Moondance Trilogy #1

Moondance in Red

Rate this book
MAGGIE DUPREE can’t understand why God hates her. So she’s stubborn, she curses—a lot, and maybe she plays too many practical jokes on her best friend. Nobody’s perfect. Nothing she has done should warrant the hell she received by marrying Jacob Greene. But the fiasco of her failed marriage taught her one valuable lesson: men can’t be trusted—especially the good ol’ boy types growing in abundance in her home town. With new-found independence, she resolves to remain single. There’s just one major kink in her plan.

Gorgeous and arrogant billionaire MASON REID has no trouble getting women and no desire to keep them. Thanks to a hard lesson learned from one vicious little gold-digger, he hasn’t had a meaningful relationship in two years. With no way to be sure if women want him or the money, he’s content with an easy routine of one-night-stands—that is, until he meets Maggie Dupree.

Neither can deny the intense attraction at their chance meeting, and once Mason becomes the target of Maggie’s spirited foul-mouthed rant, all bets are off. He concludes two things: one, he must have her and two, he doesn’t want her to know about his money.

Author bio is supposed to sound like it was written by some magical PR genius, right? It’s supposed to make the author sound intelligent, interesting, but most importantly, it’s supposed to sound like the author didn’t write it. Well, let’s be honest, I’m one of the hundreds, nay, thousands, of Indie authors operating as a one-woman show. I don’t mean to brag, but I literally do it all: I write, I create book covers, I format my own books . . . and, admittedly, I write my own bio. So, here it is (in first-person, in a relatively concise fashion): I have a day job at which I ingest ridiculous amounts of coffee and leave a lasting mark on the brains of teenagers (scary), and I don’t discuss my moonlighting—writing contemporary, Southern, erotic, romantic comedy. Sometimes I think I remember what my sweet husband looks like, but I’m not one hundred percent sure. I’m Indie by choice and likely to remain that way (mainly because I’m stubborn and curse like a sailor). And I often start sentences with coordinating conjunctions . . . on purpose. So, if you’re feelin’ froggy, have a go at one of my books, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

In Moondance on Red, we meet Mason Reid - a man with a secret, who has been burned before - and Maggie Dupree - a woman who escaped a nasty marriage and a bad divorce with no intention of keeping that to herself.

Almost immediately you fall in love with Reid in his cowboy boots and sometimes gentle, often authoritative demeanor. His attitude is only trumped by Dupree's spunk and sass.

A chance encounter brings the two together and right away, the reader is transported into their antics, ups and downs, and very sensual, kinky time in bed.

With a lot of action, conversation and several twists and surprises (and secret conversations), this book is a read in one-sitting one. Salem Archer does a fabulous job in her debut conveying accents and dialogue, and her descriptions of the locale transport the reader to Asheville, Knoxville, and my most favorite - an idyllic, romantic, ledge on a cliff to see the moon.

FIVE stars, and excited to read more from this author....

I am just wondering if we will get to read more about Trent - the never settling down, ever present, wild and crazy bachelor - in book 2.

I loved this book. The author as a sassy narrative to go with her spunky character and lots of steam. It's a wonderful romance novel if you want to walk the like between the classic romance style[and there are plenty of plot twists to make it unique]with thorough story, character and plot with absolutely wonderful descriptive style, and being just naughty enough. Ok, really naughty but really well done sex scenes. Mason is a naughty boy :-D

Moondance in Red is one of the best new romances I have read this year by a debut Indie Author. Salem Archer has a knack for writing delicious details and fantastic sharp-tongued, swoon-worthy dialogue.

What I loved most about this book were the poignant details of Southern life in the United States - from family values and relationships to good Southern cooking. Seriously, I wanted to eat buttered biscuits and gravy everyday and coconut ice cream - this is on my grocery list now. I will find you coconut ice cream.

Maggie Dupree, WOW what a heroine! I love her... she is strong, smart and sassy. When the story begins you find Maggie trying to bounce back from a terrible marriage from a man who seemed to think they were living in the time where a woman's place was in the kitchen - barefoot and pregnant. You find out that Maggie pretty much got the old "bait and switch" with Jacob Green once they were married. So, naturally, Maggie is guarded where men are concerned, but a chance meeting with sexy Mason Reid stirs something inside her. And who can blame her?

