Braita’s only strength against the deadly Mian is the blessed sun that lights the day hours.

On a mission to find her best friend, Jax, she must infiltrate the Crank Pit, a brutal complex where Mian enter, only to leave absent a heartbeat. Nothing transpires as planned. Braita’s reckless behavior lands her right into her adversaries’ custody—the Plumas of the east. Such a disappointment...

Braita is an awful character. I hated her since page 2. I liked her in the first book because it was so short that we didn't have the chance to realize how she is such a brat.
The writing which could have been clumsy at first sight is now weak, the world and the alien are blurred (either they are also in the author mind, or she is clumsy and not precise enough to make us understand what she imagines).
And I'm so mad that the book is, one more time, so short. The first one could have been considered as a prequel, but here the author must be kidding me.
I don't like being mean to the way authors write, but this one was really dreadful.

Long story short, don't bother goodreaders, I've been so eager to this release and even more frustrated while reading it.

Sink is the second installment in author Scarlett Dawn’s new adult, sci-fi serial: Cold Mark Saga. Kindle serials are books published in episodes, and at less than 100 pages, each installment in this serial offers pieces of an ongoing story that leaves the reader craving more. Sink pretty much picks up right where the first book Fall leaves off, and the heroine Braita finds herself in a situation that provides her with much needed information about her new world and her role within it. Although not a whole lot “happens” in this installment, it provides the reader with continued world building while leaving multiple directions for the story to go. If you enjoy the new adult and sci-fi genres, and don’t mind getting little spurts of a story at a time, check out the Cold Mark Saga.

Pro’s:
$.99 ebooks.
Scarlett Dawn!
Unique story.
Installments published within months of each other instead of years.

Con’s:
Only getting a small piece of an ongoing story at a time.
Desperately needing more due to suspenseful endings (can also be a pro though).

But hey...as long as Scarlett Dawn’s writing it, I won’t complain!

Warning: I didn't notice before, but this series is more like one book split into 3 (or more) parts :( There is pretty much no ending in book 2, and I'm not sure I would clarify it as having as a cliffhanger so much as the last chapter just suddenly stops.

I am sorry to say but this is the last book of this series that I will be reading. Why you ask? Because this "Saga" Is really one book divided into well I don't know exactly how many books, my guess will be at least 4-6 separate books. I don't know why one of my favorite authors has done this. Is it a ploy to get more money? or is she doing this as some sort of ploy to draw us in? I have no idea. What I do know is that Sink was the last straw for me. The first book gave us eight chapters, in Sink we get ten. The book starts from where we left off from the first book, a couple things happen then it ends. It took me 30 min to read and I have no idea why I wasted my money. (Even if it was only $0.99)

It's hard to give a review on the actual story because there isn't enough of it to review. If you don't mind having authors spilt a story up, then I would suggest waiting until all the stories have been published before reading them. I wont be bothering because I will not support authors who do this. I'm sorry Scarlett Dawn but I'm afraid that I am going to have to remove you from my favorite Author list. I am also going to be checking page numbers on any future books, before purchasing because if they are only a few chapters in them like this series I wont be buying them.

I will add on a positive note, that Scarlett's writing style is just as great in this series as it is in her other books. But it isn't enough to draw me back to read anymore of this series.

This was just way to short.........if this serial was offered as one whole book I think it'd easily be a 5 star read. While I liked it, very little happened. As soon as there was the slightest bit of action it ends with no warning. That just pisses me off. I think Im going to hold off going to the next one. Im just too frustrated to continue. Im tired of paying .99 to get something equivelent to a blurb. Maybe Ill give it another try when this is a complete series that way it can actually feel like im reading a REAL book with a complete story. A girl can only take so many cliffhanger style half assed endings.

Apparently, no matter what world one lives on, there is strife, a feeling of unease and certainly some differences from one side of the globe to the next. Braita is now on the planet Triaz, determined to find her friend, fellow human, Jax and figure out how to get off this planet. Okay, so she doesn’t plan so well, and things do not go according to plan as she escapes from the Plumas of the West and hides out in the enemy territory belonging to the Pluma’s of the East. Bad move, as she becomes their reluctant guest, watching actions that appear uncivilized to a human and seeing it as the normal way of life for the Mians.

