"Let the Games Begin!" Part One: The future looks bright when brilliant and benevolent Dr. Light unveils his latest creations: the Robot Masters! But when the nefarious Dr. Wily steals them for his own sinister purposes, there is no one left to stop him. No one - except Mega Man! Don't miss the first issue of this brand new ongoing series!
I won't rate this because, well, it's a 20-odd page Mega Man comic, but I WILL SAY that it's about as close to playing a late '80s NES game experience in comic form as imaginable.
I read this issue years ago, but have not been able to work through this series as I have wanted. I saw that this issue was fairly cheap, so I decided to revisit it to see if I want to seek out the rest of the issues.
I am so happy that this series exists. I know that it ended some time ago and that there are currently no known plans to continue, but I can definitely say that this is my personal MegaMan canon. The way MegaMan is characterized in this book (and the series as a whole) is of a robot who wants to do good despite his personal flaws. I think they did a fantastic job at giving him a real character rather than making him solely a do-good robot with no flaws.
This issue sets the groundwork for the beginning of the first MegaMan game. I want to continue reading through it during the rest of the year and will hopefully be able to finally fully enjoy this great work that Archie Comics did.
