Declan Bennett has zero tolerance for thieves. He and his brothers, the Keepers, are fiercely protective of their witch, Sienna, and their privacy.
So when Kate Carrigan breaks into their estate, he'll be damned if he lets the little wildcat get away with it – especially after she seduced him three months ago, leaving him buck-naked in a New Orleans hotel. Declan wants payback – and some answers.
Before she was murdered, Kate's mother ingrained it in her not to trust anyone. Kate’s magical powers make her a pawn in the war between good and evil, a war she’s always avoided. Declan is everything she’s been taught to fear, even if she can’t forget the memory of his touch that one night…
Trouble is brewing as the powers of evil regroup – bolder and hungrier than ever – and Kate is forced to choose a side.
Hot romance, epic battles and action abound in Book 2 of The Keepers.
Rae is an avid reader and romance author. She lives on a farm with her husband, children, and many animals. Besides writing, she loves family time, the outdoors, travelling, reading and chocolate.
I received a copy of The Keepers: Declan (Book 2) from NetGalley; in return for an honest review.
This is possibly one of the best paranormal romances I have read for quite some time; it is quite Mills and Boon with the whole Supernatural thrown in.
This installment is the second in a series, although I did not find I needed to read the first to read the second; Rivers recaps to the previous book throughout so as not to miss anything, this I found quite useful. It is a Supernatural Romance; I like both so it suited me down to the ground. The story follows Kate a thief; witch and would be assassin, who is hell bent on revenge for her mother’s murder, putting her own safety and life on the line. Her rescue comes in the form of a hunky Keeper named Declan; one of three powerful brothers, dedicate to give their lives for their charges ‘Witches’. Declan and Kate have a past and a bit of a love hate relationship, that blooms into something more.
I really do not want to give too much away; but they have to overcome many obstacles together mainly the people determined to kill Kate. I found I loved the characters, especially Declan, although he could be a bit dense sometimes and needed a good slap. Kate was awesome and turned out to be a bit kick ass, which I like, in a female character. I loved the unexpected twist’s towards the end, really was not expecting either of those!
The story kept me gripped and I am eagerly awaiting I am guessing brother number three Ethan’s installment. I have just downloaded The Keepers: Sienna (a free prequel) from Amazon, I cannot wait to read. I would recommend The Keepers: Declan to lovers of supernatural romances who like mills and boon type novels. I would say young adults up, as it is sexy and contains some bad language. Well worth a read.
If you like your books to have magic, thrills, fights, great baddies that make you want to kill them, and goodies that have to suffer for their cause then this is the series for you. The prequel `Sienna' is free at the moment, followed by `Archer'. I was engrossed in the storyline from the beginning, and the characters are easy to hate or fall in love with. I ended up willing the heroes on even when things looked impossible. Their lows made me want to cry right along with them and I cheered when they gave in to the deep, soulful love that they fought against. The chemistry between the characters in this book was incendiary. Declan tries to play it cool even though he can't keep away or hold himself back from Kate, and when he finally accepts the truth of their relationship, after being hit over the head with it (metaphorically speaking) by Kate I wanted to shout out `hallelujah', but it was worth the wait. Poor Kate has it rough with trying to deal with her attraction to Declan and the fact that she's a wanted woman by some very unsavory characters, but she doesn't take it lying down. She's one feisty, determined lady who takes crap from no one and I loved that, but she also has a very fragile quality about her that makes Declan want to protect her which confuses the hell out of him. The characters are full and rich and have so much depth to them, they have been through so much that leaves them tortured, but they retain a sense of hope that you rejoice in and will them on. I can't wait for Ethan's story next, he's the quieter of the brothers but from glimpses in this book you know that there's more to him. I also want to see if an old enemy may awaken oooh!
This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from the Author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Thank you to Rae for providing me with a copy of this book for review. I have to say after reading Sienna and Archers books I think Declan may be my favourite so I was very excited to read this book.
Declan reminds me of Daemon on the Vampire Diaries, hot as but with a bad boy rep. After Declan is bested by a girl he is mighty pissed and decides to track her down. When he does he’s not prepared for the girl he finds.
Kate has spent her whole life hiding. Her mum was so scared for her daughter’s safety she kept her hidden from the supernatural world. After her mum dies Kate finds a letter with instructions to keep her safe. This is how she meets the Bennett brothers.
From the moment these two meet there’s fireworks. The connection between these two is so strong that nothing would have kept them apart, and believe me a lot tries. From an evil warlock to almost dying these two fight their fair share of obstacles.
