Maverick's Black Cat

Research. It was all in the name of research, or that's what Catarena keeps telling herself every time she meets Maverick online. In exchange for his knowledge of D/s relationships, Catarena willingly becomes his apt pupil, giving over her mind, body and soul to his commands.

Their relationship seems to be made in online heaven…until the webcam turns on, unveiling a familiar face to Catarena's startled eyes.

Mason can't get his cyber student out of his mind. BlackCat is a dream come true to this dominant man, every lesson bringing them closer to the brink of something wonderful. But when he tries to heat things up by turning on the camera, something goes incredibly wrong and his Kitten runs from him.

Finding his cyber vixen proves to be a hopeless mission until fate steps in, revealing Catarena in the most unlikely of places.

Maggie Casper's life could be called many things but boring isn't one of them. If asked, Maggie would tell you that blessed would more aptly describe her everyday existence.

Being loved by four gorgeous daughters should be enough to make anybody feel blessed. Add to that a bit of challenge, a lot of fun and an undeniably close circle of friends and family and you'd be walking in her shoes.

A love of reading was passed on by Maggie's mother at a very early age, and so began her addiction to romance novels. Maggie admits to writing some in high school but when life got in the way, she put her pen and paper up. Seems that things changed over the years because when she finally decided it was time to put her story ideas on paper, the pen was out and the computer was in. Took her a while to catch up but she finally made it.

When not writing, Maggie can usually be found reading, doing genealogy research or watching NASCAR.

I've always been scared of the heavy BDSM scenario, so I was a bit wary when I started reading this story. Even though this book was recommended to me by a fellow reader who knows how wimpy I am when it comes to kinky sex scenes, I couldn't help experiencing some heart palpitations when I decided to give it a try. Now that I'm finished reading it, I'm still having heart palpitations... but they're the good kind. ;)

Catarena Vaughn has dreamed of becoming a writer for years, but success hasn't knocked on her door yet. Decided to write an erotic novel set in the BDSM world, she turns to the internet for research - after all, we all know we can find anything online these days, right? So she dons the cyber name "Black Cat" and joins a cyber sex site to get the info she needs to write a realistic BDSM novel. She just wants to lurk around and see what's going on, but she's quickly disgusted by all the leery suggestions she receives while hanging around and decides to leave the main board and enter a different chat room. Best. Decision. Ever!

Mason "Maverick" Broderick knows all about the BDSM lifestyle, even though he isn't either a Dom or, perish the thought, a Sub. He just needs to be the one in control, all the time and all the way, knows how to deliver a good, arousing spanking, and likes to play with toys. He's joined the cyber sex site on a friend's request, but it looks like he's been stood up. So when "Black Cat" enters his chat room unexpectedly and he learns what she's looking for, his interest is piqued and he's more than happy to provide her with all the info she needs... as long as she agrees to "play" online with him. Oh well, a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do, right? All in the name of research, of course!

Maverick and Black Cat's online relationship gets hot and steamy pretty quickly, and the sexual tension escalates until he becomes quite obsessed with her. But everything is "safe and sound" since they don't know each other outside their private cyber world. Or do they?

Wow, I'm still surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. So many things (the BDSM scenario, cyber sex, voyeurism, Mason and Caterena's real life relationship, etc.) could have rubbed me the wrong way, but it all worked out fairly well. Mason was very dominant - in and outside the bedroom - and had "stalker" printed on his forehead, but his obsessive behavior didn't freak me out because Catarena wasn't submissive in any way and could give as hard as she could get. That didn't mean she was an alpha b!tch, though. She was just strong enough to stand her ground when she needed to and to let him take control when he needed to. Their love scenes - both in the virtual and the real world - were scorching hot, and it was a good thing I had a full bucket of ice in my freezer, LOL.

All in all, this was a very good read, with likable (and a bit kinky) characters, an interesting plot that was more than just about sex and "research", and a nice and satisfying HEA. Definitely, one of the best romantica novels I've read.

This was such a hot, fun book to read. I wasn't sure about the whole internet theme but wow was it sexy.

