Rate this book
TWENTY is an unapologetic, politically incorrect, and often irreverent look at a 22-year career that gives the reader a glimpse into the mindset of a police officer serving in patrol, narcotics, and criminal investigations, and rising through the ranks to retire as a Deputy Chief of Police. These notable vignettes range from the humorous, to the deadly, to the somber. TWENTY shows cops as they really are, from their domestics, to their drinking and philandering, along with tremendous acts of courage and shameful cowardice.

Some good stories, but it's very clear that the author is a major dickwad you would never want to meet.

The author was rather crass and crude in retelling stories from his time with the LCPD, and he seemed far too intent on making sure the reader understood that he was tough. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the snapshots of police work and crime in my city spanning 2 decades. Some of the stories were tragic, some funny, some disgusting, but for the most part this book was both fascinating and entertaining. I especially appreciated that the author seemed genuine and honest--I don't doubt the veracity of his tales.
