Yet again, this was well and truly enjoyed! We had a new character (well a few to be honest) but despite the obvious chapter name... I wasn't sure how they were gonna implement this... newbie into the Apostles dynamic! Interesting... but I've got to say it was rather short lived! I loved seeing more of Cerberus in this one, however, I've come to the realisation that they don't really work TOGETHER do they?! Defeats their whole purpose really!
The start of this volume was a little meh (didn't much care for the werewolf fight and the nanotech psycho babble), but I got pulled right back in after that. Creed is such a fun antagonist, I love how his obsession with Train literally drives him insane. I also really like that the Apostles don't just mindlessly follow Creed and that there is tension within the group. Also, this new N° X is a bastard and a cutie.
The werewolf was a nice touch. I will admit, I was not expecting that. The battle was somewhat entertaining to watch. It wasn't on-the-edge-of-your-seat incredible but still an interesting battle. Train did not do anything in the battle which was quite surprising. All he did was save Rinslet. But now we have No. X and I'm ecstatic to see how much we get to see of him.
The all-out battle between the three core groups (well, Train does nothing really) puts the series at the top of its game, and solidies Chronos as a threat. While its ending feels more like a whimper than a bang, we're at least left with an impending sense of dread - the fight is not over.
The battles between Cerberus and the Apostles of the Stars is drawing to a close, and after all this planning Train is finally going to show up to do... what exactly? We get a better look at how even the Apostles and the Numbers are, Train's personal motivations, and... whatever the heck Creed is doing with a WEREWOLF. I like getting to know more of the Numbers personally but with how grave everything looks for them I'm worried that we'll spend this time fleshing out a supporting cast that then dies off in a volume.
Cerberus has managed to get past Creed's welcoming party without getting hurt or hurting them, but once they find Creed, they're pitted against a man who was turned into a werewolf before their very eyes! This man was turned into a werewolf using nano-machines, and so, by being so close to him, Eve reacts badly, and Train decides to check things out for himself. Encountering Creed, Train chooses to grab Rins and retreat, this drives Creed off of the edge and he goes even more insane with a broken heart! Creed's castle was on a timer to be destroyed, and as the castle quickly falls to pieces, No. V and No. XI come to the conclusion that since they are both on the brink of death themselves, they will sacrifice themselves to be rid of Creed while he is blinded of all reason by emotion. But will their sacrifices be in vain...?
AAahhh, this one was aweessoommmeee! And the Imagine Blade Level 2 was a very nice touch. I kind of want to draw a Train and Creed yaoi/shounen-ai picture now... And make a Black Cat AMV with the song Mercy by Hurts, as well... LOL. I PLAN ON DOING BOTH EVENTUALLY, SO DON'T RESTRAIN FROM ASKING FOR LINKS TO EITHER IN THE COMMENTS OF THIS REVIEW. ;3 No matter how soon or how long after I post this. XDDDD AND YAAAAYYY SHAOLEEEEE!!<3 HE IS EVEN CUTER IN THE MANGA, BUT ALSO EVEN MORE OF AN ASSHOLE!!<3 SHAOLEEEE<3 Train, Creed, Jenos, and Charden were all also very sexy in this one as well! Me gusta mucho! I love this angst in this as well, I could hear and feel it in the voices I gave them in my head! Aaahh, angst!!<3
Did anyone else notice that the Goodreads description for this book was about Megaman NT Warrior? Hahaha
Anyway, Train left underground organization Chronos to live his life on his own terms - two years later, he's working with his partner Sven as a sweeper. The action scenes are well-choreographed, the art is good, and the plot is easy to follow and (mostly) believable. I also liked some of the character developments:
I disliked that all the women are basically useless again. Rinslet needs saving and Eve (who was a total monster/destroyer in the beginning) is rendered useless. UGH. This series really struggles with its perception of women.
That said, can we pause for a second and talk about how much the art has improved since volume one? I mean, wow!
There is a showdown between Creed and some of the Chrono Numbers with some surprising twists and turns. Who will come out of this unscathed? Will Rinslet, make it out of the old castle? And what will Train do? The unexpected makes this a fun volume to read!
