Live for Me

The solace she sought…

In and out of foster care her whole life, Tiffany Ennis has never had space or privacy, so housesitting a mansion on the coast of Maine with only the absentee rich owner’s dog for company is pure bliss. But her peace is shattered when the injured owner returns to his compound unexpectedly. Tiffany finds him to be sexy and intriguing, showing an interest in her that must be mocking, given that everyone’s always told her she’s plain, nothing special.

Becomes an affair she never expected…

Devin Gold, known in the music industry as Gold Daddy, is usually in New York City attending drop parties and having men and women alike throw themselves at him, and Tiffany wishes he’d stayed there. There’s no reason for a top producer to hole up in Maine in the dead of winter, and every time she turns around he’s asking her prying questions. She finds herself starting to enjoy their intellectual conversations and clever sparring matches, and in a hot minute she’s falling for him. Even knowing that he’s a decade older, filthy rich, and could only want her for his momentary amusement.

Yet even when he hosts beautiful and confident guests from the city, he still seems to prefer her company, and is protective when odd things start happening around the house, threatening her safety. But how far is Tiffany willing to go with a man who is still very much married, estranged wife or not, just to feel special?

And all the lines between past and present and right and wrong are blurred…

3.5 stars!

Oh yes McCarthy definitely knows how to get me interested in and excited about her characters. Live for Me was a nice little read. It wasn't perfect but it was a good time as Devlin finds himself rather taken by his ballsy yet innocent house sitter and unable to walk away from a temptation he knows he really should resist.

The quick of it is that Tiffany is in need of a place to stay. And Devin is in need of a house sitter for the mansion he rarely stays at but can't seem to let go. Serendipity! (and woot! I've always wanted to use that in a review! I just love the word serendipity). Anywhos. Of course the two end up spending a spot of time together and having oh so inappropriate thoughts about each other--thank goodness-- and their employee/employer relationship takes a bit of a twist.

Devin and Tiffany were really great for each other. They might not look it on paper--seeing he's a millionaire celebrity who has had a picture perfect easy life and she's been kicked from foster home to foster home and has little to call her own. Throw in an 11 year age difference and yeah these two wouldn't seem to fit. But...they do. And I really adored both of them and their time together.

They were really what the other needed. He desperately needed someone to take him down a peg. That was upfront, honest and not afraid to stand up to him. And Tiffany needed someone to provide her security. To help her see her value, how strong she was and that could give her the freedom she's so lacked all her life. I loved seeing them battle against their desires and the situation they were in. Wanting the other so badly but having to overcome all of the barriers--their different lifestyles, their age, their own versions of being jaded and knee jerk reactions they had to things. There were some intense scenes but they were balanced out nicely with ones that had me busting out laughing. It rocked some truly sweet moments and was oh so filled with all kinds of excellent tension too which is always nice.

There were some things that didn't work for me though. I was pretty on board--solid 4 star-- until about the 3/4ths mark when there were some awkward scenes/relationship jumps that just didn't feel right and took me out of the story quite a bit. Sudden personality switches in just a matter of moments, the intensity of the relationship jumping from the beginning stages to way serious commitment, some plot devices that just didn't flow or fit quite right. It had me scratching my head a bit and pulling up in a 'whoa there, huh?' kinda way. I think a lot of it could have been soothed with a few more chapters here and there so it didn't feel quite so abrupt.

So, I enjoyed Live for Me and loved the storyline, the characters and their unique situation--I seriously loved that decade plus age difference and what it brought-- but it wasn't my knock down favorite from McCarthy. A nice quick diversion and entertaining but left me wanting a bit more from it.

A very poor retelling of Jane Eyre.

Best Bit: The idea. The actual set up was so promising: A girl who'd spent her life in and out of foster homes, mistreated and unloved, scores a job as a house sitter in a secluded mansion in Maine. The owner, Mr Gold, is a NY city music producer/millionaire. He's barely ever there, and she spends her days alone in his mansion, looking after it, and enjoying the peace. He comes back one night and, after being surrounded by the beautiful elite, finds her conversation refreshing.

Worst bit: The heroine, who is meant to be intelligent, mature but nervous, talks like a 15 year old, and it really grated on me. Who says YOLO when talking to their 30 year old boss for the first time? Who SAYS Yolo at all? It took me a bit to realise she meant "you only live once"... Anyway... she swore a lot (even in her thoughts), masturbated by chapter two, and quoted TMZ. Seriously.

