Julie Emison never believed in demons, ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Trucker Castleman never believed in love. Imagine their surprise when they discovered each other.

Eighteen-year-old Julie denied her attraction for seventeen-year-old Trucker for as long as she possible could, but in time formed a connection that felt almost unworldly. From the day he first laid eyes on her, the charismatic, and reclusive Trucker had been consumed with Julie, a big-hearted and frustrating girl—who Trucker loved beyond reason. The only problem with that was Trucker had no right to love. After all, love is a foreign concept to a demon.

Things are complicated by the fact that Trucker was not only a demon, but the prince of an elite band of demons. His life had already been laid out for him, and Julie didn’t fit into those plans at all. Julie was a complication. A complication Trucker was not willing to give up. Trucker was ready to fight and turn his back on everything he knew to be with her.

Julie wasn’t so easily convinced. With Trucker, Julie found isolation, unbearable pain, and that happily ever afters do not exist. However, she also never felt more alive. After a tragic accident, Julie faced a hard decision. Did she endure it all for the sake of love? Or was the price of sin more than she could afford to pay?

'Finding Home' is a brilliant debut novel, written well with gripping characters and a unique and individual premise and mythology. We are submerged into the world of evil, devils and horror in such a clever way, it was definitely unique for a Young Adult book yet felt so much more than that.

The novel tells the story of 18 year old Julie Emerson who instantly feels emotionally attached to Trucker Castleman. She keeps seeing him around school until one day she decides to take the plunge and go out with him, they both start to fall in love but as we all know, in paranormal books, love = disaster misfortunes.

Julie Emerson was a very irritating and frustrating character, fair enough to her, she has a lot of troubles in her life but OH MY, I just did not like her!
“Are you sure [you want to go out with my friends and I]?” Julie asked. He nodded. Trucker seemed oblivious, lost in thought. “If you’re ashamed of me. I understand. I’ll just tell them I was joking.” Julie whispered, fighting back tears. Why else would he have become unglued, if not because he didn't want to be seen in public with her."
Um? NO.

On the other hand, Trucker was such an interesting character to read about, he had so much depth to him and as the story went on we just kept unravelling each layer of Trucker and finding more to him. I absolutely adored Trucker's mum and sister and loved every scene they had together. I think it's fair for me to say, as Julie was falling in love with Trucker, I also was falling in love with him.
“Yeah, Trucker, do you need something?” “Yeah, you. Why do you ask?”

The suspense in this story was held very well until the perfect time, I genuinely thought it was going to be about vampires, not devils, and the way J.W. explains all supernatural creatures from just these devils was very clever. I also really loved J.W's use of song lyrics in this book, there is a particular scene where Julie listens to a song and J.W. writes it as such the lyrics explain her feelings.

“I love plaid, they take two colours that don’t belong together and turn it into a beautiful pattern.”

All in all, a great book, so different from your run-of-the-mill Young Adult book with a crazy premise and beautiful mythology. Can't wait to read more of J.W. Phillip's gripping writing!

This was a fabulous, unique story! I enjoyed both Julie and Trucker! You will be blown away by shocking events, family love, loyalty, transformations and so much more that will truly captivate you.

Julie has always had the normal life. She was doing great until a mysterious man comes out of the blue and says HI and knows her name. She can feel he is different and that scares and excites her. She can't get him out of her head... and no matter where she goes he is there.

Trucker is drawn to Julie. He shouldn't be. He shouldn't be drawn to anyone. He's not built that way. There are secrets he's holding that he doesn't want to share because he wants her to stay with him and not run away.

I LOVED these two characters. LOVED.

I loved Julie and her ability to love and accept different people. I loved how she accepted Trucker and wanted to help him. Was amazed that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

Trucker, oh man! Swoon! I loved him. He was so romantic and sweet to Julie. He loved her in every sense of the word.. and that is so unusual and not common for him. I loved everything he did for her, even if it hurt him. He would do anything for her, her safety even if that meant she would make him leave and go away. He was more emotional/scare than a typical man and I loved that we saw his emotions and being scared she would leave.. and that frightened him so much! I also loved his surprises (pillow) and then the notes! Swoon! You will fall in love with Trucker, the mercuial man, but one who loves Julie regardless of which mood he is in. <3

I loved his quotes

"Don't leave." "Please angel, never leave me".

" I can't let you go. I'll never let you go".

"Yeah, she's my angel." "The angel you and mom always said would save me".

