If a cat-riding Witch tells you she’s the Keeper of the Unicorns, would you believe her? If she tells you it’s your destiny to let the world know what really happened to the Unicorns, would you do it?
Thinking he’s having either a daydream or suffering from food poisoning, Mike scoffs at the witch. The next thing he knows, he’s a potato chip laying on the table. Potato skin trembling in fear, in horror he wonders who will eat him first, the cockroach or his girlfriend? Will he wake up in time?
Born and raised in Omaha Ne. I met the love of my life here and we were together for 30 years before he passed on 12-25-12. The stories that I'm publishing are his brain children. He loved writing, but never had any luck getting his stories published back in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
So now, with the advent of self-publishing and him glaring over my shoulder, I'm finally able to bring his children to life for the world of readers. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. He had a wonderful but dark imagination. So much of himself and me are in these characters.
As authors our recognition comes from readers and their reviews. So please leave a review, whether good or bad, when done. They will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Sahara Foley’s “Keeper of the Unicorns” - A Snappy Little Yarn 5 stars I first thought “Keeper of the Unicorns” would be a mystical tale of magical, beautiful winged creatures being “kept” safe by a heroic prince of the celestial forest. What a surprise. A delightful surprise. This short story tells of an earthy guy named Mike who swears he’s having a “daydream” when a leprechaun-ish little character appears before his eyes and spins an unbelievable yarn about a curse placed upon unicorns to turn them into...well, I won’t spoil it. But they meow. To teach Mike a lesson as a non-believer he is turned into a - well, I won’t spoil it - into something you can never eat just one of. After reading this tale you’ll never want to eat even one of them ever again! This is a yummy story that never quite goes where you expect it to, testing Mike’s and our notion of what is real and what is an illusion. And the ending is a great punch line!
This is not the first story by this author that I have read, but it is a different genre. I can hear their voice in the work, but it feels a little rough around the edges still. The concept of the story is fascinating - no spoilers! - and I would absolutely want to continue the story. The characters are interesting and entertaining. The plot feels fresh and the world created is accessible, but still mysterious. The dialogue and description of action felt clunky at times, which is the only thing that took me out of the story.
I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy - mixed with a bit of humor and mischief!
Sly, amusing adventure brings you face to face with a cat-riding witch who knows the secret of where the unicorns have gone. A fun read for the young and young at heart.
The book blurb sums it up, less the final five or six paragraphs. Written legibly, thus the two stars instead of one. No substance here. Recommend anyone to skip it.
This is such an interesting story. It is both entertaining and disturbing. As someone with OCD and having gone through cognitive behavioral therapy, the aspects about texture really resonate with me on an odd level. LOL
What I like is how this story is so out-of-the-box. Nothing about it is what I expected. Without giving anything away, I thought the coming apart while identifying where one's awareness was was brilliant.
What I didn't like plays into my OCD, once again - the trash and cockroach. Hmmm...
I do recommend this. It is a unique short story for fantasy readers. It would be a fun way to pass the time during a commute, waiting for an appointment, or just while enjoying your favorite beverage!