Funniest bit: None.

Most interesting character: The shower with 6 shower heads. Truly.

Most complex villain: It was as probably meant to be his ex wife...but I never got far enough to confirm this.

Recommendation: Not at all. There are MUCH better YA romances out there. And if you're a Jane Eyre fan... stick to the original because this is a very poor attempt at a modern retelling.

Female pov

Main characters: Tiffany and Devin
Minor characters: Kadence (Devin's ex wife)

This book was ok, just like the last one. I wasn't skipping through it but I didn't love it. It was trying hard to be deeper and more emotional, but it just wasn't. The hesitation I thought I would get from Tiffany wasn't there. For someone who claimed detachment as much as she did she fell into Devin quickly. I didn't get Devin either. He didn't want the Hollywood lifestyle but he never made it seem otherwise. He also jumped into marriage with Tiffany quickly. It didn't seem like they talked enough to want to even know each other.

Synopsis:
Tiffany lives with her sick grandma. Her grandma hates her and treats her bad. One day she kicks her out. Tiffany gets a job being a house sitter for a mansion.

Devin is a music producer who owns the house. He hasn't spent much time there in the past so Tiffany is surprised each time he shows up.

He is drawn to her because she's so different from all the Hollywood people he knows. He flirts with her, but when things get intense he makes rude comments to remind them both about her age. (She's 18, he's 30)

She finds out about his ex wife and his ex girlfriend, who don't get along. A package arrives at his house while he's away. It has pictures of him and different women, and one of her waking his dog. They say things like "manwhore" and cheater on them. She shows them to him and he says they're nothing.

He teaches her to drive and on Christmas he gives her a jeep. They start to fool around and she tells him she's a virgin. He hesitates and leaves the room, which makes her feel defensive and insecure. She gets a call saying her grandma is in the hospital and he drops her off.

She tells him thank you for everything and he begs her to keep in touch with him. She says she will but she doesn't.

Her grandmother passes and after 5 days she calls him and asks him to pick her up. He does but he's cold towards her. He has company at his house for New Years and he makes her stay and mingle. Some guests are mean to her and some are nice. One girl starts asking about his ex and she finds out he's not divorced yet. She feels terrible and inadequate so she flees to her room. He follows and they reconcile. He asks her to marry him and they spend the night together. She gives him her virginity.

They wake up to find out one of the girls has overdosed and an he rushes to take her to the hospital. He arranges for everyone to be flown to New York. He asks her to wait at his apartment for him.

When she gets there she meets his almost ex wife Kadence. They hit it off and spend the evening drinking together. Kadence is really nice to her and tells her she only wants good things for Devin.

When Devin gets home and he finds out Tiffany spent the evening with Kadence he gets upset. He tells her Kadence is crazy and manipulating her. She gets upset and decides she doesn't belong with him until his divorce is final. She leaves him.

She goes back home and gets her life in order. She reconnects with her long lost father, who was told by her grandmother that she died as a child. She meets her fathers family. She enrolls in school.

When she moves the last of her things out of her grandmothers house she sees a fire across the bay, where Devins house is. They haven't spoken in 6 months. She texts him to see if he's ok and if there's something going on at his house. He's short with her so she gets concerned.

She gets to the mansion and sees its on fire. She sees Devin being worked on by paramedics. He's ok but tells her he was shot by his ex wife Kadence and that the divorce was finalized. They reconcile and get married.

Excellent Read! Worth every moment of my time. Highly entertaining, well-written and all around great love story. I fell in love with Tiffany & knew that it was only a matter of time before Devin did also. The drama added just the right amount of spice to keep this book tasty and wonderful. Can't wait to read other works by this Author.

Tiffany Ennis has never had space or privacy, but after issues with her Grandmother she managed to find a job house sitting for a rich absent owner, who only came once in a blue moo.
But the peace and quite she had been looking forward to is shattered the night the owner returns Tiffany finds him sexy not at all what she thought he would be, and he is showing interest in her, and she does not know what to do or how to react to this.
Devin Gold, known in the music industry, normaly in New York city, and Tiffany wishes he had stayed there, there is nothing for him here in the middle of winter.
Every time she turns around he’s asking her prying questions. She finds herself starting to enjoy their intellectual conversations and clever sparring matches, and in a hot minute she’s falling for him. Even knowing that he’s a decade older, filthy rich, and could only want her for his momentary amusement.
Little by little her feelings for him grow as do his, but will they survive what is to come, will they make it. Read the book its a lovely story, with depth and emotion.

