This was an okay Adult Contemporary romance story, but there were parts that I really didn’t like.

Hallie was an okay character, although I hated the way she called her bits her ‘lady parts’ I just don’t like that. Likewise, I hated the way Ryan talked about his penis like it was a separate person. ‘I’m trying to calm him down.’ Ugh.

The storyline in this was quite boring to me, and I spent most of the book just wanting it to end. I did feel sorry for Hallie when the big event occurred, but to be honest I personally wasn’t all that upset.

I really didn’t like the way Ryan talked about sex in this book, and I didn’t like the sex scene. For me, I much preferred Sean, who actually seemed to love Hallie, rather than just wanting to have sex with her in public places.

The ending to this was fairly happy, I might read the sequel if I get it for free, but I won’t be rushing to read it.

Between the Pain was kind of an emotional read for me. I was happy, then sad and then happy again. I even shaded a tear or two, but I really enjoyed it. I was definitely sucked into the story right from the beginning. At first I was a little upset thinking this might end up being a love triangle, which I’m not a fan of but so everyone know it really isn’t.

 photo beforethepain_zps4bd1a14f.jpg

Hallie’s Dawson love life has definitely been lacking, but when she starts a new nursing job in the ER, she catches the eye for two very delicious guys, Ryan a fellow nurse and Sean a therapist at the hospital. The connection between Ryan and Hallie is instant and strong. The two have a world win romance and fall for each other hard.

I’m not going to go much more into the story because I want other reader’s experiences Hallie story and journey for themselves. The story does wrap up nicely but there is a sequel to Between the Pain called After the Pain which continues Hallie story and really does complete her journey.

** DEBBIE'S 3 STAR REVIEW **

The story is told in Hallie’s POV. She is a single, 22 year-old nurse that just started working in the ER at a hospital after finishing nursing school. Hallie has some self-esteem issues and a lot has to do with being burned in relationships before.

“If watching guys from afar was an Olympic sport, I would have a gold medal.”

She meets two guys shortly after starting at the hospital.

“The games Sean and Ryan were playing at the seminar have me believing I really wouldn’t mind having a hot guy at me side. Maybe someone will realize my lady parts are in fact not broken and ready for some action.”

Hallie and Ryan have an instant attraction for one another and although she has a hard time believing Mr. Hottie wants her she decides to take a chance and pray things work out.

I loved Ryan. He told it like it was and wasn’t afraid to express exactly what he wanted and was feeling. He was sweet but also had that hot alpha thing going on too. I just wished the author would of given more time for the relationship to grow. It felt a little too rushed and I didn’t feel the connection between the two.

“Hallie, I don’t know who gave you such shitty self-esteem, but I want to punch him in the face. You have got to stop doubting me,” he says with defeated sigh and shake of his head.”

After a tragic turn in events, Hallie is forced to make some changes and learn to let go and move on. She leans a lot of her close friend Alex. I loved their relationship. He was funny but really cared for Hallie’s wellbeing. He supported Hallie but also let her know when he felt she was going down the wrong path. The banter between these two was fantastic.

The book flowed really well, although I would have loved it if Ryan and Hallie’s relationship took longer to grow it kept my attention and I plan on reading the next one to see what happens.

“Sean has come into my world for a reason, just like Ryan. These two men have altered the course of my life as I continue to discover the woman I want to be.”

4-4.5 stars!

Between the Pain is a sweet, loving story that somehow combines sexy and innocent in a way that completely works!

Hallie Dawson is somewhat unlucky in love and doesn’t really do relationships well. In fact she is more often than not, seen as one of the “guys” or stuck in the friend zone, rather than being put into the girlfriend category. On the first day of her new job, she meets gorgeous “eye candy” Ryan, who just happens to be her co-worker. She is attracted to him right away, but her low self worth causes her to doubt he could feel the same.

“All joking aside, I promise I’m not bitter and will continue to believe I’m worth being someone’s forever.”

I loved the connection between Ryan and Hallie and how he was able to help her built up her self-esteem. Their romance developed quickly once they admitted their feelings for each other, but it didn’t feel rushed like some books are. This book, to me was about second chances… second chances at trust, love, and life. Although this was a short novella, Gia Riley wrote the story in such a way that it felt like a complete novel. I look forward to reading more from her!