Maverick was a man who loved to be in control and knew that he found someone special in Black Cat. They meet at an internet chat room when Catarena aka "Black Cat" is trying to research BDSM for an erotic novel she is writing. He used to be into the lifestyle and is intrigued by Black Cat. They set up times to "meet" online so she can learn more about the lifestyle. They have some hot and heavy sessions as Maverick teaches her about giving up control. Maverick sends her a web cam so they can see each other because he really wants to meet her. Catarina flips out when she recongnizes her boss in the camera and cuts off all contact with him.

Maverick aka Mason Broderick becomes obsessed with finding the girl he knows as Black Cat because he thinks they have something special together. Catarena has to deliver his mail at work sometimes, which is how he finally recognizes her after searching frantically for a week. Wow was that a hot scene in his office!

The love scenes and tension were scorching in this book. I thought Maverick was very hot in spite (because?) of his tendency to control. I enjoyed Mason and Catarena's story, though I wouldn't have minded a few more love scenes after they find each other. Great book!

What a great book. Mild BDSM, Alpha male, strong heroine, and really really hot sex!! If those things appeal to you, get out your gloves and read this book.

Catarena is going to do it. She's going to write her erotic book...about BDSM. Now she just needs to do a little, OK a lot, of research since she's never actually done this...just thought about it alot.

Enter Maverick. He doesn't think about it...it's just how he is, what he is. And he can't believe he's found the perfect woman for himself...in a fetish chat room?!?

I enjoyed the whole book. From the first part, where they met and interacted (sizzle) on-line to the second part, where they met and interacted (more sizzle) in person. I would definately buy another book by this pair.

"4.5 stars" Maverick's Black Cat was a seriously hot and steamy erotic romance with some very appealing elements. Even if I weren't married, I can't say that I would be too keen on having cyber-sex with a presumed stranger, but the authors certainly did a good job of avoiding the “ick” factor and making that part of the story a very attractive and sensual fantasy. It was also a great way to build some fabulous sexual tension. Once the hero and heroine realize they know each other and get together in real-life, they heat things up all over the place with some pretty creative love scenes that have lots of variety. I liked that the authors took a little time out in between all the steamy sex to tell a little bit of story about Catarena writing her book, dealing with her smarmy supervisor at work, and the couple tackling Mason's control issues, as well as showing their relationships with their respective best friends. It's not a lot, but it was just enough to keep me from getting from getting bored with all the sex.;-) After reading Maverick's Black Cat and another similar novel (Hannah Murray's Jane and the Sneaky Dom), I'm beginning to think that some of the best erotic romances are the ones that do focus more on the sexual relationship and don't try to be something else (eg. suspense, paranormal, etc.), because thus far in my experience, those parts of the story usually tend to suffer in the process.

Since Maverick's Black Cat was a relatively short book that is jam-packed with red-hot lovin', there isn't a great deal of backstory given on Mason and Catarena, but I felt that the authors developed their characters fairly well in the here and now. Mason is the millionaire owner of a Fortune 500 company and a dom who feels the need to be in control in everything. When he chances to meet Catarena in a BDSM chat room where she is trying to do research for an erotic novel, Mason is instantly attracted to her sharp tongue and the challenge she presents. I can enjoy a dominant hero from time to time, but there came a point where Mason started to scare me a little with his caveman act. The minute he realized who Catarena was, Mason dragged her into his office and took her over his desk for the very first time with a rather angry attitude and no preamble or foreplay whatsoever. Even though Catarena didn't protest much and seemed to like it, this felt a little too close to forced seduction for my taste. At that point, if I had been Catarena, I probably would have run the other way screaming.;-) Of course, she stuck around, but I have to say that I greatly admired her feistiness and how she let Mason know right from the start that she wasn't going to put up with him being a control freak or let him push her around outside the bedroom. Eventually, she did do a very respectable job of taming the “wild beast.” Mason apologized for some things he'd done and sufficiently “made it up to her” for me to like him in the end. I felt like he was really putting forth effort to change, and all their love scenes, other than the one that bothered me a bit, were quite scrumptious.

