Pros:
The first 2 to 3 books are beautiful.
The characters like Zed are fresh and amazing making it worth reading just to see them progress. The protagonist are likable enough to cheer for.
The world is created beautifully with very few apparent loopholes in the basic structure. It is almost impossible to stop reading after you start.
The language is nice clean and engaging.

Cons:
The love story between Richard and Kahlan is predictable. Richard: "Oh she has green eyes and long beautiful hair, she must be the love of my life".
After the third it is a pain to read and I found myself skipping pages and pages of unimaginative dialogue and repeated action. Richard ad Kahlan are in love and Zed has a huge appetite, yup we get it.
Almost every female character either gets beaten up or raped.
We never ever see Richard in his best magical potential as he is always crippled somehow or the other( And does anyone ever sleep in this series ?)
There is an entire book dedicated only and only to tell you about the past of the various characters which is not very deep to begin with.
Oh and all the books have gripping endings except the last one because at that point Terry has no more books continuation of the story left. Smart Terry, very smart.

P.S.
In addition, if I wanted preaching this bad I would have been reading Aesop's Fables.

Conclusion: This is the classic example of an author stretching a series of good few books into a humongous boring series for money.
Being the fantasy addict I am this was a huge disappointment. (And yes Terry is a fantasy author whether he wants to admit it or not)

Having spent hours reading the entire series of 11 books I really wanted to add more good points but. However, because once you read one or 2 it is impossible to stop without knowing how it all ends(Yes, despite the books being standalone), I suggest don't even start it because it will only lead to hours of frustration.

It's a shame...this series started off good, and turned into utter trash.

If you want to save yourself some suffering, and feel you absolutely need to read it, do yourself a favor and just pretend only the first book exists. Maybe the second and third. You really don't need to read more than one book, since it's the same themes and scenarios every time. Hero is captured/crippled/sick, and has to escape/heal/recover at the 11th hour to defeat the big bad. Along the way: capture, torture, rape.

But hey, maybe you really want a series that combines torture porn with repetitive, shallow moral objectivist screeds yelled directly into your face. If so, boy are you in for a treat!

Very good fantasy series and very easy reading. Some of the middle of the series books drag on a little, but good conclusion to the story and excellent character development.

Great story. I gave it four stars because some of the story lines get a bit tedious. Faith of the fallen is, by far, my favorite book in the series. It's just so beautifully written and you get an idea of how people would live in a communist country, lead by a tyrant. It's very sad. I don't read the physical books because I work long hours in a job that allows me to wear earphones all day so I listen to the audio books. Nick Swanson is the best narrator but he stops reading the books around the 11th in the series and you end up with random people who didn't care enough about the material to try and find out how the names should be pronounced. You lose all the passion Nick put into reading the series up to that point. Accents that had been consistent are lost. Main characters and major cities are pronounced different. It's really obvious that the people narrating just dont care about things like that and i find it incredibly disrespectful to the material and terry goodkind. I'm struggling through the last two books but I will get through. Over all I love the series and have grown attached to the characters. Finishing it will be sad but I'm excited to find a new series and start in on some new adventures.

I started this series with the chainfire trio.
I fell in live with this series and went back and started from the start.
If I started book 1, I don't think I would give this series 5 stars as it's a bit repetitive but chainfire and the two books that follow and then with Law of Nines.... 4 of my fav books

Awful series. First few books are okay, until you realize the author straight up ripped off wheel of time and added weird rapey dominatrix stuff. Finished the series only because I'm a masochistic completionist. A fan asked the author about the similarities between this series and WoT and he told his fan if he thought that, he just didn't understand the series...

Excellent series from start to finish; however, it does start to slow down with the last few books. That is most likely because I binge read them all in about a month's time, so it seemed to get very repetitive. Besides that, I would highly recommend the series.

The series that started my adult fantasy reading.
In summary, Harry Potter for adults, with lots of trigger warnings.
Before SJM appeared, there was Terry Goodkind and the Sword of Truth series.
Brandon Sanderson-like world building, with much more satifying romance.
The OG romantasy.

Male protagonist, zero to hero, against all odds, advertisty, a little mystery and romance ... it ticks all the boxes for me.

I absolutely love these books. The world that good kind created is full of magic and terror and the story is an epic adventure with love and heartbreak. It's beautiful and very addictive.