It’s not all about the romance though. The fate of the world is hanging in the balance and it’s Sienna, Kate and the Keepers job to save it. Rae finds a way to make everything in this story important. The romance, the action, even the down to the tiniest of details Rae ensures every word on that page means something.
As soon as I finished this book I went on to Ethan’s book (review to also come shortly). I can’t wait to see what else Rae produces.
The Keepers: Declan is the third book in the Keepers series or the second if you're not counting the prequel, so hopefully I won't give anything away about the prequel and the first book, The Keepers: Sienna and The Keepers: Archer.
It is safe to say I loved The Keepers: Declan! Rae really packed a punch with this one! We get introduced to another fiesty female, Kate which is what I love about this series as the women in them can really hold their own!
If you have read the first two books you will know about Sienna's Keepers, but to those that haven't Sienna is a powerful witch that is protected by three brothers who are called her Keepers. They are three very handsome men sworn to protect her and in the first book in the series (not the prequel) we get Archer's point of view, then in this one we get Declan's and then the last in the series (which I now cannot wait for) which is Ethan's.
Although I liked Declan, for me he just wasn't Archer, so at the moment Declan is my second favorite out of the brothers. He is more broody and really likes his whisky!
The Keeprs: Declan had the right amount of balance for everything. Action, love, steamy scenes, friendship, bravery. There is never a dull moment and you won't want to stop reading. There are some brilliant twists in this as well. I am now eagerly anticipating the final book in the series, The Keepers: Ethan.
Another fantastically action packed, steamy adventure from Rae, bring on Ethan!

FINALLY! I have read both the prequel, Sienna, and the first book, Archer, in The Keeper series and by far Declan is the best book. I could not get interested in the first two books, however Declan swept me away! I absolutely loved it!
Declan is action packed and there is so much mystery surrounding Declan and Kate’s story. No matter how hard they try, they cannot catch a break. The evil warlock, Harper, which is after Kate for her rare powers is determined to capture her at all costs. However, there is a major twist close to the end of the book that took my breath away. I never saw it coming!
I love that Kate is an independent and strong character. I enjoy female characters that can handle business on their own but allow others to help when necessary. Declan is a headstrong, sexy Keeper. Together they make a great team although they are both too stubborn to admit it.
While the first two books disappointed me because I was very excited about reading this series, Declan has completely restored my excitement! I cannot wait until Ethan is released. I will definitely be reading it.
After reading the previous novels in this series, I was eagerly awaiting this one - and thrilled beyond belief when I was granted an advanced reader copy.
Just as in the other stories, this one was well-written, engaging and full of action, chemistry and page turning events. Not only are the characters impossible not to like, but they are so completely believable that its hard to remember that this is in fact a paranormal novel, and that these things don't exist in the real world.
Rae Rivers has a gift with words that allows you to not only be completely drawn into the world she has created, but to also be able to see the story in your mind as it unfolds.
This book will definitely appeal to not only fans of paranormal romances, but regular romances as well. I can't wait for the next installment so I can continue on with this amazing journey.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
This is the first book I have read from this series (apparently bypassing The Keepers: Sienna and The Keepers: Archer!). Nevertheless, although the second book in the series (excluding the prequel), I didnt feel as though I had missed anything by diving in at the point I have.
So, the story starts with action. No hanging around, no build up, straight to it. And … I really enjoyed it. Both the main characters are feisty and kick ass, but have obvious chemistry. The storyline doesnt play second fiddle to the relationships either, each integral to the other, and the characters’ attributes are all clearly defined and relevant.
The fierce attraction between Kate and Declan is dynamic and consuming and the story is well written.
The conclusion has a couple of unexpected twists and its fair to say that I am looking forward to the next instalment.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The battle between good and evil continues. Dark magic against light magic. The tension and suspense are gripping.
Declan is one of the Bennett bothers and he is a Keeper. He is broody and only have casual relationships, but this is all about to change.
Kate is running away from her destiny. Her life is in danger, but she doesn't know what. From a young age, she has been taught not to trust anyone.
Declan and Kate have met before. Declan was left in an awkward position, but now that he has found her again, he intends to find out the reason why Kate acted the way she did. And throttling her is the first thing that comes to mind, until he discovers that his enemy is her enemy too. He is carrying the baggages of what happened in the previous book and doesn't think that he has anything left to give to anyone. Can Kate change the way he feels?
