Dear Lorelei,
As I sat down to write a review of Cowboy Take Me Away, I was overcome with emotion and wondered how I would ever be able to do purestdelightawardjustice to this book. It’s more than that really; this book is the end of an era, the final tale in an epic saga, a love story that spans 60 years, and the series that made you into the writer you are today. I say that with love because as I re-read the Rough Riders series in preparation for CTMA, I noticed how much you’ve grown as a writer and even in the early stages of this series your stories were heads and shoulders above so many out there, but as time went on they became even better; deeper, more emotional, and truly special. I also took note of every little hint regarding Carson and Carolyn’s relationship and there were many but they were only the tip of the iceberg.
There were some pretty big revelations in CTMA; we saw many facets of Carson and Carolyn and while some were surprising, some we’d seen all along if we paid attention. We gained even more understanding of Carson, Calvin, and Charlie’s responsibility of being stewards of the land something they passed down to their children as well as Casper’s children. We saw the burden of secrets that Kimmie and Carolyn knew but couldn’t share with anyone else. We saw that sometimes history does repeat itself even when we swear it won’t. We saw the full story of many partial stories we’d seen throughout fifteen books and we saw it from the eyes of those who lived it. We were treated to glimpses of the events that shaped many lives but most of all we learned that without Carolyn, Carson would have been a shell of a man. That’s not to say he wasn’t exactly what she needed, but I think even Carson would agree that Carolyn was the backbone, the pillar of strength, and the fierce guardian of the McKay empire. We saw a man realize that his life despite all the hardship, the tears, the joy, and the changes was completely wonderful because of the woman he knew he loved from the first moment he saw her and we saw a woman fight to make sure that their life together would continue on for years to come.
I can’t even begin to express the myriad of emotions I went through as I read this book. I knew it would be an emotional journey but I had no idea how cathartic it would be. I’d been preparing myself for this book for the last two years and honestly, I was okay with this series ending because I knew that at any time I could go back and revisit it and relive their journey. I really loved the way you entwined so many of the past books into this one and how they each jarred a memory to be shared. How you showed that no marriage is perfect; that even those couples who appear the most solid have had experiences that have shaped them and brought them to where they are today. How a couple can have their ups and downs yet still maintain the love and lust they once had for one another even have 50 years together. I love that Carson shared with his nephews, niece, grandson, daughters in law and son in law that while his life with Carolyn wasn’t perfect, it was theirs and theirs alone and he will always be the one to make sure she is taken care of and safe even if it means pissing off the people he loves most in the world next to his wife.
From Long, Hard Ride through Cowboy Take Me Away you have given so much of yourself and you have given your readers and fans a ride they will never forget. You have taught us that people change, relationships of all kinds take work, people come and go, and most of all that no matter what family comes first. It isn’t always pretty, but you don’t come into this world alone and if you are lucky you don’t leave it alone either–especially when you find that one person to be by your side forever.
Thank you for sharing your talent with the world, for giving us this family to love, and for reminding us of all of life’s lessons along the way. I am thankful for you and your friendship; it means more to me than you’ll ever know.

This is not our official review. It will come after it officially releases. This is my blubbering mess of thoughts I couldn't help but share after finishing this book.
I can think of no better or more beautiful way for an author to finish a 16 book series than to tell the tale of the two people who started it all 50 yrs ago. A romance and passion that spans 50+ years, a love that withstands trial and tribulations, happy and sad, a love that creates a strong and loving family. A book that is so emotional I'm still crying 48 hrs after I finished it. This book had me laughing, crying, sighing and crying some more. It's touching, sexy and sweet. When I finished CTMA I felt an overwhelming need to re read the series. When I finished it I felt like I was saying goodbye to family and moving to another planet, I'm not ready to leave the McKays behind (I'm crying once again as I type this) thus the NEED to re read the series. I can tell after reading CTMA each of my re reads will be even more poignant. Plan to take June 17 off and do absolutely nothing because you will not want to put CTMA down, and this is a long book it took me about 11 hours to finish. I cannot even explain this book all I can say is it is Lorelei James at her finest! CTMA will leave you on a McKay high!!!! But have your tissues ready because if you are a Rough Riders fan you will need them for days.