“You’re special to me, pretty girl and you need to know that. There is nothing wrong with easing into this. I’ll still want you just as much tomorrow as I do now, if not more.”

I can't say I really liked any of the characters in this. I did prefer Sean than Ryan, and I did feel sorry for Hallie, but I just couldn't warm to either of them enough to like them, and I didn't warm to Ryan at all.

This wasn't an awful read, but it just couldn't keep my interest, and not loving any of the characters made it worse unfortunately.

4-4.5 stars -- Let me start by saying that this novella gutted me. I actually felt pain. I laughed, I cried, I felt. I did think the connection Hallie and Ryan shared felt a bit rushed, but at the same time I couldn't help, but cheer their love on. I look forward to more from this author!

Books pull MANY, many, emotions from their readers. And many of those emotions, at least for me, are hard to describe. Especially when you're so consumed by the beauty of the writing that you didn't realize what you were feeling until it's over.

5+1 emotion-filled STARS!!!

This is one of those books - it pulled every emotion and feeling. It was a short read - but there is SO MUCH packed into this book! It's one of those book that will stay with you forever! I like to read and then marinate in the book for a few days. But this book has book has been on my mind since I put it down! This was a 'book #1' so I will be one of the many readers stalking author Gia Riley!! This book has sexy lust, soul-searing love, brutally honest friendship. And more!

"A chance meeting has become one of the most meaningful moments in my life... I'd like to believe that we would have found a way to each other anyway, but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason."

Without giving any spoilers... Here we go!

Hallie is sassy, an over-analyzer, she's a perfectionist, and this combination makes her seem... quirky. She is everything most of our heroines are not - but in a good way. A refreshing way! She wants what all women wants and won't settle for anything less. The ultimate "cheesy love quest."

"I want to be kissed in the rain, get lost on the subway in a big city, or meet a sexy stranger and make passionate love like we are the last two people on Earth."

She's just finished nursing school and as she starts her new job in the emergency room she has no idea that it will change her life - forever. I loved her over thinking, her easy banter with her bestie Alex! I loved her. And let me just say that Alex is hilarious and is one of the best BFF characters I've read!

When Ryan and Sean enter the picture I went from liking the book to loving the book. At first, I thought Sean had some creeper tendencies. But as I really go to know him - I quickly found him to be a really good guy. Just laid back and compassionate but not a pushover. He's a guy that any girl would fall head over heels for. And Ryan... he's not afraid to go after Hallie. He calls Hallie out on the way he makes her feel. He's one of the sweetest characters ever! He's always doing things for Hallie when she doesn't expect them. Major brownie points for him!

I have to admit that when I read that there were 2 men with affections for Hallie, I couldn't wait for the tug-o-war to begin. I couldn't wait for the battle I was sure would ensue. But that didn't happen. And I wasn't disappointed. Instead I found myself smiling that 2 people could find each other and love so deeply, so strongly, so fast. I was amazed by the insta-love that I wasn't upset about. I've said that many times in my reviews.... 'it was too inst-love'. But this between Hallie and (no spoilers) guy 1 was so emotional for me. In their time together in the book, their honest banter, their connection, the sexual tension evoked every emotion I have and some I didn't. It was sweet and passionate - ALWAYS.

"You have inched your way into every part of my life, consuming me completely. My heart is yours, pretty girl. You just have to take it."

When tragedy strikes - and it strikes like lightning, crashing around everyone - I couldn't catch my breath from crying so hard. Yep that's right. The ugly cry. And it wasn't so much what happened, it was, but it was more how the author wrote so poetically to make us feel... everything. Made me feel every word from Hallie, guy 2, Alex, and the rest of the amazing secondary cast. I felt her guilt, her every emotion as if it happened to me. And the way she honors that first relationship - ohmigod!! So heart-wrenching and brave. It was nothing short of beautiful.

"I will forever be locked in my memories, but they won't control me. They will only bring me joy, because somewhere between the pain, I'm finding happiness again."

