Since elementary school, I spent almost every evening in my mother's kitchen helping her prepare dinner. She showed me that cooking can be fun and simple recipes really can be delicious! I cherish all the tips and tricks she taught me and incorporate them into my daily cooking, using fresh, high quality ingredients. This cookbook is a collection of the most popular recipes shared on my blog, Just One Cookbook, over the past three years. It includes classic Japanese recipes like chawanmushi, gyudon and kitsune udon, as well as modern favorites like California rolls and green tea ice cream. I haven’t made anything bad from this book 😁 It is hard to find some of the ingredients but that’s probably just where I live 😂 I would like it if the author had a better substitute list though
Good, but the website is better. Ultimately I ended up going back to the website for most the recipes, because it gives nice pictures showing techniques and such.
I've followed Namiko Chen's blog over the past few years and have made many of the recipes she shares (since I had forgotten a lot of the Japanese food I used to make in Japan). Her blog/book was a nice refresher—along with some dishes I never knew how to make before, only eat. *There are no new recipes in the e-book that you can't find on her blog, but since I like her, I thought it only fair to purchase a copy.
**I highly recommend to anyone that enjoys Japanese food (especially since most of her recipes are fairly simple). There are a lot of familiar dishes—>to straight up homey-comfort foods. The blog/book has something for everyone's skill set and taste.
°°The only reason I gave 3☆ is because there are no new recipes in the book that aren't on her blog.
