for him. I loved this book and would have given it a higher rating but it was too short for the content. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

The whole Shebang

I'm not sure why this novella has such high ratings. It wasn't overly good. Our two love birds haven't seen each other since high school, even then they weren't friends, and all the sudden on a whim Katie is giving what's-his-face one of her therapy dogs. Mostly because she thinks he needs it just by looking at him and not actually talking to him. Then they go on one date and she's crawling into his bed and making moves on him, which he liked. Then Dale conveniently comes back to play the bad guy.

Just meh. I know it was a novella, but it wasn't a very good one.

A good read

Short but sweet. Tyler thought he had lost everything. The SEALs was his life, who he was meant to be. Until he meets Katie. Katie trains therapy dogs, who better than someone who has PTSD. They both have emotional scares that haven't healed. Will they be able to help heal each other before tragedy strikes? Such a good story, I wish it was longer.

Nice introduction to the characters in the series. I like Katie’s profession, and now I know T-Rex’s story. I’m reading this after the first few books, so it’s in reverse.

Still pretty good, though I don’t like novellas overall-too short, strange pacing.

Not a bad intro.
It is a novella so it is short and sweet with a little "danger/action" / damsel in distress.
Mostly just an intro to Tyler as a former member of Echo Platoon - not sure how he will play in (if at all) into the rest of the series, but we will see.

Listened to the audio book. Narration is ok, some words had a slightly less mainstream pronunciation but nothing too distracting.

ROUNDING UP TO FOUR STARS- This is probably more of a 3.0-3.5 story for most because there's isn't alot to work with because of the shorter length (70 pages) but I have a huge weak spot for wounded warriors. Add a dog into the mix and I'm totally sold. This short story had both and a damsel in distress... therefore getting closer to a 3.5-4 STAR rating from me just for rating high on my personal comfort/guilty pleasure scale! I do think the story could have been developed a bit more, the transitions could have been smoother, ett... but it was a nice set up for the rest of the Echo Platoon books and I am looking forward to reading this military based romantic suspense series as it releases.

I was able to borrow this through a subscription service I'm using, SCRIBD, however, I did noticed Amazon has the book listed at $2.99. Although Marliss Melton is a well known author, I think that price is a bit steep for 70 pages and a price of $0.99 would be more approrpriate.

Note: At the time this review was posted, this book was available to borrow through SCRIBD Subcription Service.

The author draws clear images of the adventure in my mind.
I could see the small town, Louisa on my mind, as well as the kennel Katie is running, the homestead Tyler was staying in. But not only that, I could see the images of the past terrors in Katie's life, and the war memories of Tyler's.
The pain and adjustment Tyler were going through was touching,
As well as was the romance between Tyler and Katie. It also held a note of innocence, that was refreshing.
While I wish there would have been a full length novel for Tyler and Katie with more insights into their lives and things developing in the story, this novella was a great introduction to the series, and I enjoyed reading it. All the characters were highly likeable, and I'm looking forward to reading more about the Navy SEALs in the series. Four spoons!

A novella featuring one of Echo Platoon's SEALs. On a mission to Malaysia to take out an Arms Dealer, T-Rex, falls through a roof as the enemy operative blow up his villa, crushing Tyler's foot..The dealer escapes, leaving Tyler to deal with the loss of his foot as he is medically retired from the SEALs. He returns to his hometown and deals with his own injury and all that has changed since he has been gone. Katie, a woman that Tyler really didn't notice in high school, gives him one of the service dogs she is training. Katie is always dealing with some demons in her own life and manages to slide Tyler a service dog that starts to pull him out of the well of self-pity. Fast story, kind of an introduction to another former Echo platoon troop. Hope the author goes back into this story and fleshes out more of Tyler and Katie's back stories.

Absolutely fantastic beginning to a new series!

I can hardly wait for Ms. Dobson's new Echo Platoon series comes out! This was a truly awesome beginning novella about Tyler and Katie who have wonderful service dogs Broncos and Goldie who assist them cope with their anxieties and life in general. I loved how Broncos plays fetch one minute and takes down the thief the next! Even though this is just a beginning, I predict several fantastic books with the guys from Echo Platoon.

Novella. Cute story — the nerdy forgettable girl from HS blossoms into a butterfly & catches the eye of her big crush from back in the day. The fact that he's now a wounded war hero trying to come to terms with the new obstacles he's facing and not just a pretty face on top of a good body winning a popularity contest adds a level of depth & interest to a hero that easily could have been cliché. The H/h make for a very cute couple.

Prequel to the Echo Platoon series by Melton. Tyler Rexall is a former high-school standout who loses his way after a catastrophic injury ends his Navy SEAL career.

He is rescued by a blue heeler named Bronson and a cute blonde named Katie who owns a training kennel for service dogs. His team, Echo Platoon, of SEAL Team 12, is the jumping off point for the new series. Good beginning with a brief plot.