Final Rough Rider book?
When I tell you I am heart broken, I really mean it. I absolute adore this series and everyone of the characters. The McKay/West clan are hands down my favourite fictional family ever. I'm so sad that this is the last book, I'm so excited for it but reading it will be bittersweet. I just want to say a massive thank you to Ms James for writing this series, you're have no idea the countless hours of laughter and just pure happiness you have brought to with with your books. I have everyone of them on my Kindle and number sweet 16 will complete my collection.
Now onto something that is hurting my heart, if this is the last book, WHO is it for? Chet, Remy & Doc Monroe OR Sierra and Boone?

5 Stars!!
Absolutely loved this. Throughout this series we've have gotten to see Carson and Caro through their kids eyes, through the rest of the family. Have fallen in love with all the McKays. Their stories, where they have come from, made them in to the hot cowboys they are today, and finding true happiness. Amongst all the damn hotness of them!
But Caro and Carson's story is the series coming full circle. Back to where it all started. And wow, my favourite of the series! Had different feel to the others, as we had back and forth of their memories, past and present. It was beautiful, emotional, funny and of course hot!!
We know there's been the feud between the West and the Mckay families. We get to lean more once again about it all. Carolyn West and Carson McKay falling for each other, hiding their relationship, marrying, starting family and building life full of love.
Their love story was unforgettable. Touching. They find their match in each other. They make each other whole. Caro stands up to the cocky cowboy and pushes him at every chance she gets. Carson, being the cocky cowboy just does as he pleases with her. And i must say they did not disappoint, holy cow they were hot! From up against the car in the rain, in bed, taking her from behind to show her that he is all man and she is his, the truck, kitchen! Thats the McKays!
I loved the flashback memories of their life together. One of funniest parts, when Carson had to look after all 6 kids for 5 days! We had broken arms, stitches, Keely running around in knickers and cowgirl boots. An Alpha cowboy doing daddy duty, hilarious!
"You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. How about we skip all this bullshit and just head straight to the altar?"
"But when he looked at her? Kissed her? Thought about touching her? He had the fierce need to be the only man who ever put his hands on her. The only man who'd put his mouth on her. Oh boy, Rough Riders fans, you better get ready because this one is going to throw you into a book hangover like no other. I've started three other books and had to put them down. I ended up reading another RR book because in between the crying fits, nothing seems to satisfy or appeal to me but my McKays.
CTMA is sweet, hot, sad, and funny. You know, kinda like all the others in series. The thing that sets this one apart from the rest of the series is the writing. Yeah, the writing has been great and at times fuc*ing fantastic and there is no doubt Lorelei has really grown as an author, but with this one, she pulled out all the stops, left nothing undone, and even though it's the last in the series, she managed to work her magic and left me wanting more. How mean is that? lol
TOP.OF.HER.GAME!
Because I love this family as if they were my own, it was a very emotional read for me (understatement of the century). I started crying halfway in the first chapter, managed to slow it down to sniffles by a third of the way in, somewhat dried up by the middle, downpour by two-thirds and stayed there for A WHILE, then tapered off towards the end, then BROKE DOWN and cried off and on for two days after I finished. So, uh, yeah, it's emotional. Keep the Kleenex close. That's my warning. Take heed.
I will NOT dare post any spoilers but just know you will LOVE it from front to back. You will experience one of the greatest love stories of our time, you will feel like you've never felt, and you will be proud that you were able to experience this series as a whole.
It was the PERFECT ending to a series that will always be in my heart, will always be my "go to" books no matter what mood I'm feeding, and I will always, always remember how it changed my life.

