What I loved about this book was how long it was, but never once put too many new or complicated words anywhere in the story. There's so much to this - lots and lots of text, good pictures, and a ton of action.
The things I didn't like was the dangling plot (what happens to the mother cat?) and the somewhat disjointed tale. I do like how assumptions are challenged across the board, and there's even some room for good discussion here in regards to how we treat our pets and how to show compassion toward animals.
Overall, I don't know why we don't have longer books like this for beginning readers anymore. I don't think of this length is daunting in the least and I would have loved this book back when I was learning how to read.
