On the eve of destruction, four demons awaken…

There was once a time where demons and Grim Reapers lived with humans. They kept their identity a secret from most and tried to keep balance between their two worlds. Everything was going well and both sides were able to live in peace. Hiding from the human world was Tartarus Sanctum, a place where Apprentices to the Grim Reaper could live and learn their craft of reaping souls. In addition, four Apprentices were chosen to keep balance in the Upper World and the Underworld. This year, the responsibility had fallen on four young Yuka, Tessa, Kaska, and Avani. They were known as Guardians of the Underworld and were expected to follow through with their responsibilities.

But the girls were not ready to take on big responsibilities or prepare themselves for the future. At the moment, all they want to have as normal of a life as possible. Not everyone else felt that way so they chose to run from Tartarus Sanctum. It was when they ran away that the whole world came apart. In one night, the other Apprentices were murdered and their home was destroyed. Now demons and humans are against each other. There is a war on the rise. Both worlds are collapsing and hope lies with the new Guardians. They are awake. They are ready. But they have a long way to go before they can save the world.

Awakened: The Reaper’s Apprentice Book 1 was a solid book. Four young ladies learn they are demons. Not just demons but the next guardians. But they are young, teenagers, and have no desire to take on the responsibility. The girl’s want to be young and do as young girls do fighting against their chosen path at every turn. It isn’t until tragedy strikes that they buck up and accept the challenge.
I really enjoyed the story. The characters were carved and developed into believable souls. And the world created was believable. There was a part that was a little confusing towards the end but I can’t say. The story held my interest and made me curious and anxious to start book 2.
I listened to the audio version narrated by C.J. McAllister. He did a great job narrating and even changing his voice per character.

Awakened

An intriguing world full of demons and humans but not the demons we would think of there's a group of demons tasked with protecting humans and the balance with the world. That's one of the things I loved about this book, the take on demons, like with humans there's both good and bad.
I got a little lost in the story with the switching of the names and characters. I couldn't really connect with any of the characters either.
It was also just a little too slow paced for me to get into.
There's a lot of things that I would've loved explained better but I am curious what happened in the end.

This was an enjoyable and interesting read, the first in a new series. The book has an interesting premise and shows promise, it seems aimed at young adults it grabbed my attention, and kept me interested to the end. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book tells us of a time that the human world had Demons and Grim Reapers in it but they stayed well hidden. In the human world was hidden a place called Tartarus Sanctum where the Grim reapers apprentices could learn their task. There are also 4 demons that were chosen as apprentices to help keep balance: Yuka, Tessa, Kaska, and Avani. The problem is that they were young and they wanted to live their life normally and not have so much responsibility. So they decided to run away and as a result all heck breaks lose. That lead to a war between humans and demons and the only thing that can save the Upper world and the Underworld are the guardians. Who are far from ready to do their job.

I did find the characters to be a bit aloof and as a result had an issue connecting with them. I can see how the book is very interesting and can help to show young people that they can learn responsibility for things as well as have a purpose in life. I will be interested in seeing the next books.

This is a good start to a series. Aimed at young adults, the style is very simplistic, yet the story is not. Demons inhabit the earth, hidden as humans and living among them. They are quiet, keep to themselves, and are there to reap souls to take them to the underworld. Humans on the other hand, become the monster and are portrayed as so.
We start out with a tragic scene, of powerful demons mourning the loss of their safe haven then shoot to months earlier with four girls who go into training to learn the rules and control their powers. It is an interesting premise and over a good read, appropriate for all ages.

This was a very good read. It was different then most books I read but kept my interest till the end. Now I need to read more about these characters to see where their journey goes. I would defiantly recommend this book for a good read.