Mason Reid ... oh my oh my... OH MY GOD.. the man has all the things I love in a sexy leading man.. handsome... he's a touch mysterious... a "bit" confident, although some may mistake confidence for arrogance {Maggie}...There is so much more to him than Maggie even realizes, and that is what makes this story come to life. You also get a few chapters from Mason's POV, which was woven in at just the right times.

The relationship develops so naturally between Maggie and Mason...you cannot help rooting for these two and wanting more. From beginning to end you are caught up in the romance, the passion {No wonder they call it the "Dirty South"} and the drama....real life drama with fabulous jaw-dropping - "I did not see that coming" twists and turns making the story completely relatable.

Archer's writing is flawless, engaging and nothing short of entertaining. Once you start reading you won't want to stop.

Holy swoontastic! This book is a MUST READ... drop what your doing now and pick up this book... TRUST ME!

Well Done Salem Archer. I look forward to reading MUCH more from you.

AMAZING! I really enjoyed this debut novel of Salem Archer. I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads giveaway. I began reading it the day it came. I have to admit that the prologue and the first chapter (Maggie's perspective) were a little slow. However, from chapter two (Mason's point of view) I was hooked no matter who was narrating.

Maggie was a young wife who felt she was being treated like a maid instead of a lover; her husband openly ignored her request for time and intimacy. After the divorce, she thought that she would never trust a man again. The prologue and first chapter focused mostly on her self pity which helps the reader understand her actions later on, but this is also the reason I was not interested up to that point. In fact, I made a note in my test that she is an emotionally high maintenance woman. However, she meets Mason and her world gets turned upside down. Her heart opens as she allows this "knight" to treat her like a princess. They fall in love despite Mason keeping secrets form Maggie. Some of Mason's secret backfire on him and both parties are crushed. Can Maggie overcome the betrayal that she feels? Can she forgive him? (I don't want to give everything away.)

The author creates a realistic world in which a believable story unfolds. Readers are transported into the characters through the fun, witty, intense language and expressions. The strong desire between that characters really shows through the language. For example:
"Oh, sweetheart, I'm going to be doing a lot more for you than that. You just don't know it yet."
"It seems that three days ago I was inadvertently infected with some incurable disease, and this unnamed commandeered my brain."

The sex was hot. They deal with a little kink, but it's not over the top. Even people who are not into that type of intimacy would most likely not be offended by reading this novel. I enjoyed reading about the hot sex between these two as it allows to reader to experience these things for the first time right along Maggie.

This is a spunky, sassy, and downright enjoyable debut by the author. I felt I was transported to the Deep South with the literary allusions to the culture and vibrancy of the scenery and characters portrayed in a contemporary meets traditional setting.

The writing was flawless, and both characters were extremely likable and lovable. I enjoyed reading their triumphs and tribulations, and loved that the story ending in a HEAFN (happy ever after for now). Will we see a sequel? I sure hope so.

If you're looking for a sweet and spicy love story, search no more. This novel has it all. Yes, it has insta and second-chance love between two angsty characters, but for me, (and these are a glimmer of my personal preferences) this is my favorite kind of read.

Well done, Ms. Archer. Five stars. Brava.

Lets just start by saying that I loved this book. Here we meet Maggie a sassy and witty gal who is learning to stand on her own feet again and Mason a smart, gorgeous sexy as hell knight in shining armour. They are equally taken with each other but they both hold back because of trust issues. The story and characters are well developed and I sizzled with the heat of their chemistry. The sex as hot and even the curve ball thrown in near the end had my heart in my mouth and I felt like I felt everything Maggie felt as I was that stucked into the story. The story the author was telling was outstanding and had me hooked from the first page and I felt as though I had ring side seats to their romance. I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to get stuck into book two to find out what else is in store for the pair.
I received this book for an honest review.

