Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic

I hadn’t set foot in the human world for more than a few hours in over three and a half months. Sure, I was stronger and faster than I’d ever been before, and I had a shiny new sword, but I was seriously chocolate deprived. I don’t recommend quitting cold turkey. And the new sword was a problem — to my mind, anyway. It represented all the expectations of a powerful father and a new otherworldly life. A life that wasn’t the one I’d worked so hard to build. It also represented the responsibility I had to bring my foster sister Sienna to … what? Justice? I didn’t know if that was even possible. What I did know was that Sienna wouldn’t stop, and that I couldn’t just leave everything up to fate and destiny … or maybe I was. Maybe I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. If you believed in that sort of thing.
I just hoped that before the chaos and mayhem renewed, I’d manage to get my hands on some chocolate. It didn’t even have to be single-origin Madagascar. I was utterly prepared to lower my standards.

***3.5***

I liked it, but... I'm a little put off by the relationship development. Or non-development, as it may be. These three books have been a pretty steady slow-burn towards a relationship with Desmond, even though there are obvious complications. But then in this book, he's barely present... But okay. When he comes into the story finally, things pick up where they left off, the slow burn finally getting where it's going. And then... I obviously don't know where the next book is going, but something about this just feels like it completely pulled the plug. In a baffling way.

So I liked it, but I didn't love it. I liked the overall resolution. I liked Drake. I liked that her relationship with her Gran and mom seems to be growing. I liked her father and most of the dragons. I like that she seems to be getting her shit together, a handle on her magic and a better understanding of the magical world.

I'm not going to comment on how 3 months of training with dragons apparently turned her into Kate Daniels with that sword, charging into a demon horde and lopping off heads left and right. La, la, not going to comment.

I'll be reading on though, because overall I like the series a lot. Just miffed on the romantic development.

I liked it better this time through. Maybe because I knew what was coming with Desmond, so it didn't feel like such a rug pull. I'd still argue it's not a great choice, though. I've invested 3 books worth of time in the slow build of the relationship between them. It feels like a waste of time and emotional energy to just have it fall apart now.

I think it's even worse because, and I really want to stress this, Desmond did not do anything wrong. Sienna is a mass murderer who has been sentenced to death for her crimes. Jade can't bring herself to kill her, and that's fine. it's her sister. I think most of us couldn't do it. But she blocked other people Sienna had victimized from doing it, and that's not her fucking call. She has killed multiple members of Desmond's pack, including his second, and so Desmond killed her after Jade blocked the necromancers (and I'd argue that Jade should get a punch in the tit for blocking Mory's mom - Sienna killed that woman's son, and ATE HIM to steal his magic. And then tried to do the same with her 15 year old daughter, but was unsuccessful, so she just tortured the girl for 3 months. No one had more right to Sienna's death than that woman.)

So it's hard to spend 3 books getting emotionally invested in a male lead, only for the female lead to kick him to the curb in a snit when he did nothing wrong. When, arguably, SHE did wrong by trying to keep her sister from her well-earned, legally sanctioned death.

But this time through, I was less pissed at it because I wasn't shocked by it, and so it didn't completely trump my feelings about the rest of the book. I'd revise my original rating to 4 stars, because I quite like the story.

It's here, it's here!

Last night I baked cupcakes in honor of the release of book 3. I shared most of them. But not all. :-P

...............................

So, I kind of screwed myself over on this one. I actually finished it quite a while ago (I seriously started reading it right after it was released). Unfortunately I had a lot of other commitments at the time, including some book commitments for clubs etc., so I wasn't able to read this without interruption from other stories. I think this is a large part of why I didn't connect to this book as much as previous ones - stopping and starting makes that difficult.

It's been a while, but I do recall that I enjoyed the ending more than the beginning/middle, feeling more interested and (re)invested by then. Still enjoying this series a lot and will be reading book 4 when it comes out. (With my lesson learned- read it uninterrupted.)

