This isn't for me.

There is too much back and forth between the present and the past, too much whimsy, and too much of the heroine whispering out loud to herself. Constantly.

So, sadly, just not for me.

Dragon Knight's Sword, the 1st book in the Order of the Dragon Knights series was epic. Anyone who read my review of Dragon Knight's Ring which was the 5th book in the series knows that I loved that one so much I went on over to Amazon and bought all the other books. And I'm so glad I did. I am so glad I took a chance and got Dragon Knight's Ring from Netgalley. I never heard of Mary Morgan before and I would have totally missed out on this awesome series that I am enjoying so much!

Duncan Mackay was hurting so bad. His soul was tortured over the sin that brought him and his clan dishonor. His pain was eating away at his soul and all he wanted was death and to bring the honor back to his brothers. Duncan was so damaged. I wanted so much to hold him and heal him. His pain felt so raw and real. Brigid was an old soul. She never felt like she belonged until she went back in time to the 13th century. All her family was gone and she had no one until Duncan. Brigid was sassy, brave, and she loved with all her heart. She was all in when she cared for you she didn't hold back. I loved that Brigid didn't play games she was an open book and told you how she felt.

 photo 5031f298_zpsz023mu5w.gif

Duncan and Brigid had a bit of a push/pull relationship. Duncan felt that he didn't deserve Brigid plus he knew she wasn't from his time and he was scared she would go back to her time and leave him. But they couldn't fight that burning passion for long. They had major heat. I loved how Brigid softened Duncan and showed him that he was worthy of love. I enjoyed Duncan and Brigid's story so much. I loved the whole time travel/ highlander/fae plot. I liked getting to know Cormac Murray and can't wait to read his story. I really liked Nell and Finn and loved how their problem worked out. I was a little sad about something that happened to Brigid and wanted that to be fixed. I loved everything about this book and I can't wait to start book 2!

Unfortunately I didn't have much luck with time-travel either... :(

The writing style irked me since the first page. I got the feeling that the story was told like a screenplay of a greek tragedy: pompous and exaggerated. I didn't liked it at all.

While reading I was feeling like the book thought I was an idiot and has to stress everything in order to hammer it in my thick head.

Also the "hero" was not to my liking. In one instance while discussing a painful topic, he puts his hands around his neck instead!!! And I thought: "This guy has anger management issues as big as a house!!!"...

So, despite all the stellar rating this was not for me...

Dragon Knight's Sword was an ok read for me. I loved the concept and I always love the Fae. Unfortunately while there were things I enjoyed I found the overall book just ok and lacking in many parts. While I'm curious about the other brothers I doubt I would bother reading their stories.

This is absolutely one of my favorite books. It reminded me of the old Harlequin books with the highlander and the maiden on the front. I got swept away in the romance. I felt all of the emotions the author portrayed. While I'm not a particular fan of historical romances, the paranormal element of magic and fae along with the time-travel added just what I needed to really enjoy this book. I could not put it down. I have started book 2 and pre-ordered book 3. I also liked that it was a full length novel so it took me more than a few hours to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romance with a touch of paranormal.

I want to start by saying I have waited for this book since the day Mary mentioned she was trying to find a publisher. I knew, at that moment, this story would be a worthy read. I felt it to my core....and it is!

Descended from the Tuatha de Danann, half human, half fae, they are the Guardians of the Dragons....The Dragon Knights. With the coming of Christianity, the dragons perished - all but one. The Mackay Clan took her out of Eire into Scotland. An evil order destroyed the clan and the guardians dispersed. Only, one will fight for right....Duncan Mackay.

Scotland - 1204

Brothers Angus, Duncan, Stephen, and Alastair await their punishment as their younger sister, Margaret, lies dead. They have fouled holy ground by the battle and killing. The Guardian comes and levels a curse upon their heads for tainting the sacred ground. They were honorable men who now are made to live with their disgrace....to live in shame, without honor, until the curse is broken.