Braita finds Jax, but he is not the Jax she knew, and the change isn’t a good one. What else can happen to break her spirit even more? Will she find a way to save both herself and Jax? Does he want to be saved? What about her feelings of betrayal from Malik and Leo? Does she have new options with the Plumas of the East? Does she want them?
What can I say, once again Scarlett Dawn takes on a trip that is beyond out of this world, and although a quick trip, Sink is a wonderful addition to this uniquely different series. Strap in and get comfortable and enjoy the twists, turns and revelations that Braita faces, you’ll be back into the world of reality in no time, thinking, “There’s No place Like Home…” A lot of story, a lot of fun and the wait begins for book 3…

I appreciate that these serials are under $1 but they SERIOUSLY need to become longer. It took me maybe 30 minutes to read this latest installment. To wait a month or two on for under 30 minutes of reading is really irritating. I am enjoying this series but the ultra-short length is getting old.

When I first read Fall I was completely blown away, and Sink continued the trend. I wasn’t actually expecting it to be as intense and gripping as it was, especially since I dove right in without re-reading Fall first. I usually need that refresher when it comes to serials, especially when it’s been a while since I read the previous installment. But Sink instantaneously (and ironically) submerged me completely into the Mian’s world once again, and I loved every second of it.

This serial is actually pretty far off from what I normally read, but I enjoy it immensely. It feels great to be completely distanced from the normal world for a little while, and this serial does it thoroughly. I’m hardly aware of my surroundings at all while reading, and that doesn’t happen too often anymore. It’s usually only like that when the climax comes, but Sink seriously had my eyes glued to the page from start to finish.

I adore this foreign world and its inhabitants, and I can’t imagine having to leave it after only three more volumes… I enjoy how different the Mian and humans live, how something normal for the Mian seems barbaric to Braita. I think it’s fascinating seeing the Mian through Braita’s eyes. I like how we subtly get new info of the world they live in as we go.

It doesn’t happen often that there is no clear idea of who the main character should end up with… I thought I knew in Fall, but after Sink there are suddenly more options than I originally thought, and I honestly have no idea who I’m rooting for anymore! When the Soul thing was introduced in Fall I thought for sure Malik and Leo were the ones she belonged with… But honestly – the Plumas of the east, Phila and Killeg, really took me by surprise! As did Jax and his new...uhm...friend.

I want more!

Oh! And there was some seriously hot sexual tension going on in this installment! I really wasn’t expecting that either - it was awesome!

I adored each and every bombshell in this volume, and I can’t wait for the next one! Stop releases February 1st, 2015!

Sink is the second installment in the serial series Cold Mark. You may wonder what that exactly means, well its a collection of short stories that come together to make the whole story.

This being the second addition, we now find Braita living on Triaz running from her life as the Plumas' “Soul”. She is attempting to find Jax, her best friend and fellow human taken to Triaz. Jax is residing on the Mian side of the planet, where she discovers her friend battling for his life in the Crank Pit.

The story is taking a very unexpected sexual overtone. The beings of Triaz are highly sexed creatures and it is infused in every scene.

Braita discovers more about herself, her connection to the Plumas and some very unexpected twists about her friend Jax.

My only complaint is having to wait for more of this story. It leaves us with quite a cliff hanger once again.

Dawn's world building is superb. She tantalizes as well as elicits a visceral connection to these fictitious characters. Yes, the Plumas have been total asses with their handling of Braita but do they deserve to lose it all or do they deserve a second chance. You'll have to check out the next installment in the Cold Mark Series to find out.

I didn't think anything could top Leo and Malik but then we got the Pluma's of the east <3 Braita is one lucky girl :p

This book starts where Fall left off with Braita planning to rescue her friend Jax, however what she doesn't count on is ending up in the hands of her enemies,the Plumas of the east.

The first book was about Braita and her Plumas Leo and Malik. I was surprised by the direction this book took, the dynamic between Braita,Leo and Malik had me hooked the first time round and just when I thought it couldn't get any better enter the Plumas of the east. The sexual tension almost killed me and I can't believe I have to wait until February to find out what happens when Braita is reunited with her Plumas.