This is fast paced and action packed. There are a few twists and turns along the way. The battles are lengthy and brutal. The romance is intense and tentative at the same time. A worthy follow on to the previous book.
I really enjoyed Archer, but I LOVED Declan. Emotionally fraught and action-packed, yet the banter sparkles and there are moments of real humor. Excellent read!
Kate's mother raised her daughter to be independent and she taught her not to trust anyone. Kate has unique magical abilities and therefore she could be useful to a lot of people and they don't always have good intentions. When someone murders her mother Kate is on her own. Her mother told her about important artifacts and Kate tries to steal them. After a night with Declan she is the new owner of his key. She breaks into his home, but robbing him and his brothers doesn't go according to plan.
Kate is being hunted. Declan wants back what's rightfully his and his enemies want Kate because of her powers. Kate would rather remain on her own, but because of the precarious position she's in she does need help. Even though she stole from Declan he's nice to her. Their night together might have meant more than just a way to get closer to her goals. Declan is a keeper and his purpose in life is to protect Sienna, his witch, with everything he has to give, but that doesn't mean there's no room for Kate in his world. Will Kate eventually have enough faith in him to make the right choice, so she won't be another victim of a battle between good and evil?
The Keepers: Declan is a fast-paced adrenaline rush. Declan has to protect his witch, he has to run a business together with his brothers and he has to chase Kate and make her trust him enough to accept his help. That isn't an easy task. He's kind, strong and gifted. He fights for what he believes in every single day. Kate becomes part of the war against those who want to use their magic for total control, wether she wants it or not. She has a lot of raw power, but she isn't a trained witch. Kate hasn't reached her full potential and needs help to control herself. She's strong, independent and fierce, but she has no idea where her strengths and weaknesses lie. She doesn't want to be part of Declan's world, but she doesn't have much of a choice. They do have a lot of chemistry and he's incredibly patient with her, which was wonderful to see. There's hardly time for breaks, but between the battles something beautiful has the chance to blossom.
Rae Rivers writes about war, power and magic, but her stories are also about true love and family. Her main characters fight for their happiness and for what is right. Their enemies play dirty games and Declan and his brothers and witch need to keep up with known and unknown enemies, which is quite a difficult task. I couldn't wait to find out if they would succeed or not. The story ends with a fantastic battle that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really like this series and think The Keepers: Declan is another great story about an amazing magical family.
I would like to thank author Rae Rivers for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I first met the Bennett Brothers, Archer, Declan and Ethan way back in December, when I ordered the free prequel to Archer, Sienna. I loved it that much that I devoured both Sienna and The Keepers Archer, reviews attached.
I have been eagerly awaiting The Keepers – Declan for months as I said in my previous review, you don’t just have 1 hot male but 3, although Ethan and Archer aren’t in this much they are still there.
Rae begins the story after the completion of The Keepers – Archer, although you can read all of these as standalone books I would recommend reading the first 2 as these give you a lot of background information.
We meet Kate as she is about to break into the Bennett estate using Declan’s master key, she stole from him month previously. Kate has a through mistrust of the magical world having been told by her mum not to trust them, not really understand what powers she has, she is left a letter after her mothers death that seems to indicate she needs the Bennett daggers to protect herself from magic, this is why is trying to break into their house.
I like Kate, she is vulnerable, yet strong, naïve but wise, a really nice mix of a character. She captures Declans heart and he captures hers but neither of them see this till well into the book. Out of all the brothers, Declan was always my favourite, how can you not love a hot bad boy, he's absolutely gorgeous, even when the bad boy isn’t really that bad. We get to see a caring side of Declan that we only see glimpses of in the other books
The story twists and weaves, I didn’t know which way Rae was going to take it, I was spellbound and couldn't put it down untill I had finished. I love the way Rae throws things in when you are least expecting it making the story take turns that you don’t see coming. Again there are witches and warlocks, along with more Keepers, not just the 3 main hot ones.
I would really recommend this series of books and I am eagerly awaiting The Keepers – Ethan, Rae you can expect me asking weekly when this will be out. Although I can’t wait for the next installment I will be really sad to see this series end.