Present Day - Seattle, Washington

Brigid and her friend Lisa own an antique shop. Brigid receives a sword in an oak box and it has came from Scotland with a note... a verse mentioning destinies and fates and returning the sword to it's rightful place. There is no return address. When Brigid touches it, she gets light headed and knows there is something more surrounding this sword. It's a beautiful, old, heavy sword with a stone in the hilt and a dragon carved down the blade with Celtic carvings. Brigid has always believed the Old Ways and legends but when it's dropped into her lap she's almost gob smacked. Through a professor she knows, she learns it is part of the relics the Dragon Knights protected. The Order possessed the sword, stone, axe, shield, and book and each relic was bonded with a knight. She has the sword of Duncan Mackay and she is to return it to Scotland. The question that burns in her is, "Why HER???".

Take a love for medieval history, throw in an ancient relic, a "Viking God", a dragon, and a curse and you find yourself thrown back to the 13th century into the arms of the man not "OF " but "IN" your dreams. Brigid is a hoot! Fiery, saucy, and just out and out full of spunk who left me laughing many times. Duncan is a warrior who is wounded to his soul. Carrying guilt so deep he sees no light or future. Healing is heading his way but there will be prices to pay from both Duncan and Brigid to reach it.

I laughed and when I cried, I cried hard. I even found myself wanting to step right through the pages to stab a sword deep into the black heart of one druid, Lachlan. Plain and simple, this story and all the characters moved me to my soul.

I have to start with the residents of the village where Brigid stays when she gets to Scotland....magical....plain and simple.
Conn - the elite of the Fenian Warriors. Yes, I want one of my very own... I smile at him with his Viking God self!
Moira - a woman who works in the castle, who any woman would be blessed to call friend.
Matilada, an old healer who this reader feels has a soul older than time. She cares deeply for Duncan and, in in time, with Brigid herself.
Finn and Nell - two small children whom Duncan protects that climbed into my lap and into my heart as I read. Nell's "family' reminds me of the Misfit Toys from Toy Land.
Cormac, Laird of Castle Creag - Duncan's best friend who, bless his heart, took a few punches but always left me smiling.
Cathal - a Druid who's soul truly lives, I believe.
Archibald - a professor Brigid had in college who became like family to her. There is more to him than meets the eye, I believe, and I have a feeling we may not have seen the last of him or his assistant, Ms. Peterson.
Sorcha, Cathal's falcon and the dragon, who we all now know as Nessie.

I saw deeper than the words written on these pages, straight into a true medieval heart, and that one belongs to Mary Morgan. Her words transport, and if you believe, they will speak to your soul. I've read for many years now and I can count on one hand the authors that move me this deeply. She is one of them.

I think we all have our own inner demons we struggle with through our lives and it's how we overcome those things that makes us. This story is about struggles, the hope and faith we have to face them, and love....it's about love.

Mary Morgan is fast becoming my new favourite romance author. Dragon Knight's Sword is an evocative tale that combines historical with fantasy, modern day with old, and it will keep you turning those pages right until the end.

I adored the characterisation of Brigid. She is thrown into a world that is unrecognisable and dangerous, but she is drawn to the rugged Highlander, Duncan Mackay, like no man from her time. Duncan wants to die, but the fae has a different destiny in mind for him that will change both his and Brigid's life forever.

The romantic suspense in this book is extremely well drawn, and the love Brigid and Duncan have for each other is very real and very believable. A lot happens in this story as we are introduced to those Dragon Knights and their enemy. Having read some of the other books in the series, I was looking forward to reading the one that started them all. I was not disappointed. This book is a keeper.

I Highly Recommend.

(Order of the Dragon Knights, 1 )

Duncan McKay will do absolutely anything to lift the horrible curse from his family no matter the cost. But his plans end up changing when he encounters the woman who haunts his dreams and is from the future. She has his missing sword and can also talk to the Dragon who is able to lift his curse, but will she be strong enough to do this?

Brigid O'Neill has spent her life listening and learning the mythological legends from Ireland and Scotland. Then after an ancient sword addressed to her shows up at her shop she starts dreaming of a rugged highlander so she drops everything and takes on the quest of a lifetime that will alter everything she believes.

Before the journey ends, not only will Duncan and Brigid battle an ancient curse, they must also find the courage to believe in the destiny that has brought them together.

Mary Morgan is absolutely incredible. This lady knows how to blend history and paranormal all into one book. Once I picked up this book I could not put it down and bought the rest of the series right away. Ms. Morgan has a talent that astounds me and I can't wait to read more from her.