First of let me say this is the first work I read from Salem Archer and wow! What a debut novel! This lady dragged me in from page one to the point where I refused to go to bed until I have devoured the lot! The characters dragged me in, and what can I say I love Georgia (Mr reids mum) and kept me hooked. I loved the plot line and I felt I was left on the edge of my seat waiting for the big reveal. There were many twists and turns. I loved this and I'm off to purchase book two. Oh and did I mention there's some seriously hot sex! With a seriously hot specimen of a man! Enjoy!

This book is that diamond in the rough. You know the one you pass over because you have never read this author. Well I'm here to tell you to pick up this book and then continue with Salem Archer's Moondance Series.

I was given an ARC for an honest review and I'm honestly telling you this book is really good. The characters jump off the page, the story flows and the steaminess between Maggie and Mason is hot. I really like Maggie. She's sassy and strong willed. She was fun to read. I really enjoyed this book.

Sweet and sexy

Moondance in Red started out fantastic and managed to hold onto that throughout the story. It's a real love-at-first-sight romance between a billionaire and a young, independent divorcee. It got quite graphic rather quickly and for quite some time, though it did manage to bring some storyline back into it. There are twists and turns all throughout the book that made a really interesting read that was difficult to put down. I enjoyed reading this book, though I would have liked to have seen more from Mason's perspective rather than seeing his perspective only a few times. Overall, a great read.

This is the first book in the Moondance Trilogy by debut author, Salem Archer and it is one of the best new romances that I have read this year. Her characters are real people that touch your heart and make you feel like you are a part of their lives. You will laugh, cry and feel so involved that you will not be able to put the book down until the last page is read.

Maggie Dupree cannot believe that her ex-husband was able to deceive her with his plans for their lives as a married couple. After only six months of unwedded bliss, her eyes were opened to his lies and the seed of discontent was planted. Now, four years later, she is finally free from his control and living her life the way she wanted too. Maggie knows now that she needs to pick up the dreams that Jake her ex had destroyed and find the path that she wants for her new life. Her first act of defiance was to purchase a car that her ex had sneered at, a Jetta. She loved driving her car and enjoyed taking it out and opening it up on the mountain roads around her home. A freak accident causes something extraordinary to happen, she meets a man that will change her life forever.

Mason Reid loves driving on the open mountain roads and is test driving a new car he wants to purchase when he comes across a woman that is like none he has ever met before. She is sitting on the roadside crying her eyes out because she hit a deer and when he stops to assist her, life changes for Mason. Mason has been a player and had a love them and leave them attitude until Maggie Dupree soaks his shirt with her tears. The best thing about Maggie is that she doesn’t know who he is and thinks he is just a regular guy, not the billionaire entrepreneur that he really is. Can she really want just the man and not the billionaire? Mason knows that he must tell Maggie about himself, but having her love him the man keeps him silent. Will Maggie accept both parts of Mason? Can she trust a man after the lies and deceit of her ex? When you read this beautiful love story you will find out!

Hero –Mason Reid 5 stars
Heroine –Maggie Dupree: 5 stars

Plot: 5 stars
Cliffhanger: Yes

Would I recommend this book: Yes! Author Salem Archer hits the ball out of the park with her debut novel Moondance in Red. This beautifully written novel shares the story of true love that is meant to be and will be regardless of the obstacles put in its path.

Would I read other books by this author: Yes! I look forward to the next novel that this author releases. She is an incredible writer with an extraordinary talent for creating real life stories.

I just knew from the first few pages I was going to love reading this story.
First we are introduced to Maggie, she comes across as a sad soul but that was not always how she used to be, once a carefree young woman who loved an adventure, being out in the open, she married too young and to the wrong man, he really did not deserve her, she wanted to be a good wife but you will understand why this is not possible when you meet Jake 'the husband' if you can call him that, he comes across as a very selfish man and I am in fact being polite when I only say selfish, you will know what I mean when reading the story.
You will meet some great characters but you know there is always one favourite and mine is Mason Reid, Oh God, yes he is a God, a total alpha male, he is like Maggie's knight in shining armour, sometimes hard to believe these men exist but no romance story is complete without secrets, secrets that can ruin a very good relationship especially when the first promise they make is to never lie to each other. I would love to tell you more about Maggie and Mason but I do not like giving out spoilers, what I will say is that this was a fantastic read, lots happening to keep you turning the page, the romance is beautiful. I will definitely recommend this book and will be reading more books from this Author in the future.
Thank you Salem Archer for a fantastic read.

