Sweet Dreams

Rate this book
Jen is the clumsy, bug phobic, music loving owner of Sweet Dreams Café in the small town of Maple Grove. She spends most of her time working, occasionally dating, and is generally content and happy.
When Jen unexpectedly finds herself in an elevator with Jacob Walker, A-list actor and sexiest man alive, she catches her breath, smiles politely, wishes him a good day, and amazingly keeps the encounter with the megastar to herself.
Showing up a month later at Sweet Dreams, Jake orders a coffee and blueberry muffin to-go from Jen herself, leaving her dumbfounded and feeling like an infatuated fangirl.
The two form an unlikely friendship over coffee and conversation while he films on location.
Knowing Jake won’t be in town forever, Jen keeps her attraction and her feelings for Jake to herself. She knows once he finishes filming he will leave, and life will go on as usual.
Or will it?
Under different circumstances could the friendship between Jen and Jake blossom into something more or is it all just Sweet Dreams?

I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, and have a husband and two children. Music is an addiction. I can often be found in the car, singing along at the top of my lungs to whatever is playing. I work full time, and I split my spare time between family, reading, blogging, and writing. I’m a habitual quoter. Lines from films and TV shows constantly pop into my head—my kids are the only ones that really get it. I’m an only child, and so of course I married a man who is one of ten children. Other than English, I speak Spanish, Moroccan, and a little French. I love to travel, but don’t do enough of it. Reading has been a passion for most of my life and I now love writing. I’m klutz, and in my own mind, I’m hilarious.

I really enjoyed this story! That rather surprised me because a fair amount of the angst between our main characters is fueled by poor communication. I'm normally frustrated beyond belief when that happens. I think what made it different this time was the fast pace of the story - we weren't "wallowing" in lack of communication. Also, the characters were believable and relatable. They weren't talking to each other as well as they could have, but given the situation, I could almost understand why they were choosing to keep their thoughts to themselves. The settings of the story were beautifully described. I don't even drink coffee, and I want to go hang out at Sweet Dreams Café! I've never had an interest in visiting Italy, but now I might just check out the Amalfi Coast sometime! Thank you for sharing this enjoyable tale!

Jenna Morris decides to live in Maple Grove, “a quiet, small town” where she can get away from fast paced San Francisco. Ironically, here she meets Jacob Walker an A-list actor whose movie is being filmed in the area. They become “friends” but Jenna cannot deny the feelings aroused in her each time they meet. Will their friendship turn into love or will it remain platonic?
Jennifer Senhaji writing style is fluid and coupled with witty quotes she has a knack of keeping the reader captivated. Jenna Morris’s quirky moments remind of Bridget Jones, she is funny, she talks to herself and does salsa with her customers while running a café! I loved Jennifer Senhaji’s idea of using the café as a backdrop to the story, it was such a coincidence because it reminded me of a cafe I have been to a few times in London, it is also a hangout for musicians and the manager who is amazing with the customers is also a female!
Who cares if the storyline borders on the impossible, an A-list actor and a café owner? But if you want a romantic novel and one with a taste of Italy included then Sweet Dreams is for you, enjoy it and dream away, you won’t be disappointed!

it is 5 in the morning!! I had to... absolutely HAD to finish this book.
I stumbled upon this book when I saw an author post her review for it on her page. I love this kind of story about the big famous stud falling in love with the girl he just stumbled across. Beauty! So I decided to try it out.