Dragon Knight's Sword is the first book I have read by Mary Morgan. I discovered her, Order of the Dragon Knight's Series, while attending a Facebook party for another author. I won the 2nd book in the series, Dragon Knight's Medallion, so I decided to purchase this book for my Kindle. I am very glad that I did! I would've missed out on a wonderful book if I hadn't.

This book is a Time Travel/Paranormal Romance. Parts of it are set in the present day, and parts are 800 years in the past. Time Travel with medieval settings are my favorite (sigh)!

Being part human and part fae, Duncan Mackay, and his brothers were given mystical powers, and intrusted with guarding the dragons. All this changed one night when Duncan committed an unspeakable act while in a blind rage, which ends with a curse being put on his family. Now Duncan and his brothers are scattered across Scotland, and it is up to Duncan to break the curse and bring his brothers back home.

Brigid O'Neill is lover of ancient artifacts, and mythology. So when an ancient sword is delivered to her door, she is compelled to return it to it's rightful owner. The problem is she must travel to Scotland to do it.

I adored this book! It had everything to hold my attention. Duncan is a strong hero, and I was drawn to him. The author did a wonderful job of showing us all of his qualities (instead of just telling). He was strong, stubborn, a little stand-offish, warm and all masculinity all in one. Brigid's character was very well developed, and everything I look for in a heroine. She wasn't squeamish, she doesn't back down from a fight, and she loves with her whole heart. They were a good fit for each other.

I felt like I was right there with them, experiencing as they did. I enjoyed the secondary characters, Cormac (Duncan's best friend), and the old druid, Cathal, and Nell. Nell was a little girl that Cormac's clan took in. She formed an attachment with Brigid, and followed her around constantly. What is a time travel without a 'good' Druid thrown into the mix?

The story flowed well, and climbed rather nicely, right up to the very end. I did feel that the end was a little rushed. I would like to have seen it dragged out just a wee bit more, but no big deal. Other than that, I loved the story, and I look forward to reading Stephen Mackay's story in 'Dragon Knight's Medallion'.

I have Mary Morgan added to my favorite author list. Meaning I would probably buy anything she wrote, and I don't do that but with a handful of other authors. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good time-travel, mixed with a little fae magic, and of course highlanders!

Dragon Knight's Sword
(Order of the Dragon Knights Book 1)
By: Mary Morgan
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐

My heart and mind still remain slightly dazzled days after finishing this novel. Perhaps the reader unknowingly keeps a sliver of the mystical fae portrayed in these pages so cleverly woven by author Mary Morgan. I have read stories in the past depicting magical fae beings but never have I read a novel so cleverly pieced together in both imagination and heart.

"Listen and believe, for the story i am about to tell you is one of truth, and if you so choose to believe, then you are one of the rare and special ones."

Can you imagine living a life that is not meant to be your own, your true destiny awaiting you in a different time and place? Following Heroine Brigid O'Neill from modern day Seattle to the mid evil Highlands of Scotland i could not fathom the thought of not only time travel but actually having your destiny decided for you long before your birth. As i flipped through the pages i could not help but put myself in Brigid's place as she tried to navigate the meaning of her dreams, an ancient sword falling into her hands and the feelings of belonging somewhere else that she could not understand....Read More at Between the Pages Book Blog!

Fantasy At It's Best!
This is the first book I have purchased from this author and let me tell you that she spins a story to thrill anyone who appreciates a good fantasy. Not far into the book I could already feel a connection to both Duncan and Brigid. I really enjoyed their story and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates stories about time travel, the paranormal and fantasy. I am so glad that this is just the beginning of the Dragon Knights and their story as I am not ready to let them go! I look forward to book 2 in the series.

An enchanting clash between a guilt-ridden ancient warrior, and a modern-day sassy lassie.

Duncan Mackay is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and it's almost too much to bear. A chance at love and redemption presents itself in the form of Brigid From the Future, but can he forgive himself long enough to take it?

Great plot. Great romance. Great book.