Overall, Maverick's Black Cat was a fun erotic romp that I mostly enjoyed. Being the realist that I am, I liked that the authors kept Mason and Catarena's online play “safe” by not giving out real names or addresses. I also thought it was helpful that they had a prior relationship of sorts even though they didn't know each other well. This along with the authors progressing the narrative over a few months time made them falling in love more believable. On the downside, there were a number of editing errors (typos, incorrect word choices, poor grammer, etc.), but otherwise, I thought it was pretty well written. I've also come to the conclusion that this is kind of par for the course with many Ellora's Cave books and try to overlook it as much a possible. If it hadn't been for Mason scaring me a couple of times, I probably would have given the full 5-stars to this novel, and even as it was I would still call it a keeper. Maverick's Black Cat is the first book in Maggie Casper and Lena Matthew's The Boulevard series. The next book, Friends with Benefits, features Mason and Catarena's best friends, Sebastian and Bailey, as the hero and heroine. What I saw of these two characters in this book, I really liked, and if Maverick's Black Cat is any indication of things to come, I'll definitely be looking forward to reading Friends with Benefits as soon as I can get a copy.

Note: This book contains explicit language and a number of very explicit sexual situations which some readers may find offensive including exploration of D/s relationships, a visit to a BDSM club, mild voyeurism and exhibitionism, spanking, toys, and anal play with a toy.

You never know who you might be talking to while chatting online. You could be cybering with a 6'5 Dark Hunter or a loser still living in his momma's basement. Or you might be engaging in cyber sex with the rich and handsome owner of your company. Catarena signs onto an online BDSM site as BlackCat, hoping to gather information on her new book. Disgusted by the online posters who keep pestering her with invitations for golden showers, BlackCat scurries away and hides in a private chat room that a man named Maverick is hosting. They start talking and pretty soon Cat realizes she's found the perfect font of information and Maverick has discovered a new challenging toy. Mason has grown bored with his endless bevy of beautiful, submissive women. He's been a dominant his whole life and sees in his little Kitten a fascinating new challenge that he can't wait to meet headon. He lures her in with information and her own awakening desires and fantasies of submission. Their online posts only get hotter and more erotic and pretty soon it's not enough for either of them. Mason sends his Kitten a webcam, determined to bring her out into the light. She's game until she gets a good look at his face and freaks. Her secret fantasy, her mysterious Maverick, is none other than her boss's boss. As in the owner of the Fortune 500 company she works for. Mason Broderick is way out of her league and terrified, she pulls the plug on their relationship. Literally. Furious, Mason is determined to track down his wayward little Kitten but as luck would have it, she falls into his lap while at work. Their games of foreplay have come to an end and their passion erupts (hehe) ontop of his desk. Now that their relationship is in the flesh, both of them need to learn to open up and trust, while falling deeper into their games of dominance and submission. Cat is a natural but she still resents Mason's heavyhanded interferance in her life and tries to get him to calm his caveman attitude. Mason for the most part, doesn't change, but he tries to relax his arrogance and dominating personality for her but when a coworker steps over the line at work, his protective instincts come roaring out as does his love for his wayward little Kitten.

This was such a good story!! I can't recommend this enough. The online postings between BlackCat and Maverick were hot as hell, and didn't drag on too long either. It was basically foreplay and when the two finally do meet in real life, it's explosive and to the point. While this was definitely all fantasy, I mean, come on, how many rich, gorgeous men do you find chatting over the internet these days? This was still an excellent, well rounded story. Maggie Casper and Lena Matthews helped flesh out the story with two extremely likable characters in Bailey and Sebastain, Catarena and Mason's friends. That these two supporting characters also seem destined towards an HEA only adds to the fun factor. While this was a D/s oriented story, it doesn't really go further than some mild spankings, so it wasn't anything outrageous or over the top. There was no menage and there was some fun attention towards the butt area. All in all, this was an extremely fun story to read and I couldn't stop smiling or laughing (or squirming) at this extremely likable story.

Cat wants to write a book and she researches the web on BDSM. She meets Maverick in a chat room. He offers to educate her on the life style as long as she does what he wants her to on the web. They have a relationship on the web until Cat finds out who he is. Maverick has no idea who Cat is and has to search for her.