Loved it. I thought for a minute there that this could have been a trilogy but its not. Thanks goodness. A lot happened in this book and while I could write everything i might leave something out but this was by far the best yet and gladly there is more to come.

OK, I may not be in the mood for this such a slow burning romance. I do get the development of the character is important, and I see the author is trying to make a Lizzie Grace, or Kate Daniels...well she is strong...but it does feel like she should have a supporting character by now, and yea there is Kandy...but still just too slow 🐌 for me.
I am at that point I can leave this world and be okay with what I left behind. A series, I'm not beating my brain down wondering what happens, but I am invested enough to want to visit later.

I do love Jade develops into her strengths, and still struggles to believe in herself, but still hopes for the best, even in the darkest of people. I love the humour, and I want to love the MMCs, but I'm not even sure they are MMCs anymore.
But the family characters develop in this book, to a point I worry about them when it seems bleak. So that's something from the last book that did frustrate me.

There are heart-wrenching moments, and it's really because I'm so invested in Jade, and it hurts when she hurts. So, the character is strong enough for that link. But no spicy smut, and the second book teases way too much for not even a little touchy smut.

Basically, it all seems slow, romance, familiar relationship, magic.... I think this is a series where you need to be in a slow burn stamina type mood. I am not in that mood, but it's still worth coming back to when I am. And the fact I need a mood to devour this world is a good thing in my mind. It means it has the strength to park in my mind and come back to.

4.5 Stars... I really enjoyed this read from start to finish... The entire story seems to amp up in this addition to the series; Jade has spent three months in the dragon nexus absorbing all the information she can and training for the battle to come with her sister... Once back on the earthly realm, Jade reunites with old friends and new allies, and the action packed adventure begins culminating in an epic war with the convergence of all supernatural entities... Jade appears to start coming into her own self in this read; she demonstrates more confidence and trust in herself... There are still moments of vulnerability and maybe even naivety, but Jade seems to bounce out of those instances rather quickly... Looking forward to seeing where the romance aspect of this series will lead with the dramatic shifts between Jade and her leading men... Truly a captivating story that I am eager to continue:)

Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic - Dowser #3 - Meghan Ciana Doidge

The envious die not once, but as oft as the envied win applause. - Baltasar Gracian

Like hatred, jealousy is forbidden by the laws of life because it is essentially destructive. - Alexis Carrel

I hadn’t set foot in the human world for more than a few hours in over three and a half months. So begins the third in the Dowser series by Meghan Ciana Doidge, one of the better Urban Fantasy series I have found. Creativity and depth define the works of Ms. Doidge in all of her stories, but especially in the Dowser series.

If you haven’t yet read Cupcakes, Trinkets and Other Deadly Magic, or Trinkets, Treasures and Other Bloody Magic, you can still read Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic – but why would you want to read the one without the others? They are, in a word, wonderful. In my review of Cupcakes I said; “Jade is a sweetheart. A nice young half witch, half human (maybe. . . ) with a nasty tempered foster sister, a wild earth witch grandmother, and a cupcake bakery. A very popular cupcake bakery with a reputation for 'magical' tasting cupcakes. She has a quiet life, happy with her baking, her trinket making and her quiet, apparently fulfilling life.

Then, of course, things change. And not in a nice way. Poor Jade. Life will never be the same. Apparently she isn't who she thought she was. But then, who is she?

Since then, Jade’s life has become so very much more than it was, and she is so more than she ever expected to become. And not all of it makes her terribly happy. Will she, and her friends, ever be safe again?

