Target This

Rate this book
I’m not sure what I was thinking that day.

It was a normal Thursday, nothing new or exciting had occurred in the morning.

I’d risen from bed, taken a shower and brushed my teeth. I’d then jumped on the 8:05 bus that ran a short distance between my house and the county library where I worked.

The ride took its usual 15 minutes before it left me standing fresh faced in front of a building of gothic construction that was my favorite place in the world.

After straightening my knee length skirt, I pushed open the door that led into the interior of the library.

It was at that moment that my world would change – impossibly and forever. It was a fateful movement of wood that collided with the shoulder of a man that would alter my very existence.

It wasn’t fear that I felt at that moment – more like the feeling of being watched. It was the feeling of knowing that danger lurks - the sensation of the hair standing on end at the back of your neck.

Looking back on a moment that happened so many months ago, I now realize that I should have listened to that feeling.

As I would later find out, the man standing in front of me referred to himself as Master Lucas…

…and I was his next target.

When I was little I had this book that was a collection of fairy tales and folklore (I know it's basically the same thing) But I remember reading one called Bluebeard and even then being the weird child that I was, I was always fascinated by the story. Okay, so you're probably wondering where I'm going with this. The two stories are in no way the same, but I did get that same feeling when I read Target This by Lily White, Lucas is my modern day version of Bluebeard! Well at least the version I read :) This is my second book by Lily White and I would definitely say that this my favourite!

Yes I know I do it every time I read a 5 Star book but I'm giving this one 6 Stars! I harp on about beautiful words and amazing characters and an intense alpha male, who I love. Well this is definitely that and more... But Lily White style. When reading reading a Lily White book you'll need a few things.

1. An open mind.
2. Your thinking cap.
3. A plush toy for when you go to bed. One you cuddle and the type that come with batteries.
4. and lastly: That craving for a happy ending, you might want to let that go for the duration of the book.

I don't normally do this but since I loved this book so much, I decided to go to the extreme. I even made pretty pictures and shit, Target This is a character rich story meaning the secondary characters brought something to the story they made it more enjoyable in my opinion which is why I made my own dream cast:

Shut up, my dream cast is the bomb.

Autumn Cleary, is a librarian living in a small town. She's a prude, she likes reading books that leave you with that feel good glow. She thinks erotica is a waste of time, and is embarrassed her library has a section dedicated to the genre. She maybe a prude but she's also confident, witty and she was a very likable heroine! When Dark Erotica author, Lucas Bates moves to her town and starts doing his research at her library she quite literally enraged!

Lucas Bates, is an author who writes about the darker subjects in life. He's fascinated by the workings of the mind of a serial killer, rapist and the like.

It was the calm predators that interested me the most. The kind that were silent in their crimes; that slipped in like a gentle breeze, securing the target and disappearing before anybody knew something was amiss.

When he steps into the town and into Autumn life, he literally turn her life upside down. He's determined to make her his next conquest and will do whatever he needs to do to make that a reality. Autumn's pristine life slowly starts unraveling and she finds a haven with the one man she swore she would never expose herself to.

Her walls come tumbling down and what's left is a carnal creature ready to do whatever Lucas asks.

I'm not done yet.

Anyway, as I was saying the book was awesome. If someone asked me I would called it, "A blend of gothic thriller and dark erotica" I also don't want to forget about two of my favourite secondary characters Sarah and Adam:

I feel like I should be giving everyone tips,don't do this, don't do that. Pay attention to that bit, but by doing that I'd be taking away your enjoyment. So go forth and prepare to get your mind FUCKED!

ARC kindly provided by author in return for an honest review

Now live!!! AMAZON

4.5 stars!!

description

Much like a game of chess and with characters that play a specific role, Target This is a compelling, complex, and extremely thought-provoking book. A little dark, somewhat of a mindfuck, and 100% erotic.

Those that have read a Lily White book before will know that this author has the ability to raise goosebumps and suck you in to her stories like a vortex. Compared to her other books, I’d say that Target This is far more erotic than dark, yet it is written with dark intentions. As for the plot I felt like I was navigating through a labyrinth while reading and there are a number of plot twists, even up to the very end of the story. The beginning of the book is a bit slow, but it’s completely necessary as it sets up the foundation for the events later in the book, plus I just viewed it as foreplay ;)

Character descriptions:

description

Normally I just do the main characters but because the secondary characters are just as important I’ve included them as well. I want to stress here that even though Lucas and Autumn are the MCs, they are not a couple.

Autumn: a prim and proper spinster librarian who boxes up her emotions well. Her shy, innocent and naïve perspective on sex and erotica catches Lucas’s attention and she pretty much undergoes a sexual awakening after she’s involved with him. To be honest, I loved her hardcore attitude in the beginning of the story and as I saw her defenses wear down later I got a bit disheartened. Then again, I’ve never been in her position before and Lucas is kinda hard to resist…

Lucas: a famous but reclusive and eccentric erotica writer and someone Autumn hates immediately on sight. He targets her as his muse for his current book and as a series of unfortunate events happen that draws Autumn closer and closer to him, his actions constantly border between fiction and reality – I spent a lot of the book debating on whether I should hump his leg or hide in a corner…

Sarah: Lucas’s beautiful assistant and a Domme. I seriously underestimated her role in this book.

Adam/Detective Marx: a dark, broody, and pensive detective who steps in to address the multiple mystery cases that pertain to Autumn and Lucas. He unwittingly gets caught up in Master Lucas’s game.

I think it’s important to know that when going into a Lily White book, you should be open-minded and abandon all happy thoughts and any hope that this will be a conventional romance story because more often than not, there is little to no romance and instead you get a very deep, serious, and somber book that will continue to push your boundaries and socio-conventional rules. But at the same time, all this combined makes for a really hot book so if you like something that’s not your standard erotica, try this out! Just maybe not in public ;)

I beta read a super advanced ARC of this book.