I liked that Cat was very strong and knew what she wanted. She had no problems putting Maverick in his place when he crossed her comfort zone. I enjoyed this book. It had had romanceand was very erotic.

I really loved this book. I thought it was a great combination of those old Harlequin romance books with the dominating male, but with a feisty female and erotica. I loved how Maverick/Mason went all alpha male and already thought of Caterena as his. Very KA like with a BDSM theme.

2.75 stars, rounding up to 3 stars, since I didn't dnf. It was close, but I'm stubborn, I guess. Good premise- or I thought it was. The h, Catarena, works in the mailroom, at a company- I don't remember what they do or make (!!??) The H is Mason, the CEO (??!!) They meet in a chatroom for BDSM followers (or leaders- ??!!) Anyhow, Catarena is on line- she tells herself- for research for writing a book on bdsm. I won't say how they meet, since that may be the one secret that the book has-and that is when I started my serious eye rolls. I did laugh a lot, but it was in parts that weren't supposed to be funny. I took a break at around 62% & thought that I would dnf. But I'm stubborn. I thought-I gotta see this through. I don't watch the Bachelor or Bachelorette, Real Housewives, etc, so, I guess this is my dose of cheese. I finished! I liked Catarena-she was funny & could have possibly worked in another plot.

Catarina has been writing for years, after several rejections she has finally ound a niche that brings out the passionate writer in her, BDSM erotic. The only thing standing in Catarina's way is she knows very little about the subject, other than what she has read in books. Wanting to find the truth behind the mystery, Catarina finds herself a fetish chat room looking to research the subject further. After several unsuccessful attempts, she finds one person, known as Maverick, who is willing to give her the truth, if in turn she is willing to let him be her cyber dom. How can she resist when the offer is so sweet, and of course it is in the name of research.

Mason hasn't been this giddy since he was a teenager, the woman known as BlackCat is needing to be tamed with her sarcastic combacks and fiesty temper, but her desire to learn outweighs it all. Mason had never participated online before, but when he was supposed to have an online meeting with a friend he ends up getting stood up, but is thrilled with the outcome. As they begin to get to know one another, Mason is ready to move to the next step, a camera for him to be able to view his student. Something goes terribly awry and Mason is left hanging and desperate to finds her. He may not have to look very far though, what he wants could be right under his nose.

4.5, loved it. It was exciting and very difficult to put down. Loved every aspect of the story.

I loved the sequel to this story (Friends With Benefits), but Maverick's Black Cat isn't quite the same.

Maverick is a dom and the CEO of a company. Catarena is a mail room employee at the company and a budding writer. She goes to a BDSM chat room to learn more about the lifestyle so that she can incorporate it in her book. Maverick and Cat hit it off. They start a cyber sexual relationship. Neither one is aware of how they are connected at work until one day Cat glimpses his face on the webcam. She immediately cuts off the cyber relationship much to Maverick's dismay. I thought the premise of the story was great given how so many people seek sexual fulfillment online.

While this book is erotic, it's not the BDSM book it says it is. The BDSM is pretty light. Lora Leigh's books have more kink in them. Maverick comes off more as an over the top alpha male than a true Dom. The sex is graphic but I've read better. You also have to suspend disbelief that the CEO of the company would act the way Maverick does when he finds out who Cat is. What he does when he discovers her identity is really out of bounds in my opinion.

Ha! This was a fun, sexy read.

I liked both characters, even if Catarena seemed a little bit judgemental at the beginning and then Mason too much of a control freak bordering on psycho, hehehe... j/k, but yeah, he was intense and came off as douchy.

By the way, I'm thinking E.L. James might have taken some ideas out of this book, and I say this because this one was published in 2007:

I'll definitely be reading Bailey and Sebastian's story. :)

Holy freakin' moly Maverick's Black Cat was a hot read. Maverick/Mason isn't in the lifestyle but sure wants and knows how to dominate. Through ims and finally vid cam, he takes brat like BlackCat/Catarena at hand while offering her his knowledge about domination. My favorite line ever "You're not an option for me, Kitten. You're a must.".

In the beginning it had me interested, but it just got worse and worse. The characters was for the most part underdeveloped, Maverick was in every way not likable at all, I could not feel the romance-part at all and it just... wasn't worth it.