My only complaint is the book was far too short ,It took me around half an hour to read and that was me trying to pace myself so it would last :/ I would have loved to have seen this series as one whole book rather than broken down into short segments.

I'm a hardcore fan and I need to mainline. I think I'm in love with Scarlett Dawn - definitely with her writing anyway.

This 2nd episode in the Cold Mark serial is a great feed-on from the 1st. The storyline continues to unfold with tidbits and extras that lead off into new paths keeping the guessing going and the tale fresh.

As usual I can't wait for the next one.... however:

I note the next book after this doesn't come out till Feb 2015. Because of the nasty cliffhangers from this author I'm going to wait up and read in a row... (OK I lied)

I know and understand that this is a short...short book. However, it needs to be longer or closer release dates.
With it being shorter it doesn't provide enough character development.
I would hold off on purchasing till the third " book" is released.

"Huffing and settling under the covers, I muttered under my breath- in English, 'Barbarians.' Dark eyes, so very captivating against his white, long hair, held mine steadily. 'That we are.' "

As a reader, I'm a fan of the cliffhanger. I love the anticipation and the reward I get when I finally get to read something I've waited for; it makes it that much more exciting for me. Sink was well worth the wait. So worth it in fact that I'm questioning my devotion to the cliffhanger. I really don't know if I can wait for the next one! (Note: If you are not a fan of cliffhangers I would wait until the completion of the Cold Mark Saga before diving in.)

I love edgy, exciting, fun, unique, and sexy sci-fi romance, and Sink is all those things. It's totally transportive and easily and immediately pulled me deeper into the mysterious world of Triaz. We're learning about the planet right along with Braita, and each new discovery adds another layer to the story that started with Fall. Braita is a really enjoyable female character to read, tough and brave yet vulnerable.

I can't fail to mention that Braita is surrounded by some seriously hot, but seriously violent alien men. The combination of raw sexuality and danger is pretty captivating. The story is fast-paced and sexy, with exciting twists, turns, and surprises, all highlighted with the author's clever sense of humor that I've come to love so much. I totally recommend this to fans of sci-fi romance, and if you've been thinking about giving it a try, the Cold Mark Saga, with it's short installments is a great place to start. I'm waiting not so patiently for the next one.

Loved the second installment as well.

Being Soul to the most powerful Vaq pair in the western hemisphere is difficult enough when you’re human and from a touch phobic society. Being Soul to a couple who’s is even worse. That’s why Braita has infiltrated enemy territory; to find her human friend and only ally on this alien planet. Jax is believed to be a slave to the plumas of the east. Much to her dismay, he’s adapted to life on Mian far better than she has.

But, yum, I’m glad she went after him, because the plumas of the east are deliciously scrumptious. I find myself rooting for the wrong team (pun intended.) Like Braita, I was mesmerized by their eyes and behavior in book 1, and I’m not ashamed to admit I as almost sorry when she didn’t end up with them;-) Now, it seems, she may get a new chance, and I couldn’t be happier. They are such interesting contradictions; alpha and compassionate, when they’re not in a killing frame of mind, that is. Braita is one lucky girl. I just hope they’re all going to do something about this delicious attraction… soon.

So while it seems she’s destined to some day return to Malik and Leo because she’s their Soul, dare I suggest a second alternative: Perhaps a ménage a quatre ;-) A Vaq times two with a shared Soul. Seems like a good idea to me, LOL.
It’s certainly a much better suggestion than Jax’s option. Just saying… *Cough, Scarlett Dawn, cough*

Speaking of Jax, how is his

I can not wait until February to find out what will happen in the next installment!!!

I can't even with this 'book'. I know it's a serial, and maybe I'm not meant for them.....It's like, I just want something to happen. At the same time I'm totally hooked.

I gave this one a low rating, not because it's poorly written, but because I'm not sure I see the point of it other than to make me think Braita is the most selfish shit ever!

Fortunately, I'm intrigued enough that I will continue. Saving graces so far being the man candy in my mind and the world building.

3.5 stars.

I'm undecided on whether I liked this one as much as the last, but I don't think I did.