Dragon Knight's Sword is the first in the series about the Dragon Knights. The series is about four brothers and their sister. They are guardians of the last dragon and sacred relics. There was a tragic fight that killed their sister and these stories are of the brothers' journey to reclaiming their honor and their individual relic. There are druids, fae warriors, lust, romance, lack of communication, stubborn characters, and time travel. The stories are a mix of Irish and Scottish myth and legends. Each story is a stand alone for each brother, but there is reference to earlier happenings if read them out of order. So to avoid any spoilers it is best to read them in order.

The sword is Duncan Mackay's. This first story is his journey from depression after the tragedy to hope and love. Duncan is not the eldest of the brothers, but it was his sword that killed their sister. So he is the first to try to clean their honor, lift the curse, and hopefully regain the sword.

It starts in 1205AD, a year after the tragic death of their sister. Duncan has come to realize he needs to do something to clear the curse. He travels to find a wise druid to clarify what that something is and how to accomplish it. Thus starts his quest.

Brigid is co-owner of an antique shop in current day Seattle who majored in history. She receives a sword and with help of a history professor figures out what it may be. She is off to Scotland to return the sword to the Mackay clan.

This is a romance, so obviously their paths cross. How their paths cross and what happens to them is great story telling. Secrets are revealed. Mysteries are unraveled. Dreams become real. The Great Dragon is met. Both the quest and the romance have their ups and downs.

There is a good balance of informative detail to broad strokes of background. Humor is well used to relieve tension as they travel their paths. There is lust at first sight, that becomes love. I do a fast skim of the detailed sex scenes which are less detailed than other stories and not inappropriate.

Looking forward to the other stories.

Very well written and enjoyable. It is exciting, enjoyable, suspenseful, fun, emotional and so much more. I loved how the past and future was weaved in together. Although there was so much background and history put in you almost get bored before the story grabs you again. But you need that for the story. I can't wait for more. I loved that it was not a cliffhanger. That it just leaves you hungry for more. Put yourself in her place and wouldn't that be awesome to go back to a place where you wanted. I highly recommend it.

If you love Scotland, historical romance, and time travel, you'll want to check this out! Filled with drama, mythology, and heart, Dragon Knight's Sword was a lovely read. The hero and heroine, Duncan Mackay and Brigid O'Neill, really deserved their happy ending, and I loved the various settings in both the 13th century and the present. Just a beautiful romance!

Dragon Knight!

Dragon Knight is a wonderful story. It is a love story, but it also about the time when magic was prevailing theme. Fae and dragon guardians, and lasses who love the strong damaged men and able to make them whole. This story has all of that and more.

Reading for a book with just about everything?? Time Travel, Highlands, The Fae, Dragons, Magic, Feuds, Corruption, Greed, Tragic Love, Redemption, The Kitchen Sink (*grins* not really) then Dragon Knight's Sword, Book One of Mary Morgan's Dragon Knights Series is it. One of those books that leaves you with the WOW factor and wanting more, right NOW.

Brigid O'Neill is an old soul. Spending her life researching ancient artifacts and operating her antique store. But when a mysterious sword is delivered to her, there is just something magical about it and Brigid wants to know more. And once she starts researching her curiosity only grows. All the answers it seems, lead to Scotland. Her only chance to find her answers is to also discover herself.. but once in Scotland the magic pulls her until fear, despair, an over abundance of curiosity and one Guardian Fae sends her back to the 13th century.. and even more questions.

In one rage induced strike, Duncan Mackay accidentally kills his sister, curses his family, exacerbates an ancient feud and destroys the hope of an entire clan. As far as he is concerned he is unredeemable. His family has long been the guardians of the last Dragon. Each member has held an ancient fae relic but now.. those relics have been tossed to the four corners of the world as have the family. Duncan has wallowed in his remorse for a year but times are changing and there is once again magic in the glen. And one stormy night he senses the magic of his sword, it has returned but it is held in the hands of a beautiful woman who dresses oddly and speaks with a strange accent. He doesn't know who she is but he does know she has power. Maybe the power to heal his clan.

Brigid and Duncan are both confused and attracted. The pull between them is immediate but then so is the distrust. How could a woman from a strange land and even stranger time ever save the clan?