I'm a huge fan of this author! I will read anything she writes. She re-writes the phone book - it's on my TBR pile. Gia Riley has become one of my favorite authors. She took amazing characters and let them develop and evolve into some of the best ever! I cannot wait for book #2 and cannot wait to see what Hallie and guy #2 have in store for us!!

Orginal Blog Post: Blog Tour, eARC Review, Excerpt & #Giveaway: The Reflection Series by Gia Riley

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

Two stories about love winning no matter what the odds - Between the Pain and After the Pain are Gia Riley's story of Hallie Dawson and her journey towards the love of her life.

All her life, Hallie has been friendzoned. Boys have always seen her as their girl best friend and she's never known differently. So imagine her shock when, on her first job, two of the hottest men she's ever seen are vying for her attention, and not in a friendly way either. She's enjoying their interest but still doesn't understand why they see her like that.

One finds his way into her heart, and the time she spends with Ryan changes her life, forever. Not ever has she felt so loved and cherished. But can she convince herself that she's as special as he seems to think she is?

Then one event, one choice, turns everything awry and it's all Hallie can do to get herself back to normal. Whether she likes it or not, Sean is there to support her. But why now? Why hadn't he said anything before? His sudden change of approach causes Hallie to again question what it is about her that seems to attract these men!

That atypical girl-next-door quality that Hallie exudes is what, I think, makes her attractive to everyone. Ryan and Sean fall in love with her, yes, but her workmates also want to protect her, as do her friends. There's just that something about her that makes her adorable and lovable, and not in a sickly sweet way. She's simply that person who, if someone would tell you got into a fight, you'd ask what the other person had done.

Somehow, though, it seems to me more of Sean's story than even Hallie's. While Ryan does have a pivotal role, it's Sean that calls all the shots. What he sacrifices for Hallie is staggering, to say the least. This is what a love interest looks like to me.

While there is a definite underpinning of sadness in the Reflection Series, Gia Riley has managed to infuse a sense of happiness in it at the same time. Hallie looks for healing and is, thankfully, a female who is strong enough to make the start herself. It's not easy, like nothing in real life is, but the risks are always worth it.

Wow did I love this book!! The last few days have been a whirlwind of chaos at my house - home improvement projects, kids not feeling well, homework, activities, etc. I picked up a book the other day and had to put it down several times and frankly, it pissed me off because all I wanted to do was read it! Well - last night I had some free time and picked it up and read it the whole way through without taking a break.

I think this may have been the most eloquently written book I have read and, although it was a novella, I got completely sucked in right away. Usually I'm not a fan of novellas because I don't feel there is enough time for character development and to really connect with the story - but this one proved me wrong. I had so many emotions while reading it - laughter, frustration, happiness, giddiness, swooning, love, anger, sadness....the list goes on. This is about a woman named Hallie who just finished nursing school and has started the job of her dreams and two men that come into her life and affect her in a very profound way - Ryan and Sean. She has always been put into the friend zone by the men in her life, and has pretty much given up her dream of being married and having kids in the next two years. I relate to her in so many ways and I think a lot of us can. Her inner monologue was quirky and had me laughing so many times - and she was slightly awkward which made her even more relatable because that is exactly how I am. She has a tendency to over think and over analyze everything and always convinces herself that things aren't possible.

During the course of this book, she learned and grew so much and was given the gift of learning to live in the moment by one of these amazing men. I can't say much without giving the story away but I will say that this is a book you NEED to read! The author is so talented and I would never have known this was her debut novel if I hadn't looked her up before I read it. She just released the second book, 'After the Pain' this week and I am diving in this morning!! This is an author that I will click anything she writes from here on out.

This is a book that will make you re-evaluate the way you are living your life. Live in the moment - Be Happy - Embrace the small things!

I LOVE finding new authors. It’s the best. We all have our favorites that we know we’ll love every word they write. But finding that author with her debut novel or maybe even a few books out, and instantly you just feel it? That was me with Gia Riley today. She requested that we read her novella, Between the Pain. I wasn’t sure what to expect because for me, a novella needs to be a follow-up to another series. There’s just not enough time usually to become connected to the characters. In the wise old words of my friend Cassie Graham, “She proved your ass wrong!” Man, did she. I don’t love novellas. I never really get into them, but I just felt something with this one when Gia emailed us. I couldn’t wait to start it. I had no idea what I was walking into though. It went above and beyond what I expected.