4 stars for the little fly that got caught in the spider's web

I’m spoiling EVERYTHING in this review, you have been warned

This book is LITERALLY not for me

This is probably the first time i admit to people and myself that i found this book very dark for my taste, i love dark themed books but this one is beyond dark GOD !! I’m mindfucked now, i feel so betrayed and hurt and helpeless (dammit remember it’s not real they are fictional character), we have four characters in the story Autumn, Lucas, Sarah, Adam , 40% of the book was all about Autumn’s life, she is great, strong, smart( not so smart) librarian, i loved her but also i wanted to to beat the shit out of her « what the hell is wrong with you , open your eyes you dumb bitch » ! Yeah I'm so frustrated right now

Lucas : oh my dear Lucas i thought you’re an Alpha, dominat male and i was fooled, i could NOT believe that he was a submissive to sarah ! His personal assistant, what she does is use him to write REAL stories about Targets "women to use" and get rich in the process, she provides him with the « targets » and he abuse and rape them, once he’s done with his toys he gets rid of them, Poor Autunum !!

Sarah’s character reminded me of Cersei Lannister ! You know THE MOST HATED CHARACTER IN GAME OF THRONES because she is a Liar, Manipulator, sneaky bitch , words can’t describe how much i despise Sarah’s charcter

Adam is a cop who helped Autumn survive the hell she lived in, anyway, i thought he's a good guy too but Na-uh .... he did something by the end of the story and it was a HUUUGE cliffhanger !

3 STARS! ★★★

“I wouldn’t stop until I had her. She was a project that was too hard to resist. She was a character that needed to be developed and an angel that needed to fall.”

After coming out from the Original Sinners series & DNF-ing 3 books later, I thought the only way I could be saved from my book slump would be to go back to my trusted dark reads. And who better to get it from Lily White herself. Sadly this read left me feeling underwhelmed and while I did enjoy it for the most parts, there was just some things that did not quite hit the mark.

Target This is about a dark erotic author, Lucas Bates who recently came into a small town library to research for his next book. While there, he spot his next target, Autumn Cleary, a young prim and proper librarian who comes off rather prudish and is against the ideas of Lucas's books.

Completely intrigued by how Autumn challenges him, Lucas is determined to break into her thoughts and so he begins to manipulate her every move and step that eventually lands her under Lucas's grasp.

With Lily White's books, I know I can expect her to deliver the psychological element well and that she did here with Lucas and how well-thought out his every move was. Not short of several plot twists and turns, I was once left again to question what Lucas's true motives were with Autumn and everytime I think I was closer to the truth, the story starts to throw me off elsewhere.

"However, it was the calm predators that interested me the most. The kind that were silent in their crimes; that slipped in like a gentle breeze, securing their target and disappearing before anybody knew something was amiss."

However I somehow had a problem connecting to both characters and both of them felt a little off-ish for me. Lucas didn't come off to me as a "Master" or dominant type, he was more like aloof with all the crazy mindgame he's pulling off. Autumn on the other hand, her transition from prude and prim to suddenly accepting of what is happening to her wasn't really explained in depth.

The first half of the book was also very intriguing and kept pushing me on to read but by the second half, the story kinda fell flat and nothing that completely blew me away. While the author still delivered her signature twisted ending, I personally felt that some things just didn't fit quite right with the story and some unanswered questions.

Overall it was an okay one but with Lily White, I usually have higher expectations so I'll blame my mediocre rating as a result of me being spoilt with her other amazing books. It still has the dark and twisted element but nothing that would leave me shuddering or be blown away.

Autumn Cleary, the poster-child for the prim and proper, prudish librarian, meets Lucas Bates, famous dark erotica writer while he's researching for his newest novel about a serial killer. Lucas is taken back by the stiff, judgmental librarian that doesn't mince words on her opinions of his literary work. She finds erotica sickening and depraved and should take no space in her library. She treats him as if he's not anything more than a dark, twisted freak. He's intrigued. What would it take to break down her walls? Feel the bite of pain, the spark of passion. The challenge begins...

No? Then you've never read a Lily White book. If there's anything I can count on with her, it's to expect the unexpected. Don't even try to figure out the ending cuz you're gonna be WRONG.

So, in true Lily White style, she provides her readers with a plot that twists and turns every step of the way. Lucas was a strange MC. He was kind of an enigma...what is the real guy and what is the farce he puts on to throw Autumn off her game. I wanted to guess what Lucas was up to, what his motives were, but I knew anything I thought I figured out would be completely incorrect when she throws me her signature plot twist in the end. She, once again, didn't fail.

I've read several dark, crazy books from this author (and books by her other pen name) and this is probably my least favorite so far. I'm not sure what missed the mark for me...I mean, I enjoyed it, I guess it wasn't that twisted or dark compared to her other reads. There's definitely the signature twist in the end but it wasn't quite as shocking to me as some of her other stuff.

A friend penned this book as "erotically dark" and I think that's a safe description. It's not gruesome like Madeleine Abducted or Her Master's Courtesan...and it skirts the dark BDSM genre. Dark being more grayish than the stuff I've read in the past. I enjoyed it...just wasn't a love. Maybe Lucas just didn't do it for me as a true Dom. Usually I really connect to the Alpha Dom character and through most of the book, he gave me serious Hannibal Lector creeps. So icky creepy, not hot.

Yah..I kinda freaked out a bit with him, I do admit...

 photo 3B962815-2E39-4753-95F3-EEDDC2A15C6C_zpsp5ntez16.gif

But I digress...The book falls into the common trope of innocent, prudish virginal chick meets dark Alpha Dom to embrace her inner...wait for it...goddess. She doesn't rush to accept her fate with Lucas but he's the Master at manipulations. She succumbs willingly... Let there be no mistake, however, this is NOT a love story. It's a story of dominance, awakenings, trickery, and seduction.