The Rough Rider series is iffy for me as some of the sexual shenanigans in some of the books verge on trashy to downright icky, and I have always seriously disliked/hated Carson and Carolyn, the patriarch and matriarch of the C clan of Cord, Colt, Colby, Cam and Cart until now.
However, this glimpse at their romance, marriage and attempts to raise six hell-raising kids and future manwhores of Wyoming is hysterical and frankly heartwarming. The best parts are the flashbacks of family life with the boys. Even icky Keely is pretty adorable as a two-year old.
Even if you don't read the whole book, the section where Carson is left with their six kids from fifteen to two years old for four days is completely priceless. That alone is a four star read.

This has to be the best book of the series by far!
It tells the story of Carson and Caroline and how they originally got together as well as snapshots of their lives together. We always knew that the wife of Carson and the mother of six of the McKay children was gonna be a very special lady, I don't think we knew exactly how special....until now!
I would recommend that you have a box of tissues handy when you read this as there will be quite a few tears, some sad, but some due to laughter.
It tells the story of Carson and Caroline and how they originally got together as well as snapshots of their lives together. We always knew that the wife of Carson and the mother of six of the McKay children was gonna be a very special lady, I don't think we knew exactly how special....until now!

In this last settlement of the Rough Riders series we take a trip down memory lane. Carolyn and Carson are the parents of the wild McKay boys (and girl). When the book starts Carolyn has an accident, she is thrown off her horse and Carson runs to her side and calls an ambulance. Doctors tell him that she has to be put in a coma for at least a week in order to control the swelling in her brain. He is devastated. They have spent the last fifty years together, and while he looks out for her, not leaving her side, he remembers their life together starting from their first encounter 50 years ago.
This was the perfect book for a perfect end to this series: to see how it all started. I loved every second of it.
While Carson is in the waiting area in the hospital some family members come and visit him so we also have updates about all the characters we loved in the other books. Those visits provoke other memories from their past so we have a lot of flashbacks. I loved that the book wasn’t just about Carson and Carolyn’s story, how it began, but their whole life together. I loved seeing the McKay children grow up, the family starting and growing. I laughed, I cried, I loved this book.
Thank you Mrs James for this book, I am really sad to say goodbye to these characters but it was the perfect ending for the series!

5 Stars for Cowboy Take Me Away (Rough Riders #16)(audiobook) by Lorelei James read by Rebecca Estrella. I really enjoy this series. I like how each book in the series spotlights a different part of the family. I hope there is more books to come.

There is nothing normal about Carson and Carolyn McKay. How do you even begin to write a review for the last book of a 17 book series with novellas thrown in between some?
This book made me giggle, swoon, sweat, cry, sob, and smile so big. I now get it, I really do. What an epic timeless love story between two people that experienced so much together. I see where all the McKay siblings get their gumption, spitfire-ness, and stubbornness from. I also see where they get their fierce passionate love for their spouses as well. Look what they had as an example. My God!
Cord McKay was always my ultimate McKay hero, but now I see that he was just cut from the cloth of Carson McKay. That man is one sexy mo-fo, and I can’t wait to reread all my fave books from the top. I can’t get enough. Nothing will quench the ache I’m feeling right now. The book hangover is strong. My poor aching heart.
This is quite a love story. It’s real, passionate, raw, ugly and honest. It’s real life, and that’s why it’s in my top fave books ever!!

I wasn't expecting this book to be this long. I gotta say it was a great ending to the series. We get to see a little bit of everyone and I'm glad she chose Carolyn and Carson as the ending couple. It may not have been what everyone wanted but it was a good read. I'd recommend it.

I'm still kinda tipsy after reading Cowboy Take Me Away! So this review is more of a rambling.
CTMA totally did it for me! It was everything I wanted in a book and more. We get to see Carson and Carolyn's love story of fifty years unfold and it was truly beautiful.
I loved Carson! But I absolutely adored Carolyn. After reading the fifteen books prior to CTMA it gave me insight to their relationship and views that we've seen in their prior scenes.
What surprised me the most was Carolyn's sister Kimi. She had me laughing my butt off, and I wish I could of seen more of her and Cal.
This was the perfect ending for my favorite series. Lorelei you did a fantastic job my friend. Now I wanna sit down and have a few drinks with you and reminisce about all the men and women in this fictional town.

