When the Alphan warrior Nakai captures a Xyran pirate ship, the last thing he expects is to have his heart stolen by a beaten, human male named Einian. He’s equally surprised by the ship’s other captive, a badly injured Xyran who’s apparently important to the human Nakai has rescued.

Nakai wants to court Einian and take him as his mate. But he can’t ignore the Xyran Sukh, in part because of Einian’s feelings for him … and in part for reasons Nakai doesn’t even want to admit to himself.

But when Einian’s life is in danger, Alphan and Xyran must work as one to find him, each finally willing to face the attraction between them. But have they left it too late?

Alphan warrior Nakai and Xyran Sukh and human Einian.

Nakai saved Einian from the Xyran slavers. He also saved a badly hurt Xyran, Sukn. He will later become interested in both of them.
I so bored with this story and the writing style was too flowerily for my taste.
MMM book.

Within a span of a couple of pages:

"You taste sweet. It must be all the fruit you eat.”
....
“I need to move, precious beloved.”
....
“Spill for me, my beloved one.”
....
“I love you, Nakai,” Einian murmured drowsily.
“I love you, my beautiful love.”

This story about two aliens and one human trying to figure out how to relate to each other is full of surprises. Nakai may begin as an Alphan warrior, fierce and out to fight the Xyrans, but he turns out to be much more than that. Sukh seems to be an unfeeling, brutal Xyran warrior, but he too has a few secrets just waiting to be discovered. And Einian, a human who starts out as a prisoner who has been beaten but not defeated, is in for the biggest surprise of his life. Taking these three men and melding them into a ménage relationship that will fulfil them all is not an easy task, but Pelaam doesn’t shy back from the challenge, managing to greatly entertain me in the process.

Nakai may have had to be a warrior for a while, but now that he has fulfilled his obligation, he is free to pursue other interests. Beyond the family vineyard he has always hoped to return to, he discovers that he has one mate for sure, Einian, and possibly another man he has to deal with on top of that. Einian is the one who has grown to love the fierce Xyran warrior, but Nakai isn’t exactly immune to his charms, such as they are, either.

Einian seems to be the weakest of the three men, and in physical terms, he is certainly not a muscle-packed fighter. But his mental resilience and inner determination are what set him apart, and that is before you start counting his ability to build bridges between himself and two aliens who normally would end up killing each other. Needless to say, I admired him a lot.

Sukh is such an impenetrable rock in the beginning, I wasn’t sure what to think of him. Like Nakai, I had to take Einian’s word for it and believe that there was more to the Xyran than a first, and even a second, glance implied. I cannot say that I ended up loving him, but I grew to respect him and understood him a lot better by the end of the story than I did at the beginning.

If you like wild stories about hot alien-human three-way relationships, if you want to find out more about a rather complicated relationship between beings who start out as enemies, and if you’re looking for a read that is as full of treacherous actions as it is of hot loving, then you will probably enjoy this novella.

Another m/m/m story that called my name.

The blurb is pretty accurate, Nakai comes from a planet with very few females, that’s why human females are highly prized. Lucky for him, he doesn’t really want a female, but the male human Einian, even badly beaten is exactly what he wants.

But there is a catch (isn’t there always). Einian was the sex-slave of Sukh and despite difficult circumstances ( I have to admit, I wasn’t happy with how Einian was treated before by Xyran, even if I understood that it was necessary in the tribal-warlike culture on Xyran) he is in love with Sukh and Nakai is a very understanding alien and wants what’s best for his mate. Plus something about the other alien pulls at him too.

So he sets out to woo them both, there is some intrigue and deceit, some world building and some sex, although not as much as I would have thought.
All in all a good ménage, with two big alpha males and a cute little fragile human.

I've read from this author in the past and I have to say that I've seen a pattern in regards to the writing style. I find the author says what is happening without showing it to the reader in a descriptive way. The writing isn't bad, but I find I have a hard time getting into the story(s). Besides the main characters seemed to spend more time away from each other than I would have expected, certainly when it comes to the time needed to develop strong feelings. Maybe it's just the insta-love-lust going on or the idea that these are aliens that gave that process a back seat to the story. It truly has potential this story, but I have a hard time following the flow and I find it confusing with the sudden development of affection. I have to say this isn't for me and I don't know if I will try anymore stories from this author in the future.

“Captive” is told purely from Nakai’s POV, but even so, you still get a good feel for all the characters and the world he lives in. Nakai discovers Einian in the captain’s quarters of a captured Xyran ship and the human’s only words before he blacks out are about the only Xyran left on the ship.

Most of this story is actually set on Nakai’s home planet. Pelaam wove the details of the Alphan society very smoothly into the story, leaving me with a strong impression of the world and people around Nakai. And even though not a lot is said about it, Sukh’s reactions show some of Xyran society. I must admit, hearing that human society was in decline made me laugh, mostly because it goes back to classic sci-fi stories where humans are well and truly outmatched by other events and/or beings in the universe.

“Captive” reads very smoothly and shows how much Pelaam has learnt since her fan-fic days. It is very much a romance set in a science fiction background, and although Nakai’s instant desire for Einian as his mate screams of insta-love, it is not a sure thing and only Nakai’s actions in regards to Einian and Sukh help guide the relationship in that direction.

I would recommend this for readers of romance who like an easy, enjoyable book where the romance is the only plot. It is definitely one of the best books by Pelaam I’ve read yet.

Hearts on Fire Review

Original Review Published here: http://heartsonfirereviews.com/?p=29427

Captive is the fourth book in the Plant Alpha series by Pelaam. This book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel with ease.

Nakai is an Alphan warrior that Captures a Xyran pirate ship and finds two people that seem to steal his heart. Nakai gets to know both men wanting not to push them to fall for him unless they want to. Einian is a human male that has been kept as a sex slave by Sukh. Einian loves his master. Einian is a sexy man who captures the attention the men around him. Sukh is a Xyran who loves Einian and seems to struggle with the dealing with his feelings when they were not valued on his home planet.

The connection between the three, Nakai, Einian, and Sukh is intense. Trust is a very delicate thing and the three seems intent to trust each other. The three of them struggle against each other to make their relationship work.

I found this book very well written with an interesting plot. The main characters and secondary characters are enthralling. The ending of this book while a bit predictable, was interesting to see how the trio comes together. At 77 pages, this book has a well thought out beginning, middle, and ending. Overall, this was a wonderful book.

Really... I just can't believe those dialogs. They were over the top cheesy. Everybody was overly nice. Bad guy was just crazy. The Alphan guy basically just left them alone. That is not courtship. Most of the book they were by themselves, reading books and stuff. And then since he was so gracious to let them in his house and not bothering them with his person they fell in love with him. When something important happened in the book the author just described it to us, not bothering to show it. (Two chacaracters just made some fuss dear readers, they fought and stuff. No matter. Lets talk about how they stay in their own rooms afterwards) There was no chacaracter development, they were all two dimensional. Sex did not even exist until the end and even then, it was dry. So one star. Sorry.