Aside from trying to figure out how to save the Clan Mackay and to protect the dragon and respect the fae.. their are others interested in their actions. A neighboring clan has been feuding with the Mackays for generations and they feel that it's them not the Mackays who should hold the sacred talismen. And of course there are others who are stirring the pot. While the fae are not actively meddling, well except bringing Brigid 800 years into the past, the druids have taken sides. Some believe that no one family should hold so much power. Some believe that the Mackays have done an exceptional job until now and this is just a trial to test their resolve and others, well they want that power for themselves.. Of course they do..

Now we see what Brigid and Duncan are up against and to top it all off, they are falling in love. But when Brigid completes her task she is going to be sent home. How can Duncan ever trust a temporary love? How can he give his heart to one woman only to have her leave in so short of a time? And Brigid, her heart has spoken but can she truly love knowing that her time is short?

Powerful, intense, romantic.. all great words to describe this fabulous book. I seriously can't wait for the next book!!

A Dragon Knight battles for redemption in this enthralling fantasy romance. Duncan McKay will do anything to lift the curse from his family – even forfeit his own life. An ancient sword lands on Brigid O’Neill’s doorstep and she embarks on a quest that will alter everything she believes in. Together they must find the courage to believe in the destiny that brought them together.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers keeps readers on their toes with lots of suspense, drama, magic, and romance. The author brings this adventurous tale to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated drama and suspense draw the reader deeper into the story and ensure that they want to know more. The strong compelling characters including half human half fae knights, goddesses, druids and a dragon are easily related to and captivate readers until they have read the very last page.

The attraction between Brigid and Duncan immediately flares hot and strong from their first meeting in their dreams and explodes with more heat upon first meeting and the sex scenes sizzle with lots of scorching passion. But the characters believe that the relationship is doomed due to the fact that she is from the distant future and Duncan has some rage issues that he will have to overcome. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their story as try to accept their destiny and battle an ancient curse.

The author has created a fantastic fantasy world with her own special spin on ancient legends and myth that spins a web and ensnares the reader. The story has some surprising twists and lots of charming characters and takes the reader on a journey to historical Scotland. Although I am a little unclear as to what the relics do, I really enjoyed Duncan and Brigid’s Quest and I can’t wait to see what the next knight’s quest will bring.

An overall enjoyable read, Dragon Knight's Sword was a lovely time-travel romance. It wasn't perfect, but it was still a good read and I quite liked it.

Brigid was a great heroine. She was clever and stronger than she gave herself credit for. She was a likable, if not particularly memorable, character. I thought she was lovely.

Duncan was wonderful. He was burdened underneath the guilt of what he did to become cursed (though there was more to that then met the eye), but even though he thought himself a monster, it was clear that he was an honorable man who was very loyal and could be so sweet. He was great and I really liked him.

The romance was good. It took a while to start up, but once it it, I thought they were very sweet together. And, they definitely had some chemistry going on between them. I thought they were a lovely couple.

The plot was okay. It was a bit slow at first, but things pick up about a third of the way through and I was kept interested from then on, though never quite hooked. There were plenty of secrets and deceptions that kept me guessing, particularly the secret of what was really happening the night that Duncan was cursed. I enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

Dragon Knight's Sword was an enjoyable time-travel romance. It had its flaws, but it was still a good read that I ended up liking. Romance lovers, you might want to look this one up.

This is a very well done book. It is a Time Travel, action, learning to heal your heart Book. Duncan and Brigid, well they were thrown together but work off each other well. Brigid is reeling from thrown back in time 800 years. Duncan is the kind of man you want saving you. The chemistry is spot on and you will not be able to put this book down.

I have to say Brigid is a funny girl, mouthy too. Though in reality, if any of this happened to you, you would react the same way. I like that she received the sword and it helps with the whole of the story. It makes it more fun.

Duncan is trying to remove the curse he had placed on himself and his brothers. They are part of the Dragon Knights, the Keepers of ancient relics. Duncan want to give up his life to save his brothers from the curse. When he heads to the druid to find out what he needs to do to accomplish this, the druid lets him know, and Duncan doesn't like it. Duncan has a spacial ability and sometimes is too emotional to control it.

They have enemies they have to fight, and conquer. The side characters, LOVED them.I loved the book and can see this series a huge hit. I am so happy to have read this book and have a new author to add to my list. Watch out for this lady and keep updated on her books. It is so worth it. I mean Dragons, Druids, Fae and Highlanders all in one book. How can you go wrong.

