Super exciting action adventure story where the reader continually wonders if the protagonist's intelligence and positive attitude will be enough to save him from the next disaster. I found myself agonizing over and arguing with the author's solutions to keep Mark Watney alive- I was totally engaged. I struggled some with was how cheerful and reasonable Watney was in the face of major trauma. Granger gave plausible explanations for this character trait, but I found it a little hard to connect with a personality that didn't freak out or melt down under dire circumstances.
I did NOT read THIS book. I reread the ACTUAL book The Martian by Andy Weir but GoodRead has no way of rereading books for the challenge. And so, I found this kludgy, stupid solution.
This book was surprisingly funny for being so scientific. I enjoyed every physics and Martian filled part of it. I was sad to see it end. And wow. He must have done his research. I had to go back and check to see if it was fiction
Best Book in years - I'm not big on sci-fi but it's science needed to help drive the fiction. Great story, entertaining characters - I'm jealous of those who get to read it for the first time.