This was better than the first book. Especially the first half. The two characters getting to know each other was realistic and nice. Once they got together though it went a little off the rails. The ending was super rushed and not enough time given to the .

So far in these two books the author jumps to REALLY fast.

Let me tell you, the second book in the series was a complete flip from bk 1. For me at least.

Live For Me deals with Tiffany; Caitlyn’s only foster sister that she ever really grew close to.
Like Caitlyn, Tiffany only had one relative that she could ever depend on. But unlike Caitlyn, Tiffany’s relative; her grandmother wasn’t much of a role model seeing that Tiffany had to take care of her while trying to insulate herself from all the verbal abuse hurled her way. The reason why behind the abuse is briefly explained and the consequences from that are not fully developed, I’d have loved to seen more on that.

When Tiffany finally leaves her grandmother’s house, she takes a job as a house sitter for a music producer who spends all his time in New York while leaving his Maine country house empty. The location is perfect since it’s right across the water from her grandmothers who she can keep an eye on.

But it’s not long before Tiffany and Devin meet for the first time. And when they do, the spark is instantaneous. But Devin holds out because Tiffany is only 18 and he is 30, which is kind of a remarkable story line I think with the older man/younger woman struggle. But don’t forget Devin has a crazy soon to be ex-wife on his hands that adds to the conflict in this book, which is only really drawn out when Devin finally decides the difference between ages is just a number.

I wouldn’t exactly say I fell in love with this book. Sure, it drew me in, and I couldn’t put it down for days on end. The sexual tension was what kept me reading though….which I love which I didn’t get as much in bk 1, although you could tell Heath and Cat were nuts for each other. The tension between Devin and Tiffany was dynamic and intense, but I think I liked it so much because of the older man/younger woman scenario. That’s just my thing.

Oh…and because of the dog.

It had its charming moments, but again like with bk 1 there wasn’t really any huge conflict until the end and even then, it wasn’t made out to be a big deal.

Devin’s wife was pretty emotionally unsteady, and I just felt that it should have been interweaved more than it was throughout the story than all at once at the end. From this point forward I would recommend reading this series.

I can’t wait to dive into Aubrey’s story, Let Me In.

I love Jane Eyre. I've read the book multiple times and watched all of the film/TV adaptations (as far as I know). I've even watched the most recent addition to the Jane Eyre adaptations "The Autobiography of Jane Eyre", vlog-style on YouTube.

So when I say that the author did a pretty good job modernising this classic, it truly is meant as a compliment.

And there isn't much to fault this book on. The heroine has that basic Jane essence and the chemistry with the hero is almost tangible. I would have liked more... playfulness (for want of a better word) between the two, instead of channeling it all into the bedroom. I feel it would have allowed the reader (and Tiffany) to get to know Devin more as a person. Then you wouldn't have this extra complication with the ex but not ex-wife.

And I'll confess that I found this completely unnecessary. (Note: This is a big spoiler, so you've been warned!)

In terms of the writing/dialogue, I do find that Erin McCarthy's use of swear words is excessive. And unnecessary. Which is why I haven't read many of her books. (I persisted with this one mostly because it was a Jane Eyre adaptation.)

Last criticism, the ending was way too rushed. It made the reconciliation feel forced and unnatural.

Overall, an interesting read.