The first half was fairly slow for me. Had it been any other author, I may have quit but I knew Lily White would throw the mind fuckery my way so I plugged along. The second half was more steamy and erotic. In the end, I'm happy I held out.

And I thank you!

4 You Hit My Target Stars

There are two authors who give me shivers and goosebumps and Lily White is one of them....

 photo 7275137_zps3eaa0697.gif

Lucas Bates is a writer of dark erotica.
He relocates to a small town, he needs to finish his next book and soon.
 photo tumblr_mykkqkFxP11rfbjpmo1_500_zpsc23282cf.jpg

For some reason only at this time known to Lucas.... is that he is obsessed with a stuffy, prim and proper librarian called Autumn who is repelled by his dark taste in writing.
 photo 9b4af2e48630a7dd62398b12656423a8_zps53a632b6.jpg

Autumn was my target – and for as much as I wanted her body riding my cock, I needed her mind to reveal the truth about…

So what is his interest in Autumn, I mean hes goodlooking, charming but arrogant and of course very rich so he can literally have the pick of any women.
 photo 757408_zps605a20c0.gif

But no Lucas wants Autumn and the more she refuses his advances the more he ups his game.

Is it a game?

"My house, my rules."

Wary of him, Autumn makes it clear she is not interested but when an incident happens suddenly she realises that she may need to change her mind and soon...

 photo tumblr_ly67ph27mG1qbi11xo1_250_zps72806719.gif

This story has a wonderful atmospheric feel about it. It feels damp and cold and its a perfect background for the story...
 photo 3125486_zps7f6f4e46.gif

As with her other stories Lily Whites writing is dark and consuming and although this story is slightly different from her other books it still has the Lily White trademark to make this erotic thriller interesting and intriguing.
If I'm honest I loved the way I had no idea where this story was going, yes there are clues..but of course I'm not telling.

 photo tumblr-herecomethedots_zpse30bacd6.gif

On a final note I must mention two other characters that are just as mysterious, Sarah the blonde personal assistant to Lucas and The Detective Adam Marx who bring a twist to the tale...

I have FINALLY popped my "Lily White" cherry!! I lost count how many times I asked on my blog people to pimp/tag their favorite author and this author's name came up every time!!

So I turned off life picked up this book and I seriously could not put this fukka down, it truly just sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading to find out what the fuck happens next, it was also totally different to what I thought it would be, I thought I was going to be dragged into a dark gritty read but it ended up being a pantry wetting book of hotness!!

The writing style is also different to what I'm used to, it had his/her POV slow paced to what I'm used to but the story telling and wording is brilliant!! Will definitely be reading more from this author..

I love the fact that this was the first thing in the book for readers to read.

Now that you have read the warning......If this is not for you then that is fine.

BUT if you like to live a little dangerously and like your books DARK ( like me) then read this book.

But remember you have been warned!

I am not going to go into to much detail of the book just give you the bases because honestly you need to read the book to get the full experience for yourself.

Lucas Bates~

 photo TargetThisteaser01_zpsd59b32cc.png

Lucas just moved to a small town were he has bought the Old Mansion and restored it to his likings.

Oh and how he restored it.

Lucas is a famous Dark Erotic Writer who in more ways then one lives through his characters.

He researches rapist and serial killers he is fascinated how their mind works and what they do to their victims.

Every women in town knows about Lucas Bates and his writing and every one of them but “ONE” would love to have him “Master” her like the characters in his books.

Lucas is many things but nice is NOT one of them.

He arrives at the local library to do some research on his newest novel.

That is when he stumbles upon Autumn one of the librarians.

Autumn~

 photo AutumnTargetThisteaser_zps8b32a8c6.png

Autumn works at the local library.

She keeps to herself and only really has one friend Mary Beth.

She detests the fact that the library has erotic books.

If it was her choice the library would not carry such books.

Or anything that includes rape, murder, torture or abuse.

And obviously she has no idea that Lucas Bates (the man that just asked her to help him find one of the books she dis-test) writes this kind of stuff.

Until her friend Mary Beth later lets her know who he is. And all hell breaks loose.

She is not happy about the fact that he did not tell her who he was.

Autumn to me was a strong woman. She held her ground until holding her ground was not an option anymore.

Lucas is having some trouble connecting with his victim character in his new novel.

BUT......

He has come to the conclusion that Autumn is just the inspiration he needs and she is going to be his muse (victim) for his new novel.

He must have her and have her he will.

But what will he do to her once he has her?

“She was a virgin to the taboo; a woman surrounded in light that she thought would protect her from the shadows. I was about to show her what she was missing.”

Autumn's perfect little world came crumbling down one night and she had no choice but to end up staying with Lucas.

NOW the game can begin.

Lucas has three rules while she stay in his home never go in the basement and never go on the third floor and NEVER EVER interrupt him while he is working in his office. Follow those rules and all will be fine.

Or will it?

Can Autumn follow Lucas rules?

Or will she be to curious and want to find out what was on the third floor and basement?

 photo correctcomboTTteaser_zps1dc1d0ed.png

Lucas has an assistant named Sarah that was a total BITCH!

Sarah~

 photo TargetThisteaserSarah_zpsd6c43076.png

Lord almighty that women.

She was a version of Lucas in woman form. You will see what I mean when you read it.

You will be saying a few things while reading this book like~

gif wtf photo: WTF???!!! WTF.gif

AND

gif oh hell no photo: Oh Hell to the no Glee OhhHellToTheNo.gif

AND

 photo gif_zps3013052d.png

I will leave you with this~

What will Lucas do to Autumn since now he has her in his home?

Will Autumn call Lucas “Master”?