The synopsis is perfect and tells you what you need to know, so here’s that.

It’s devastatingly heartbreaking. It’s beautifully written. The characters are real and believable, along with the storyline. Gia grips you and doesn’t let go for that small amount of time it takes to read this one. She makes it so easy to become emotionally invested in these characters and Hallie’s life specifically. Within the pages of this book, you'll feel love, sorrow, anger, and joy. She reaches out to all of your emotions, and handles each one perfectly.

I was chatting with a friend the other day about books and she said that the couple in a book she had read recently didn’t have insta-love, it was more like insta-connection. That’s exactly how I would describe Hallie and Ryan in Between the Pain. I was worried that it would feel too rushed but it wasn’t. Was it fast? Absolutely. But it didn’t matter because I felt how much they cared for one another. There’s a different part of the book that I feel like I should address but I sort of can’t. When you read it, you’ll know why.

Overall, I’m addicted to Gia Riley. Addicted. Her writing is so eloquent and so easy to read. Her characters are real and have the most beautiful, romantic love stories. I can’t wait to see what’s to come, and can’t suggest this book enough.

Wow! I would like to acknowledge that Gia Riley has officially made it to my new author watch list. Between the Pain was a sweet story, one filled with emotion, love, loss, and life. This novella introduces us to Hallie, a young woman embarking on her life, who has graduated from college and is starting to work as a nurse. She is excited and nervous about what life has in store for her. As with any new job, she meets new people, two of which include the sexy RN Ryan and the flirtatious social worker Sean. When Ryan begins to pursue Hallie, it is a whirlwind romance, full of stolen kisses, sweet dates, and excitement for what could be. Yet as the relationship begins to deepen, it is all cut short tragically, leaving Hallie heartbroken. As she attempts to move on and pick up the pieces, she is surrounded by her family and friends, who come and carry her when she needs it most. One of these important people is Sean, who has wanted to be with Hallie all along.
This story started off fast paced and kept me going till the end. Hallie and Ryan’s relationship was sweet with a healthy dose of sexy! Their interactions were deep and they were connected in way that seemed impossible after such a short time. I was curious what would happen seeing as how they were perfect for each other. When tragedy struck I was not at all prepared. Apparently I had been reading too many bad boy stories because I was expecting things to go one way and I was assaulted by a completely different plot twist. I was devastated.
Hallie was such a great character. I loved seeing her personality and learning more about who she was and what she wanted out of life. I feel like this book was a perfect portrayal of her first stepping stone to true adulthood, one that unfortunately would leave scars on her heart and a deeper maturity than you would expect from a 22 year old. She was carefree and full of life, choosing to fall hard and deep for a man who saw her as worthy. It was such a sweet story and I loved watching how her view of self deepened, allowing her to see her true worth and beauty.
This novella sets the stage for an incredible tale in After the Pain. I am excited to dive in!

I like her, maybe because we share the same profession and love for Twix, but I definitely didn’t day dream on my first day of work, which could be extremely dangerous because we work with lives. But she did well for a first timer, not to mention on her first day, she encountered Ryan Andrews – the charming, hot nurse who has a lot of talent beyond saving lives. But it’s not only Ryan who wanted her, there’s Sean as well. She started without having a lovelife, and now, she has two vying for her attention. Yay!

But what I was waiting for was for the PAIN to come – I know, I know, it’s a bit pessimistic of me. But everything seemed perfect, and she was happy. What could burst her bubble? I thought I was ready for the pain to come – but when it did…

It was excruciating, and Hallie was a mess. I didn’t see it coming, and I wonder how would she go on with this. I think this is where I got ambivalent with the novel. I thought it was quite a fast recovery she had there. I think she should have waited a bit, took her time to heal rather than make impulsive decisions. She had been in pain, suffering in grief, and had lost someone. It could all be rebound…

The person, who got my attention in this novel except for Hallie, was her friend Alex, who had stayed with her during the happy and tough times. He was loyal and protective, and Hallie was lucky to have him around.

