The prestigious Litmore Academy has sent its students on an extended field trip to Chicago. Among them are students Arisa, Gabby, and Brandon. Arisa— sweet, demure, shy, and lonely— is best friends with Gabby, one of the more well-known, garrulous, and fashion-conscious girls at Litmore. Lacking confidence in her- self, Arisa prefers staying in with a good book, but Gabby will have none of it and drags her out on the town. Which is where she bumps into Brandon, the cutest and most popular guy in school. Suddenly, the Windy City is blowing the winds of change…and romance…Arisa’s way. Will she embrace them?

A Plus B was as cute and fluffy as I’d hoped for, with some poignant scenes in the mix as well.
Arisa’s a shy, bookish girl who doesn’t feel like she fits in with her private school classmates, so it’s tough for her to trust a popular boy’s interest in her during a Chicago field trip.
Even though the author and illustrator didn’t have the luxury of time and space that novelists enjoy, their combined talents made for expressive and likeable characters.
Some readers may find the plot a bit slight, but it was my first manga and I enjoyed it. The minute I was done I flipped to the sequence with the train and the walk back to her room, just to see and feel it again; I loved the awkward silence and romance of those moments, definitely the high point for me.

"A Plus B" is a sweet, fun read. I enjoyed the friendship between Arisa and Gabby. Arisa is incredible shy and introverted while Gabby is definitely outgoing. Gabby never abandoned Arisa, instead, she encouraged her to try things out of her comfort zone.
Brandon was sweet, I liked how he watched out for Arisa and smoothly convinced her to hang out with him. Yes, the story is a tad cliche, but cliche is good sometimes :)

I won this book in the Giveaways which I was so excited about!
I really liked the story overall, although I did wish it would have been longer, and also craved for more time between Brandon and Arisa to get to know each others' deepest selves - to know more about who the are individually and together - Other than that, it was a great story, and the end message was the cherry on top. The drawings were super, I really enjoyed this book. Maegan, I am waiting for more !

I won a copy of this book through the Goodreads First reads program.
The cover of the book sets a good tone, despite being american it has the right look to be a shoujo manga and its a nice font with the title. I went over the book cover to cover in a sitting and while I find the story a cute idea, the pacing feels really off. People just run full tilt into a very cliche plot about misunderstanding and redemption ending with an awkward wall of text for the climax. It just highlights how strange and stilted a lot of the dialog is when it takes up such a massive chunk of page. I want to like the story, the art is cute and the characters could have been interesting if they were allowed time to develop but with a goal of a single book, too much extra nothing is left at the expense of making anyone feel like a person. Brandon is so one dimensional his entire emotional spectrum consists of just "I love her" without anything else expressed at all. He isn't convinced and doesn't "find" her she is just his reason for being. Gabby kind of doesn't have a purpose as a person which is okay for fleshed out characters but she just sort of takes of space as it is.
I feel like this is a first book done partially by committee and it shows. Its great to crowd source some stuff but at the end of the day you need to be the director more or less and pen to your vision or else it will get lost as each helper paces a different area.
For as much as I rip into this book, they did a really good job, I thought it was cute, and I hope to see what they can do after learning from this project. I bet it will be really good.

I was excited to win this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. My grown children and my teen-aged granddaughter all read manga, and love it. I wanted to join their band wagon.
This book was cute, but did seem kind of obvious. We meet the three main characters on a class trip to Chicago. A shy, quiet, book loving girl is with her fashion conscious extrovert girlfriend who tries to get her glammed up to club hop and have fun. Along the way, the introverted girl meets the popular, good-looking boy from school, who seems to like her and enjoy her company, but tells macho tales about their time together to his friends, (think of the opening of Grease). So how do things work out? You can probably guess, but I won't tell.
To be fair, this story will probably appeal more to my granddaughter than it does to me. After all, she hasn't already seen and heard it all! I do wish the illustrations were in color; that would have helped. but regardless, in all,A Plus B is a quick read, kind of obvious, but cute, nonetheless.

This was actually the first manga that I've ever read before, and I have to say, it was a lot of fun! It wasn't a very long story, as it only took me about 30 minutes to read, but it was good. I definitely will want to reread this in the near future. Short and sweet, sums it up brilliantly. Also, I really loved the ending. <3