Is Lucas just like his characters he writes about?

What will happen to her when she finds herself in the middle of Lucas gauntlet? ( a place she is to never go)

Will Autumn survive Lucas?

Does Lucas finish his book since he has his muse under his roof?

How will Lucas use Autumn to inspire him in his writing?

Have I peaked your interest yet?

To find out all the answers to the questions READ THE BOOK!!!!

While your reading this book you are also reading sections of Lucas's book he is currently writing.

The sex in this book was HOT. Twisted yes, BUT STILL HOT.

I will not go into detail you just need to read the book to find out.

All I can say is that this book is not for the faint of heart.

It is dark and it is very disturbing.

I loved this book.

The story was amazingly written.

This book was seriously TWISTED with a capital "T".

I recommend this to anyone who likes a dark read.

Another hit for me by Lily White.

Can not wait for the next book.

4.5 Muse stars!!

 photo image.jpg1_zpsopuvxouh.jpg
Autumn’s stubborn nature was the key to her destruction, the element that caught my attention and the factor that made her the perfect target.

Another fantastic psychologic-erotic tale by Lily White. Wow! I'm a little speechless about that ending.

Dark erotic author, Lucas Bates is in town doing research for his latest book. When he literally runs into librarian, Autumn Cleary, he knows he has found the muse for the heroine that is needed to make his book great.

The prim and proper Autumn is not a fan of Lucas's work, and has no qualms about telling him how she feels. He is not dissuaded by Autumns comments, and is on a mission to get her to see that his books are not solely about the evil and sexual situations he writes about.

 photo image.jpg1_zpsyiwcdkah.jpg

When odd circumstances occur, Autumn must trust Lucas to help her get out of a sticky situation. Soon, she finds herself bending, and ultimately breaking, out of her shell.

But at what cost?

 photo imagejpg3_zpsdfa8f0b7.jpg

Pretty vague, right?
It wasn't possible for me to go into any more details, as there is no fun in that.

Whenever I read a Lily White novel, not only do I know I'm in for an intriguing read, but without a doubt I know she is going to mess with my mind toward the end. And I absolutely love that!!

The first half was pretty mundane for my taste, but then it started picking up and I could not wait to see what would transpire. It was a great read, but at the same time, nothing was truly original for me. And then I read the epilogue and my whole thought process about this book went out the window. An amazing turn of events that had my mouth wide open and saying "Holy Shit"!!!
Damn you Lily, you got me YET again! You evil genius!

I deducted a half a star due to the slow start and my detachment from the characters. However I feel it's important to say...

Just know if you read this, I would not categorize this as a romance. I'm sure if you've read any of this authors works, you realize what her stories are about, and this was no exception. It was dark, raw, erotic, and turned out to be quite the mindfuck. If this sounds like your taste, I'd recommend giving it a whirl.

I give this book 2 1/2 - 3 stars. I had a really hard time getting into this story until over half way through. The writing was fine. I just didn't feel any connection to the story or main characters. If I had it to do over, I would have read something else on my "to be read" list.

The female protagonist, Autumn, was an uptight, prudish librarian with a stick up her ass. While many authors are able to take such a character and make their antics comical or endearing, this author did neither. The male lead was also unimpressive. He was an arrogant, sadistic, ass that got off on toying with Autumn under the guise of conducting research for his latest novel. Any attempt to portray him as a sexy, dominant alpha-male fell short by miles.

What you're left with is 2 characters that you don't like, a predictable plot and so-so sex scenes. The story failed to evoke any emotion, probably because there was absolutely no connection to the characters. The ending was lukewarm at best and didn't come nearly quick enough.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this book. Definitely not my cup of tea.

When reading Target This I felt a mixture of feelings but ultimately I felt like I was playing a game of chess or trying to find my way through a maze where it's players were all part of the game and played there part well.

I really enjoyed this one for one Lily's writing was as strong as ever and kept me on my toes with the suspense of what's going to happen next and although this is a darker read I'd say it has a lot of erotic in it too and for me it was a mixture of genres, erotic being the main with a good plot and dialogue.

So lets introduce you to the players.

MASTER LUCAS
Lucas is an Dark erotic author to many books and is famous for his taboo subjects and how he makes the women in his stories the sluts in their 'inner selves'. He's recently moved to town and is taking the time to research his new novel, he's walked into the local library and gossip follows sync with his arrival. I would describe Lucas as Alluring, Desirable and Dominating. What I really enjoyed about Lucas and all that is around Lucas is what was real? what was not? a Book inside a book... and most definitely a 'MIND FUCK'

 photo untiegif_zps8132a394.gif

Autumn was my Target and for as much as I wanted her body riding my cock, I needed her mind to reveal the truth about her fear.

Autumn
Autumn is the very 'snotty' but naïve librarian, she doesn't have much of a life apart from her books, her job and the people she meets at there plus her best friend Mary-Beth. So when Lucas walks through the door she wants to walk away but struggles when Lucas has his sights focused on Autumn.

"There is nothing sexier than a woman willing to attempt to put me in my place."

 photo D744F0D3-7D90-4580-9A44-42890A2F8CC6_zpsxln6d3lj.gif

And once he grabs hold of her the way he is able to manipulate her thoughts, actions, how she reasons everything.... she unravels that wall and soon becomes his TARGET...

 photo AB13A230-CD90-4759-AE8A-9786436DB142_zpsgzki6x4d.jpg

Sarah
Sarah is not a likeable character and although I didn't enjoy her I loved to hate her and what you have to understand here is Sarah is a Mistress, and she is working hard to keep that role.

Mary-Beth
A small fish in a very large pond... #That is all... she wants what she can't necessarily have.

Detective marx
Gets caught up in the middle of the game and while he investigates all that is happening concerning Autumn he ends up becoming a player too.