I read this book in one sitting, I couldn't put it down, it was that good... Live for Me is the second book of the Blurred Lines series by Erin McCarthy and as much as I loved the first book, You Make Me, I think the second book is my favorite so far. Tiffany Ennis is as good of a person as you'll ever meet, her life has been nothing but a series of foster homes, some good and some bad, and disappointments from the people she should have been able to trust above all others. But despite all that, Tiffany is a delightful mix of innocence and worldly knowledge. After her grandma kicks her out into the streets, she finds a job house sitting a mini mansion for a rich old man music producer who only visits the house a few times a year, which is heaven to a very downtrodden Tiffany. On her first night on the job she meets the rich old man who unexpectedly comes to visit and she finds that Devin Gold is not old at all and he's also very attractive. Despite their age difference and the completely opposite lifestyles they've lead thus far, feelings deepen as they get to known each other. I felt like this story was emotionally deeper then the previous one in the fact that both characters have gone through situations where they learned that trust was something earned not just given, the struggle to open themselves up to each other was very real and tugged at the heart stings. Tiffany is trying to figure herself out when she meets Devin and her struggle to find herself and not be sucked up into the powerful personality that is Devin made the story that much more real and emotional, at times I was frustrated with the autocratic way Devin acted but overall it was impossible not to love both characters. Live for Me is another fantastic read by Erin McCarthy, you definitely won't be disappointed when you read this book, or any other book she has written.

LIVE FOR ME is Book 2 in Erin McCarthy’s “Blurred Lines” series in which she re-imagines classic romances for a modern setting. LIVE FOR ME is a re-envisioned Jane Eyre. I don’t feel like it’s necessary to have read the previous book in this series to enjoy LIVE FOR ME.

I was a little skeptical at first, just because Jane Eyre is one of my all-time favorite love stories. I figure – “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I don’t feel like the author bastardized a classic. I feel like it was just inspired by, but it doesn’t try to be a carbon copy of a beloved classic just in a modern setting. Gone are some of the gothic elements from the classic. There is no crazy wife hidden in the attic. There is a crazy ex sending creepy dolls and generally acting psycho. The essential things that made Jane Eyre great are still there. Tiffany is a young woman who was lacking in natural family affection and many creature comforts but, like Jane Eyre, she has a spine of steel and self-respect. Devin Gold – music producer extraordinaire – may be no Mr. Rochester, but he is a man with a troubled past, finding sanctuary and peace with an intelligent, strong women he respects.

There are some sweet, poignant moments, some super sexy moments, and some hugely cheesy intimate moments that make for an interesting story with two complex main characters. As with any Erin McCarthy book, the dialogue is great and makes for a good window into the characters.
If you get this book looking for a word-for-word copy of Jane Eyre, you will be disappointed. However, if you go into reading this book with an open mind, you will be pleasantly surprised how strangely familiar these characters and these themes seem.

I look forward to more books in this series as well as more from this author.

I absolutely loved this book!
Tiffany is a young woman who has experienced way more than anyone her age should have to. She is a diamond in the ruff just trying to find a way to be alone and live for herself instead of everyone else
Devin is a man in the industry used to dealing with the glitter and glam. He wants someone who is real, someone to care about him for him and not for what he can give them.
Together they bring something new to the scene. They tell a sexy tale about two people who are equally strong in their own way trying to find love.
Tiffany is slightely tarnished just waiting for someone to show her a lttle bit of love and give her a place to belong. Devin is the older man who wants to show her that she can belong with him.
This book did not ignore the age difference between the two of them and it did not hide it behind pretty words. You were able to see that this relationship would have its issues just like any real relationship out there. I felt for them, I cried for them , I laughed with them, I connected with them.
Erin did it again! She created a book that some how surpassed the first book in the series and that is hard thing to do seeing as how i loved that book as well!

Actual Rating: 3.5

Point of View: Single (Tiffany Ennis)
Writing: First Person | Past Tense
Setting: Maine/New York
First Line: “Get out,” my grandmother said, wheezing as she reached for her glass of water.

I liked this one better comparing to the first installment as the storyline was a little more unpredictable and different. However, the characters were not my favorites. Back in book one, we got a few scenes with Tiffany in them, and I was intrigued by her. I guess in general, her character was nice and I liked that she wasn't too crazy over Devin. Still she was a bit stiff. As for Devin, he was a very sketchy character. I didn't like him much because sometimes he was sweet, while at times he behaved like a completely different man.

The pace was nice. It didn't take long for me to finish reading this book. Near the end of the story, though, things moved a tad too fast, so it seemed like something was missing.

What I esp loved in this book is the absence of cardboard-cut-outs as characters. The heroine is strong, self-aware person, who has suffered through adverse conditions all her life, and yet emerged a dignified, non-whiny, strong person with a personality and purpose in life. She knows her mind, isn't judgemental about others, and I think that all appealed a lot to me. She's intelligent, and smart, and appreciates what good she gets, but doesn't cling to the bad. The relation between the hero-heroine isn't pathetic either. Nobody's giving control of their life to another. I liked Devan too. Not shallow. Also, another thing that I liked about the story is presence of people like Sapphire and Jay. Showbiz isn't shown completely evil just cause that'd fit into the stereotype. Oh, and the h/h have a super-sparky attraction, but they know how to keep it in their pants! How rare is that!
And last but definitely not the least, that cover! That super-sexy cover!

