Rivals on reality radio... one award nomination reception... one picture.
Hunter and Annie hadn’t met, not until they were thrown together by their bosses to justify that kiss. One kiss, one picture, and their worlds collide. Their audiences clamour for more. The press are speculating, and truthfully... they can’t stand each other. But now they’re in each other's lives, because how can they walk away from that picture with their credibility? Each spend show after show goading and teasing the other, so their bosses come up with the solution – fall in love... though not really, of course. Nevertheless, the competition is heating up and the numbers are too close to call. Hunter’s boss Theo won’t have it. They need edge. They have to win this, because both stations are running the same format. Whoever wins the award takes it all... the loser will have to cancel. Annie’s getting under Hunter’s skin. Theo questions his professionalism, and demands that he proves his mettle. Ethical, schmethical – get into the girl’s underwear, make her believe it’s real, and she’ll be begging them to win the award. The fragile trust between the pair burgeons, yet their careers drive their lives, and this was always just a gimmick... wasn’t it? Then Annie makes the move and invites Hunter into her bed... what’s a man to do?
Writing has always been a big part of my life. Since I was a child I've known exactly where my passion lay. No matter what's gone on in my life writing has been my touchstone. After all, we all need a place to escape to. Reading is my idea of heaven. There's nothing I like more than to switch everything off, close the bedroom door, and curl up with a good book. I have a feeling that's something all at Goodreads can identify with.
Thanks for taking the time with me today. Now do something for yourself, go and curl up in your own reading heaven.
When Hunter and Annie (radio host rivals) are thrown together for rating purposes, no one expected their fake relationship to become real. After a chance encounter that lead to a very public kiss, the only thing they can do is go along with the program. But somewhere along the line, things stopped being scripted.
When I started this book, I felt just like Annie did. I was NOT going to fall victim to Hunter with his smooth and sexy persona. But just like Annie, as I started to see the real Hunter (not his radio personality) I fell in love with him. Although Annie tries to convince herself that she believes this is all for the show, she develops very real feelings for Hunter and is scared of what will happen when the "skit" is over. Hunter on the other hand has no problem accepting his true feelings and confessing them, but will it be enough for Annie when she still harbors doubts about his real motives? Is this all about the ratings or could he possible love her for real?
What I really enjoyed about this book was that Hunter is not your typical, sexual playboy who has tons of conquests and then decides to settle down with the heroine. Sure he plays up his charm on the radio, but he makes it clear to Annie that he's not into one night stands and he doesn't just go looking for women to bring home. This is a much different character than you find in most romance books. And while the sex scenes are not as hot as some of Scarlett Finn other books, there is still enough heat to get your imagination going:) I would highly recommend this book for a fun and sexy read.
I don't usually read non-paranormal books anymore, but I read Explicit instructions by Scarlett Finn (a romantic suspense) which I really enjoyed. Hunter and Annie were so cute together. I loved their give and take and the slow fall into love. Everyone needs a Hunter in their life. ;)
Hunter and Annie are THE rivals of reality radio. Though they talk about each other (bashing each other, really) during their respective shows, they haven't met until the nomination night for an award where they both had one too many drinks and the press caught hold of them in a rather compromising position.
They were summoned by their bosses and these four heads came together to keep the public buzzing. Hunter and Annie find themselves in another compromising position and the bosses came up with one solution: fall in love. Or at least, make the public believe it.
It's just a gimmick.
At least... in the beginning it is.
I love the plot! I love the characters - side characters included! Hunter and Annie are opposites but they have good chemistry together - instead of clashing, they compliment each other. I love the author's writing style! I love the articles at the beginning of every chapter regarding the development of Hunter and Annie's lovelife - according to the public anyway. The angst level is just right, making up for the overall quirkiness of the entire book.
Lots of things going on but nothing to the point of chaotic. Lively. I think that's the right word. An unconventional and refreshing romantic comedy. A MUST READ!
Annie and Hunter are bitter rivals...both vying for the top spot with a new reality radio format. Neither expected the kiss or how the kiss would change everything.
What starts out as hoax quickly turns into so much more but Annie refuses to let herself believe something so wonderful can be real. Can Hunter show her he is in this thing for the long haul or will the secrets he is keeping ruin everything?
So, I was intrigued by this book after reading the first chapter on the authors website and couldn't wait to see what happened next. The story is told in a unique way alternating between Annie and Hunter and the way things look from a gossip columnist. Annie and Hunter were a lot of fun. Both are stubborn, strong willed characters with something to prove and pasts that don't allow them to trust easily. But even with that, they fall into a relationship quickly. My only complaint is the complete and total lack of heat in this book...there are no sex scenes, not one. Hunter has so much potential as a strong alpha, it would have made this book amazing to see the intimacy in their relationship.
My thoughts:
Quick hook or slow starter? 4 (I was pretty much hooked from the first chapter) Character development: 4 Level of Romance between characters: 4.5 Passion/Heat level: 2 (there is no heat...a few kisses but that's all you get) Angst/Heartbreak: 3.5 (it gets a little sad toward the end but you can totally see it coming) Cliffhanger?: No, this is a stand alone story...all wrapped up in the end.
Overall, it was a good read that has potential to be great. As long as you go into it knowing you will get romance without the heat, I think you will enjoy it.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
So it's ridiculous o'clock in the morning, I have work tomorrow but honestly - I don't think I care! I SO enjoyed this book. The main characters were likeable and funny and sexy and everything I'd want in a couple. The story was great and although i guessed what would happen very early on, I still enjoyed reading it play out. I liked that there was no actual bullshit and Hunter did bust his ass to make it up to Annie.
So, why have I not given this excellent book 5 stars? Well there's 2 things: firstly, Hunter was an absolute beaut but I need my men a bit more alpha, he had it in him and at times it snuck out but I needed more, that's just my personal taste. And secondly, I really liked the newspaper articles that were slotted into different places in the book but at times they were long and tedious and I found myself skimming. Let's get back to the story already!
To conclude, I did love this book - it got a plethora of different emotions from me and I'd totally recommend it if you want a happy read with a stellar couple that contains a sweet, funny and cute guy and his fiesty woman!
Thank you for allowed me to read your book in exchange for an honest review Scarlett - I truly loved it.
I ran through every emotion with this book. To say it was awesome is an understatement, but its all I have, so...it was AWESOME! As soon as I started the book, I was hooked. I could hardly put it down. I had it with me through both the dishes and laundry today. My husband teased me, but my daughter is an avid reader, so she understands. Read the blurb and then read the book. I can't say much without having to hide this with spoilers, so I will say that I loved Hunter and Annie. Their banter was great. Their individual friends made the stories in the background pop. I loved reading the media releases on their relationship. That part was a really fun and fresh idea.
First off I always like to put it out there that I received an ARC for an honest review of RivalsONAIR. Now that I have that out of the way I have to say this was a great read, about radio rivals Hunter and Annie and their dislike of each other spurs radio listeners on until there are caught in a compromising position in a photo at a public event and have to become a couple to draw in listeners . Without giving too much away Hunter and Annie cannot stand one another at first and their banter is quite hilarious. The pace of the book is perfect nothing seems rushed and the entire story line is both hilarious and heartwarming. If you are looking for a funny yet heartfelt book than this book is for you.

Dnf at 12%. I love Scarlett's other stuff, but just couldn't get into this one despite trying multiple times. May give it another whirl down the road, but shelving for now.
