Here I am hard at work on my next story.

Let me tell you a little about myself. Twenty years ago, I wrote my first book just to see if I could do it. The novel occupied space on my bookshelf, unread for nearly twenty years until, one day while in a cleaning frenzy, I considered disposing of the neatly stacked but now age-yellowed pages. As I began to read the long forgotten work, I was surprised to discover that the story was enjoyable! Editing and retyping the first book provided a new sense of accomplishment and additional tales followed. Completion of This is Fitting encouraged me to write four more romance novels. I Love My Life and Sunset Island were followed by Awaiting My Assignment and its sequel, Anything Your Heart Desires. One Day Longer Than Forever is now complete and in the hands of first readers before the first big edit.

Now retired, there is all the time in the world to write. I live on the east coast with my partner of twenty-eight years. Because we love a challenge, we provide a loving home for two spoiled cats instead of a dog! In addition to writing, any spare time is devoted to reading, mastering new computer programs, and socializing with friends. (from the author's website)

Maybe it's just me but I am just not enjoying this author's writing style. Along with too much telling and not enough showing she draws conclusions for the reader rather than letting the reader draw their own.
I don't need to be told a relationship failed because one partner was so closeted that the couple had no mutual friends. Yeah. I can figure that out myself.
Once again there is little conflict to ramp up the drama. Even when characters are breaking up they remain polite and cordial and one dimensional.
Just not feeling the love for One Day Longer than Forever. I've read better FanFic.

I have read all of AJ’s books, and this is a definite departure, both from the “Friends” series and her usual writing style. It is a book in sections, the first portion is a back-history, the second is an accidental vacation and the third is the meat of the romance. Along with the story line the writing style changes as well, past and present are written using different methods and have quite different tone, making the whole seem disjointed.

To be honest i found the first section of the book hard work. I don’t mind the split storyline or the back-history, but the lives of our two main protagonists was described not lived. It felt like an extended plot outline. I found the descriptions passionless, I didn't engage or get involved with the characters. The was too much detail and not enough feeling.

The middle deals with an accidental holiday romance, and as such was fine. Gradually the characters start living their lives in this section rather than the author telling us them. And yet the passions were still not engaged. There is a huge elephant in the room but every time it is glanced at we are shied away - removing the tension and drama in favour of a sweet vacation fling.

And then the drama kicks in, and finally our heroines are riddled with angst. Both want desperately, but neither will give, based on trust and history and fear. And finally we can engage. But actually the final third is an ongoing repetition of that single angst, the elephant is not only visible it is the only story. There is no other development or plot line and the resolution, when it finally comes, seems too easy, too pat, and driven by an overly dramatic response to a fairly common medical condition.

Sunset Island is one of my favourite Trad Romances of the last few years and i have enjoyed the other books in the Friends series. But this was a struggle. At half way I considered quitting and am glad I persevered, as it got better. By the end I was engaged and liked the characters. But this one missed the mark for me. Too much description and not enough feeling, too much unnecessary detail without enough adjectives, never really captured my imagination.

I usually don't do this, but I had to stop reading. The author's writing style grated on my nerves in such a way I refused to continue. There was some weird tendency to repeat everything (the words "large animal veterinarian" were there 8+ times on one page, we understood it the first time around) and stating the obvious ("... I volunteer at the refuge center a few hours a week where we provide services to sick animals." What else would a bunch of veterinarians do at a refuge center?)

I wanted to like this book along with Lee and Kate. The story about long distance relationships is real life stuff. The story did not flow well, appeared stiff and there was too much telling. Lee and Kate were likable characters you wanted to cheer for but I just could not connect.

The premise of this book worked well. Not just another 'two women stuck in a cabin in the woods in the depths of winter - will they work it out' story. A J is a great story teller.

This was OK, I didn't *not* like it. I liked the second chances "is it too late for love?" vibe from the older main characters. It wasn't anything special though. Reading of all the missed chances at love was interesting; I've never seen a book devote almost as much time to the two main characters' past relationships that didn't work out as to the current one that's the subject of the book. It was very much like BEING on a lesbian first date - hearing all of the details and the "why wasn't your ex the one (is it possible that I am)?" aka "what's wrong with you that you're single at this age?" before diving straight into long-term commitment.

This felt like it was written in the 90's or early 2000's, or maybe even earlier - 80's? in a weird way. It reads like it's from a different (if I say simpler will I sound like a boomer, even though I am GenX?) time, when the worst thing to fear was what people would think if you came out, but also in that golden couple of decades when people were actually more accepting than not, or didn't actually even care as long as you weren't screaming at them? Being gay wasn't trendy or edgy nor was it going to get you arrested or killed (any longer), lesbians could find one another relatively easily, and all we were fighting for was to be allowed to get married.

Okay Story

First let me start with saying loved when Kate and Lee finally met and fell for one another. Now I will say why I really was annoyed, why your Kate stay with someone so long?. Max didn't want to be around anyone just wanted to stay home and you put up with this for 8years.

Seems like an outline

I'm enjoyed the book and the plot but with the way this book was written, you don't really connect with any of the characters in the book. The necessary plot points were there but for some reason this book just seemed... sterilized for lack of a better word. It was just lacking in an emotional level.

Enjoyed the characters (Kate and Lee) very much. The story was good, but I didn't find it as good as other books by the author. I still recommend it and like it, just not as much as "Sunset Island" or "The Interim".