We rejoin Jade’s story in book three as she reenters our world through a magical portal from the reality of the Dragon Guardians, protectors of the earth and heavens, where she has been training for the last three and a half months. Three and a half months spent preparing to kill her psychotic, blood witch sister, Sienna. It is Jade’s intention to find and kill the wicked witch (yea, yea, I know, but I couldn’t resist…) all on her own.
Only things don’t exactly go according to plan. She is followed from the portal by Drake, a thirteen-year-old fledgling Guardian, alternately cocky and wise beyond his years. A trip to the castle of the sorcerer Blackwell results in terrifying news, and the addition to her little group of Jade’s best friend Kandy, a green-haired werewolf, and Kettil, or Kett, Executioner of the Conclave of Vampires, who Jade is linked to through a life debt.

Many things happen in this third novel, as the search for Sienna comes to a head. New alliances are made, old friends are lost, new ones gained, and the war may be won, or lost, on whether old alliances can be regained.

Once again, Meghan does a fabulous job of telling a compelling story of love and power, life and death, and the strength and weakness of family. This is a great story, and is high on my list of best loved reads!

Note: I am proofreader for Meghan’s works. I received a copy for proofreading from Meghan, and write this review based upon that copy. No matter – this is still one of the best Urban Fantasy series with strong, well-written heroines on the Urban Fantasy scene today. Highly recommended!

Jade made have found out that she’s half-witch, and half something else, but she still hasn’t found a way to deal with her crazy half-sister Sienna.
Is Jade’s training enough to dead with Sienna? And how many more must die before she is stopped?

This was a good third instalment in this urban fantasy series, and I am still lusting after those cupcakes!

Jade was once again strong in this book. She’d obviously put a lot of time and effort into training in an effort to stop her sister Sienna from destroying the world, even going so far as to *gasp* go without chocolate for three and a half months!!

The storyline in this was good, and I liked the action. I liked Jade’s new found talents and the way she had learned to use them, and even though we didn’t see many of them, the cupcakes sounded delicious!
There was a touch of romance, and one little romantic tryst, there wasn’t a lot of it though, and this book wasn’t really about the romance.

The ending was good, and I liked the way we finally saw the end of Sienna! I have a feeling we haven’t seen the end of Jade yet though.
Overall; another great instalment in this urban fantasy series,
7 out of 10.

Review:
This was the book in the series that really hooked me. Obviously I was enjoying the series or I wouldn't have continued reading/listening, but this was the one where it went from good to great for me. So far, every book in this series has had a great plot, building intensity, a bit of humor, and a really cool world and magic system involving all sorts of supernatural creatures. But the characters have grown on me more and more with each book. I love that Jade is feminine and emotional yet still kickass when she needs to be (even if I still have a couple issues with her). I love the friendships she's formed with Candy and Kett. And gosh I love Kett. I know I'm always partial to vampires, but he's been the most interesting character to me from the start, and he's only gotten more interesting as he's gotten more human. I've also gotten more used to the audio narration, so that doesn't bother me much anymore. To be honest, I do wonder if I might enjoy these books even more if I were to read them instead of listen to the audio. Anyway, this is a great urban fantasy series that I'm really enjoying!

I loved this book, it picked up where the second stopped and had me hooked! The connections and emotional development of each character was already so solid and now we get an even closer look into their lives. I love the laugh out loud moments that catch me by surprise and esp. the deep desire and crave for chocolate, lol. This book was a much more emotional and personal journey for all the characters making it my fave of the three.
This is one of my favorite series and I hope that it continues.

To me, this is the best in the series so far. What I liked most were the layers of complexity in the characters and the relationships between the characters themselves, so much so that I forgot to be on the lookout for plot holes. I really liked that the relationships between Jade and her friends and allies are just as strong and important to the story as the potential budding relationship between she and Desmond.

Jade's not a bad main character. I like the fact that she's constantly learning and progressing. She's not perfect but she's strong and gaining self confidence without becoming overbearing. I was really glad that Pearl finally made an appearance and had more page time than in the previous books. I really like the developing relationship between she and Jade and Scarlett.