You want a paranormal romance, sexy swoon worthy men with mood swings, possessiveness, suspense/mystery, love, friendships, family, secrets and more? Then you will fall in love with this book, Trucker, his mom/sister and Grandma! You will fall in love with the characters, story line and so much more!

This is a fabulous story! I loved every thing about it and finished it in all one day! It was that amazing!

5 stars from me!!!

I loved the ending, but would have loved an epilogue.. wish/hope we can see/read more about them maybe in the future?! :) :)

Finding Home By J.W. Phillips

Julie Emison never believed in demons, ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Trucker Castleman never believed in love. Imagine their surprise when they discovered each other.

She is human and he is the prince of demons. Sounds like the beginning of a good paranormal story, right? NOT!

I found the story annoying and disturbing. It starts off with Trucker stalking Julie. When he finally approaches Julie, she is scared of him. Julie can’t get away from him fast enough. Then miraculously after he stalks her for weeks at school and at home, she decides to go out with him. However, she is STILL afraid of Trucker but she is falling in love with him. REALLY?!!! THEN comes the kicker. Julie is so full of goodness that whenever Trucker touches her, it causes him pain. But he can’t stay away from her.

The author had put a new spin on the idea of angels vs demons. Which I had like but the author needs to get a better editor. Between the typos, using the wrong tense and the somewhat confusing story line, it was really a struggle to finish this story. OH! Don’t get me started on the ending…

Julie’s not really an angel, but Trucker seems to think she is. There again, Trucker’s not what he seems. And Julie might be his salvation.

The premise is cool, and J.W. Phillips’ Finding Home starts with a great sense of mystery behind its characters as they meet in the summer heat of Promise Land, Tennessee. Julie’s entering her senior year at the small town’s small school. But Trucker surely has other things on his mind. Still, she muses, “One thing is for sure no matter what secrets he is hiding, he has left his handprint on my heart.”

Finding Home isn’t a vampire-in-the-bedroom teen romance, but it’s teen romance with the same slightly creepy, someone-watching-in-the-bedroom sense. An intriguingly different mythology powers its characters, and there’s a dark world fighting for Trucker’s soul, assuming he has one. Ultimately it reads rather like Beauty and the Beast crossed with Twilight. It's intriguing, darkly romantic, slowed by some editing glitches and clichés plus the inevitable soul-searching, but fast and furious at times, and definitely different.

Disclosure: I found it when it was free.

2.5 This book had an interesting premise, but that is as far as it got for me. I liked the unique explanation of paranormal beings/creatures, but the character development left a lot to be desired. The back and forth between young angelic Julie and Trucker left me wanting to brush my teeth. Many feelings were professed, but I didn't feel any of them. I don't want to completely slam this book, but there were some serious editing issues. I have to rate this book honestly or I will be doing a disservice to the indie authors who have done their spit shinning.
I love to read, and I love indie books, I never want to discourage any author from writing. There was a great idea at the center here, unfortunately for me, it just fell flat ~ I am simply one reader, so my opinion is just that, MY opinion.
I thank the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

It's an amazing story with wonderful characters that anyone can relate. Has many good meanings. It shows how a young woman has to come to terms with who she loves and what it will cost her in the long run. Great and amazing story.

Finding Home is a thought provoking take on mythical creatures and a kick a** love story.

I have to admit that I haven't read a great deal of young adult literature during my adult life, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Finding Home. I absolutely loved this tale of teen love between a human and a supernatural being. With this type of subject matter the story could have been completely campy, but instead was very beautiful, in my opinion, with enough romance and substance to rival the best adult romance novels. In fact, I thought that exhibited a surprising depth of emotion, intimacy and even sensuality without ever resorting to anything explicit. I think the intimacy was owing in large part to the amazing level of communication between Trucker and Julie. These two teen protagonists affected more stark honesty in their communication than many adult characters in romance novels, rarely holding anything back from each other. Trucker was even forthcoming about who and what he was far sooner than I ever expected him to be. The sensuality was conveyed through simple things like smiles, kisses and touches and most importantly their beautiful dialog. Of course much of this was possible because, neither Trucker and Julie, were really “normal” teenagers. I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed the book nearly as much as I did if the main teen characters had behaved in what has seemed to become the “typical” teen manner of extreme cattiness, rebellion, and out-of-control hormones. Instead, the story became a refreshing take on teen behavior, and a gentle reminder that not all teens do behave in the “typical” way.

