When Mary Green gets left by her fiancé, she feels like her life and reputation are in shambles. Her friend convinces her that heading West might be the best option for her to start a new life. When she arrives in Grass Valley to investigate some of the men who responded to her advertisement for a husband, she feels like a fish out of water. And then she meets Silas Warner, a rough around the edges mine owner who hires her to work for him until she can earn the money to get back on the road. But as with everything in Grass Valley, things are never what the seem.
This book leaves out so much detail that the story doesn't make sense. I do not care for so much detail that you are drowning in it but this is terrible. You know that the lead character is left at the alter by a real jerk who than makes up bad rumors to ruin her reputation. Than she leaves to go to this one small town. Who has several men who just happen to answer the same add for a mail order husband. The lead character just packs up and goes without telling the men she is coming. Can she take care of herself money wise ? When she gets to town she roams around with no propose all night. When did she a range to get a place to stay ? Follows two unknown women to their house to talk about fashion and let's them destroy her letters. Then decides to leave and go back to what ? Did she have a home or family to return too ? Decides to go by another name why ? And wear a wedding ring on her journey she was not married or was she ? We're and who's ring is it. Did she have a way to make a living or have money ? On and on. I could not stick it out further their are to many good books out there to waste any more time with this one. Don't waste your time. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them what happened when this one was written is a mystery to me.
I'm not sure what the 5 star reviewers were thinking since they didn't really say what they liked. This book had a pretty good plot line but was very hard to read. The language at times sounded like an english as a second language speaker and that slowed down the reading.
I specifically disagreed with the main character going back to the "hero" after the miners' wives told her that when she left he got angry and took out his anger on his employees. If a man has that kind of anger problem it is a huge red flag. She should not marry him.

Georgia Grace writes an interesting tale of a jilted bride who decides it is time to leave all the tales being spread in New York and head out west to a new life.