I will be honest, I had a hard time at first with how quickly everything was moving and the writing style but before I even finished the sample I was hooked to it. It was exactly the way this story needed to be written. Everyone likes a certain 'voice' when it comes to books, and maybe it is just me loving the story so much but I promise you, if you are feeling this way, just keep reading and it will grow on you. Senhaji's writing voice is unique and different from anything I have read before but it is refreshing! The story moved quickly but perfectly, the necessary points made and even though there were some things that were distracting, it didn't matter. The story was THAT good. I am the kind of reader that can adapt to a style easily as long as the plot and characters hook me. Trust me, this story and Jen and Jake and their gradual build to something incredible will be worth it. I just loved it! and I hope you do too.
I almost didn't buy it because of the price, but a good story like this that kept me up all night is worth it.
ok, to the story.
I love Jake! Love his shyness and his sweetness toward Jen.
Yes! It was extremely frustrating to read these two tip toeing around each other and not communicating AT ALL! But dear Lord it worked. It kept me hooked, I needed to at least get to the part where everything is good and things can work out, then that part came and I just couldn't stop! What an awesome story! Beautiful! Real! This is how I picture a scenario like this happening. Just trying to be friends and not knowing what the he'll is going on with the other... it was just done so well.
And when IT happens... good God Jennifer Senhaji, it took my breath away. Tastefully written and so fitting with the rest of the story but still so freaking sexy. If you are looking for a book with STEAM, the kind that makes you feel like you are melting, or like your kindle is on fire, READ THIS BOOK! It may take some reading to get there, but it will be worth it! Even before those sexy parts, there are plenty of moments you just want to sigh, so sweet.
Again, honesty. I started out feeling this was a 3 star based solely on the newness of the writing and not sure I would like it, but like I said, before I was even finished reading the sample, I knew this was going to be 5 stars!
Jen is sweet, kind, just the kind of girl I see someone like Jake with. She is genuine and I loved her. Jake... goodness he is swoon worthy! If you are anything like me, you start seeing him in your mind, his expressions and shyness and just all around sexiness. You picture it and you can't help but fall in love with him.
I am starting to ramble, I just really really loved this book and I really hope that whoever reads this gives it a chance and sees what a beautiful friends to lovers story this is. Real love, real friendship. There were frustrations like all love stories have, some more than others, but this was just so good.
Thank you Jennifer Senhaji, for a stunning story and I wish you the best. This is one I will not be forgetting.

** I was given an ARC of this in return for an honest review**

It is worth it, trust me.

To me this is closer to a 3.5 however I did appreciate all of the music refrences thrown in so I bumped it up to a 4.

You can obviously tell that this is a first book. The story was well thought out and believable but I found the set up to be a bit jarring. I got through it fine but it is not my favorite style of format. That being said, I truely liked the characters. I liked Jen's spunk and her taste in books and I appreciated Jacob and his shyness.

The love story itself was well done and as the reader you are sitting there wanting to bash their heads together. I loved that the sex wasn't gratuitous but flowed well with the rest of the book.

All in all it is a wonderful debut from a new voice in Romance. I would defintely recommend it to fellow romance readers.

This was a very sweet romance read. I was introduced to Jenna & Jacob (a famous movies star). I thought Jen reminded me a lot of myself. Lover of music & good hearted. I liked how through out the novel though their seemed both hesitant and unsure of where their relationship was going they built up a good friendship. The times they were apart seemed very accurate to me considering Jake is a big movie star. I especially loved the scene where they finally made things official. This is a great romance and I give it five stars.

There was so much to love about this book. This is the first time I have read anything by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. At first it took me a few pages to get used to Jennifer Sennaji's writing style. It was different, not just because it was in first person but also because it was in the present tense. It's funny that throughout the story the author referred to different music, songs and singers because the book almost read like a song to me. I adore that she put the song list in the back of the book. It reminds me of all the things i love about the tv show cold case with its awesome, haunting 80's music. I fell in love with the main character Jenna. She was so cool and sweet. I also fell in love with the movie star male lead Jake.I can honestly say I have promoted him to be one of my favorite leading men so far. He was sweet and kind and not some weird tortured, damaged person. He was just busy. I loved that. It was refreshing. The story was perfect, exactly the kind of book I want to read. It was fast passed but I still felt like I got to know, not only the main characters but the secondary characters as well. I had enough back story but it wasn't the focus. The only down fall for me is that the second book in the series isn't out yet. I will happily read anything this author writes and will be waiting eagerly for its release.