This was a short, fast-paced novel that I managed to finished in one sitting. Between the Pain will teach you to cherish life, because it can be lost in just a blink of an eye. To tell someone about what you feel because you’ll never know if you’ll ever see them again.

Absolutely Stunning Debut!

*5 Stars*

I love discovering new authors! I found Gia Riley while she was doing a takeover on Facebook one night and I won a copy of this book (which also happens to be her debut). When I finally had a chance to sit down and read it, I pretty much devoured it! This novella is about a girl and two guys. May sound familiar but the story is not. I was totally blown away by this quick read.

Fresh out of nursing school, Hallie begins her new job as an RN in the ER of Regional Hospital, not knowing that this job is about to change her life forever. On her first day, she meets the gorgeous Ryan who works in the Cardiac Unit. About a week later she receives an email from her boss telling her she had been selected to attend a Seminar that Friday. This seminar leads her to meet Sean. Ryan and Sean both have their eyes set on Hallie.

I was waiting for some big battle to happen between the guys over Hallie. I was kind of surprised to read on and see that the story wasn’t going to go that way, but I liked where the story was going. Then out of nowhere, Gia thoroughly gutted me! I didn’t not know what I was going to do with myself. I was so torn apart. I was completely blindsided by what happened. In no way was I expecting it. Two words. UGLY CRY! I almost didn’t want to keep reading but of course I did. I loved everything about this story! Even the cliffhanger ending! I cannot wait for the next book!!

This book is a definite must read! Gia did and fabulous job!! It’s really amazing what she accomplished in such a short book. I immediately fell in love with all of the characters. The story captured my attention from page one and I did not want to put it down. At one point, I felt like things were moving a little too fast, but I had to remember that this is a novella. The writing and dialogue were excellent. I laughed, cried, and was just emotionally spent by the end. My only complaint was that this was not a novel. I did not want this book to end! I recommend!!!

This story is about a woman named Hallie who meets Ryan through work in the Emergency Room. They fall in love with each other, but it is not meant to last. Hallie has to learn to cope with her emotions through tough and unimaginable breaks in her reality. Her best friend Alex helps Hallie through the pain so that she can continue to live a normal life even though her world has been torn and thrown upside down. She even allows herself the capability of loving again.

At first, this story started out a little predictable with girl meets boy in a normal setting and an instant attraction is present. What I didn't plan on was the plot twist and man, was it a plot twist. This author had my emotions on edge for most of the read. I sympathized with the characters, felt pain and happiness, as well as the loss that the author wanted to convey to her readers. Alex's character was my favorite. His character is strong and consistent; the author really defines his personality in such an inspiring way that it really drew me in. I also found that the author's descriptiveness and intuitiveness, regarding Hallie's feelings of Ryan after the loss, is highly noteworthy. This is so spot-on that I really found it difficult to hold back the tears because it was so well written and precise.

After analyzing the author's work, I feel that this would be best for a female audience. Since this story does start off with Hallie attempting to find true love and steadiness, she not only finds it and loses it, but she also starts again. I really appreciate the concepts portrayed in this story, because not everyone lives a peaceful life in a steady and consistent world. There are ups and downs, happiness and pain that must be taken into consideration. These rising issues reflect our strength, ability to carry on, and our openness toward trusting one another. I give this story five stars because it really resonated a heartfelt, true, raw and emotional depth that I feel the reader can't help but fall into and walk the journey with Hallie until the end.

This is going to be the hardest review to write without giving anything away! Oh this book is nothing like I thought it would be! From the very beginning I fell in love with Hallie's quirky, constantly over-thinking personality. She is quite the treat to most of the lead women that have been gracing the pages of late. Being in her head is fun and enjoyable. Her interactions with Ryan, Sean, and her best friend Alex are engaging. I'm not putting any spoilers down here. I was excited to see if there would be some battling over her between Ryan and Sean. I fell in love with Ryan right along with her. What you made her go through broke my freaking heart. I rarely cry, but tears woman...actual tears fell down my face and I felt the heartache too. Alex, we all could only wish we had a friend like him. I knew Sean was going to play a bigger role in this story than what it showed in the beginning. I liked him and I like him now. Boy can sure step up to the plate that's for sure. I was a little miffed with him getting mad at her for calling him by Ryan's name. For someone who specializes in trauma, he sure checked out. I would think he would be more understanding, but at least he comes around. And the cliffhanger, dear lord I HAVE TO KNOW! I need to know that everything works out, I need to know what's in that letter, and I need to know he's not gonna be a flippin douchebag! You're killing me!

