After years on the hunt, Cedar Kartes is finally within striking distance of Cudgel Conrad, the criminal who slew his brother and framed him for murder. With the help of Kali McAlister, his business partner and the woman he’s mustering the courage to court, he believes he can finally rid the world of a bloodthirsty felon.
But nothing is ever easy in the Yukon. The new police commissioner has taken an interest in Cedar’s checkered past, a suspicious newspaperman is trying to make friends with Kali, and Cudgel may be laying traps for Cedar even as Cedar is trying to trap him.
Kali and Cedar continue their adventure in Dawson. Kali is repairing the airship after it exploded. She is developing a new engine which will work with the flash gold. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of Steampunk fantasy novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀☺🏡
Jos jedan zabavan chapter u ovoj prici. Glavni problemi su manje vise reseni ostalo je samo par detalja.
Ali taj kraj RAARGH, sta nije samo neki fin epilog napisala i gotovo. A sada cekaj par godina do sledece knjige.
U svakom slucaju ceo serijal vrlo zabavan, sa odlicnom akcijom, interesantnim likovima (mada su u sustini samo dva detaljnije opisano) i pricicom koja fino drzi paznju.
Man, I love this series. Cedar and Kali aren't the most forthcoming individuals... or, well, I guess it's more that they do well enough when they're dealing with their various projects (Kali's gadgets and Cedar's quest for revenge), but they're not as good at personal relationships.
Honestly, those two are going to be dynamite together once the stars align and they make their move. I mean, they rock NOW and they're still trying to figure things out. Relationship things. Future things. Look at me, I'm getting all flaily handed thinking about how they dance around one another as they try to find their groove.
I kind of adore the entire world Lindsay Buroker has created. Mechanicals and magic and bounty hunters who are willing to take a long hard look at what that life is doing to them. Cedar admires Kali's quick mind and her ability to adapt to situations. Kali's guarded and doesn't share parts of herself easily. And it works. It works so well.
5/15/16 reread - Reread complete! (I read the final book and then went back and reread the 4 previous, in case you were wondering) I'm SAD that I don't have any more to read or reread or whatever. Seriously. I like these guys. They make me grin.
Another quick fun read. Although this is short it still has the action and the great characters as well as a good story. No complaints except I wish it was longer
I have really enjoyed the Flash Gold series and this book was no different. The story opens shortly after the action in Peacemaker. Kali is well on the way to building her airship and Cedar is still hot on Cudgel Conrad's trail. That trail leads him and Kali into some really creepy scrapes in this book. ENough to make one's skin crawl. And it turns out that the Cudgel also has some sneaky magic up his sleeve, which certainly makes life even harder for Cedar. Unlike the other novellas, this one ends on a cliffhanger! How could you Lindsay?
So, what did I liked about this book?
Cedar's POV! I didn't expect that, and it was really fun being in his head – especially as Kali has found a new male friend . . . I loved seeing Cedar's tentative efforts to court her. So sweet and so fumbling for such a tough, hard-boned fighter. As usual, Kali is fun to be with, but I think she has quite a challenge facing her in the final book.
Not as action packed as the last novella but this was a twisty tale for sure. After witnessing the ruthlessness of Cuddel in the previous installment, its intense seeing our MCs get closer and closer to either catching him or getting caught by him.
Another fast paced read, sweet romanic aspects (more so than the last book) and setting up a great conclusion in the final book (I hope!).
This is a very good series. Really good she draws you into her books with her humorous characters
Her bugs are all action failed and humorous I love her characters. I highly recommend this writer. After this series you should check out her others. I've read all of her books a few times. I love this writer.
I can't really remember much of the last books apart from small bits and pieces, but I think the best bit for me with this was probably the last 10/15%, when it all a picked up with Cedars hunt for Cudgel.
Still a 5* yarn but as Lindsay says, its a pick-up after a long break and it does take a while to get a direction and settle the story down. As usual a well told tory once in the groove, and with all the new characters the final book could be a cracker!
Stumbled across this series in my Kindle library. Decided to read it again. Enjoyed add I do all of Lindsay Buroker stories. Strong woman lead and slow developing love story. Recommended reading for all!