Lots of events occur and all the players are entwined and are unravelled as time goes on... I'll say this again a Book within a Book I really enjoyed that, it made it more of a mystery and hands are dealt, players are there to play there part and decisions are made.

My thoughts
This is very much a MIND FUCK of a book and anyone who enjoyed consequences series I would say would enjoy this as it really does play with your mind, not only that anyone who enjoys erotica will love this too as there's plenty to enjoy here. Lily has played the game well but above all I'm giving this 4.75 stars for imagination. A SMALL WARNING AS IN ANY LILY BOOK, THIS I NOT A ROMANCE- THIS IS EROTCA AT IT'S BEST

This book hits alot of genres. Dark erotica-psychological thriller-suspense and even love.
The writing was amazing.
It's told from 2 points of view but also from a book the antagonist is writing which makes you think differently about the character.
Every chapter makes you think differently of where the book is taking you.
I couldn't put this down.
The story was way above the dark erotica that was in it. There was quite abit. Just a warning.
The twists is this book just kept on and on.
I can't get enough of this author even though this isn't my usual genre. Incredible writing

I loved the beginning of this book (guess I have a thing for snobbish librarians?) but my interest took a nosedive from the 40-86% mark. The ending should've felt like a great mind-twisting revelation, but it mostly felt anticlimactic to me. Lucas was a jerk, Detective Marx was untrustworthy, and there weren't any characters to root for. In the end, the uptight librarian still wasn't a very good judge of character. Overall, an okay read.

WTF?

"There is a whore inside you waiting to be released."

oh, yeah, those are really the words every woman wants to hear!
oooh, I am so turned on right now!
C'mon!

I didn't like the guy, Lucas at all, inspite the description (black hair - blue eyes, tall, dark and dangerous)but really? he was a sadistical prick

but Sarah, well another character to hate...that's a pin point...

Autumn, I don't really know what to say here, at first i was kinda rooting for her "not to give in to" Lucas's ways but then she caved, she broke and she gave in...and that was the deal breaker for me...

there was NOT a single character in this book that I liked, so it's a f*ucked up situation to be in!
i have nowhere to turn to...

I need at least one character to like, for fuck's sake!

about the story:
I like dark, nothing wrong with dark, nothing wrong with pushing the limits, nothing wrong with exploring and finding out the darker inner you, but only if one really wants to, not being lurred into it, not being coaxed into it...and with dignity, please!

it's about the trust, willingly given, willingly chosen...

this whole story was a huge set up for someone else's kinks and f*cked up master minds and I was stuck in it, wishing to God they would all just drop dead and die, twice, all over again...

I did not like it!
All the characters were either "fucking too evil" or "fucking too naive/stupid"

and it started out so good...

DARK AND TWISTED..LILY WHITE AT HER BEST!!

This book will seriously mess with your head...

Lucas is an eccentric erotic writer and I suppose you could say looking for a muse or 'target' for his next book....
He develops an obsession with Autumn, a prim and proper Librarian ( who hates him on sight and his books ....)

I just hated,hated,hated Lucas so much and was desperate to witness his downfall...my heart ached for Autumn and what she went through,

"Your inner whore is awakening,my love....the dirty bitch that resides beneath the prim exterior"

Don't go into this one thinking it's a love story because no matter how much you might want it to be,it isn't...it's DARK and twisted and will have you feeling all kinds of emotions

Two secondary characters that play an integral part are..
Sarah..Personal Assistant to Lucas ( my God, I hated her !! )

And a Dectective..Adam who had an interesting part in the story and all I'll say here is that there is a twist...but is it good??

I'm sure fans of Lily White will love this...if you havn't read her books ....be warned it's a dark fucked up book, which I absolutely LOVED !!

** M U S 3 stars!

WHAT.THE.FUCK.DID.I.JUST.READ???
Most people took issue with a person who was attracted to the darker side of life. We were the people that others considered abnormal and strange. We enjoyed things that were taboo and without taste.
I'm kinda a late person who read this. Lily White is my top author for dark and twisted story. Thanks to anyone who support me to read this. Especially myself who survive Target This. Lily White is really amazing author who target my sanity all the time.

Autumn Clearly works as librarian in a small town. Her life is nothing interested. It's plainly boring and she's a bit prude. Enter Lucas Bates who is a dark and psychology author and just recently moved to the town. He decided to make Autumn to be his next muse because she will make an interesting heroine in his next book.
"You are the woman I am after and it's only matter of time before you succumb and seek solace within my open arms."
I'm gonna question my sanity after this. ** Contains spoiler **
✔ Lucas Bates.
Physically handsome and has a great sexual attraction. BUT, there is no words for this sick man. He did all of his sinister act for the sake of his book. He's a man who will never do relationship. He's a Master; that what he referred to himself. But I don't think so, Nope!! He's NOT capable of BDSM relationship in any form. He's abusive and manipulative bastard.

✔ Autumn Clearly is a boring librarian which recently her life has been destroyed by the devil himself. She's the next target. The new muse. Sometimes I hated her because her judgmental attitude. Her character was very confusing for me. Pity, she's only a pawn.
She was my perfect muse, the voice of a victim previously silenced by the monsters that lurked in shadowed corners. She was the woman who would introduce me to the psychology of confusion, of terror and to the lose of hope. Autumn was my target and for as much as I wanted her body riding my cock, I needed her mind to reveal the truth about her fear.
✔ Sarah 'The Assistant'
has strange relationship with Lucas. She hides behind the mask and seems do every dirty job for Lucas. But I was wrong.

✔ Another pawn in this sick game who looks like nobody but in the end, they're important to complete the quest. Mary Beth; Autumn's friend and Detective Marx. They have their own story to tell.

