He was the last man she ever wanted to turn to. Now, he’s the only one she can’t live without.
Lady Elodie Lockwood is content with being a wallflower, but fate has other plans. Declared the diamond of the Season by the queen herself, she finds herself the unwilling focus of Society’s relentless gaze—a situation that feels more like a curse than a blessing. When a single misstep leads to scandal, Elodie is forced to seek help from an unlikely Lord Belview, her childhood nemesis.
Anthony Sackville, Viscount Belview, has troubles of his own. Tasked with reining in his brother’s reckless ways, he’s already juggling enough when a young child is left on his doorstep, claiming to be his niece. Determined to shield the innocent girl from the chaos surrounding her father, Anthony turns to the one person he believes has the poise and grace to manage the impossible—Lady Elodie.
Together, Elodie and Anthony form a surprising attachment that runs far deeper than friendship. But before they can explore these new feelings, they must face unexpected opposition tied to their standing in Society. With Elodie under pressure from an eager suitor and Anthony burdened by family obligations, can they defy convention and carve out a path to happiness?

I have been waiting, somewhat impatiently, from book one for Elodie’s story and it’s finally here! Let me tell you it does not disappoint! I loved it so much!!!! Ahhh!! So so good! I cannot say enough good things! Elodie is hilarious! You never know what she is going to say or do. Literally unpredictable, I was laughing so much! Anthony is her perfect match! He is very responsible and makes sure his family is taken care of. He has his brother’s problems thrown at him, one being his brother’s 4 year old daughter, and he steps up and takes care of his niece when his brother won’t. Anthony and Elodie together are perfection! The way they banter and tease each other is so fun! I also loved Elodie’s siblings who are back in this story! Their whole family is great. I do recommend reading these books in order. Overall, a fantastic story and I highly recommend it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I read this entire book in one day, which should tell you just how much I loved it. I seriously adore the Lockwood family and was so ready to be back with them. And yes, I totally play favorites when it comes to fictional characters...Elodie is my favorite, hands down. Between the buttered bread, unicorns, mooing, Lord Henry, Lulu, and her rusty nail, I couldn’t keep up with all her wild moments, and I loved it all!
Elodie and Anthony have always been at odds, but let's be honest, they both enjoy their back-and-forth. Now that Elodie has been named the diamond of the season and is catching everyone's attention, Anthony is starting to feel the pressure to finally speak up about his feelings, before it's too late! But with Elodie, nothing is ever simple. She’s not impressed with her long list of suitors, and in the middle of all the chaos, she starts to see Anthony a little differently. Still, with all the attention and a threat to her reputation, her heart’s being pulled in a lot of directions. Will she realize the right guy has been in front of her all along?
If you're in the mood for a swoony romance, a fun and loveable family you’ll wish you could hang out with, and some serious laugh-out-loud moments, this is the book for you.
I gave this sweet romance a 4.5, rounded up to the stars.
I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.
I absolutely adore the playful banter between the two characters. He confesses his feelings, expressing his desire to marry her and love her just as she is. However, she takes it as a joke, insisting she’ll never marry him. His talent for flirtation is captivating, especially when he throws in a wink that drives her wild. In a charming twist, he takes her for a ride in the park, making her promise not to kiss him.
Elodie is utterly unique, delightfully quirky, and full of charm. Anthony is the perfect blend of charm, love, protectiveness, and reliability. With tropes like neighbors to lovers, best friend’s brother to lovers, and forced proximity, this story has all the ingredients for romance. I’m a fan of the dual POV, which adds depth to the narrative. There's so much to enjoy here! I highly recommend getting a copy and experiencing it for yourself.
I received a complimentary e-copy of this book and read it with pleasure. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.
A Lady’s Mishap (The Lockwood Series #5) by: @author_laura_beers
I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~He was the last man she ever wanted to turn to. Now, he’s the only one she can’t live without…
“I promise you that I will not let you fall.”
-A Lady’s Mishap, is a wonderful light-hearted, clean and wholesome romance set in the dear Regency era. You should know that this is a fantastic conclusion to the Lockwood Series, where each book has their own Happily-Ever-After and in my opinion, are best enjoyed in proper order for ultimate satisfaction and happiness!
A Lady’s Mishap is no exception and is filled with such lovely witty banter, a satisfying touch of mystery and suspense, delightful humor, sparks of chemistry, heartfelt tender moments, and lots of swoon. It’s a story of endearing and relatable characters, who rise above obstacles with bravery and grace. Getting glimpses of beloved family members throughout was such a sweet bonus. I loved the beautiful emphasis that everyone has flaws and what we choose to do with them makes a difference-whether for the better or worse. Also, I loved seeing dear characters come to realize what true love is and to not let go! This is a delightful story and series worth reading any day! 🙌🏻📚🩷
“Everyone has flaws. It doesn’t mean that you are broken or imperfect. You can either live with them, or you can change them. It is your choice. But your strengths and weaknesses have made you into an incredible young person.”
•Content: some alcohol, a side character (gambling debts, child out of wedlock), sickly parent, death off page of side family member, blackmail, kisses only.
“You are capable of far more than you realize. You will take this Season by storm.”
-I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
“You are doing the best that you can, and that is what matters.”
Elodie is the most charming and hilarious regency heroine. Her adoration of naps and perfectly buttered bread never ceases to bring me joy. She marches to the beat of her own drum, speaking her mind openly, much to the chagrin of her parents.
Anthony has the weight of his family’s livelihood on his shoulders. He takes his responsibilities seriously, unlike his wastrel of a brother. He’s gentle, kind, loving, and has a bit of a mischievous side, especially when it comes to Elodie. He enjoys vexing her.
The banter that Laura writes is superb! I live for sarcastic quips and comebacks and Elodie is full of them. She has no qualms about who the recipient is.
"It might be best if you avoid speaking to people this evening."
"That is my goal every time I attend a social event."