I really do hope that the Sienna storyline is truly over, I thought the way it ended was rewarding and satisfying but emotional as well, and I'm angry at what Desmond did. I think Jade would have done the right thing and needed just a few moments to gather herself and process that it was truly the end before dealing the final blow. Sienna wasn't going anywhere. And it wasn't like he got caught up in the moment either, he stated, quite plainly that it was always going to be him, Sienna had murdered members of his pack. It was completely selfish and revealed a self important dominating aspect to his personality that I didn't like. Yes he did have an argument, but so did everyone else gathered there. Sienna didn't murder his pack members exclusively, all the other groups had suffered and lost someone at her hands as well, and she was Jade's sister and a witch and therefore it was up to the witches and Jade to mete out the final justice. Had he truly believed that it was going to be too hard for Jade and that he was doing what he thought she needed him to do then I would be singing a completely different song right now. But he made that statement of entitlement and so I'm glad Jade walked away. It's going to take quite a conversation and plenty of atonement before I can ever ship the two of them again.

As much as I enjoyed this, there were some things that I didn't like. There were a few times when Jade's friends were somewhat shitty to her and I couldn't get just exactly what it was that they were so mad about and that was annoying. Also, the first half of the book was kind of slow. There were moments here and there that kept it from actually dragging but when compared to the second half of the book I found it lacking. There is an overabundance of food scenes usually involving chocolate and it's really hard to read this without developing a serious craving. And finally, there is a lot of magic in this book and I don't think it's always adequately explained. Still, nothing so serious as to keep me from wanting to read the rest of the series.

Book 2 left me worried for so many of Jade's friends. I found out about all I was worried about in this book.

Jade sneaks out from training on a rest day and the whole mission takes on a life of it's own from there. We bump into friends and find out who needs saving and where.

After the ending of book 2 and where we go in this book, I'd feel emotionally beat up if I was Jade. What she sees from Sienna (that girl should not be as strong as she is! Dang! I totally get the draw to the dark side) in what she does to people, and Jade's friends. It's looking like there's no getting ahead of Sienna or defeating her. But I'm glad Jade compartmentalizes and keeps going to do her best to get to Sienna. There's a lot to the dark magic side that we get to see.

Jade is still learning about her abilities and herself too. Her heritage is unique and I love the characters we meet with that heritage.

The arc of Sienna does come to a close here and how they deal with the debt bond between Jade and Desmond.

Where will things go from here? I feel Jade has some trauma healing to do along with figuring out what she wants to do, of course bake cupcakes but more too. We have a few spin off series with characters that come into contact with Jade and Jade has more in her future too. I look forward to listening to them all.

If the person you loved most in the world turned evil, truly evil, could you kill them?

Jade Godfrey grew up with her grandmother, a mostly absent mother, and her foster sister, Sienna. Jade and Sienna were best friends as well as sisters. As detailed in the last two books of the series, Sienna has embraced the dark side with some extra dark side while Jade has learned she isn't the weakling she always thought she was. Jade knows what has to happen, but she still yearns for her sister and hopes to save her. Is it possible? Can she?

Read the first two books in order before this one. This third book complete the story arc as the battle of good and evil plays out between sisters. And there's cupcakes....

Okay i was bored with this one, it lacked the coziness of book one and two. This book was mostly war and drama. Also up until the end of this book all of this story is based on the cluelessness of Jade and co. Cluelessness of book one.

Jade is back with her chocolate goodness! And oh boy what a delicious treat is Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic. The Dowser has become one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series, if you haven't read it yet, I don't know what you are waiting for, start reading this series today!

->Every time I read this series, I feel like I need to have cupcakes nearby, and chocolate, loads of chocolate...

->Warning! This review contains certain sensitive information, and may be a spoiler if you haven't read book 1&2, please think carefully before you continue reading this review.