I don't even know where to start for my review. I have so many emotions swirling around inside me after finishing Cowboy Take Me Away. On the one hand, it was such a fantastic read and I adored every moment I got to spend with the McKay family once again. But on the other, I'm so very sad to see the Rough Riders series come to a close making it very bittersweet too. I found myself only able to read a bit at a time not only because it was so very emotional, but because really I just didn't want to reach the end either. This book made me laugh, made me cry both tears of joy and sadness, and I overall made me cherish each and every single moment I got to spend with them.

In this story, you get to see how Carson and Carolyn fell in love witnessing just how truly special these two characters are. They have an extremely rare and eternal type of love that has already spanned fifty years when the story starts. I'm not going to divulge any particulars, because I would never dare spoil anyone's enjoyment of this story. Just know that as we revisit their past through their memories, you will not only get to see the loving times that brought them together, but also the hard times that shaped their relationship as well.

Now for me as a reader, the Rough Riders books have always been the embodiment of everything I've ever looked for in a series. I've watched the family grow and change through all their struggles, but I've also known that the real glue of the family has always been Carolyn and Carson. Being able to go back and read their story was so very sweet, sexy and romantic, and it really showed me how their love is the enduring type that will carry them through anything that is thrown their way. I admire the love and devotion they have for each other and their family, and I envy the bonds that tie them all together. Through thick and thin with laughter and tears, this is one family that will always stand the test of time for us readers. I look forward to what Lorelei has for us in the future, and I hope she realizes what a significant impact her series has had on all of us. I want to thank her so much for writing this amazing series of books.

I’ve read many long running series and sometimes by that last book your ready for it to end and maybe even disappointed with how the author chose to end the series. That was sooo not the case with Cowboy Take Me Away. This is the 16th book in the series and its the best of them all and I really loved all the previous books so that says it all right there.
In total, this book spans 60 years but it’s the first 50 that is at the core of it. It’s the telling of Carson and Carolyn’s love story and their triumph of beating the odds and loving each other as much 60 years later as they did when they first met.
In the previous books we’ve gotten glimpse through their children’s stories about their marriage and how it all started but this books gives us all the details along with also showing us about the other three brothers, Calvin, Charlie and Casper, and how they were before they married and then when they find their significant others.
Carson and Carolyn had six kids that we had already come to love from their books. To get to experience when they were born and all growing up just enriched those characters all the more. Some of the funniest scenes in the book where when those 6 hellions were growing up and what they put their parents through.
It is extremely sad that this was the final book but even though I am sad their wont be anymore McKay shenanigans to read about at the end of this book I felt satisfied that it had all come full circle and don’t feel like anything thing was left unfinished. Bravo Lorelei for giving us a wonderful cast of characters to fall in love with over the years and giving us a beautifully written ending to the McKay saga!!

Lorelei James has saved the best for last. I absolutely love the way she delivers the final Rough Rider book by going back to the start of it all. We've met all the McKay brothers and cousins...we know they are brawling, drinking, sexy cowboys that ride hard and love harder. Now we see who they got it from. Carson McKay has to be the baddest of them all, and Carolyn West proves she's the woman to tame him. Through a series of "memories", LJ takes us back through the eyes of both Carson & Caro to some of the major events that shaped their lives as they met, married, & raised their family of 5 boys & 1 girl over 50 years of marriage. If you think the McKay boys are hot, wait until you meet Carson at age 24...turn on the a/c - you'll need it. This story is a bronc busting hell of a read that will make you laugh, cry, and say "Oh My!" I love that LJ has given us both the good and the bad as we all know the road to a lasting marriage is not always a smooth one. I applauded Carolyn each time she stood up to Carson and called him on his "shit". This book is a Must Read...it is smokin' hot and yet filled with loving, tender moments between two people who were meant to be. A Must Read! I'll say it again - A Must Read!! Lorelei James has done it again, I don't know how with each book she can write such a different story while maintaining the style and complexity of this series and staying true to her characters but she can and she does. This book marks the end of her long running Rough Riders series and it takes us back to the beginning to one of the original McKay hell raisers, Carson, and the woman who bring him to his knees from the moment he meets her. Their story was sweet, it was sexy and despite Carson's opinion to the contrary it was romantic. Damn man! This book was spans six decades through their trials and tribulations, through good and bad, lean and flush, thick and thin, sickness and health, and children and empty nest. I loved seeing Carson and Carolyn from the beginning and all their different sides and there are many. I loved seeing that despite seeming a very gentile western woman, Carolyn is as strong as they come and she will fight tooth and nail to keep her family together. Carson showed he has a tender side one than is rarely seen by anyone but his wife and that he will protect her and keep her from harm no matter what or who gets in his way. So many memorable moments; some sad, some enlightening, some humorous, but always, always filled with love and devotion. Well done Ms. James you've outdone your best and your best was already heads above so much else out there!

