As elites, we tend to not have any normal experiences, but I can say with certainty that my time at AGU is as close to a college experience as I would ever get—bar the murders. And the secret society. And the—oh fuck it, nevermind. However, this is not the end of the Ashen Grove University world & there's more stories/duets to come. This book does introduce some of those dynamics that will be explored in the future.
“But someone wanted you dead, and they’re not going to stop.” The silence stretches, heavy and suffocating, as we all look at [redacted]—bruised, bleeding, and barely holding it together. And for the first time, I feel it. We’re running out of time.Just like Bound by Shadows, I had the honor of beta reading this conclusion to the story. But the beta copy I read & this final version are very different... & it’s all for the better!
Being around her gives me butterflies—a tight, nervous feeling that I can’t shake... I want to reach out, pull her into my arms, and hold her until the world makes sense again... It’s cute to see her try and ignore me. “You always study looking this good, or are you just trying to make my dick hard?” Sable finally looks up... “I’m just catching up.”I think these characters will always have a special place in my heart & this book continues to expand the Ashen Grove & secret society world introduced in BBS. I loved the balance of mystery, romance, darkness, comedy & suspense.
I lean in slightly, giving her my best smirk. “You know,” I say, lowering my voice, “If you were a homework assignment, I’d do you all night long."
Sable blinks, her eyes widening in surprise before a small smile tugs at the corner of her lips. She shakes her head, a soft laugh escaping her. “That’s awful, even for you.”
“But it got you to smile, didn’t it?”
This is the first time I’ve ever brought a girl home to meet my parents. And her boyfriend. Does that make Silas my boyfriend too? It does, right? But we don’t—The doorbell chimes, cutting off my train of thought...Katie really explored the why choose genre & how those romantic dynamics would work with our cast. (Spoiler: it’s very spicy & makes total sense... plus, it’s gonna make you giggle & kick your feet... they were some of my fave moments in the book.)
“What I feel for you is fucking explosive,” he murmurs. “Nothing in my life made sense until you walked in. Every time I thought I wasn’t good enough—wasn’t worth anything—you made all that shit disappear... The way I love you. The way I love Sable. It’s not more or less. It’s just… you.”Plus, the story is wrapped up perfectly: we find out who the “unaliver” is & we get some answers to questions from BBS. However, there’s also more of the secret society storyline that’s teased, leaving us with more questions about the sinister group. Overall, this book is such a good time! I laughed, gasped, hated KT for some of the shocking twists (only briefly & only in the best ways), did some giddy feet kicks, & I already want to reread it because I love this crew!
He’s right. Loving Levi has never meant loving Sable less. Just like loving Sable doesn’t take anything away from what I have with him. It doesn’t shift, doesn’t divide. It just is—this consuming, undeniable thing that neither of us asked for but couldn’t resist if we tried.
“We didn’t choose this. Not really. It just happened.”
