Aproape nu-i venea să creadă că-l angajase să-i ucidă părinţii.

― Pierce are o urmă neconcludentă ― într-o zi, două.

At the beginning, this had the feel of something written by Jeffrey Archer - less a mystery than a group of people getting their revenge on a bad guy. I even entertained the idea of this being an everybody-dunit. But it's really all pretty straightforward once you get to the end.
None of these characters are likable. Not even the detectives.

I have read several Barbara Paul books in a row. This one was good, a slight play on the three little pigs, but I didn't think it was as strong as the previous books I read. None of the main characters were sympathetic.

had this book on my shelves for at least a decade - now it came the time to read it ... well, a lazy Sunday morning read for me ... a murder , 3 criminals, 3 suspects , not a very complicated plot.

This is an early book in the Marian Larch series, although she is very unformed and not a main character.

The main characters are all unlikable, which I found intriguing. A ruthless businessman ("a very killable man," Marian comments) wants to buy up the controlling shares in a company and put it out of business. He needs shares from one of three people - another businessman, a violinist, and a rich playboy. He sees himself as the big bad wolf who will crush the three people who aren't cooperating with him, but they are not the three little pigs. Each has a Deep Dark Secret, which the businessman ferrets out, but he has no idea how ruthless his three targets are.

He lures them all to a location to decide which one of them will sell, but they aren't willing to play his little game. This book reminded me of Gone Girl in that all the main characters are despicable, but you still want to know what happens next. They actual "who done it" is not that interesting compared to the dynamics of the three targets and the original businessman.

It feels a bit dated, but is still a good read.

The story is about an unethical business leader who is trying to take over a competing business by buying up their stock. He only needs one more block of shares, and in order to force one of three stockholders who have such a block to sell to him, he invites all three to his home for the weekend to threaten them with dirt from their past. He ends up dead, and the cops have to try to figure out which of the "three little pigs" got the "big, bad wolf."

Sounds a little sordid, but Barbara Paul has a way with her words and her characters that made me keep reading, and made me look for more and more of her books.

It was a good read. Trying to figure out who did the crime, what evil people! Nicely written.