I was glued page after page. This is a story for me. Conflict, the woman not backing down. Mason caring and controlling. At the end, Mason finally saw what Cat was talking about. I felt it was a well rounded story.
A book to recommend. A story to re-read. Honest opinion.

I liked it 1st..... But Mason just started to turn me off ....

Mason/Maverick met Catarena/Blackcat on line and both seemed to hooked on each other and developed a quick cast of insta lust before you could blink twice and having once forever ago having been big into what was called "talkers" via "telnet" where all we did was go chat and make friends and more often or not ppl go off into private "rooms" talk about sex showing how lonely and horny they were ;) Where you ended up telling ppl things your probably normally wouldn't but under the guise of anonymity feeling a often false sense of safety ,so on one hand I totally get the thrills Cat/Kitten got chatting to Maverick/Mason at 1st,I knew ppl in the day at Uni. Who got soo obsessed w/talking to their on line friends they stopped eating, sleeping properly and failing classes they no longer going to because the thrills of chatting on line were more important than anything .... No Cat doesn't act like that No,but I can't wrap my head around accepting the kind of gifts then commands the way she did from someone I'd know less than a week when it started .... In less than a week she was taking his commands and touching and fingering herself for him ( and BTW for me personally one of the lest sexy and most annoying things I can read in some dumb beyoch fingering herself on command,as a woman I don't see as this sexy or interesting, and as a rather unsubmissive type person I find it very annoying especially remote control as it were via instant message commands from a person you've NEVER met ! Mason tells her he will teach her about BDSM but he doesn't like that term,it's like he finds it passé or something and really just talks about what he likes, but doesn't teach her about what a true Dom. Is or what a submissive is or limits or boundaries or anything, just rather quickly starts to mentally take ownership of her in a little over a week or less has her in "his" collar and playing w/toys he's sent her on his command even he knows little to nothing about her and couldn't honestly pick her out of a line up if he had to.... Then when she finds out who he is and runs out of embarrassment and fear like just about anyone w/a lick Of sense would... He gets pissed off , like she doesn't have the right... Now ok,at 1st I loved he was worried about her and that he cared but the same time it also like it was more possessive pride as well and when he found her,I loved that he wanted to fight for her but it ticked me off the way he felt since he wanted her, he almost owned her and acted like only his wants and feelings mattered and like they were gonna be together because he said soo,she wasn't really gonna get a say in the matter... It felt like she the was his sex toy more than a person... He wasn't trying to woo her or get to know her or even try to understand her feelings or concerns,I like a strong alpha type but there's a big difference between a strong man and being steamrolled by him and her hormones... Sorry this just wasn't for me,considering my past I love the idea of finding love on line but love means mutual respect to me and I didn't see it here and didn't wanna wait for it to be found.. Good luck, just not for me...

Catarena Vaughn is lurking on a cyber sex site with the username BlackCat trying to get information on BDSM for a book she wants to write. She knows absolutely nothing about it and its getting disgusted with all the sick offers she getting while on the site. After popping into a more private chat room she encounters Maverick who challenges her on why she is there. They go back and forth in there messaging until Mason who has grown tired of the simpering Barbie doll types becomes intrigued with the "kitten" and proposes they set up a instant messaging program and he will give her 10 mins a day to ask him any questions she wants for the research for her book and then the rest of the time he will be in charge and has to do what he says.

Catarena works at a Forture 500 company in the mailroom with her bestfriend and roommate Bailey.

BlackCat and Maverick's session online get more intense. He has mailed her many "toys" and instructs her on how he wants her to use them as they are chatting online. This both shocks and intrigues Cat as she cant believe she is masturbating for a stranger online.

Mason decides its time to take things a step further and wants to video chat with his "kitten". His best friend Sebastian tags along and finds the whole thing humorous by saying "your worth millions and yet for some off-the-wall reason you feel the need to get into ciber porn." But we find out that Sebastian as a few kinks of his own. Seems these two had quite the college sex life with the girls.

After the webcams are setup and Maverick makes BlackCat masturbate in front of him Cat recognizes Maverick and quickly unplugs the webcam.