I really enjoyed this sweet romance. Who doesn't have fantasies about getting together with the hot A-list actor of their dreams?

Jen and Jake were portrayed very well with self doubts and misconceptions, especially from Jenna's perspective. Honestly, I kept turning the pages, because I couldn't wait for one of them to admit their attraction. I was frustrated right along with them!

Although I gave it 4 stars, it was more like 4.5. The only thing that stopped me from giving it 5 was the slow start. It took a little reading to finally get into the story. But, once I settled in, I didn't put it down!

I recommend giving this book a try if you love a sweet contemporary. And, don't worry, there are some HOT scenes too!

I loved this book from the very first page! The main character, Jenna, is the kind of person you would want for your best friend. She is kind, clumsy, smart, and doesn’t let meeting a very sexy A-list actor affect her any differently than meeting Joe Average. Other than she is completely smitten from the moment she shares an elevator with him to wondering with great anticipation when he will next drop into her café for a coffee and muffin to finding she is slowly developing feelings for this man, not the actor, the man. Their story begins in the small town of Maple Grove and travels all the way to Italy and back. It’s fun, funny, sexy, and a story I didn’t want to see end. Looking forward to more from this clever author!

This is a sweet, gentle romance at first, but don't let that fool you. This is not a behind closed doors kind of book.

Jake and Jenna both drove me crazy, because to me (of course) it was so obvious they were in love, but they were both afraid to make that first move, for various reasons. Instead, they developed a sweet friendship that drove them both nuts, even though they refused to let it go. I kept turning pages, thinking, in the next chapter they will finally realize they care more about each other than as "just friends."

Jake is almost innocent and adorable, completely not what you would expect. Jenna is a normally confident person who is thrown off-kilter when a movie star starts hanging out at her coffee shop and eventually becomes her friend. They are both believable characters, and I so badly wanted them to get together, even as I was frustrated with them for not figuring it out chapter after chapter.

One thing I think this author did very well was show me how Jake felt, what he was thinking, even though the book was written in first person, from Jenna's viewpoint. This can be very difficult to achieve in first person, which I think is why so many books these days are written in first person with alternating points of view. I enjoyed reading this book strictly from Jenna's perspective, and I didn't feel as though I missed out on anything from not reading Jake's point of view. (Except for the outtake at the end, which is a perfect final touch to this book!)

If you are looking for a heartwarming book that is a fast, easy read, this is a good choice.

This is a brilliant slow burn to a heart, mind and body shattering climax. Meeting a famous actor – a super hot one of the opposite sex – would be a dream come true, right? But how would you really respond? I think this little story nails reality. Our heroine knows from the outset exactly where her place is – where an ordinary person fits in the world of a movie star. The way her feelings overwhelm her logic is crafted to perfection. What a ride! This is obviously a story for the ladies but it wouldn’t be hard to reverse the roles and imagine being an ordinary guy with a real chance of snagging a screen beauty. The brilliance in this story is in the hunt and the chase. And it isn’t either of our protagonists doing the hunting or chasing. No, they’re both hopeless cases… This is about how love doesn’t let up until Jen, Jake and us readers are at its mercy. Then it really gets going! Awesome read.

The thing keeping this hero and heroine apart is a lack of communication – or is her belief that he does not have feelings for her really true...? The sexual frustration of heroine Jenna is the tension here. She’s totally in lust with hot actor Jake, but worries he does not feel the same. She waits for him to make a move. And waits. And waits. Wanting to find out keeps you reading. It also made me think about how much time we sometimes waste stressing and debating with ourselves about how someone else feels about us, and how we assume stuff when we should just ask. If he does not feel the same, it’s better to know sooner than later. ‘Sweet and spicy’? It did what is said on the package, delivering great chemistry and being cosy yet exotic. A fun, bouncy, lust-filled contemporary romance with food and music references sprinkled in the mix.