This book had some ups and downs. It was good, considering.

After leaving off in the last book with Cat and Heath, this one picks up with Cat's best friend and once foster sister, Tiffany.
Tiffany has had a rough life and is living with her uncaring and unkind grandmother, whom she takes care of.
When she is kicked out of that home, she finds a job as caretaker in a gorgeous mini mansion. Believing that she will be spending her days happily alone, she is surprised when the owner, music producer, Devin Gold comes home during her first night there.
Instantly there is an attraction there, though she is young and doesn't think she is worthy of a relationship with someone like him.
What follows is a strange courtship that moves so slowly until it moves extremely fast, which is the reason for my only three star rating.
It was a sweet story, but some parts are just too much, too soon.

I loved the story. Areas I would of liked to see expanded was the last 10% of the book. It had the right elements to complete the story but since New York, nothing, and then everything went super fast. I did not even get the tears swiped off my face.. I read that last 10% and kept saying, what/where!??! God help me with these strong unbroken girls!!!!

This was okay. I didn’t really get why Tiffany and G Daddy (ugh) would’ve really connected in the first place, and the ending was very neat and tidy. Why would Tiffany want to be with a guy who is friends with a bunch of fake-ass posers anyway? She literally seems to settle for the first guy she comes across who shows interest! Did not do it for me.

Wow Devin and Tiffany, there story didn't drag on. It was out in the open from the beginning. Age was a factor in the beginning but in the end it worked out. There are some surprises but true love always win.

3.5* A well built story with a bit of depth. I really liked the feminine character, her being so much wiser than her age shines through the writing and I really loved that she took all the hardship and build on it instead of allowing it to drag her down.

This was my first book by Erin and it wasn’t as good as I was hoping it to be. I like to try new authors and read different writing styles and plots and I thought the synopsis for this book was intriguing and a book that I would love but I didn’t.

I thought the characters rushed into everything they did. And found Tiffany and Devin to be kinda bland and lacking. Where I thought there could have been fun banter between them both it went serious, like the author was trying to make it emotional but it wasn’t. It got annoying. Although I did feel for Tiffany and what she went through I just left like she could have relaxed a bit and take a joke.

The ending was a bit weird as well just bam they were back together and married.... like okay? Do you even know anything about each other because I sure as hell don’t. Unless I missed it in my glazed over reading I couldn’t even tell you what colour hair or eyes Tiffany had.

Anyway, no love from me for this book. The book had potential but it wasn’t that great form my point of view.

I enjoyed this story of Tiffany and Devin. She has had a rough life in the foster care system and is finally getting to get on with living her life her way. She takes a job working as a house sitter for Devin a PR rep in the music industry. Tiffany has all the reasons to be negative and see the worst in people but she chooses to be positive and forgiving. She sees the best in people and situations and that is what keeps her going at times. The chemistry between her and Devin starts out slow but after spending an extended time together through the holidays it really heats up. The story was well written and the characters likeable this book though primarily about Tiffany and Devin it does include characters from the first book in the series. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The pretence was good but it felt awkward. Hard to look past the age difference sometimes when she’s described as a boyish shaped young looking kid basically.. and his description didn’t sound overly flattering. The marriage proposal also came out of nowhere as did the break they took. It felt like things were thrown in there without being fully explained or resolved (like the ex wife drama). It was just meh for me

Devin is a man that at times has no problem voicing his opinions, “no, of course not. I just want people to stop kissing my ***. Stop lying to me.” Tiffany had some balls on her, and I liked it, “no, it wasn’t. It was meant to put me in my place. I already know my place. You don’t need to remind me of it.” My whole life had been about people making sure I knew that I wasn’t good enough, that I was inferior. Defective. “Don’t patronize me,” I said, my voice shaking just a little with anger." I loved this book, these characters just make their way into your hearts.

Awesome

Tiffany’s story was awesome. The rough start she had in life to where she is now was crazy. These books are great.