I was still caught up in the story and everything but it didn't go where I expected it to and now I can't help wondering what the end game of the series will be. Who is she going to end up with in the end?

I'll be waiting a bit impatiently for the third book in the series.

This is by far one of the best new series. How people can rate it anything less than 5 stars completely baffles me. This is an exciting new world, with a mix of fantasy, sci fi and romance. Braita is strong and tough as the main characters. You wont be disappointed if you like this genre. I just wanted it to be a longer book. It was that good.

This series is SO GOOD. I wish I didn't have to wait for the next one! I'm pretty much dying to see what happens next.

We got a lot of much-needed info in this one--not really about the world (which I was kind of hoping for), but there was a good amount of explaining the whole Vaq situation, so that makes more sense now. And there have been new developments about THINGS, which I'm super curious to read more about!

The point here is that this installment was great, but I need the next one like...NOW.

~~~
4 stars - An interesting second installment to an amazing series!
While I'm not usually the biggest fan of serials, I gave Fall a shot. Why? Because I think Scarlett Dawn's the bomb diggity. Her books are awesome and I always enjoy them so much. So I wasn't going to leave one series out because of the small fact that it was a serial. I NEED some SD books in my life, you know? So I read Fall and really enjoyed it. Was left wanting to read more, so I obviously picked up Sink when I had the free time to do so. (Schoooool. It's killing me, y'all.) Just like Fall, I highly enjoyed Sink. I had little issues here and there, but overall the book was pretty darn good.
Braita's still a smart, solid chick like she was in book 1. Not much changed there, but I was quickly reminded of how much I liked being in her head. She can be impulsive, but that can be forgiven fairly easily. We bumped into her best friend Jax again, too, and I must say that I am more of a fan of him now. I don't like him more than Braita's Vaq (both of which I think Braita needs to sit down and hear them out), but I do see why she's so attached to him as a friend.
We don't have much of Leo and Malik in this one. I missed them greatly. I feel kind of bad. I see where Braita feels like it's hard to trust them now, but I don't see why she won't even listen to them explain. They're all obviously important to each other, and I would have liked very much to have gotten to know them better in this installment. Instead, we jump into a relationship forming with the Plumas of the east.
I didn't expect that relationship to spark. I don't really like it too much. I thought her Vaq were kind of great in the first book, so to see her cozying up to another pair was odd. I do think it'd be great to learn more about these guys, though. They don't seem terrible. More time spent with them, I think I could really like them. But I need more TIME. We got a taste of the Plumas of the west in book 1, and then a taste of the Plumas of the east in book 2. I side with the west right now, because I liked them bunches and they're the ones I'm most intrigued with right now. I hope things work out with them. That'd be seriously awesome. But I fear after the way Sink ended, things aren't going to work out the way I'm hoping. But we'll see.
There wasn't a lot of big things happening in this book, but there was a lot of information given that was needed. And it wasn't told in a way that made the whole story boring, which was great and a sign of Scarlett Dawn's magnificent writing. I didn't feel like this book was one big info-dump. The info given was dispersed in a way that was amusing and the opposite of boring. I still didn't get explanations I was looking for about the world, things that confused me in book 1, but there was clarification about how the whole Vaq thing works and whatnot. Usefull stuff to know. All of the was mixed in with some new advancements in the plot--such as the possible relationship with the Plumas of the east.
Overall, this series as a whole is shaping up to be amazing. I wish so hard that I didn't have to wait until February for the next book, but I suspect that it'll be worth the wait. Sink was a great second installment to an interesting series that I'm enjoying so much. I seriously cannot wait for book 3!
Sink by Scarlett Dawn is book two of the Cold Mark series and picks up a couple of days after the end of book one. Braita has run away from her Vaq and has traveled to the neighboring East where she hopes to find her friend Jax and escape together. But once there the pain from being separated from her Vaq and some unlikely alliances forces her to rely on the Plumas or leaders of the East (basically the adversaries of her Vaq).
So yeah, I loved this installment! Braita is on the run, she gets captured by the Plumas of the East, and to boot she finds her friend Jax but not exactly as she expected to find him. Braita is broken in this book after catching her Vaq in a rather compromising situation. She's hurt and angry, but mostly embarrassed and rejected. She spends a lot of the book thinking introspectively about what occurred with her Vaq and how she handled it.