I loved this book! I started it in the car. We had to go run some errands, and we live about 30 miles from town. My husband was going to be driving, and when he does, I take the opportunity to catch up on some reading. I was giggling (in a good way) before we made it to the highway!

I was surprised to find that I didn't want to put the book down. My husband dragged me to McDonald's for lunch, so while he ate fries that were way too salty, I read Sweet Dreams. And giggled, some more.

It took me awhile to finish the book. Work and kids and sleep kept getting between me and the book. When I finally got to sit down and finish it, I was really eager to finish it. I was not disappointed. It was a great little read and I'm thrilled that I got the chance to get my hands on it!

Sweet Dreams is a well-written hot, sensual, and sexy tale of love. Written in the first person, it is a point of view story of the developing love between the narrator and the handsome A-list actor Jacob Walker. Jake and the narrator, Jenna, first meet in an elevator when she is on the way to consult with her attorney. Jake tracks her down to her cafe, the Sweet Dreams Cafe, and their love percolates over $5 cups of coffee and blueberry muffins. Eventually, he shows up at closing and walks her home. Even actors can be shy, and it takes them more than a few false starts and tribulations to establish their friendship. It almost doesn't work out but-. Well, I'm not going to spoil the plot in a review. Let's just say Que dice “Hot, sexy and a great read” en l'Italiano.

Jenna is the owner of a coffee shop and while she was in an elevator, she sees actor Jacob Walker. She respects his privacy and when she leaves the elevator she tells him to "Have a beautiful Day". He is shooting a movie in the next town and comes in some mornings for coffee. Every time she sees him she has comments in her head. Not always meant to be said and sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't.

It was a good book and an easy read. I started it one evening and finished it the next. It is definitely worth reading and will make you smile. I found myself relating to Jenna because sometimes when I think something it just pops out.

I have recommended this book to friends and would recommend that you read it as well.

** I was given an ARC of this in return for an honest review**

I am not a huge fan of Contemporary Romance or first person present tense narrative. That being said, I really liked it!

I thought you got a clear sense of what Jenna was like, her personality, her taste in music and an idea of her mood. Through her eyes, you also got a fairly clear picture of Jake which runs counter to how most would view a movie star.

Their romance is sweet and about halfway through I was going 'By all that is right in this world. Just kiss already.' Jennifer really knows how to draw out the tension.

But there is definitely good stuff at the end. Definitely worth reading!

OMG! I can't believe how much I love this story! Jen and Jake meet and their relationship seems to move at a snail's pace while misunderstandings, false assumptions, jealousy, self criticism, insecurity and regret piles up between them forming a barrier to their hearts desire. As chapters flew past, I was growing more frustrated because I wanted them to get together. Perseverance certainly pays off! When it finally happens.....IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD and all the garbage between them produces the most exciting, fast paced race to fulfillment that I have ever read. Love it! Wish I could give it double the stars! FIVE STARS!

A great read that I enjoyed thoroughly. It is breathtaking and intriguing. It will keep you interested until the very end. She owns a coffee shop and bakery and he's a big time actor. She's doesn't want to put herself out there and he thinks she's not into him. Will they be able to talk to each other? Will they be able to close the gab between them?

~~~~~~~~~~Julie G's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
I received this book in exchange for ah honest review and boy it was a good one!
Jenna is a independent owner of a coffee shop where Jake, a movie star, makes frequent stops. There is quite an attraction between the two. But is that attraction enough to bring them together. He is in and out of her life quite a bit. Sweet sweet love story that I would definitely had to my personal shelf of books.
I am excited to see the other books written by this author. She captured the characters in this book perfectly.
~~~~~~~~~~Lillian's ★★★★✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~

