I have a great love affair with BDSM books and even coming into a story well within a series, means nothing to me. I have to get my read on and see what occurs.

This is the story of Danny and Gary. These two guys are just so darn cute and so very sweet together. I really enjoyed the story and seeing these two finally get their acts together.

Danny is this really young guy whose life hasn’t been the easiest. His father was an verbally abusive jerk and threw Danny out when he was 18 for being gay. Danny lived rough for a couple of months before his older brother, Caden found him and took him in. Caden got Danny the job as a house submissive at Indiscreet where he finds friends and Gary. Danny has low self-esteem and insecurity issues that stem from dealing with his jerk of a father. Danny is so sweet and kind and yet, he’s so very strong. The strength to know who he is and what he wants. I really liked Danny, however, I felt that he was almost written as a female character. However, I think that it’s just because he’s really young and that he’s dealing with those earlier mentioned issues that he’d outgrow that.

Gary…now I have to say that I liked Gary. I liked that this former pro baseball player who was trying so hard not to fall for anyone until he got his life together and yet, fell for sweet Danny anyway. I really liked that he put so much thought into past his baseball career. Getting a double Masters and almost has an PhD. Gary’s not a dumb man. I like that once Gary has made up his mind and has plotted a course of action…he’s on it. I liked seeing Gary’s growth into the Dom that Danny needed. Gary is really a great guy. I liked that he wanted Danny so much that he finally found the strength of will to make the moves that he knew he needed to take in order to get his life where he wanted it.

I really loved the secondary characters in this book. Jim and Brian…these guys are such great friends to Danny. They help guide Danny in the world of being a contracted sub. I love how these two guys befriended Danny and showed him just how much they like him. Bear and Reed were really good to Gary. They proved that they wanted nothing but the best for both of them and would do anything to keep Danny safe. Caden…what an AMAZING big brother to Danny. I really liked how he cared for his brother and how protective he was when he realized that Danny was in a committed relationship to Gary.

There was a fair amount of sex in this book and I will say that it was tastefully done. The scenes were never gratuitous. They were there to show the growing relationship between Danny and Gary. The sex scenes weren’t very long and not really that explicit.

This book had a bit of homophobic language, but it was mainly from the bad guy. He was just really using it to be hateful because his house of cards was falling. He was such jerk and just plain nasty. He had his just desserts coming and he DEFINITELY had it coming.

The story was really well-written and it flowed smoothly. Even having not read the prior books, this book was a great standalone story. This was a wonderful quick read and I enjoyed reading it. I have to say that now, I really want to go back and read the other books and read their stories. I’d really like to read Caden’s story and I really liked him.

** Definitely spoilers here. Beware. **

I was so leery of reading this because the previous volume in the series infuriated me to such a degree that I am still upset remembering it. But no need for worries. This one is mostly silly and boring with only small moments of WTF.

LOL. “We’ll never tell anyone you love him.” Five minutes later: “He loves him.” This is a great way to start things.

The formatting/editing is atrocious. Forget all about quotation marks; who needs them! You can just guess who is speaking or where it ends.

This is incredibly dry. Just an inventory of what people buy and install and do or plan to do. Even the speech is all about that. But what really makes this so uninviting to read is that not only is everything listed in detail, but then everyone tells everyone else about those details all over again. And we get to read all of that over and over.

Matters are not improved by the fact that the interaction between the protagonists is shockingly lacking in intimacy. Very distant, with the way the Dom treats the sub as a servant/masturbation tool. In a way it actually matches the old-fashioned idea of a kept mistress.
Which is precisely Danny’s role, by the way. A prostitute, if a very high priced and exclusive one. Funny how no one mentions this. Submission contract, my behind. Yeah, this is totally what big brother was likely to set him up for. ^^;

The D/s is horrific in general. They don’t know the difference between punishment and discipline.
This relationship simply does not strike me as healthy. I mean Gary severely punishes Danny for having low self-esteem – and he does so both emotionally (leaving him, and later berating him some more) and physically. Yeah, that’s sure to help the poor guy. Jeez.
And the reasons for those punishments seem awfully arbitrary. Gary seems to go out of his way to make Danny feel horrible, when all Danny wants is to be good enough. There’s no sense of play in this, no sense of balance in this exchange of power.

Also the way everyone talks about Danny – as though he was not present or unable to give input. Totally conducive to building up self-worth, right?
Worst of all, they’re actually advocating to “beat that nonsense out of him”. I am not kidding. This is pretty disgusting.

Really not a fan.
I would prefer to let it end right here but I already got the rest of the series so I know I will eventually catch up. Silly me.

This is a great story IF a submissive that acts like a female on hormones and who weeps or sobs on a regular basis doesn't bother you too much. It did me somewhat, but as I got into the stoty, I was able to overlook it and found that that one issue aside, I completely enjoyed read the story. In fact, I've reread my favorite parts, of which there are many, multiple times. The writing is clean, the story is cohesive and well-written, the bad guys are more than bad enough and the MCs are lovable. Danny, the submissive, has a lot of self-esteem and insecurity issues from an emotional and mental abusive father who threw him out when he came out, so that somewhat explains why he's immediately in tears when he thinks he's done something to upset Gary, his Dom. The sex scenes are hot, but not very long and the BDSM elements are good. This is a book in a series, though I haven't bought the previous ones, and I had no problems following the story. I think for the page count, it should be less than $6.99, but I am satisfied with my purchase.

For me Gary's Choice was so much better than Bull's Whip.
In this story we have an insecure sub (Danny) and a closeted Dom (Gary). The story focuses on the present with enough glimpeses of their pasts to put things into perspective. The major characters from the previous books put in enough of an appearance to keep things moving. An enjoyable read.

Coming out

Gary is a retired baseball player who finally find a reason to come out . Danny has such a low self esteem that he doesn't think he is worth being loved . Gary ex manager is out to get Danny because he blames Danny for having been caught stealing from his clients . All their friends safe Danny and everyone ends up happy .

Danny and Gary = Once again the subs do their best to give own of their own a happy ending. It's a life changing match up and has some drama but it is also pure joy to see these two work things out.
