Infinity #1.5

Hope: Infinity Series Short Story

Rate this book
Per the author: This short story takes places during Falling Into Infinity. If you remember, Charlie and Colin break up, and Colin marries "rebound chick" not long after. By the time Colin and Charlie reconnect at the Clay South retirement party, Colin's been divorced for awhile. This short story takes place when Colin informs his first wife he wants a divorce.

I wrote this piece with every intention of using it in Infinity. After the book was complete, I realized it bogged the story down. So, with a heavy heart, I removed it. However, I just couldn't let it hang out in my saved documents, so here it is . . . Enjoy!

Layne Harper is a mom, wife, book junkie, and sports fanatic. However, when the kids and husband are safely ensconced at school and work, she slips into her office with her three rescue dogs and writes until it’s time to drive carpool. Her children have no idea about her secret life (and they hopefully never will), and the dogs won’t tell. She’s always writing in her mind though and making notes on whatever is close by; envelopes, napkins, a kid’s homework…

After reading all of the Infinity books, I really felt sorry for the "rebound" woman...and to be honest I kinda hated her after reading this short chapter. Let me explain...
I absolutely LOVE Charlie and Colin together, BUT I HATED that he was such a man-whore. That fact bothered me throughout the entire series!!!

The fact that he actually married someone else when he was IN LOVE with Charlie was absolutely heartbreaking to me. Especially since they were ONLY broken up for a FREAKEN YEAR! BUT I digress.... As I read the deleted chapter in the POV of "Hope", I realized that Hope really didn't care if Colin really loved her or not. Hope was OK with the fact that Colin was still in love with Charlie even though he was married to her. I think she was more worried about keeping him happy in the moment because that is all she knew in her shallow, dimwitted, subservient way. She was just an innocent that fell for the wrong guy. Colin is the real A$$hole in this picture. I think all the females in this story really let him get away with way too much. So he's a hot, famous, rich, sexy, star football player...Ladies have a little dignity...but I still don't like HOPE...

I never had any bad feelings against Hope, Colin is the one who used her. Throughout the series I have read how Charlie chose Harvard over Colin and I think that is just complete and total crap. Colin chose not to be supportive for Charlie, plain and simple he let her go. Everyone around Colin felt Charlie should have supported Colin in his career but they were not supportive for Charlie. This short story just shows how much everyone blamed Charlie for Colin's actions, Colin chose to be destructive, drink, take pain pills, and be a man whore.

So an interesting little vignette, but it didn't have my characters that I wanted to read about in it. But I can totally see how this would have bogged down the flow of the other books so I'm glad it was available outside the book.

It was short but it puts some of the pieces to the puzzle back into place. Wish there was more background in the story with Hope but I can't complain much! Haha