There is no amount of sexiness nor horniest in their fucking moment. Sickly and depressing for my mind. In the end, it was fucked up. There is no way to going back. The first 40% was slow paced to explain Autumn's life with Lucas' presence. The rest was just unbearable and unforgivable how her plain life crumbled in front of her eyes. Despite how amazing the writing and the plot that I WAS WRONG about the end, I leave it with 3 stars. It was too good to be bad and wasted. There is no end game with Lucas and his assistant. Even Autumn's life seems happy in the end, there is something unpleasant and left hanged. There was so much unanswered question.

Lesson from Target This: Never believe a handsome devil with rainbow and candy. The truth is very creepy and frightening.

WHAT THE FACKIN ENDING WAS THAT?!!! I FEEL LIKE TO SMASH SOMETHING!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 You-Shitting-Me Stars!
There, you have it. And to be completely honest, I will think twice if I ever come across to Lily White's book again. The irony though, I was thinking about giving this 4-5 stars because it has good story, very different from her 3 previous books i have read. But truth to be told, the epilogue was shitting me! How in the mind-fuck mind did you do that to me?!! Why you gave ending such as that?!!
description
description
description
This book was about an erotica-dark-rich author, named Lucas Bates. And his next muse, victim, for his next book, Autumn Clearly. Lucas is master of manipulation, really. Reading this book was felt like reading a mystery book. I keep guessing and guessing who was the bad man/men really. Autumn Clearly is a worker in a county library in her city.
The story started really intriguing, I liked how Lucas trying to lure Autumn into his charm. It was not instant. And yes, Autumn sensed bad vibe about him that's why she was really careful. It took 50% of the book to finally have her on his black hole, his Tudor like house.
It was not like him taking her as captive and then beat her everyday to weak her physical and psyche. No, it was his manipulation ways that made her falling willingly into him. HE WAS A SMOOTH BASTARD, LADIES.. And I liked how the author put some glimpses of his book, and the book itself really dark and mind-fackin'.
Also, there was this evil bitch, literally evil bitch Sarah, his assistant. I WON'T EVEN FEEL SORRY IF SHE GETS CRUSH BY A TRAIN.
description
So, what has made me giving it only 1 star instead of 4 or 5 as i planned before? As i stated above, it's the epilogue, the freaking absurd, weird, odd epilogue.. It's good that some people liked this book, really. I hoped I can do the same and giving it good rating. But after reading the epilogue?? Nu-uh, I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T. The ending shitting me so I won't give the pleasure to give it a good rating. Remember RAW by Belle Aurora ending, guys? You didn't like it, did you? Me definitely not liked it. BUT, at least we get to know that Twitch still alive and watching two of his love life, didn't we?
And what about this book? NO! I mean, I hope that AT LEAST give some punishment for evil-bitch Sarah and douche-bag dick Lucas for what they have done to Autumn!! INSTEAD THEY FREED OF WHAT THEY DID! What the fuck?!! GIVE SOME JUSTICE TO AUTUMN!! And then there's this thing: Adam winked to somebody behind Autumn's back and when she asked what happened/what's wrong he just said nothing to her. And then right after, when I expected some sort of explanation because apparently there was 2 or 3 pages left, I met this word: THE END. So, that's why I felt like to smash my gadget! And thank god i still have some restrain left because i don't have spare money to buy me new gadget yet. Ha!
Please note: I liked the story in this book. But the ending completely shitting me. And as Beverly's stated on her review: LOTS OF UNANSWERED QUESTIONS... So excuse my wounded feeling I definitely can't give this good rating.
Autumn Cleary is a dedicated librarian who respects all forms of literature though if she had her way her library wouldn't carry 'erotica' books, most especially those written by Lucas Bates.
Little does she realize that she's about to meet 'Master' Lucas in the flesh and it's for that and other reasons that he's decided to target Autumn as his next....
Warning: this is a dark (inho erotic thriller/horror) themed read. This isn't your fairy tale BDSM read with a HEA ending. It's dirty, raunchy, disturbing, and push comfort zone sort of read intended for fans who appreciate this subgenre. Consider yourself warned.
This was a book I didn't want to like but did. Lucas & Autumn's 'relationship' was a chess match of mind fuckery and sadomasochistic erotica scenes that challenged me the reader to play along until the very end when it is revealed who the ultimate 'master' of the game was and why. Checkmate goes to the author.
You know that block buster horror movie that all your friends have been raving about? The one with a chain saw wielding serial killer or the well manner hotel operator who hides a dark side sort of movie? You go to see it for yourself realizing it has the potential to scare the sh*t out of you and you're prepared for it. Forewarned is forearmed right? Good luck people. The only thing is that just like those types of movies the 'heroine' keeps making those stupid decisions to go down the basement, to answer the door, and just making stupid decisions that had me screaming at my e reader in frustration.
As this is a new release I really don't want to spoil the reading experience by saying too much so I won't. The important points are that this is an erotic thriller/horror/suspense/BDSM/sadomasochistic/dark read.
Important. The following is spoiler information as to why I went with a 4 star instead of 5 star rating. I'd suggest reading the following after you read the book yourself to see if you agree/disagree. I'll just say for those who won't be reading the spoiler info that details are important in a story.
This is a book I'd only recommend to readers who appreciate dark psychological thriller type reads that include erotica. If you do ... you definitely need to check this book out.
Well, I do love me some dark erotica and Lily White is undeniably one of the Queens of the genre. So be prepared – this is absolutely not a romance novel. If you’re looking for hearts and flowers, a white knight to ride in at the eleventh hour and rescue the damsel in distress or possibly just plain old erotic romance, you won’t find it here. What you will find is a twisted, darkly erotic and disturbing tale of lust, control, manipulation and absolute dominion. It’s an edgy and darker walk on the wilder side of erotica.
To really excel in the field of dark erotica, a book should scare and shock the bejesus out of you while turning you on all at the same time. Dark erotica is, undeniably, a guilty pleasure and this book is a fine example and there’s really no better way to describe it than a total mind-fuck.
