Rate this book
Committed trainers and owners can solve this problem!
Treating separation anxiety in dogs is not quick or easy—but it can be done. The successful ingredients are cooperation, commitment and time on the part of the dog trainer and the owners. In this important new book, author Malena DeMartini-Price shares her 5 Phase Treatment Protocol and related strategies to help dogs overcome the fear of being left alone and addresses the trauma it can inflict on both the dog and their owners. Trainer handouts, detailed step-by-step training tips and a sample initial interview questionnaire are included.

Learn
•The critical role that “suspending absences” plays in the early part of the treatment plan and how owners and trainers can make this more manageable.
•How dog trainers can make the treatment of separation anxiety in dogs a specialized business.
•The role that management techniques and medications can play to help support the recommended behavior modification strategies.
•How technology, including remote feeding devices and web cams, can be used to monitor a dog’s progress in overcoming his fear of being left alone.

This has some great info, advice and tips on how to approach curing separation anxiety for your dog. The methods align with our training style and outlined what we already had in mind for Koda. I appreciate how up front this book is when explaining that this training will take months of dedication to see results.

Has great points, but was extremely geared towards trainers (including what to charge per hour, history to ask new clients, etc). There also was no mention of how to handle a dog with separation anxiety from one person (likely the main dog handler) while others are in the house and what they could do to help

Excellent guide

Great methods and details on treating separation anxiety cases. Written for professional dog trainers, but owners may benefit from reading as well. Very detailed plans from a behaviorist that is experienced in solving these cases.

Rozczarowanko.

This book is written for trainers specializing in behavior modification. And is is a wonderful resource for owners too. The stages of progression are detailed. The author makes it clear that separation anxiety, whether mild, moderate or severe, takes TIME and PATIENCE to successfully overcome.

The information here is really good. It does a great job of focusing on how hard of a task this training is/how high of a mountain it is to climb without making you feel like you wouldn’t be able to do it. I guess we will find out 🤞🏻

A good and thorough breakdown of the reasons behind the why and the how of training required for these dogs with severe issues. In it for the long haul, not for the faint hearted, not a quick fix approach - but it's thoroughly explained why in the book.

This book is a really useful for resource for dog behaviour advisor and owners also. The author writes well making the book easy to follow and even includes treatment plans in the back of the book that really do help. This helped me understand separation anxiety in a whole different light.