Finding Home is a very sweet and innocent romance, which I mentioned earlier has no explicit elements. There is no sex and only a couple of mild profanities. In my opinion, this book is quite appropriate for the age group for which it is intended. I would have no problem at all with my children reading it when they are a bit older. In fact, I felt as I read the book that it sends some positive family and relationship messages to teens. What I liked most though, is the development of Trucker and Julie's romance. Their physiological attraction to each other is immediate and powerful, yet they take the time to build a friendship that is based on mutual trust, respect and love, which is more than can be said for many adults. Trucker and Julie only discuss sex a couple of times over the course of the novel and in very subtle terms, but in my opinion, Trucker's blood lust could be taken as something of a metaphor for sexual desire. Whether taken in the metaphorical or mythological context, I thought that Trucker's self-control contained a beautiful message of his pure love for Julie superseding all other desires.

I found Finding Home to be a thoroughly enjoyable read which has earned a place on my keeper shelf. This is one of those books that was very difficult to put down. I just couldn't wait to see what might happen next or what new piece of the puzzle might be revealed.

I want to start off by saying that I REALLY enjoyed this book. I liked the story line and immediately fell in love with both Trucker and Julie. This is the first review that I struggled with rating. While I enjoyed Finding Home, the editing was a large part of the reason for its rating. I know that no book is going to be without grammatical errors and I can overlook them to a point. But as a reviewer I feel that I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t factor that into my rating. I cannot stress enough how much YOU WILL LOVE these characters and I DO NOT want to discourage anyone from reading this book. Just a few lines into the prologue and I already had tears in my eyes. There was something so innocent (I KNOW!! Not what you’d expect from a paranormal romance) about it that struck a chord in me.Emily has always had the ability to feel the emotions of those around her. When she meets Trucker, she feels nothing but misery from him. There were too many things Julie picked up on that made her turn and run in the opposite direction. Weeks go by and she cannot stop thinking about and dreaming of him. Julie and Trucker start dating and he swears never to hurt her. But adds that he cannot say the same about his family. Julie begins to notice more and more oddities about Trucker. Trucker tries to warn her away but she’s already falling for him. Once she learns what he really is, she finds it hard to believe that he’s 100% evil. As Julie and Trucker fall deeper in love, they struggle with his destiny and what it means for their future together. When tragedy strikes, Julie must decide if being a part of Trucker’s world is worth it.I liked J.W. Phillips choice of using journal entries to allow us insight into what the main characters were thinking. I thought it was a unique touch and was glad to see it throughout the entire book. This book stands out for me from others because there was no beating around the bush and the story jumped right into the paranormal. Julie discovering what Trucker really was, wasn’t draw out to the point of being boring, like what can happen in other cases. I liked Julie as a female lead. While she may not have wanted to admit certain things to herself, she definitely wasn’t blind to the things happening around her. I think overall Finding Home is a REALLY good debut novel and a great foundation for a series. YES I AM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED that we’ll get more of Trucker and Julie. I feel that there is so much more to explore with these two and maybe a few other characters ;) AND lastly how could you not love a book where the author quotes Bryan Adams’ Have you ever really loved a woman?? (3.5 stars)

-He was her everything. She was more determined than ever to pull him into the light.

I really enjoyed this story, yes there were some parts that could have been written better and parts that could have been explained better but al in all I couldn't stop turning the pages so I simply could not take away a star!!

The story is all about Julie, a normal girl leading a boring life when one day she meets Trucker. She is instantly captivated by him, only problem is is that Truck is no ordinary boy. He is a demon, and one destined to lead their people no less. He shouldn't feel this desperate need to be with Julie, his whole life was planned from him from when he was a baby, he even has the paintings to prove it! Will he be able to change his destiny and claim Julie as his mate, will Julie be able to overcome all the hurdles she will need to in order to be with Truck? Only time and reading this book will tell!!

The characters in this were well written and some of the supporting characters I fell in love with too. My only other complaint with this book is that I am not sure if the end of the story was the end or if there is more to come. Either way this can be read as a stand alone. The reason that I wondered if there was going to be more to their story was that at the end they had only just got back together and had yet to mate. From what another character had said earlier to Truck it would seem that there could be more to happen before that takes place, perhaps it is me reading more into it, I'm not sure!! Personally I would love to read more of their story and hope that if enough of us request the same this will happen!!!