Jax is up to something for lack of better phrasing. Braita finds him with little difficulty, but he is not in the situation she left him. He is no longer a slave, he fights for money, and has become something she's not sure she can fix.
Then there's the Plumas of the East...
I'm not sure about anyone else that's read these books, but I like them better than Braita's Vaq, even from their short introduction in book one. Their dynamic is completely different than the others. If Braita has questions they answer honestly and seem genuinely concerned that Braita's Vaq have not educated her more.
The plot of this short story is simple. Braita ran away from her Vaq, she wants to leave and live her own life free so she searches for Jax. Of course things are never that simple and as she learns from the Plumas of the East the plot thickens and becomes ever so more intriguing. I love how the author has slowly built the Mian world. Braita is slowly learning that they are not as vicious and cruel as she was taught they were.
Overall I loved the book as I love the series so far! But the ending or lack thereof....
Well it left me beating my head against the wall. I want...no I need more and I need it last week! I can't wait to see what is going to happen. If you normally enjoy young adult dystopians, science fiction, and fantasy, I highly suggest you pick up this New Adult novel.
FYI: I do NOT recommend this book to anyone under 18 as there is some strong language and some sexual situations.
Now if February would hurry and get here so I can continue this series...
Soooo...it's absolutely no secret that I love and adore anything that Scarlett Dawn writes. Anything. And the Cold Mark Saga is certainly no exception. This serial series quite simply rocks my socks off.
After the ending of Fall, book 1, I was left gasping and desperate to know what would happen next. Sink didn't disappoint...it just rachets up the tension and the romantic entaglements...holy crap! Knock me over with a feather - I have zero clue where in the heck Scarlett Dawn will go with Braita next or who this girl will end up with. And at this point, I'm content to hang on for the ride.
I love these Pumas, both the west and the east, although I have to admit, I'm kind of crazy about the east Pumas more. They are just....delicious. They piqued my interest in Fall and now they're back and better than ever.
Sink does end on another cliff-hanger, but those are the breaks when you get invested in a serial series. The world building is fabulous, I am in love with this crazy planet, Triaz. This is a great series and if you like novellas, or if you're just in the mood for a quick and easy read - definitely check these books out.
Despite the kindness and care she was given by the Plumas of the West, at the end of Fall, Braita Valorn ran from their luxurious compound, somehow finding her way to the city of Vlymun. Her hope is to find Jax, her best friend who’d arrived on the planet Triaz with her when Joyal, their home planet had been ravaged by a Tsunami. Braita believes she’s going to have to rescue Jax from the Plumas of the East where he’d been taken on as a slave. She finds that Jax’s station in Vlymun has changed considerably.
She sneaks into the Crank Pit only to be captured by Jax’s Plumas, who begin a weird Mian form of negotiation with her Plumas in the West to decide her fate. Braita finds that her Plumas have kept her naïve to their customs and she is also naïve to the feelings the Mian have awakened in her. In the meantime, Braita finds a much different Jax than she parted with upon their arrival on Triaz. Can she trust him?
This series continues to intrigue me, and new readers will find it a unique world fraught with different life forms, customs, and fascinating alien rituals that keep you wanting more of the Cold Mark Saga.
The story begins about a week after Braita escapes from Leo and Malik, after the shocking ending of Fall, in search of her friend Jax. She remains hidden in the underground tunnels waiting for the perfect time to reach out to him; but what she sees when she finds Jax leaves her speechless. I am completely captivated by this series and wish there was more in each book. Each time I just want to yell at the book for ending too soon, right when I am getting back into the story line it ends! Even though it may end sooner than I would like I still cannot set this series down, I was able to read both books in a single sitting. There is a new surprising twist at the end of each book in this series leaving you impatiently waiting for more. With this unique plot and group of characters you cannot help but be completely absorbed in every little detail Scarlett Dawn gives you. Stop, the third installment of this series is planned to release February 1st. I would recommend this series, and really all of Scarlett Dawn's pieces, to anyone who enjoys a great story that you can't set down once you start!!