I never do reviews but for this book, this series, I feel that even a short one is well warranted.
I had never thought that I would be interested in contemporary western romance but after reading the first book in the series I was hooked and, for lack of a better word, devoured each and book as they came out. So when it was announced that this was the last one I had a WTF moment and then to find out that it was, for all intents and purposes, a prequel that feeling increased since I have found that not all prequels do justice to the series in which they belong. But after devouring Cowboy Take Me Away I find that any misapprehension I felt was entirely unwarranted.
Lorelei James not only gave me an amazing story about Caro and Carson McKay, but also found a way to include all of the family members, in some way, that we have come to love and give us updates on them as well and in some cases a little back story, which was a huge bonus.
While I'm sad that this series is over, I am more than satisfied with how it was ended.
Thank you Ms. James for sharing this family with all of us.

If I could give more than 5 stars for a book this would be one. I have loved Lorelei's books from the beginning. What she has done with the MacKay/West family has been amazing. From the first book until this one she has shown us what being a family truly means to be. And it is not always sunshine and rainbows. It's heartache and pain and disappointment. We all have a favorite family member mine was Colt and Cam, but after reading this book I have to say Carson and Carolyn are now it. Seeing how they spent the last 50 years getting to this point was awesome. I have run the gambit of emotions on this one. Several at the same time. I've been mad sad glad hurt and laughing my butt off. Lorelei James you total Rock from friend. THIS IS A MUST READ SERIES!!!!

I write this review with a double feeling: happiness about this being a truly fantastic Rough Rider book and sadness because it's the last one. Lorelei James's LONG HARD RIDE was the book that introduced me to erotic contemporary western romance and I'll will be forever grateful for finding her books and this genre. It was my gateway to erotic romance and to the many, many, many wonderful ebooks I've bought and read from Samhain Publishing.
COWBOY TAKE ME AWAY is a worthy final book of the series, even if I'd rather seen the series continue. This is the end of the McKay family Saga, a saga filled with love, pain, hapiness, grief, heat and sexiness, family issues and joy. The start of this book immediately put me on my toes! It wasn't was I was expecting after reading the cover copy. Then I caught on on what Lorelei James was doing and I was in awe! Though I dislike flashback narrative this is one of the best ways I've seen it done. I laughed, cried, fanned myself and when I finished I wanted Cal's and Charlie's stories too so secretly I'm hoping Lorelei James will decide to go on and write those stories too.
I loved how this book answered some unanswered questions I had after the 15 books I've read in this series and how it crossed the t's and dotted the i's in a fabulous way. I also loved the visits from Carson's nephews, son and daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, kids and other family members...without spoiling I can't say much more about it but it was a brilliant move in the plot/story. It showed the family the McKays are. A family that hasn't always had it easy but are always there for each other.
Every book in this series has been fabulous. It's the only series I've read from start to finish and almost all the books as soon as they released. This last book was one of the best as it told a love story that spans over fifty years. So I got to see the courtship and the newlyweds and after that the HEA with the children, the family issues, the financial issues, the grand children. This isn't something you get often in Romance novels besides an epilogue here and there.
What the heck am I going to do without new Rough Rider books to look forward to? I'm sure there'll be a re-reading marathon of ALL the books in this series because many of the scenes reminded me of the previous couples' stories and made me long to read them all over again.