If you are looking for a hot hot read, this is not it. If you are looking for a love story, you've come to the right place. Gia did a beautiful job telling the story of finding the one, thinking that one will be there forever, and learning how to connect with others again when you think you have nothing to give.

Opening up is hard to do when you have been told that your are not enough, no not with words but with actions. Yes this closes you off and shakes your self esteem to the sore. I mean who would want some on that has been cast aside for some one else by the person who told you, you were their world. This was Hallie's perspective of romance. This was Hallie's reality. So closed off to the possibility she lives over thinking and over analyzing every detail of every conversation with any one male or female. Until she happens she see the man that will be her everything and show her that she is more than perfection for him or any other man~ Ryan.
The first encounter was an introduction, the second encounter was an invitation to be more, the third was more of a demand than a request that she was more than happy to accept. No one compares to Ryan, not even the possibility of anything she thought she could have with her now friend and colleague Sean.
A whirl wind romance filled with passion and new powerful feeling Hallie is in bliss until it all comes crashing down! Ever the great friend Sean is there to help her along with her bestie Alex.
This book is an emotional roller-coaster! I mean at first I was weary of her relationship with Ryan, then I was HAPPY beyond all measure! Yes I cried happy tears for Hallie and Ryan. Than I was a basket case, heart broken really. I mean I was sobbing as I was reading and my mother called me an idiot. I had to tell her " really mom this author has brought me to tears!' Simply perfection. I love to read books that really grab me into the story so that I feel every emotion pouring into the page, Gia did that for me! I can't tell you how much I can't wait to read the next Book After The Pain, and now off to read, thanks Gia!

3.5 Stars - Between the Pain is a sweet, quick read that introduces us to Hallie and her world. This story moves quickly with a lot happening in a short period of time. Hallie is a new nurse, starting her first real nursing job when she meets Ryan and Sean, both co-workers at the hospital. Soon Hallie is falling hard and fast and happily ever after is within her grasp, until life changes everything. Hallie was a fun character, full of life and ready to take on the world. She felt like a genuine new college graduate, optimistic and hopeful. Behind her compassion for her patients and her enthusiasm for her new job, Gia Riley made it clear that Hallie was carrying around some emotional baggage that prevented her from accepting love. It really made my heart go out to her.

Ryan was sweet, absolutely adorable really and I enjoyed watching Hallie grow in confidence and flourish in his presence. This story left me with barely any time to breathe. Between the Pain was one twist after another, moving this story forward swiftly. To be honest, Hallie’s story was a little rushed for my tastes. I barely knew her before her world was completely changing. She falls in love so quickly and then life knocks her down just as fast. I wanted to know more about her past, about Ryan and the other characters in this story. The storyline is definitely intriguing and I love that Gia Riley managed to generate some serious potential for character growth in the next book. Now that the tears have dried and this story is done stomping all over my heart, I’m ready to see where life will take Hallie next.

BE READY TO HAVE YOUR HEART RIPPED OUT AND TRAMPLED ON.......WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....yes that is me crying still

Hallie seemed like a great person. Eager to be in the working world , a great job , nice place to live and some good friends. She had a great relationship with her family and I was so excited with her gay best friend Alex !!!! Right on the first day at her new job she spots one fine piece of DR. man !! Ryan is super hot and obviously has a great job !! Shortly after that she ends up heading to a conference with the also super hot Sean , a therapist at the hospital. Sparks fly with Hallie and Ryan but you cannot dismiss Sean's actions. He wants Hallie as well. The book spans over a short time and seems to fly through. Maybe I was reading so fast because I was waiting for some kind of drama ?? All I know is that I must have missed some clue , I was ripped to shreds and just absolutely devastated with what happened. I truly enjoyed Ryan and Hallie's relationship. It was fun , loving and genuine. Hardly any drama and I guess that was my 1st clue to know something horrible would happen !! I was thinking more along the lines of a super hot love triangle or maybe some threesome action !! I mean this girl is one lucky chick !! 2 hot guys and a hot gay best friend !! I felt Hallie's pain and understood her depression. I was a little annoyed with Sean and Amie at times but now that I have read book 2 I can understand way more !! So even if you are so devastated you do not want to go on....keep reading and then read book 2 right away !!