From here is gets really interesting.... I have read this book multiple times and its still fresh like I just read it for the first time.

The second book with Bailey and Sebastian is just as hot...

Interesting, well written erotica that features light BDSM. BDSM is outside of my regular wheelhouse when it comes to what I like to read about in romance or erotica, but this was just about the right right level for me.

I enjoyed the set up and execution of the romance. Cat & Mason meet online. She is doing research for a book she is writing on the BDSM lifestyle. The evolution of their online relationship from purely academic to sexual felt very natural.

The dialogue is what really lifts this romance. Cat and her best friend Bailey re quite funny in heir repartee. It had the real feel of two women who had known each other forever. It wasn't heavy and full of meaning all the time. Equally well done are the exchanges between the her and Mason. He adamantly refuses to call what he does a 'lifestyle'. He has a disdain for that moniker. He isn't putting on a suit, being a dominant is what he is all the time. Cat isn't buying what he is selling. Sure she likes the sex and a few of the kinks but she is nobody's slave. The two have some real intense conversations about what it means for a controlling person like Mason to enter into a relationship with a person who refuses to submit except sexually.

It was a quick read that I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. But I did like it enough to purchase the follow up book Friends With Benefits that features Cat's best friend Bailey and Mason's best friend Sebastian.

I had been a bit wary of this book - the premise seemed a bit OTT. However, after reading this, I am so glad I gave this book a shot.

From page one, this book grabbed me. It kept me enthralled until the very end - thank you Maggie Casper and Lena Matthews! Most of all, thank you for introducing light BDSM and not using the C word on every page. While I'm desensitized to the word, it was refreshing to see that erotica and hot steamy scenes could be written without resorting to crude vulgarity - thank you, thank you!

Definitely recommending this and Friends With Benefits to my girlfriends...or maybe I'm the one that is the last to read it in our social circle.

No synopsis/story summary here - you can read other reviews for that. This was purely based on the story.

PS Fabulous editing! Normally books that are not from the huge publishing houses tend to have typos and tons of misspellings. Whomever your editor was deserves a big pat the back and a good spanky for giving me a wonderful, almost flawless read.

I really liked this book. Catarena had a real smart-mouth that had me laughing. She was just so sassy and quickly had Mason wrapped around her finger. However, this is why I only gave it 4 stars. I went into it thinking that I was going to get a real dominant male, but as much as he kept saying that he had to be in control, he wasn't. She was.

Some of the things that she said and did really had me looking forward to her getting her ass spanked, but it didn't happen. If you are worried about reading a BDSM book, then you don't need to worry here. This book is very tame in that regard IMO. I do look forward to reading the next book in the series about her roommate Bailey. Now I know what to expect. A lite, funny, sassy book with maybe a little male domination. I'll have to see if Sebastian is a little more dominant than his friend Mason.

Most of the free books I get are really bad. They are usually novellas so they are short making the story feel rushed, unrealistic and annoying. However, this free book would have been worth buying (cheaply). If you are shy about reading BDSM then this book is not for you. However, if you can handle the spice, I thought the storyline was an interesting one. Writer trying to do some research for her book about BDSM finds someone online willing to "help" her. I found it written pretty well, for a BDSM book. It didn't make me say "Eww yuck" (at least not too many times). I would only recommend this book if you can get it for cheap or free, but that's because I don't want people thinking I spend my hard earned money on book porn (hahaha-we all know I do) and, do not loan this to the church group. You will be the subject of the next prayer meeting-LOL. TTFN-Sandy.

I was a little scared when I realized that this book was about Dom/sub relationships and the initial pages did nothing to alleviate my concerns but I did keep reading. When the hero and heroine meet everything changes...the story acquires a depth that is unexpected and the heroine and hero are suddenly likable. I won't say anything else but I did like it and would recommend. The dom/sub thing is not as strong as I feared.

Okay. It was nothing much, really. A dominant jackass (though he had his finer moments) for a hero, an independent (and rather annoying toward the end and the progress of her relationship with the hero) heroine, lots of (rather improbable in the stamina department) sex and a tiny bit of story.

But I liked it. Go figure.