Our unfortunate heroine is Autumn Clearly, local librarian, spinster of this parish and really rather a prude. Her life is turned upside down when Lucas Bates walks into her library. Lucas is a renowned author of dark erotica and Autumn considers his work to be absolute filth. She shares opinions with many I have seen about dark erotica – that it promotes rape and she is not prepared to give it a chance. Her mind is very closed off and she’s 100% prude.
Lucas relishes the challenge she poses and quickly sets about manipulating her into a position where she feels she has no choices left. Despite her puritanical opinions, I actually found Autumn to be really very likable and felt incredibly sorry for her as Lucas forced her into a corner she couldn’t get out of. And she went there willingly. Lucas, who needs inspiration and a muse for his next heroine, has Autumn directly in his crosshairs and he’s like a modern day Moriarty as he moves his chess pieces with deadly precision and forces our hapless heroine into a checkmate situation. She now has no choice but to submit to him and kneel at his feet and call him master.
Lucas is a tour de force as a dark erotic hero, and I use that term lightly – most of the time I didn’t know whether I was jut plain terrified of him or just wanted him to take control of me in his dungeons. He’s really rather deliciously evil and tantalisingly hot all at once and never once did I trust this man – it’s not clear, really until the final chapters, just what his end game really is but, please believe me, this man is not a romantic hero. He’s divinely sadistic and dominant but love and romance really do not make up part of this man’s vocabulary. He’s singular, determined and commanding – just the way a sadist dom should be.
His assistant Sarah and local Detective Adam Marx also have a big part to play in this story, and at the end of the story, you will have to make up your mind who actually is the arch-manipulator in all of this and who is actually being manipulated. I did mention twisted, right?
I actually got a weird kind of Salem’s Lot vibe going on when I read this – Lucas buys a big, old house in a small town. The house has an infamous reputation amongst the locals for harbouring sex slavery dungeons in the basement in the past and Lucas moves in as a Master and starts to work his evil magic on the local girls – really rather like the vampires in Stephen King’s novel! Bit of a bizarre observation, I know, but I definitely felt it!
Target This was a real edge of your seat read as the plot twists and turns as it takes the reader down a very dark path – I was completely enthralled and consumed as I submerged myself in Lily white’s dark world and just let the horror of the story wash over me. It’s at once shocking and arousing – frightening yet oh so hot. Just the way dark erotica should be.
Lily White, who as we all know has had problems with Amazon pulling her books from sale in the past, masterfully walks a fine line here between absolute non-con and dubious forced consent – I think this was magnificently done. It’s an incredibly well crafted story which will keep you guessing as a reader – you never know quite which direction she’s going to take you in next. You only know that it won’t be a happy one!
4,5 crazy mind games stars!
"Like I care. You see, the true sign of a Master or Mistress is the ability to manipulate somebody’s mind without even having to touch the body. It’s the ability to get into someone’s thoughts, to know them better than they know themselves - to be able to suggest what you want them to do, with full confidence that they’ll do it. "
HOLY SHIT!!! That was fuckin' brilliantly crazy!!!!!
I'm not gonna talk about the storyline or the characters i'm gonna talk about the book and the emotions that were provoked out of me!
This was one of the most darker mind games i've ever read!
it will make your soul bleed,break your heart and shatter your mind into million pieces!!!
This isn't even your conventional dark story with a tutored hero with twisted desires....NO,he is a perfectly healthy sane man with the coldest calculated heart i've read about so far!
The mind games really blew me away....the anticipation was killing me...you could never expect what he is gonna do next! he was arrogant confident,persistent,heartless, so freakin' intense and scary!
How can someone corrupt and turn something so pure and shining into something so despicable,dirty and dark filled with despair and self-loathing?!!!
How would you feel if you find yourself peeled layer after layer physically and mentally?!
How would feel if......you did that willingly?!
He is the master of manipulation and deception.....always calculating his moves, never does an action without a purpose in mind....you will never understand his true intentions wether if he's lying or not?! wether he's responsible for what's happening or not?!! You'r gonna be suspicious of him and everybody else the whole time,he will even make you question your own mind!!
"No matter how much I wished I could return to the innocent girl who believed in love stories and happy endings. I would always know intimately what lurks in the shadowed corners and the type of pain that could come when you lost your way in the dark."
He was an artist in what he was doing....all you could do is just stand there and watch in awe with your hands gripping your kindle tightly!!
*********************************
Well,all of the previous words i'd written before i finished the book and read the ending!
And OMG!! What a CRAZY ending!!
It blew me away, my mouth was catching flys....yeah, i somehow expected some of it but the whole truth was freakin' fucked up i was like.....
This book was so much more than i expected....it had it all,suspense,humiliation,violence,mind games,manipulation,deception,masked conditioned honesty,revenge,dark twists and crazy revelations.......you will be hooked from the first page and you won't be able to put it down...pretty much setting at the edge of your seat bitting your nails!
Just freakin' big WOOOOW!
Not what I was looking for. It's dark. Twisted and unexpected. The first half of the book was good, but the other half was too much. It felt unbelievable, too long and it left me hanging. Lots of unanswered questions.
My feelings toward this story are so blurred. I'm not sure how to rate this book or what to say. I don’t even know if I liked it or not. This was a train wreck that I couldn't turn away from.
I had the hardest time reading this book. Thought about DNF too many times but as I said I couldn’t turn away from it. I struggled so badly just like Autumn struggled. I decided to skip the BDSM scenes so I could go forward with the reading (which means I didn’t read about 30% of the book!). Call me crazy but even hating the things that was happening I had to know what was going on. All the suspense there had my attention.
Lucas was mean and superficial. Just a jerk. A self-centered narcissistic bastard, and probably in need of therapy. He clearly needed some meds. And he should take his assistant with him too. Or maybe go straight to a mental hospital with her. I couldn’t feel any sympathy for both of them at the end.