Jenna runs her own café Sweet Dreams, she loves having her own business and doing what she wants but that is all about to change. She meets Jacob(Jake) Walker, he is a sexy hot actor and in town filming a new film. He starts coming into the café for coffee every morning. Jen looks forward to seeing him but it is their secret as the press would have a field day. Jen is falling for Jake but he seems to be only interested in being friends. But that ends when Jake leaves without saying goodbye. Jen is heart broken as she doesn't know what she did wrong. She needs to move on from Jake as he is all she thinks about. But Jake has come back into her life and they start talking all the time and then it stops. Jen has had enough she goes to Italy to enjoy herself and to leave Jake behind. But Jake has other ides he almost runs her off the road but why is he here? Can Jen open herself up again and be hurt all over?

What does Jake want from her? She is in love with him but she can't tell him as he has been hiding a secret. Jen is heart broken again so she runs back home. She can't trust anything that Jake says. Jake tries to call her and speak to her but she can't do this anymore. She tells him that he can't call anymore.

Jen makes some changes to her life and is happy but Jake is always in the back of her mind. He is back and he can destroy her for good. Can she let him in or will it end badly again.

Jake wanted to be with Jen from the beginning but he got the wrong message and he left her and never explained. Can he win her back or will it be too late?

I loved the story line as it was a story of friendship that became something more. Jen is a great character smart & snarky. Jake is a sex god but he hurts her really badly but it good to see him work for her. I loved that we got to read why Jake left without saying goodbye. I could almost smell the sea in Italy. Just a great read for any age that will keep you reading all day. I received a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review

When Jenna shares an elevator with gorgeous actor Jacob Walker, little does she know that it's only the start... Day after day, Jacob comes into Jen's coffee shop and the two soon become tentative friends. However, geography and numerous misunderstandings drive a wedge between them, resulting in the pair drifting apart. Months later, they meet unexpectedly on holiday in Italy, rekindling their friendship, which soon become something more, however, the path of true love never runs smooth! Sweet Dreams is a beautifully romantic story by Jennifer Senhaji, perfect for anyone who's a romantic at heart.

This book was a really enjoyable read with great characters; Jenna was snarky and down to earth, if a little accident prone, with a great taste in music – you’ve got to love a book with its’ own soundtrack! As for Jake, he wasn’t your typical alpha male, which was a nice change of pace and I liked the fact that the pair got to know each other as friends instead of falling instantly in love, though the attraction was definitely there from the beginning. The only thing I found with Sweet Dreams was that, though Jacob was supposed to be an A-list actor, it didn’t play as big a part as I would have expected, except at the end with the tabloids, and at times I found myself almost forgetting that he was supposed to be famous. Also, I would have liked a few chapter from his point of view, especially after the token chapter at the end! Jennifer Senhaji writes this story really well, though very simply, and it’s a great read to escape reality with for a few hours!

Reviewing for Books Reviews Blogs & Amazon Links.

Sweet Dreams is the first book in the Sunset Dreams series.

First let start off with the writing style, Jennifer Senhaji has a unique style but it hooks you in. I’m so glad I got to review this book because I can honestly say that I loved it. This wasn’t one of those reads where everything happens within the first few chapters, it’s a slow one but it’s so worth it. It’s told in the first person which some people may find annoying but I find it works for this book because you get to find out more about Jenna on a deeper level then you would most heroine’s. The story follows Jenna, who owns a café called Sweet Dreams and one day she meets Jake Walker in an elevator (which you would find out from the blurb). The book isn’t one of those insta love books, you can actually see the characters develop feelings for each other and that is refreshing. I won’t say too much because honestly, I think you’ll want to buy this book just from the blurb.
But alas, if you need any more persuading, READ THIS BOOK, seriously.

What if the world's sexiest movie star was starting a romance - no, a friendship - no, a romance - with you, and nobody knew about it?

