There are so many wonderful things that I love about this novella--The letters coming from the MMC's family were my favorite part! I also enjoyed the multiracial characters and the surprise ending!

This has to be Abigail Kay's best story to date.

The beginning has you cosy and warm with an old-fashioned Christmas of an age long ago. Then you are shocked...

The letters were my favorite and the best part. They perfectly presented the themes of forgiveness and true repentance, along with the reminder to look for the good in life.

Snowball wins the cutest kitten scene award 😍. Nora was certainly a case 🤣.

CW: Gunshot wounds (mildly described), stictching up a wound, a baby out of wedlock (in the past, not described)

My Rating/Age Recommendation:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 out of 5 stars)/ 16+

This was the perfect Christmas read to wrap up the 2025 reading season.

I'm also super excited about the sneak peek at the end 👀.

4 stars. This is my other favourite cover of the series. It's so simple and pretty!! I enjoyed the story, too, with a cute little story and a sort of redemption/reconciliation arc, as Lew struggles with family lies—the letters were a great touch! Stella Mae and her sister were so cute—especially her sister—and overall it was just a fun Christmas story with the right amount of depth and humour, and another of my favourite carols worked into it.

Christ-centered tale of forgiveness and peace

From the first lines you can’t help but immerse in the pain of sin and betrayal and the consequences they bring to the male character’s life. And as you immerse you can’t help but long for the peace and comfort for him which as the author pints out can be found with God only. There are dark, hard topics brought up in this novella but also light and love of Christ that shine so much brighter and bring reconciliation and forgiveness.
Add to that a sweet romance and engaging style, and you’ve got a book that warms the hearts and points to Christ.

Possible triggers: slavery, child outside of marriage, racism

I had a privilege to read an advanced copy and loved it! All opinions expressed are my own.

I liked the redemptive storyline, especially the letters to the MMC at the end of each chapter. However, I had some issues with the writing style. Also, while I’m usually not too bothered by typos (especially in indies) I was really thrown for a loop when the year was listed as “1946” for two chapters. The story takes place in 1845-46, so it seemed like there was quite the time skip there for a second!
