My debut novel, The Odd Job Squad, a story for mid-grade readers about an anonymous revenge club was released last summer. I've recently released a second novel, Instant Preplay, which is also for mid-grade readers.

The writing quite solid, i enjoy it, but my anticipation on their 'Con' against the bad guy sliding fast the moment the con revealed. Sort of anticlimax for me.
And the ending not satisfying, it's just..that.

“My people are usually the wait staff, but if the white girl wants to serve the Mexican girl for a change, who am I to complain?” –Renee (4)

Chris, Renee, and Anita are the great trio. They are part of the unemployed pact with big dreams yet to be fulfilled and little mouths that constantly need to be fed. Pinching pennies is something Anita knows all too well. To top it all off, she’s also getting zilch from her cheating ex-husband and she’s being sued by her former boss. Nice, huh?

“In every company, there are workers and visionaries…You three ladies are workers…But I’m a visionary. I see the big picture. It’s my job to see where the company is headed and plot a path to make sure it gets there…Not everyone is cut out to be a CEO.” –Anita’s Former Boss (13)

Well, that’s just all but daring them to get their product idea out and finally start their own business.

“We’re smart, we’re good at our job, and we’re all good people. But when it comes to doing the dirty work, we don’t have a clue.”—Anita (21)

Yep, getting your hands on people’s money might be a lot harder to achieve.

Quick and easy to read, the story is infused with likable characters along with witty commentaries about the economy and the cruel business industry. You can’t help cheering on as Anita fights the shady dealings of a music producer; you can’t help being on the brink of tears when she discovers her car was stolen and destroyed beyond recognition at a chop shop. Fields created such relatable characters that you’ll laugh and cry along with them. All the drama concerning the kids didn’t appeal to me so much. No doubt about it that kids are very hectic—that’s why I’m glad I don’t have any. There was also a giant mystery concerning this “con” Anita and her crew were going to pull. What were they going to do exactly—kill the boss or beat him at his own game? I was suspecting it to be the ladder as their efforts concentrated more on getting the business started using little resources and funds for M.O.M. Con (a parenting convention.) Perhaps I anticipated a comedic ploy similar to the Dolly Parton movie, 9 to 5. Instead Anita was like Diane Keaton in The First Wives Club—intelligent and reserved while also cunning enough to make them (her boss, her ex) pay. Like they said in the movie, “Don’t get mad, get everything.”

A good story for those hard-working, fast-moving, single people with no money, a lot on their minds, and the strong will to survive. You don’t have to be a mom to enjoy this book!

I had a great time reading this book! It's well-written, with a stable of interesting characters and lots of wit and humor. I usually skim sections about sports, but when the story moved to a golf course for a minute, this line held my interest: "He fished another ball from the pile on the ground, took his address and spanked the ball skyward." And there are plenty of good descriptive phrases about the characters and settings as well. The last few pages are a lead-in to another book in the series, which of course I found intriguing! I kept finding myself thinking that this would be a really fun movie!

I got this book for free from Amazon, and I am glad that I did because it really would have cheesed my crackers to have paid money for it. It's not that I hated this book, it's just that it was "fine." I was frustrated by the antagonists, didn't feel much of a connection to the protagonists and the plot just plodded along. Finally at the end there's this random cliff hanger as if trying to tempt me to read the next book. I didn't even know this was the first book in a series, so imagine my irritation to have presumed closure only to have that jerked away in a two paragraph "but wait, there's more" fashion.

I really loved this book. It is a perfect for weekends or holidays. I would honestly like to read its sequels every weekend. It is fun and easy - just the right thing when you want to relax. There are dirtbags and douchebags ( not necessarily in that order) and moms ready to strike back. I appreciate that the author decided against over explaining the master plan. As it unfolds everything is perfectly clear without the reader being overwhelmed with bunch of unneeded details. And that cliffhanger... I definitely want to know what happens next.

I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When Anita, Renee and Chris are sacked from their job they don't mind too much as in their spare time they had been developing a revolutionary new product.

Along comes Evan their ex boss and accuses them of espionage.

After the court date the girls rightfully are after revenge.

What ensues is nothing short of brilliant.

With a whole host of colourful characters Mom Con is a funny and delightful read.

Very well paced storyline which left a smile on my face. I loved this book.

Not my usual sort of thing. :)

Three single mothers try to start their own business, but are sued by their unscrupulous former boss (who has a judge in his pocket). They decide to pursue con-man methods to straighten their lives back out. All aboveboard of course.

Very cute. Sometimes I couldn't understand where the characters were coming from (because I'm not a mom? because they're not normal? because I'm not Southern?), but overall: cute. I've bought the next one in the series to decide whether I liked it or not.

A great way to spend a rainy weekend - reading Mom Con by Karl Fields (aka K Morris).

When three friends working together at a maternity products company lose their joint creation of The One Touch appliance to the company owner Evan Goodrich, and then get laid-off, instead of giving up the decide to get even.

A great cast of characters, a cunning scam, and enough side issues to keep a reader interested, it makes you wish you could follow them on another adventure.

Vicarious Thrills

For every woman who has been patronized, marginalized, underappreciated, or screwed over by a company that steals your ideas, this is a great release. of course it is fiction, of course it is unlikely as well as unlawful, but it sure feels good to read about it.

Awesome

I love the fact that the characters in this story were smart, educated and independent women. They were very realistic and entertaining. I can not wait to read the next book.

Reminded me a bit of The Sting with female leads. They get their revenge on their boss who stole their idea (after laying them off) so what's not to like. It does end rather abruptly, so I'm betting on a sequel.

.con

Although I would not want to be a con artist, it is really fun to see these girls get back at the men who took advantage of them. I enjoyed reading it.