That's the premise for Sweet Dreams, and there's much to like about this charming debut novel. Jenna is easy to like, and movie star Jake is even easier to fall in love with. However, the pace at the beginning is glacial, and those who read most contemporary romances will be wondering when or even if there will be some action.

Once the romance DOES start, it's toe-curlingly hot. The many music references may either charm or annoy you (we get it, she's got eclectic tastes). I am also not a big fan of this type of novel written in first person, but it works okay. The Happy Ever After is VERY satisfying, because the characters have been so richly drawn and they were definitely people I cared abut by the end of the story. Look for more good stories to come from this author!

Steam Factor: 4 out of 5.

Synopsis: Sweet Dreams, the debut novel by Jennifer Senhaji, was a fun but steamy read. I wish I read this poolside with a sweating drink in my hand. The main characters, Jen and Jake, form an unlikely friendship through months of him visiting her coffee shop every morning. Jake just happens to be a very hot and famous action movie star. After his movie stops filming, Jen tries her best to move on and forget about Jake, but she can't shake him from her thoughts and he wiggles back into her life over and over again.

With the usual misunderstanding and miscommunication that keep people apart, Jake and Jen fight their feelings for each other until one very steamy and memorable "F*ck it" moment.

HEA all around.

God, I love it when guys whisper "f*ck" under their breath.

I was kindly given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading this book. Its is the debut novel from this author. Even though it's her first book, the story is well written and well thought out.

You get to meet Jen, the owner of sweet dreams coffee shop and Jacob Webster, a hot sexy blockbuster movie maker actor. Sparks fly from their very first meeting by chance and after an over the shoulder have a nice day from Jen, Jake is hooked. While working nearby, Jake visits the café and a unlikely friendship develops between him and Jen.

Jennifer Senhaji leaves the readers wanting more with a will they wont they finally get it together page turner. I will be definitely reading more of her work

What girl wouldn't fantasise just a little about the hot movie star who keeps stumbling into her life? And, for Jenna, why stop at fantasising when she has actual contact - visits and phone calls and a real friendship with Jake?

Set between Jenna's idyllic small town home of Maple Grove and a sunny, lemon-scented, Italy, this is the story of Jake and Jenna's path to love. It's a fun roller-coaster ride of miscommunication and missed opportunities that will have a reader turning page after page to discover if they reach their happily ever after, and it is only book one of their story. Please note: Happily, even though it is only book one of a series,there is no cliff-hanger.

I enjoyed this book although it took me some time to get into the writers style. The author has a beautiful way of setting up her story world. Her descriptions especially of Italy and the countryside were beautiful. I did find myself asking why the story took so long to progress in the middle but this may have been become i could see what the ending would be early on. I really enjoyed the ending. I would definitely read more books by this author.

Firstly I loved the quotes and the music references

How could anyone not fall for someone as hot as Jake, Going from friends to Jenna developing feelings for him she demonstrated her fears of them not being reciprocated very well,

I loved when they serendipitously met again and finally got together and they really got together phew!! only for a (big) misunderstanding to tear them apart, I also loved the will they won't they as much as i love an happy ending,

I just couldn't put this book down it was definitely a page turner and look forward to the other books in the series

I really enjoyed this book! At first I was a bit skeptical because of the actor and plain Jane meets type story line but it had ups and downs with a good plot that kept me interested. I also enjoyed the musical references. I would also be like Jenna in the "yeah you're cute but could care less if you're famous " cause I hardly even watch TV anymore much less look at tabloids. All in all a good read and am going to look for #2 in the series so I can find out what happens. Kudos, Jennifer!

The chemistry between Jen and Jake was amazing. I felt them from the first moment they laid eyes on each other. They obviously belong together even though they seem to be from different worlds. My issues with this story was a slow pace and I wanted to see more interaction between Jen and her friends and coworkers. That said, when Jen and Jake finally kiss... WHOA! It rocked and got a tad hot around here!

If you're looking for a sweet and spicy read...this is it!
