Excellent short essays about the settling of the North American west from about 1820 to 1950. You have no idea.
Chronological, each covers a slice of time in a particular area. Non-fiction.
Some essays are from noted writers: Melville, Irving, Thoreau, Cooper, Stevenson, Whitman, Twain, Wister, Emerson, Trollope, Wilde, Borges, London, Dos Passos, Steinbeck, Kerouac, McMurtry, Hemingway, Wolfe, Didion, and noted others.