There wasn’t absolutely any romantically connection between the main characters. Only pain.
However, the ending had my head spinning. It really shook me up. It made me see things in a different perspective and reflect upon things. The degree of manipulation in this story is INTENSE. And any book that can keep me riveted to the very last word is a good read.
Target This is a psychologically, entrancing, enchanting book written beautifully by Lily White. It is my first book by her and what I debut for me it was. I mean this book had me on the edge of my seat. This book is not a heart and flowers kind of book. There is no love or good. Just a book that goes between right and wrong. A book that streches the boundaries of the human psyche. What you believe that there is good in the world but there is also evil in the world. Target This showcased that evil in the world.
I was hesitant to start this book but I am a big fan of dark romamce and I was looking for a story that will have my heart quicken and give so much excitement and Target This was the perfect book to give me that excitement. After reading Target This, I am now addicted to read Lily White's work.
When I say that this book was psychologically good, I mean this book had you mind in a state. What you think you know what will happen, will not necessarily happen. You may think you have this book all worked out but there comes a certain scene that will shock you and literally has all that you thought out of your mind. I loved that the story was so different from what I read and that writtn in first person, I was able to understand this story more. The emotions of the characters in this book was so vividly written that I became part of the characters psyche. Their voices and thoughts were written in such a way that I became part of it.
A tale of woman that is set free. A tale of man who writes with dark undertones and picks women as his mise for his stories. Thats how magical this book was.
“This book is dedicated to the person who freed herself because she can now see the lesson that is hidden within the filth.
I definitely recommend this book if you want take a step into the dark side. Read if you dare.
**I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review**
Ahhhhh I am so happy to have read a well written dark/erotic book. With so many popping up and so many times I have been disappointed I WAS NOT with Target This.
Autumn is a prudish librarian.
Not liking anything erotic or sexual in her library she is appalled that the erotic/thriller author, Lucas Bates, is doing his research their.(Personally I would never go to a library that doesn't have sexy books in it)
The woman flock to him. Old and young they want him and his stories. Some believing he is the same man as the characters he writes.
He only has his eyes set on one woman. His next Target. His muse.
Autumn will fight him until she has nothing left. No where to turn and nowhere to go.
Lucas is a twisted man. His assistant, Sarah, is not much better.
I was terrified for Autumn and yet I commend her. It may have taken her a while but she finally understood the method for Lucas's madness.
There are so many things in this book that to try and put it into a summary is impossible.
The stories within this book kept me screaming for more. The dimensions had me wondering if I was loosing my mind or if Lily was twisting my brain in different directions.
There are stories behind every great book written, not just the erotic sexy stuff, or the crudeness in the paragraphs that are written.
This is a fantastic example of a story written with a meaning behind it.
Great job Lily...
Loved it. Not as dark as I thought it would be but still a great read.
Autumn was like a fish on the end of a fishing line slowly being reeled in by Lucas. Until he got what he wanted. Sarah the complete bitch but then every book has to have one. The suspense had me hooked right through to the end. I still hadn't figured it out but I loved how it ended. Brilliantly done.
Audiobook review:
Okay so like, this is my first dark romance and like, oh my gosh! So beautifully dark and twisted, but plenty of moments to breathe before it’s ripped away again. So many twists and turns, it’s like making your way through a maze and you walk every step with Autumn, even when you’re reading Lucas’ chapters.
As for the narrators, they were both wonderful choices to bring this book to life. Ada and Orcus really embodied Autumn and Lucas, bringing all the characters emotions and wants forth in a way that had me want to keep listening and not stop.
Whoa! I have been left totally shocked out of my wits !!
Whew!! I was reading this book until 3:00 in the morning i just couldn't stop i was super engrossed with all the characters of the book , and towards the end i even felt in awe for one of them !
When i started seeing how our main girl Autumn was described , i liked her maybe she was a bit to into her shell but , i thought she had spunk , the way that she laid it down on Mr.Lucas. At times though i wanted just to shake her and be like dont be so dumb !!! You foolish girl ... She had her inclinations of sorts about staying away
" his presence disturbed and intrigued me all at the same time and i wanted nothing more than to slink away" ( but we all know how that goes)
uhhhh .... LUCAS !! I hated that man truly even when he was being nice i still despised him,not only for how he would treat her ,but even how he just perceived women to be uhhh!! Just thinking of him puts me in a fowl mood . Although i hate him ,his whole persona was enticing ....
"Its my intent to be with you autumn and nothing you could say or do could knock me away from my course" ( creepy but hot i know)
" try and hurt me again and you will regret it " ( just freaking scary even if he's hot)
" do not allow yourself to believe that you are smarter then me beautiful ,if theres a game to be played i guarantee it i always have the upper hand " (A$$)
" my voice was deep, almost a feral growl are you ready to be owned" (OMButterflyingG)
This man had. A lot of issues but he sure had the power of persuasion ! And am not sure but in some parts i actually thought ,that he did have a heart under all his hard badass demeanor .
Now though as much as i had my problems with really liking Lucas uhh.. I really hated Sarah that witch was crazy ... I hated how she was overall ! Her snobby and snooty attitude yuck! I think she was horrible ... She seem to enjoy to get Autumn in trouble , and for a assistant she sure was always around!! Everywhere!.
And then there was Detective Marx ... He didnt come out much really but i loved him ,maybe when he came out at the beginning he was a bit cold... But really we cant blame him he was just doing his job!
" his eyes looked at me possesively" ( aww i think thats hot and cute!)
"He was a man who chased the monsters,who allowed their cruel acts to burn into his memory, just so he could remove them from the world" ( my her0)