Poor Jade, she just can't catch a break. When Jade return after three month and a half training with the dragons, she only have one thing in mind. Hunt down her sister, otherwise known as psycho Black Witch to the Others. With the help of her green-hair werewolf bestfriend/protector, Kandy, her vampire friend/mentor/or whatever he is to Jade, Kette. And her overactive, possible ADD fledgling Dragon companion, Drake. You would think this mission might be littler easier for Jade, WRONG!

It seem no matter what Jade does, she is always one step behind her evil, psycho foster sister. Even when she have a plan she somehow ended up making more mistakes then she intended.

->I wouldn't say Jade is badass yet, she is still in training after all. But as a half-witch and half-something else (censor for those who haven't read book 2), Jade is no doubt unique and would be quite powerful in the near future. I love reading about Jade's magic, I think it's neat and refreshing. Badass or not, Jade kick-butts in this book!

->I felt really bad for Jade in this book, it seem all of her friends were quite harsh on her.

Jade made a decision to stay behind the Dragon Nexus, in order to avoid all her love ones ended up dead in Sienna's hands. Her strength and magic were simply not strong enough, and she needed the training to be prepare. It seem some may not understand Jade's absence. Now, what's interesting is Jade actually left the Dragon Nexus early, well she actually sneak out. Does this mean she will be returning to the Nexus and continue her training?

->Jade has a good heart, maybe too good. She need to become mentally and emotionally stronger in order to survive the magic world. Or just eat loads of chocolate and bake plenty of cupcakes (I think this would work out pretty well too).

Sienna on the other hand, I did not feel bad for her at all. She is after all quite murderous, arrogant, power hunger, full of envy and you know pure evil.

->very happy about how this ended, though I am positive Jade disagreed. But I don't have any complaints.

Compare to the the first two books, this book is much darker, there are more dead and more friends will be hurt. Jade will be force on making decisions in order to save all her love ones, and you know everyone else. I thought the pace of this book was great, how the story unfold was solid and very well written. Each part in Jade's journey on finding her foster sister were full of actions. The anticipation lead up to the ending battle definitely kept me on edge. This book continue with strong world building, and characters developments. I thoroughly enjoy reading this book.

So, there were interesting developments on Jade and Kette...

->Kette is definitely growing on me, I am quite intrigue on Kette. I am interested to learn more about him (yeah, can you tell I am a fan?).

->Anyone else like Drake? He is quite a character, I hope we see more of him in the future.

->Not enough of Desmond in this book!! (sad)

However, when Desmond do appear in the book, I was totally hang up on it. I love the chemistry he has with Jade, and how he trusts Jade and supports her in this book. Jade also confide in Desmond when she was too afraid and guilty to tell the others. I love their connection and relationship. But I am not sure what will happen to them now, and I can't help but to remember the warning Kandy keep giving Jade. But I am still keeping positive thoughts though (one can only hope).

I wonder what waits for Jade in the next book, I can't wait!

I highly recommend this series to those who enjoy Urban Fantasy genre.

Happy reading!

I just hoped that before the chaos and mayhem renewed, I’d manage to get my hands on some chocolate. It didn’t even have to be single-origin Madagascar. I was utterly prepared to lower my standards.

Thus begins book 3 of the Dowser Series by the ever talented and always highly chocolatinated, Meghan Ciana Doidge. (Chocolatinated may not be a real word, but I guarantee Ms Doidge is quite often close to being over chocolinated...not that that is a bad thing.) Treasures, Demons and Other Black Magic is quite different from the previous 2 books, in that it is ACTION PACKED....like practically nonstop action from the moment you start reading. Our cupcake baking, chocolate craving half witch and her friends not only use magic to do battle, but swords, knives, fists You see our heroine, Jade, must find and defeat her foster sister, Sienna, who has taken to practicing black magic, which leads to murder and demon summoning and that's never a good thing.

