Marc Tolon Brown is perhaps best known for his series of children's books about Arthur the aardvark, which was turned into an animated television show on PBS. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for his role on the television show inspired by his books.
He lives on Martha's Vineyard and in New York City with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. He has three children, sons Tolon and Tucker, and daughter Eliza. The names of his two sons have been hidden in all of the Arthur books except for one: Arthur's Tooth.
Arthur and his family learn that puppies are a lot of work. They are very cute. All the hijinks of a puppy ensue in these pages. It's very cute and I think children would love this book.
It's interesting to see the change the artwork goes through for Arthur and his nose. It's much shorter and cuter here, but I think it gets even more round.
I enjoyed this book because it shows that kids are capable of showing responsibility even at a young age. Additionally, Arthur is a familiar face and one of my favorite books to read as a kid. The illustrations are very detailed and colorful! The story line is colorful as well. Most kids want a pet, but do not understand that having a pet is a huge responsibility. This book displays a positive way to develop responsibility in a silly manner thanks to D.W's jokes.
I think kids will enjoy this book as much as I did. Although the theme is responsibility, a boring topic for kids, it sends the message in a funny, cute way. Also, the story is simple to understand.
Arthur learns how to take care of his new puppy to keep it healthy. A great book for any child who has a pet must come to know that it will make messes, lots of messes that are not fun to clean up. That is why they must be trained not to toilet in the house and not to chew on furniture. This book has a cute twist at the end.
Arthur is a beloved character from my childhood, but I'm not sure my future students will be familiar enough with him to read this book without a character introduction. Other than that slight detail, I think this book would be a good one for the shelf! It teaches about responsibility with pets and how hard it can be to train a puppy. Many students may be able to relate to it.
Emma (age 7) says: it was a good book. I like aurthur books and this one was good because it got more intresting. Some books dont get very intreating.
Bella (age 6) says: i liked the pictures and i liked the dog. I liked when the puppy does tricks.
Moms review: I read Aurthur books when I was younger and honestly they are one of my favorites. I missed them alot it was a nice treat reading this one with the kids. Cute plot adorable truths and imagination. Fun book to add to the collection.
This book by Marc Brown tells a story of Arthur, who gets a new puppy Pal. Pal is a "naughty puppy" and gets into a lot of trouble. Pal destroys the living room, is not potty trained, hides items behind rose bushes, and causes Arthur a lot of headaches. With diligent work and determination, Arthur finally proves that Pal is a good puppy by training him to lean different tricks. Arthur's family sees how much Pal has changed and decided to keep him in the house from then on.
Arthur's New Puppy by Marc Brown is one of my favorite kid's books. It is about Arthur and his new puppy Pal. The puppy is naughty and messes up Arthur's things and messes up the house. Arthur learns it's not easy to take care of a puppy. Arthur is a responsible pet owner. He teaches the puppy to behave and puts on a puppy show for his family. I like this book because Arthur takes care of his puppy.
Cute stuff. This was a go-to book for my youngest child, who is way too old for it now. Avoid this book if you don't have a dog and don't plan to let your child get one.
Summary: Arthur gets a new puppy, named Pal. Arthur convinced his parents to let him stay inside the house instead of the garage, but when they woke up the next morning, Pal had made a mess in the kitchen and living room. Arthur knew he had to train Pal quickly to make sure he could keep him, and after hard work, he prepared a show for his family for them to see Pal's improvement.
Major Theme: Arthur gets a new puppy, but has to train him to be able to keep him.
Personal Response: My family has always liked dogs, and my dad has always been the one to train them. I could see the effort he put into it, and through time they all got better.
Recommendation: I think this is a great book to show children how hard work gives results. If you want something enough, and work hard enough, you will accomplish it.
Puppies are like Arthur's new puppy. Puppies learn quickly with a patient, kind teacher like Arthur. But there are so many things that a puppy needs to learn about living with people that for a while puppies are a lot of work. Finally the puppy knows enough to be a wonderful friend for years. It is worth the work in the end.
I have always loved Arthur stories. In this story we got to see the more responsible side of Arthur when he learns about how big owning a dog and the troubles that come with it. I think that this story does a good job of taking a topic that is rather hard to cover and makes is less complex for children to understand.
This book is a great book because it shows Arthur taking responsibility of his new dog Pal. I also loved this book because of the TV show that I also used to watch when I was younger. If I were to read this to a group of children they would not have to even know about the tv show. It shows Arthur Taking responsibility and training his dog so his parents won't make the dog live in the Garage.
I think this book is very effective in broaching some issues that arise when a puppy is adopted. In a funny way the author managed to portray the typical problems a puppy dog can cause in a household. Nice as they are, puppies are a challenge to manage and both kids and adults must be aware of what lies ahead.
I read this to my foot year old. It's a light read and talks about the joys of puppy training. Kids are interested in listening to new stories, especially the ones on tv.
Genre: fantasy Grade level: 2 I really liked reading this book. I like Arthur’s character and how he interacts with others. He is very relatable and funny. I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a little longer picture book.
I really enjoyed this book when I was little and this is the review I gave it, “If you like puppies you would like it. Arthur tries to train Pal and Pal pees on the floor. To find out more read the book.”

Arthur's new puppy, Pal, is a handful, but he must be trained in order for him to stay with the family. Arthur soon discovers that puppy training isn't as easy as his book makes it seem. Time and patience are along with care for Pal.
Arthur has always been a fun series. This book kind of reminds me of my own puppy, well my mothers puppy but we all help raising him. He used to be so loud and fiesty but with enough attention and care hes grown into an adorable behaved dog.