Maggie Dupree believed that her husband, Jake, and her were in love. After 6 months of marriage, Jake changes .He wants her to stay at home all the time cooking and cleaning. Four years later, Maggie divorces Jake. Now Maggie can live her life the way she wants. The first thing she does is buy a car she has always wanted, a Jetta.

Mason Reed is a billionaire he likes to drive the open mountain roads to test out his cars that he is looking to buy. While on the road Mason comes across Maggie sitting on the grass crying because her car is messed up because she hit a deer. Mason is taken back with Maggie's foul mouth. She is different from all the other women Mason has been with.

This book was very interesting it kept me on my toes and wanting to read more. I couldn't put it down this book is very well written. I am going to tell all my book friends and family about this book. It is one book that I can read over and over again. I hope there will be a sequel to see where things go between these characters. I would definitely recommend this book!

Oh. My. God. The description of the book made it sound awesome but I could never have imagined how much I was going to love it!
The prologue starts while Maggie Dupree is married to Jacob Greene and she has discovered what a mistake she made marrying him. Chapter 1 starts 5 years later after her divorce. Her best friend Lauren has been trying to set her up with men for a while now but Maggie is not interested. Then she has a chance meeting on the side of the road. When Mason Reid comes to her aid there is an immediate attraction between them. When he tells her he wants to make her "come so hard you scream my name" she gets a thrill out of it but can't believe his arrogance. Mason hasn't lost heart though and Maggie won't regret screaming his name.
This book was hot! It was fun! It grabbed me and would not let go and I can't wait to start book 2!

Disclaimer: I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. The opinions I expressed are entirely my own.

Maggie Dupree is a spitfire. Life has given her some hard times, but Maggie kicks back with gusto. She's an endearing character I sympathized with and cared for immediately. She's smart mouthed, fast thinking, and some of her one line zingers are so funny I laughed out loud.

Mason Reid is every girl's dream. He's handsome, rich, and oh so sexy. The problem is, he wants to keep his money a secret, and that proves to be a problem for earning Maggie's trust.

The sex scenes sizzle off the pages in this smoking hot love story. I found myself smiling as I flipped the pages faster and faster. I couldn't put this book down and read it in one day. I'll happily read more books by this author.

Well done Salem! A fantastic read that I couldn’t seem to put down!

I fell in love with Maggie right away – a woman who’s endured a terrible marriage only to find the strength to start fresh. Maggie’s spunky personality is endearing and I found myself laughing out loud at times at her quirky sense of humour. And, then there’s Mason – the sexy billionaire protagonist who sweeps Maggie off her feet. Can you say HOT?! I love, love, loved these characters!

Definitely a must read to add to your TBR list!

Melissa works for Lee; Lee basically ignores Melissa until one day he doesn’t.  That’s when the trouble begins.  Lee cannot stay away from Melissa; Melissa realizes that her love for Lee knows no boundaries. Now they just have to make it work.

Linda Hopkins writes a well-developed paranormal romance story with characters that are believable and a story and dialog that flows smoothly.  Hopkins does not “gloss” over anything and handles a touchy situation very professionally.  Her characters are strong and richly cultivated.

There were at least a couple of places where I wanted to grab Melissa and shake her but … that is what makes this book good – the reader connects.

If you enjoy paranormal romance with adventure and danger, Moondance is the one to read!

Hmmm, I was totally counting on a guilty pleasure trilogy full of naughty scenes between Mr Moneybags and his chosen damsel. And then, in the second installment, the silly twat (aka the heroine) - after promising the hero of not running away again, does so after the first false alarm and construed and bad media drama. B for the first part, D- for the second, because I was so disappointed.

