Marked Ones are the most feared creatures in the Realm of Evaria; twisted abominations of man and beast who masquerade as everyday people. The inhabitants of Evaria have long known that the only good Marked One is a dead Marked One. That is unless you are the Marked One in question. Selene has hidden her dark gift for most of her life, working hard as a Rider to support her mother. Life is quiet in her small town and the money she makes running dangerous errands is just enough to get by. One errand is much like the next until her secret is discovered by a particularly nasty Praecyr named Ranur. The discovery of the dark swirl of lines on her body is a death sentence that has her headed to the Sending Tree as a warning to her kind. By using a power that she has long been forbidden to touch she manages to escape her captors, only to find herself alone in a world that despises her. Selene’s flight takes her to the steps of King Graelen’s castle, the ruler of Evaria. Her past as a Rider and natural talent with a sword make her an excellent candidate for Graelen’s coveted elite guard, the Aranth. The offer of a new life and a chance to someday avenge those who tried to kill her are more than she can resist. She joins their ranks, but quickly learns that life as an Aranth is not all it seems. Secrets are thick in the castle, and Selene finds herself at the center of a series of events that will either save the Realm of Evaria or tear it apart.
Angele Mort was born in Ottawa, Canada and grew up in several provinces and states in the US. She began her professional career in theatre, studying costume construction and design. After several years she decided that theatre was not right for her and began studying biology in hopes of pursuing a career in veterinary science.
In 2004 Angele created the outline for what would become her first novel in the Evaria series; A Raven's Flight. For several years she toyed with the story and its characters as a hobby and a way to pass the time. In 2006 Angele decided to take her hobby to the next level and began writing the first draft of her novel. Over the next year and half she dedicated much of her free time to writing and learning the craft of fiction writing. In 2013 Angele picked her book up again and finished it. Evaria; A Raven's Flight was published in May of 2014 and is available to purchase on Amazon.com.
Angele currently lives in Oregon with her two children, husband, dog and cat. She works for an emergency veterinary clinic, helping take care of animals as well as their parents. Angele is currently working on the second novel in the Evaria series, which she hopes to have ready for publication sometime in 2015.
I loved this book! Selene is a strong willed, fierce, and brilliant female lead and the men aren't far behind. The scenes are wonderfully written and the world of Evaria comes to life. I truly enjoyed this book and regret that ended. I highly recommend that anyone and everyone read A Raven's Flight.
This was exactly what I needed for those lazy summer days when I wanted to "get away" with a book. Engrossing story, enjoyable characters, and a great pace that keeps you hooked for hours.
I really enjoyed this book! I liked the people in the story and found myself just as involved with the secondary characters as I was with Selene. The pacing was great, I never found myself skimming pages or skipping ahead. Mort creates a beautiful playground that has wonder and adventure around every corner. I highly recommend it!
I appreciated that the book did not slap people over the head with explanations as some fantasies have a tendency to do. The beginning of the novel was fast paced and allowed me to get sucked in.
I like the development of the main characters, and appreciated that there weren't many lulls in the adventure. Definitely excited to see what comes next in this world!
A great start! While slow to get rolling, the build is worth it as Evaria becomes a fast paced YA fantasy that left me eagerly awaiting more in this series. I've already begun lending my copy to friends, and there is no greater stamp of approval.
Evaria was engaging and addictive - just the escape I needed! The story flowed well and the characters reminded me of people I know, which made it easy to relate to. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!