I loved reading Between the Pain. It's a great read.
Most people pick out a book to read based on the book synopsis and/or reviews, for me that wasn't the case with this book. I picked this book up, only because I have the same first name as the author. I didn't read the anything about the book first. I was just hoping that it would be a good book. It was more than good, it was amazing.
Hallie starts working as an ER Nurse. She hasn't dated in a while. She meets Sean, a social worker, and Ryan, who is a nurse. Both Ryan and Sean are interested in Hallie but there isn't a love triangle. When Hallie sees Ryan outside of work, they hit it off. Ryan and Hallie have this instantly awesome relationship. They seem perfect for each other.
Of course there is a major twist in store for Ryan and Hallie's relationship. It's an emotional, tear jerking twist. You will definitely want to have tissues near by for the last 25%. I have gotten teary eyed while reading books but this id the first one that I actually had tears streaming down my face.
Gia Riley has written the characters so well that they are easy to connect with. You can;t help but feel for their pain.
Sean is there for Hallie. He wants to help her pick up the pieces but whether or not he is successful with that is yet to be seen. I am pretty sure that Sean has some sort of secret hiding in his past.
The end leaves you wanting more. I can't wait to read more of Hallie's story.

Five freaking stars!

Gia Riley, damn. Its 2:00a.m. here in So California and I had to finish the book. Not because I had to review it.. but because I couldn't put it down!

Hallie is a recently graduated nursing student. She got hired to work at the local hospital's ER. Day one she spots a hottie, was introduced to him as Hallie , RN. His name Ryan.

They work in different departments in the hospital. They bump into each other at a conference. They literally hit it off. They bump into each other one more time and *boom* they hit it off.

The story is amazing. Hallie and Ryan's story is a whirlwind romance. It teaches us that love finds us when we aren't looking. We must enjoy the ride and not be afraid to say how we feel. We may regret biting our tongues. Go with the flow. Do what feels right with who makes you comfortable.

Just because we have been burned before, doesn't mean all guys are scum. Some good ones are out there. Be patient they will find you.

Gia, had me sitting here flipping pages. Hallie is hilarious. I was laughing from the beginning. Her BFF Alex is wonderful, FYI we all need a gay bestie, just saying.

I can't wait to see where this story goes. I'm hooked and need more. What the heck is Hallie going to do next?

Before I conclude... have tissues handy. You will need them. At one point I was reading peeking through my fingers.

Gia...Congratulations on your baby...Between the Pain

Wow! What a great first book by an awesome up and coming author!! I can't wait to read more for her!

Hallie has just graduated nursing school and is ready to start her career path in the fast paced ER. A hot stranger with an equally hot backside captures her attention. Always being one of the "guys" is becoming an issue for her self esteem, but her best friend Alex is always there for her.

Ryan, the hot stranger, just happens to work in the hospital and now just happens to be going to the same conference as Hallie. As time goes on they get closer and soon they become inseparable, passion and romance, airplanes and picnics are their thing. Until one night when Ryan was walking home, that's when Hallie's life changed.
Needing her friends more than ever she relied on them for everything.

Needing her life back and wanting to move forward but not knowing how she turns to Sean, the man she met with Ryan. He is the rock she needs and he wants to be the rock for her. One night of bad decisions almost ruined that, can he get past what happened and be there for her still? Will they move forward from the pain?

Definitely a book to one click!! * be sure to have tissues handy*

This book came to me I dont know how, maybe by some miracle or maybe I entered a contest and won it, Im not sure, I just know it appear on my kindle sent by Gia herself, I think.