4 stars. Reviewed by Gemma on behalf of Your Next Hot Read

Hmmmm I never know where to begin with a review for a really good read, so I’ll start with that. This is a really good read lol. It has everything you could want in a romantic, sexy, hot read and then some. Leading lady and alpha male are both ticks. Steamy sex scenes are a tick. And a B*&%H with a capital B is a definite tick!

We meet Maggie Green when she is a newlywed and is just getting used to her blissful married life – or so she thinks. Jump ahead 5 years and Maggie Dupree is a divorcee and the talk of her small town. Married life was not what she expected and neither was her ex-husband. She’s had enough of being talked about and wants to stop the rumour mills but is happy being an independent woman.

Mason Reid is a billionaire (need I say more ladies – swoon) and after being hurt a few years ago, is set on having no relationships with women unless he can scratch that itch and then move on to the next. His money is the issue and as much as he loves having it, so do all the women he dates. He wants someone to love him for him but he is never going to find it – until Maggie.

When they meet, sparks fly and neither Maggie nor Mason can deny their instant attraction to each other. When they give in, they realise they have fallen for each other but happiness doesn’t last with lies from Mason and a past that neither of them can escape. What happens when the lies and pasts (and the B***H) catch up with them is heartbreaking for the pair but can they survive it?

I loved this book and the strong characters that Salem has created. Maggie is brilliant and her inner thoughts in the book made me chuckle so much. I love the way the author has written in little bits of humour as well as the sadness and darkness of people’s pasts. I love Maggie’s relationship with her Uncle Charlie and hope to see that blossom more in the other 2 books in the trilogy. Mason is definitely swoon worthy and earns the title of new book boyfriend quite easily in my opinion. His mother is so not what you expect and again I hope to see more of her in the other books. The only reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because I wanted more from Mason’s POV, especially in the latter stages of the book where the s**t hits the fan. I wanted desperately to know what he was thinking and I hope this is explained and developed in the next instalments which I will definitely be reading. Bring on book 2!

. I was asked to read for an honest review. This was a amazing read. Maggie finds love and marries the man of her dreams, or so she thought. Maggie soon realizes that the man she married is not the man she feel in love with, so she makes a promise to not trust a man again. Mason is a billionaire who wants to find love, but is afraid they will only want him for his money like in the past. These two meet on a mountain road my accident. Maggies car gets hit my not one but two deer, as she gets out to check the damage she see the deer and just breaks down to an ugly cry. Mason being the gentleman he is, when he sees her on the side of the road he stops to help. This is when the sparks start to fly, from this point neither one can get the other out of their mind. When they finally get together the sparks are out of this world and the sex omg the sex. Mason is a man who likes to talk during sex and the things he can say " You're still so wet baby. Give me your hand. I want you to feel this. Now, push between those puffy little lips and slide a finger inside of you." "Do it baby, I want to feel it. Do you feel what we did? Do you feel our juices mixed together inside of you?" Holy sh**. Mason is a walking sex machine, but not only the sex but the love these two have for each other is amazing. You have two people afraid to trust and love but together they are learning to do that. I sure hope this isn't the end for them I would love to have more. Salem Archer does a great job putting you in the book

Maggie Dupree is married and she couldn't be more bored with her life. Her husband want's her to stay at home, cook him meals, clean the house while he does nothing. She hates it. This is not what she wanted in her marriage. Sure she married young, but they are supposed to be equals.

Fast forward four years later, and she is divorced..

The first thing she decides to do with her new life, is buy a car she dreamed of having, a Jetta.

But it quickly goes down hill with her new happiness.

She ends up hitting a deer with her new car, and breaks down, letting her emotions get the best of her.

But in walks in her savior Mason.

He is a billionaire, and loves his cars. One of his favorite past times is driving on the open road, with his sports cars.

But one day, he see's a beautiful women, crying in the grass.

He stops and asks what happened.

This point right here will change the lives of both Mason and Maggie.

Maggie is so different from the other women Mason spends his time with. She is fun, witty and has a smart mouth that he can't help but love.

Moondance in Red was a great read. The romance between Maggie and Mason was adorable. Little twists and turns, but all in all it was really good. Never read from Salem Archer, and I will read more from her. Cant wait to see what comes next in the Moondance Trilogy.