Jade returns to the human world after 3 months of training with her father and his other, we will call them cohorts, because calling them anything else would be....spoilers. She is again joined with her friends Kandy, a werewolf, the vampire Kett, her mother and grandmother, of course, potential love interest and shape shifter, Desmond and a host of other Adept. We, also, meet 13 year old, Drake who has is own special ability, but again....I can't go into detail without ruining things for you.

With Jade's newfound abilities and the training she has received we enjoy some fun new moments in Jade kicking ass and taking names, but we still learn that, like nearly all people with and without special powers, she still needs her friends to help her out from time to time. And even with this help we start to question if it's enough. Will Jade be able to defeat her sister and the demons she is summoning and how many will die in order for this to happen? These question and more will be answered in the latest Dowser book, Treasures, Demons and Other Black Magic.

This series is a lot of fun to read, oh, and do yourself a favor, have some chocolate on hand, because you're doing to be craving it. Trust me!

I thought in the last book Jade had come into her own and would eventually become the strong willed heroine everyone wanted. That spending time with her father in the Nexus would change her for the better. It didn't. Three months have passed since book two, and Jade has decided to traveled back to the human world to find Blackwell, and her bloodthirsty foster sister.

All of my hopes for the MC's potential flew right out the window anytime Sienna came into the picture. Jade has never been the brightest bulb in the box, but it's really just getting to the point of being exhausting reading about how she still has some hope for the Voldemort wannabe.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Jade still hopes that she can save her psychotic sister. After torturing and killing people, she still believes that her sister can be saved. Ugh... Jade is TSTL. In all honesty, if Jade was killed off in these books, I don't think I'd care at all. The other characters in the book are rather likeable though.

Well minus, Sienna. I'm not a fan of evil villains and their predictable mustache twirling. She is as terribly lame as Jade is painfully stupid. Everyone else was pretty cool. I would say more about the plot but it's just the same old rehashed bit; find and eradicate the enemy. Sure there is some cool demon stuff that happens but that's to be expected.

I also don't understand all the smooching going on. Since when did the characters become kiss crazy? I have looked far ahead into the series so I know how things are going to go. There will be no fruition! All this lip locking just seems like a drama layering scheme for future installments. Bleh!

Kett is overall my favorite character in this series. I love that blood sucker! This book, however, belongs completely to Desmond. Holy crap! That werecat gets things done! I didn't care about him at all before, but he has earned my respect. Unlike a certain pathetic baker...

Anyways, this entire series is basically utter poop. Why do I keep going you ask? Well, I kinda like the side characters as they are fun, and I also do reading challenges that occasionally call for me to read a book with something sweet on the cover.

I can't say that I would ever recommend these books to anyone. Ever. But if you are a fan of this series, just know that the Desmond awesomeness is coming. His, and Kett's appearances in this story are the only reason I gave the novel two stars. Other than the side characters, Doidge's writing recipe stinks. Beware the poor plot weaving, predictability, and juvenile villain cackling. Something stupid this way comes.

Reread

In this one we see Jade go up against Sienna yet again. We also get to see Jade progress further and further in her magic skills. Those cupcakes just keep getting better and better.

'“With or without the bond, I’ll always be able to find you, Jade Godfrey,” he whispered against my lips, answering my unasked question.'

Lets get this out of the way... Jade and Kett were so cute in this one!! Roll on the next book I can't wait to see what happens next! Theres one more book in my reread and then its on to the books I haven't read in this series <3.

Anyway, I really enjoyed seeing the relationships develop between all the characters. I love all of them. I can't wait to see whats next for this crew. I hope we get to see more of Jade's mum and dad and see how they are together.

2015: 5 Stars

Yeah, all I had to do was get through a horde of demons, overcome Sienna's defenses and kill my sister. Easy as freaking pie.

Okay here goes. These books just keep getting better and better. The authors writing skills obviously improve as we go on but I am also getting more and more involved with the characters. I have one book left to read of this series and Kett and Jade aren't together yet, grr. I'm not going to dwell on this all the way through I promise.