Thing is when I started reading it, at first it did not hooked me right away but in a matter of days it became a page turner instantly and I had to kept reading more and more to know what was going to happen. And it took me by surprise the events that went through and then the ugly cry happened.
This is such a beautiful developed story that took me by surprise and made my heart ache for Hallie, the protagonist, because she went through so much in such a short period of time, stuffs that aren't so easy to overcome on an emotionally level but she's trying to and I have faith that she will.

I believe this is Gia's debut novel and it did not disappoint. Be ready for an emotional rollercoaster!
Cant wait for next book.

I was lucky enough to win an e-book of Between the Pain and I'm so glad I didn't wait to read it.

Between the Pain is a beautiful written story of love, fate and heart break. Make sure you have the tissues because you are going to need them. Prepare to have your heart ripped out and crushed.

I instantly fell in love with the main character's Halle and the gorgeous Ryan. Two people who meet through work and feel an instant attraction to each other. But Halle had another who desires her. Will Halle follow her heart or will fate intervene and change her future forever?

Gia Riley has written a wonderful story full of emotion and makes you feel all the feelings the character's are experiencing, the good ones and the sad ones.

A well deserved 5 stars and I really cannot wait for the next book.

3.5 "pretty girl" stars

Between the Pain is a short novella so things do happen quickly. That has to be the only thing that got to me. I wish we got more. I'm definitely reading the next one, After the Pain, because I want to see what else is in store for Hallie.

Hallie is one of the guys, the girl guys can confide in but never see as 'more than a friend' and she's tired of it. She's had little experience with dating so when she sets her eyes on Ryan (and he looks back!) she can't help but feel a connection.

There are a few scenes that could possibly be a tear-jerker. With a little bit more detail I could have balled my eyes out. But you definitely see Hallie's pain dealing with everything.

All in all, it was a good read that caught my attention.

This was a fantastic writing debut. Its short, but packed quite a punch.

Hallie Dawson is so likable and relatable, I felt like she was inside my head. She's beautiful girl who, like so many girls, just sees herself as average. She has no idea how to react when she meets men that are truly interested in her. Enter Ryan. Gorgeous, charming, and won't let Hallie run away. She has to decide whether she wants to take a chance on a new love or play it safe in the "friend zone" like she always has.

I felt so close to Hallie it was like I took this journey right along with her. The thrilling highs and the scary lows felt so real. Through her experiences she teaches us that a safe life is really no life at all. To be able to do that in a novella is true talent.

Just graduating from nursing school, Hallie is starting at the regional hospital. She meets Ryan and thinks Wow he's hot! But way outta my league. Then she meets Sean when she rides with him to a conference and he is a hottie too. Over the next few days she realizes they are both after her.

But Hallie finds herself in love after only a few weeks and when tragedy strike while she's at work, she falls apart. Will she be able to pick up the pieces and go back to work where her whole world was turned upside down?

This book pulled me in from the first few pages and then BAM it hit me hard with a shock I wasn't expecting! Gia has beautifully written about love and loss and the emotional journey to finding yourself again. Looking forward to book two.

I think Hallie is my new favorite book heroine. She is such a change from the average women I read about. Hallie is smart, sassy and funny. She is a registered nurse and has begun her dream job at the hospital. She meets two great guys, Ryan and Sean and she is drawn to each one in different ways. Ryan and Hallie have great chemistry and I really was pulling for him. Everything seems to be going great until the unthinkable happens. This was such a shock for me while I was reading it. I never saw it coming. Hallie is devastated and wonders how she can go on. Sometimes true love can be found between the pain. I loved this book and all the turns that it took. I laughed and cried and could not put it down.

Review done for Hooked on Books

5 out of 5 stars

Oh my gosh, what a fantastic story! There was everything in this book; romance, tragedy, comedy, you name it. It all flowed together perfectly.

Hallie Dawson is a 22 year old nurse just starting her life. At her new job she meets the love of her life.

Ryan Andrews is the perfect guy; he is hot, charming, sexy, and super sweet. He is also a nurse at the same hospital that Hallie works at.

Their relationship blossoms quickly but before it really peaks, tragedy strikes.

This book had my emotions all over the place. Hallie is an incredible person who has suffered the unthinkable. I felt her pain and her happiness.

The author did a wonderful job with this story. It was truly touching. I cannot wait to read about Hallie in book 2.