Please note I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There are some pretty blatant editing errors in this story that are in desperate need of repair. That being said, I based my four star rating on the contents of the story itself.

A love story between two high-school aged characters, a human girl and half demon/half human boy, who are irresistibly drawn to each other from the very start. At times a bit Twilight-esque, in that this is a love story that is meant to make the impossible possible, it also contains many unique aspects that allow this story to stand out on its own.

The dynamics of the demon world are very interesting. The supporting characters and family interactions are well developed and add a level of complexity to the story that develops into a very enjoyable read. It shows surprising emotional depth while the main characters struggle to define their relationship and decide just how may sacrifices they are willing to make in the name of love. I found myself being drawn deeper into their world.

They author uses the journal/diary entries of the main characters to express their ongoing thoughts in a way that is quite ingenious, and allows each character to show their vulnerabilities.

Besides the editing errors, the only other complaint that I had was the ending, which was a bit abrupt. I hope that indicates that there will be future stories containing these two characters, as there is the potential for a lot more story to develop between these two!

Overall, it was a great read, and since it's without any heavy sexual overtones, I would recommend it to any fans of young adult paranormal romance.

I had a hard time with this review because at first I was not impressed with it at all. It was a little slow to start and then all I could think about was Twilight. I kept thinking to myself this is Twilight just worded different. I even looked in a copy of Twilight to see if it was the same but the wording was a lot different. Don't get me wrong I like the Twilight series. I pushed through to see if it was going to be just like Twilight or not. To my surprise it was not. I did like the story and once I found out what was going on with Trucker I started enjoying it more. I was glad that it was not what I was thinking it was going to be and was glad that I got a little surprise. That doesn't happen often but because it took until over halfway through for me to get rid of the Twilight feel and really start liking it I can't rate it any higher. It was a good story and if you like paranormal romance I think you will like this. Check it out for yourself.

I love to read and read two or three books a week. But with this book I could not stop thinking about it. I read it so much that my hubby was jealous saying I was more obsessed over Trucker Castleman than him. I truly could not put the book down.

I love how J.W. described all the characters, especially Trucker and all of 'his' kind. She left me guessing the first part of the book, is he this or this. I also love how she expressed in great detail every emotion Julie felt. When she hurt you hurt for her. Julie experienced a lot of pain. She looses the person she always depended on. If you have ever been through something like that all the pain and sorrow you once felt comes back, because she described it in such detail.

It is a young adult book and suitable for any young person to read. But I am no young person and I loved it as much or more than any book I have read in a long time.

I read A LOT and I almost never leave a review. (Although being an author myself I know this is a bad practice.) But I fell in love with the story and the love between Trucker and Julie.
Tender, sweet, heart wrenching, frustrating, it is all there. I honestly could not put it down and it is now 3:30 in the morning and I am finally done. Although honestly I could keep reading about them for hours more!

The author has really created a wonderful story with characters I had never seen before. There was no fluff, just a good story and I really enjoyed it. I could feel the emotions between the Julie and Trucker and I really, truly pulled for them.
Will be reading this authors other works and recommending this one for sure!

A little bit more editing and this book would be absolutely perfect!

Julie Emison never believed in demons, ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Trucker Castleman never believed in love. Imagine their surprise when they discovered each other.

I know this book has a lot of faults. Many things could have been written better bu i just really liked it. The story was unique and enjoyable. The characters were really likeable and to tell you the truth i just loved Trucker! He had the best, sweetest lines.

"Happy New Year, my love." He whispered and with one last bittersweet feel of her lips on his, he flew out of her house and never let up on his pace till he was in his room.

Overall i think Finding Home is a story with lots of potential and a really good ending.

4 stars of enjoyment. I loved this book a sweet loving romance with some twist and turns. Julie runs into Trucker one day and they instantly have a connection. Trucker cant deny his feelings for Julie but will she still accept and want him when the truth comes out. This story is amazing has all the emotions you look forward to in a book I laughed, smiled, cried and yelled at my kindle but enjoyed every minute of it. I usually don't read books like this but this book reminded me that its good to read outside of my bubble sometimes. Look forward to reading more from this author and hope to read more about Julie and Trucker.

This was a very good read. I have found more and more YA reads that I am loving and this was one. I pulled for Trucker and Julie the whole time. Love is a powerful thing, more powerful then evil and they proved it. Even as hard as nasty Emily and Larry tried they could not keep love from making Trucker good. I was sad to see it end thought and hoped to read more of their lives.
