Jennifer runs to hide from ugly truths, but Reid discovers her secrets and brings her home to face them. Janet throws away her good girl image in order to steal her cat back, but she loses her heart to a conman in the process. Grant lives for speed, but Carrie knows she has to slow him down to keep him safe. Still, she's endangering her own heart while she fixes his.
These are basically the same stories about the lives and loves of the wealthy, powerful Carrington family that are found in Destiny Bay Romances- Forever Yours, but with the conflicts softened a bit, the language cleaned up, and no explicit love scenes. There are still a few adult situations, but they're muted. Consider these the PG versions.
(Excerpt Book 1) It was already long after dark. The beach was deserted, the waves inky black in the silver light. "Look, a full moon," Jennifer noted, wrapping her shawl around her. The night air was cool and stimulating, and they took off their shoes to feel the sand between their toes. "A full moon is for madness, you know," she told Reid as they walked along. She reached out and hooked an arm through his, and they bumped companionably as they went toward the sea. "You don't need a full moon as an excuse," he teased her. "You're full of madness all the time." She laughed, feeling suddenly free and happy and close to him. "But it's especially made for old stick-in-the-muds like you," she told him. "It's your night to be a little mad." She tugged on his arm, laughing up into his face. "Come on, Reid. Be a little mad tonight." He never could resist her smile. "All right, Jennifer," he replied, his gaze devouring her face, "what sort of madness do you suggest?" Ah, if she only dared tell him! "Let's race," she challenged. "Down to the pier and back. The winner gets ... a kiss," she said wildly, dropping his arm. "You're on," he replied, to her surprise. "You have to give me a head start," she cried, racing off, her bare feet digging into the sand. "Why?" he called from behind her. "You always start off with an advantage over me, Jennifer Thornton." He came thundering up behind, easily outdistancing her. When they reached the pier they both collapsed in the sand, laughing. "I said 'and back,' you know," she chided him. "We'll do the 'and back' later, when we've got our second wind." # # Helen Conrad is an award-winning, bestselling author of more than 90 romances (over 15 million copies sold) published under various pseudonyms with Harlequin, Silhouette, Loveswept, and others. She is currently revamping and rewriting much of her backlist--some available in the US for the first time--to present on Kindle.
"The Destiny Bay Romances take place in the sort of beach town I've always loved--and now I live in one! But writing about beach towns came first and this series is centered on the rich, influential Carrington family living along the California Coast, and in Hawaii. These are good-looking, fast-driving, hard-hitting men and women whose impulses lead them into trouble every time--and inevitably to fall in love. The original series includes language and love scenes that aren't especially harsh and explicit--but some of my readers from my years writing sweets for Harlequin as Raye Morgan have asked if we couldn't have sweet and clean versions--and I thought--what a good idea! These books are the same stories, but rewritten to avoid certain situations. I hope you enjoy them!"
Helen Conrad was born on April 11, 1945 in Pasadena, California, U.S.A. and grew up between Holland, Guam, and California, and spent a few years in Washington, D.C. as well. She obtained a B.A. in English Literature.
Helen was working toward a Master's in Library Science when she dropped out to have her first son. "One look into those baby blue eyes and I knew it was going to be a long time before I went back to school. But with young ones, you do have time to read, and the more I read, the more I learned about writing". She started writing because she felt guilty about spending so much time reading. "Through writing I figured I could still immerse myself in the stories I love, but I could actually claim I was working! The amazing thing was when I sold my first book and the excuse was justified. Dreams really do come true!"
After years of writing romantic suspense in the style of Mary Stewart and children's books in a lot of styles, she finally sold a romance to Jove's Second Chance at Love and there was celebration all around-at least in her ever-patient family of husband and four boys. She published four more romances for Jove under the name Jena Hunt, then began writing Silhouette Desires. A few sales to Bantam Loveswept and Harlequin Romance, Temptationand SuperRomance under the name Helen Conrad followed, as well as to Harpers, Dell Ecstasy, Mills & Boon, and even an historical with Zebra. Today, she is concentrating on Silhouette Romance, completely captivated by the breezy fun and touching poignancy of their compact, to-the-point form. She feels the perfect "quick read" should make the reader smile, sigh and put the book down feeling better about the state of love in the world.
Now, she lives in the Los Angeles area now with Nick, her geologist-computers cientist husband and the two of her four sons who still live at home."Having the boys around helps keep me up on the current trends," she says with a laugh. "But writing helps keep me in touch with the romance that weaves through the everyday lives we all live."