- the one in the rain after the drive-in > I LOVE sexy scenes in the rain and this one was fantastic!

Best way to told a love story ever: from beginning to end with everything in between: marriage, in-laws hating each other, children routine, couple's problems. I adored this story. I'm madly in love with Carson, by far my favorite McKay and Carolyn make us proud of all women. It closes many loose ends from previous books, at the end things accelerated a little and I would have liked that the reconciliation of Carson with his children was given to each and not only with a couple of them but still Carolyn's joke was epic and the ending worthy of the whole saga.
I sincerely believe that the author was overcome with this book and like the nurse Lisa I also want the "I can not live without you" kind of love

I cried big old ugly tears while I was reading this book. Cause in some ways it felt like saying goodbye to my own family.
I started this series with Long Hard Ride. I have to say that it was unlike anything I'd ever read before. It was with that book that Lorelei James and her rowdy McKays pulled me back into the reading fold after a long hiatus. These wild ass characters and their antics reminded me of my own crazy family. Yes, I fell in love with every last one of them. The dialogue sounded natural cause that's the way the people that I know really talk. The love scenes were smokin' hot. What can I say ? This series also turned me onto the erotic genre. I just couldn't get enough of this series.Now it's 16'th book and I still wasn't ready to let go. So for me, this book was both much anticipated and bittersweet.
I'm not gonna spoil anything, as there are fans who haven't finished it yet. I will say that Lorelei James sure picked a great way to close out her Rough Rider series. My favorite series EVER. By far. I will also say that maybe she saved the best for last. Finally, I will say that I absolutely loved the way it was written. Cowboy Take Me Away lets us see a passionate love that has lasted for over fifty years. This one is worth more than five stars.
Now I'll just go sob into my pillow ....

What a beautiful, beautiful story! I loved seeing the beginning of the McKay clan, at least this part of it. I loved seeing their beginning as well as all the time in between. The way the story was told with all the memories could have been hard to follow, but it wasn't - it was done perfectly! A great ending to a series, I've really enjoyed! (Though I'm hoping GR is wrong, it is the only place I'm seeing that says it is the last book. Because I might still be a little bitter that we were promised Sierra and Boone's story and haven't gotten it yet...)
ETA: I just read on her website that the series is ending, but we will be getting Sierra and Boone's story as a stand alone but not until 2016. I can live with that - if I have to.

I thought this book was too long. The 9000 Kindle locations were very intimidating. I also thought there was too much sex and it wasn't exactly hot. The best part of the story was when Carson and Carolyn started having kids and I could picture how each child was as a child since I'd read their story already.
I would have preferred if Carolyn wasn't in the coma for majority of the story. I wanted more present day interaction with the entire McKay brood. Overall I enjoyed this series and I guess this was a fitting way to end it.

Ah...that was beautiful! The perfect way to end this fabulous series, with the love story that started it all. The thing that gets me most about the Rough Riders series is that this family has become real to me. It's like I could go to Wyoming and find their ranches...and I'd know everything about them. Lorelei James truly has a talent for making these characters come to life, and I'd like to thank her for all the hours of enjoyment this series has given me.

This was a good ending to one of my favorite series. The rehashing of almost every book written in the series was a little annoying, but I pretty much starting skimming those sections. However, I loved the flashback memories of Carson and Carolyn's life together. My favorite was when Carson was left to take care of the kids by himself for 5 whole days and the state of the kids when Carolyn gets back.

Wow, just wow. This story begins with a terrible accident, then moves between flashbacks and present time. It tells the story of a love that has been found, tested, endured through the years, and evolved into the foundation of a family. So many lives were touched and so many lessons learned. It is an honest picture if a family. Not always happy, not always pleasant, but always family.
I laughed, swooned, and even teared up. What a wonderful ending to such an epic and amazing series.