I love the characters in this series and we are being introduced to more and more of them all the time. The author is so good at character building that if you really wanted too you feel as though they could step out of the book to greet you.

However. I will be much happier once I have my happy ending...

I am so in love with this series I almost can't stand it. I don't think she can write them fast enough to satisfy my intense craving for the world, the main character Jade, the lore...all of it. This one was so very good. All the good things: epic fights, battles between sisters...which made me cry along with Jade, by the way...watching Jade come into her power, the entire concept of dragons, which should be enough for anyone right there because, dragons! This story has it all, plus cupcakes! And who doesn't love cupcakes? No one, that's who.

This was an adventure that I could NOT put down and left me wanting more more more more more. I'll have to make do with chocolate for now, but...write faster! :-D

Loved the third installment in the series, it picked up were it left off in book two. Loved that this was all substance and no smut (not that I wasn't thinking of MCGrowly in the naughty way), this was all about the story and what a story it is.

See I get migraines from Chocolate so this series was hard for an ex-chocolate addict seeing all the good chocolate bars that she picked up along the way. And don't even get me started on all the wonderful Cupcakes she made through out the whole series..

4 Stars

"I sure as hell don't know who I actually am yet-"
"That's easy. You're Jade. You're cupcakes, trinkets, and deadly magic."

Those two line basically describe Jade's life up through this book. She is still finding out who she is and what she is capable of. Plus finding out the same one all other adepts.
I like how this story is progressing and I'm going on to book four now.

I have loved these books, I think they're fun, easy to read, and entertaining. That being said this was my least favorite. Nothing happened. A hot guy comes in (again) and barely anything happens (again) and while I love that the female lead isn't a sappy whiney girl like most in novels, she is throwing herself a 2 book long pity party. I hope the next book is better.

A tall blonde has secret magic powers and she's kind of dumb and might have sex with a werewolf. It's fun and you don't have to take it any more seriously than it takes itself. I listened to it on tape and it takes place in Canada, but the narrator can't pronounce, "Eh" so I got to feel superior.

I really enjoyed this series. Jade can kick butt with the best of them. The action never stopped and the characters were great

I'm liking the supporting characters more and more. Some of the author's mannerisms like what sound like product placement can be pretty tiresome.

A little formulaic and wooden compared to earlier ones in the series. The author is deteriorating I think.

I had to reread books 1 and 2 first because I felt sooooo clueless during the first chapter 😅
That said, I'm really happy I did, just to rediscover all the characters and why this series deserved to be on my favorites list.

Book 3 is actually the conclusion to the first major arc in the series, which in my opinion, was pretty damn strong!

Jade has been training with the dragon guardians for the last 3 months, haunted by the vision the seer has shown her. Slipping away to take care of some loose ends and finding her sister, she starts with a trip to Scotland to visit the powerful sorcerer Blackwell. However, Jade finds she's not quite as alone in her task as she thought. Drake, a fledgling guardian, has sneaked out after her, and even Kandy and Kett are nearby.
When she finds clues about where Sienna might be and what she's up to, it's a race against time to stop her. If that is even possible...

I love the characters in this series! They are so diverse. We have withes, sorceres, necromancers, shifters, vampires, dragons, demons... you name it, the series has it! The one thing most of them have in common is they all love chocolate, or, well... Jade's yummy cupcakes, at least!
They are well fleshed out and have their individual quirks and personalities.
I'm looking forward to reading more about them in the following installments!

As I've said, I read books 1 and 2 before starting on this one, and it went by quickly! The book pulls you in and takes you along for the ride. The only thing you can do is hold on (and have some chocolate, of course).

The book is well-written and told from Jade's point of view.
While there is a romantic undertone, you can consider it more a side note than anything else at this point in the series (though I really hope one of the guys gets lucky :D)

If you want to read an excellent urban fantasy with a chocoholic heroine and a bevy of other supernaturals? Pick this one up!