Got 3/4 of the way through the 1st book then gave up. The hero is a bully. The heroine keeps accepting his criticism and bullying because she's "loved" him since she was a little girl. She keeps apologizing for being herself... urgh!!! She keeps accepting his bullying. How is this a romance?
.0 out of 5 stars Carringtons are quite a family. March 19, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition | Verified Purchase All these books are keepers. Wonderfully written, very likable characters, realistic storylines, and very entertaining. My favorite was Shane's Girl. I loved Tyler, wish I had one like him. I can honestly recommend these to anyone that likes sweet, compassionate heroes and heroines. Some were a bit hotter than the others but all would be rated MILD.
Overall I like all three books. The characters were believable . The story had the right touch of romance. It was not too steamy , and it wasn't too boring. I recommend this series .
The Carrington's stories are interesting and a good investment into the characters. Very story worthy so I became addicted enough not to want to put the book away. Looking forward to reading more of upcoming continuing adventures.
Although the books were entertaining, I was a bit troubled with how the Carrington brothers all were bossy and terrible at communication. All three books would have been much shorter and probably easier to read if the characters just told each other what was on their mind. A Little Blackmail was my favorite of the three books, and I loved the secondary characters in it, also the plot was hilariously unlikely.
I had already read the first book many months ago so reading it a second time was a bit of a reminder to what had happened. I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. The second book with Matt and Janet had a ton of funny moments and I kind of knew how things were going to work out but it didn't take away from the excitement throughout the story. Grant and Carrie didn't have too many funny moments during the third book but there was a ton of seriousness that only made their time together that much better. I knew that it would be an HEA but how he would make that final decision wasn't something I could figure out. Of course, when I read about it, it made sense. I will have to read the rest of the series asap and see how things work out. I'm hoping that Tag is a part of it!!
Wonderful books, full of drama, comedy, anguish, and wonderful characters. The stories are well formatted, and the characters are complex and intriguing, with the author pursuing their foibles, and giving explanation to what makes them tick. Three books about three brothers, and the women they meet and fall in love with. Each one is a standalone, that have characters overlapping from the other Destiny Bay stories. True love stories that will leave you with a smile on your face.
This is the 1st set of books I read by Helen Conrad. My favorite in this set of books is book 3. Book 3 had a good storyline, likable main characters, & the right chemistry between the characters. Book 1 had an okay storyline but it had no chemistry & I didn't like Reid. I didn't like Book 2 storyline I thought i was wrong & I for Janet helping I didn't like her either. This was an okay set to read since it was free.
In the first story, the male is overbearing and snobbish. The female comes across as strong, but spoils it by trying to mold herself into the country club type of woman he wants her to be. Don't know who I wanted to slap more, him or her. Second story was a little better, but his lies went on a little too long. Third story was the best, but secondary characters were more interesting than the main ones.
I love family. no matter what you do you still have family. I always wanted to raise my children near my family but I fell in love with a military man. we moved every three years and not always within the U.S.. I missed them. these books are great showing that no matter what you still want your families support and approval.
Destiny Bay Romances, The Sweet Editions~Box Set, Books 1-3 by Helen Conrad. I enjoyed reading these three stories. Some took longer than others to read. Some of the storyline was a little far-fetched. Like climbing up an downspout with an box with holes in it for a cat? Really, who does that?
I really enjoyed this set of books! There were some super sappy parts, that I didn't care for as much, but overall I really enjoyed the story line. I really loved learning about the three different brothers and the romance that blooms in each book. I would suggest it as a cute summer read to friends.
A nice read, with the occasional glimpse of humour, but overall I think the stories were a bit far-fetched. I at least could not really "get" into them. Although the problems between the couples were genuine ones, I do not think people really react the way the do in these books. The narration style, however, was good, and the characters were likeable.
I am a very avid read and will read just about anything, theses books were OK, they story lines in each were to similar and to easy to predict what was coming. Glad I got these for free not worth the money
I enjoyed the stories and how they all mingle in together in the end. I have the desire now to see how the next three chapters turn out. A good and creative story!
The first three. Looks are a great lead into the series. With the brothers finding their loves. I enjoyed each story and am looking forward to Tag's. With these three as the starting point for more mischief making. This series will be a keeper.
Three love stories and all of them great. You know their all going to end up a happy ever after, but first the brothers have to be hit over the head to figure out that in the end, love is what matters. I really enjoyed reading these stories.
It was such a treat to to read these sweet stories. Good strong storylines great character development and tasteful sex scenes. I am a going to follow ms. Conrad she's my new favorite author.
I enjoyed all three stories. I look forward to reading more from this author and more in this series. I look forward to reading more about this family.