The second book in, ‘The Keepers Trilogy focuses on Declan. He’s the wild brother who sought solace from his grief in bourbon and women. Kate was one of the women but she turned the tables on him, leaving him unrequited and with more questions than answers. When they meet again, he has the upper hand and the sizzling chemistry between them threatens to explode. Kate steps out of her comfort zone to follow the instructions given her by her dead mother. Meeting Declan again is unexpected but not entirely unwelcome but she hides her feelings, driven by the need to stay save from the wicked paranormals that ruthlessly pursue her. Kate adds an interesting dimension to the Keepers and their elemental witch Sienna; her powers are different and untried by potentially threatening to the natural balance. Pursued by an evil warlock and his deranged but loyal warriors, she slowly realises her importance and isolation. Declan pursues her to ensure she isn't turned to the dark side but unfinished business between make the quest more pleasure then duty, even though he denies it to his brothers and himself. This is darker than the previous books, and full of twists that mask the real danger that faces Kate, Sienna and the Keepers. Kate is strong, opinionated and courageous. She grows into her powers as the story progresses and is a worthy adversary/lover for Declan. Declan is an anti-hero and we all love those, but he is shows his true worth as he pursues and fights at Kate’s side as the story progresses. This is a fast paced, classy paranormal tale, which makes me eagerly anticipate the final chapter in the trilogy, The Keepers; Ethan. Rae Rivers
This book was given to be in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited when Rae offered me the third book in her series as I've read the first two and loved them.
Once again, I couldn't put her Keepers book down.
The first two-thirds of this book weren't as suspenseful as the first two, but I liked the angle she took. The romance between Kate and Declan drew me. They are fascinating characters with their own mixture of baggage and there is a lot pitched against them. Yet, despite them both being strong personalities with sometimes conflicting goals, the romance is tender and deep, and very hot! Don't worry though, there is plenty of suspense and action just around the corner.
The twists and turns that the author took me on made her third book in the series yet another roller-coaster ride of emotions, suspense, fear, curiosity, hope, love. She always surprises me and takes the story down a path I didn't expect. You have this sense of impending doom - that something sinister is brewing, but also the feeling of hope, that in the end good will triumph over evil.
She weaves together all the aspects of this supernatural world in such a masterful way without making the characters seem unreal and non-relatible. You really feel like you understand what it's like to be one of them.
I really was upset when the book ended and I can't wait until the next in the series. I don't know how I'll feel when the whole series is over!
If you’ve read my previous reviews of The Keepers: Sienna and The Keepers: Archer, you’ll know I am more than a little in love with this series. I waited very (im)patiently to get my hands on Declan and the book is everything I wanted it to be and more.
Archer finished on an incredibly intriguing note and the second book dives you straight back into the action, centering on Declan and newcomer Kate. Seeing as the pair already have a history, their chemistry is present almost immediately and I lapped it up! It seemed like I could actually feel their reactions to each other as I read and I found myself (not so silently) willing them both to drop their guards in order to see what was right in front of their faces. The story is pretty action-packed and some of the twists come out of nowhere and really surprise you – honestly, one twist actually had me talking out loud to myself in disbelief – as magic and mayhem rule the characters’ lives.
If paranormal romance, or even just romance, is your thing then The Keepers series is sure to float your boat. The prequel is free so you can have a little taster first but I can pretty much guarantee you won’t stop there and will be banging on Rae Rivers’ door for Ethan’s story. You’ll have to stand in line behind me though :)

I must admit I was already a little in love with Declan before he got this own story. Now I'm totally in love!
Keeper Declan is the bad-boy of the Keepers. Haunted by the past and now seduced and bested by Kate Carrigan, he wants some answers as well as retrieving what belongs to him.
Kate isn't looking for a repeat performance with Declan, no matter how often he sneaks into her thoughts. Though sneaking is her only option to get what she wants. When Declan goes chasing after her they both make a startling discovery that pushes them both together. Kate discovers the darkness of the magical world runs deeper than she'd ever imagined and life as she knows it changes dramatically. The problem is Kate has a hidden power of her own. One that is desired by others. One that can put Declan, the Keepers and their witch Sienna at risk.
I loved the witty dialogue between Declan and Kate. And with Declan having the fire element too you are guaranteed plenty of heat between these two. The story is clever and surprising, with lots of unexpected twists, which makes me impatient for Ethan's story. Oh and for my favourite scene in the book, (no spoilers, but you'll know it when you get there!) I applaud you Rae Rivers!
This book was by far the best so far. It had romance, mystery & suspense. I liked all the plot twists that kept me guessing who was good & bad. Declan & Kate's story was much more believable to me & not quite as cheesy as Archer & Sienna. I'm looking for wars to Ethan's story.
I also enjoyed reading about Declan, the "bad boy". Looking forward to what Rae Rivers has to offer when it comes to Ethan! I'm rather enjoying this series.