More awesome, please! By which I mean the last installment. ASAP. This slow romance that has stretched across the whole series is finally heating up. As is Cedar's pursuit of his nemesis. MUST READ!
The story had a few pacing issues, that slowed the narrative down a little, however, the concluding action was well written and smooth. The actual battle felt a little short and almost anti-climatic after the prior three stories dwelling so much on the hunt for Cudgel. The only real eyebrow raising moment was a rattler pit in the Yukon in autumn....apparently these rattlers are endothermic.
This, book sure has lots of action ; with Kali and her gadgets, and Cedar with his arsenal of weapons. I hope that the next book wraps everything up; with her airship ship, together with Cedar and getting rich from the Flash Gold.
I read this when I couldn't get into any other book --- too traumatized by world events. So I'm giving it five stars, even though I seem to recall I kinda regretted it being all from his point of view.
Fabulous again. This time, the book was written from Cedar’s point of view which was nice. Good to see things from his perspective. It was a better length than the last few but still so short. AND a cliffhanger to boot!!!
Flash Gold is my favorite Buroker series (although that is a lot like picking a favorite child). I admit freely that I was one of those fans who, not so subtly, reminded the author on FB every time she announced the release of a new book how very excited I was going to be to read this new offering but (in the politest way possible) I would really love to read more about Cedar (if it wasn't too much trouble...thank you so very much for sharing your talent with us...grovel, grovel.)
I wasn't disappointed with this latest installment. Buroker's novels are all about dialogue. If you like to read how your beloved characters get out of a jam with witty repartee thrown in, this is the author for you. For such a "strong and silent type" male lead, Cedar does crack me up. I also really like Kali as a heroine. She is strong, smart, self-sufficient, and a talented engineer. Not to mention she makes wicked smoke nuts. :)
The book is definitely not long enough. I devoured it in about an hour, and it makes me sad to think that there is only one more book left in the series. Still, it is a wonderful addition to the story line (without giving anything away, it definitely moves the plot forward), and I just want to end this review with two very happy words:
I haven't read anything in the Flash Gold series that wasn't light, fun, and full of snappy dialogue, so in that respect, Claimed wasn't at all a disappointment. It moved at a fast clip, the action was well done and character driven enough that it didn't get boring, and it felt longer and more substantial than the previous three books. To some extent, though, this suffers from being so close to the end of the series. Most of the book focuses on tying up a massive loose end from the previous books, which it seems to have done so completely that I'm curious as to what the last book in the series is going to be about. (I've read enough adventure fiction to know that this may not actually be the case, but it'll take a lot of backtracking at the start of the next one to get out of the ending of this book.) It's also plagued by a case of, "Come on, guys, let's get this relationship going!" that wasn't so evident in the earlier books, partially because one of the major characters is caught in a mess of indecision where he didn't have time to stop and think before. This was still very entertaining, and I look forward to reading the final installment, but this seems to have been the calm before the storm. It's good setup for the final volume, and a decent continuation of events, but Claimed is the weakest book in the series so far, at least on its own terms.
My Review: This story is just as great as all the others in the Flash Gold Chronicles. My favorite thing about this one though is that Cedar, big Katana wielding Cedar, is jealous. The story starts out with Cedar being jealous of a newspaper man. Can you believe it? It ends with Kali exasperated with Cedar. That’s not new but you’ll be happy with the out come. I was. It was completely Kali and Cedar.
I love that these stories are a ruckus adventure. They are funny and fun. Does Cedar get his man? You’ll have to read the story for yourself to find out.
I’m so sad that the next one is the last one. At least we can be sure of a happy ending. This one has a happy ending too in case you are curious. Okay, it’s a complicated happy ending but aren’t they all? http://themodestvergebookblog.wordpre...
Isn't it strange how some series you can pick a book and not recall any of the characters, their names, their other halves or their back stories - even if you have read 5 or 6 really long books. Others just seem to be easily recalled.
So it is with the Flash Gold Chronicles. I am reliably informed that it is 2 years since the last novella was published and yet as I started this latest one it all came flooding back to me.
I love Kali and her brilliant inventiveness. Cedar and his bashfulness trying to tell her how he feels. Just perfect.
In this novella Cedar and Kali investigate why several proven claims are being sold for a fraction of their worth by the owners and then resold days later for a fortune.