This is a fantastic time travel romance story. I love the way it unfolds, melding the past and the present. All of the characters are wonderful. I listened to the audible version and the narrator, Jonathan Waters, did a fantastic job with all the Scottish accents. Each character (and there were many) had it's own distinct voice, easily recognizable from the others. He even did a great job on the female voices.

There is romance, adventure, intrigue - it's all here. It all moves along at a steady pace to keep the reader engaged. Looking forward to more in this series.

For the first book of a series, Mary Morgan does an excellent job in building characters and settings for her story. There are a few inconsistencies such as inaccurate historical references, (items being used that were not around in the 11th century). However, they are few. Incorporating the introduction of Christianity during the 11th century within the story worked. As a reader, I felt this may be too boring for a time traveling romance. Instead, Mary Morgan successfully tells of the struggles and transfer of beliefs.

Duncan Mackay of the Clan Mackay, is one of four brothers who have suffered due to the death of their sister, Meggie upon holy ground. The brothers are all members of the Dragon Knights; all deeply feel their part of their sister's death makes them unworthy to continue to serve. The night of Meggie's death, the Guardian appears to punish the Dragon Knights for the death of Meggie; she took away their sacred relics. Duncan's sacred relic was a sword. Thinking all was lost to them, each brother goes their way of self-exile away from their home, Urquhart Castle. Instead, in her proclamation, the Guardian told the brothers how they could redeem themselves. But too lost in their grief, none of the brothers understood her words.

Across the ages of time, Brigid Moira O'Neill is the co-owner of an antique shop in Seattle Washington. With her friend and co-owner of the antique shop, Lisa MacDonald, they attend estate sales and scours the Internet to obtain artifacts and items for their shop. Unexpectedly, a package containing a sword arrives addressed to Brigid. Immediately, she senses the sword is special, very old and 'speaks' to her. A note within the package tells Brigid that she needs to return the sword. After reaching out to her mentor and friend, Professor Archie McKibben, Brigid travels to Scotland.

The beginning of this story is a little slow, which is why I gave 4 stars. But given the the setting and characters had to be set up, I expected back story of history and details would be needed. Once Brigid arrives in Scotland, the pace of the story picks up and moves forward.

I knew that Duncan and Brigid would get together and somehow fall in love. But the events and journey of their relationship was refreshingly unique. The story has entertaining secondary characters who provide humor and details to the storyline.

This series was highlighted on a Facebook group of Scottish Romance novels. I am very happy that I took the recommendation and started the series. By the time I reached the halfway point of Dragon's Knight Sword, I knew that I would be continuing the series.

In book one of the Order of the Dragon Knights, antique shop owner Brigid O’Neill receives a package from an unknown sender. A medieval sword is inside the box along with a mysterious note that claims she must return the sword to its rightful owner. She flies to Scotland to do just that, but she never expects to meet a Fenian warrior and travel back in time.
Duncan Mackay is overwhelmed with anger and grieving the loss of his sister. He wants nothing more than to sacrifice his life to restore honor to his family and lift the curse on his brothers. Then he meets Brigid. She offers him her gift of love and redemption, but will he push his shame aside and take his second chance at happiness?
Brigid and Duncan are wonderful characters. They’ve both felt alone for so long and found kindred spirits in each other.
The secondary characters are great. I’m eager to learn more about Duncan’s brothers and more about the MacFhearguis clan. I’ve previously read one of this series spin-off books (To Weave a Highland Tapestry), so I was already aware of some spoilers, but I enjoyed seeing how everything began. The children, Nell and Finn, are some of my favorite characters. Conn, the Fenian (fae) warrior, is definitely swoon-worthy.
There is a lot of world set-up, so the H/h didn’t meet until about 1,600% in my Kindle copy. The chapters set in the present day and in the 13th century kept my interest and drew me deeper into the world Ms. Morgan was creating. I liked that the time period kept jumping back and forth between chapters until Brigid finally travels to the past.
If you’re a fan of time travel, magic, damaged heroes, and brainy heroines, then Dragon Knight’s Sword is for you.