The Lockwood family dinner conversations are a character unto themselves. I love the random hilarity that ensues.

The Lockwood Family series books have it all. Beautifully written with spectacular imagery, swoony romances, a touch of intrigue, hilarious antics, and a family unlike any other. I have adored each one and am saddened to see the end. Truly a pleasure that will be reread often.
Thank you to Laura Beers for the copy. All opinions are my own.
I'm so sad that this wonderful series has come to an end. 😥 It's been such a comfort to me, I always know when I start one, I'll immediately get sucked into it, won't be able to put it down, and it'll just feel like home. 🩷
If you've read any of these, you've probably anticipated Elodie's story as well. 😅 She's always stood out in the family, and been one of a kind. But reading this book about her, it really shows you a different side of her, her struggles deep down, and her desires.
I'd really hoped Anthony would paired with Elodie, they've always been perfect for each other. 🩷 Anthony's side of the story in this book was very surprising, and made it even more special. There just was never a dull moment, and I loved every second of it! 🩷
If you enjoy a clean, closed-door regency romance, then I highly recommend it! 🩷
*I received an e-ARC copy, all opinions are my own
“You will never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice. And I think, dear sister, you are one of the strongest people I know.”
Elodie! What a fantastic conclusion to the Lockwood family’s stories. Not only do we get Elodie’s happily-ever-after but we get to see Bennett, Winston, Melody, and their spouses! The witty banter between the family members and Elodie and Anthony kept a smile on my face. I loved the dash of mystery and suspense that Elodie and Anthony faced as well.
Elodie is so funny! She’s brilliant, witty, and determined to only marry for love. Her enemies-to friends-to more relationship with Anthony was fantastic. Anthony is intelligent, dutiful, kind, loving, and so witty. I adored his relationship with little Emma.
A few quotes: “I want someone who is always there. Someone who sees me—truly sees me—flaws and all. I want… love.”
“Careful Elodie, you are making it sound as if you enjoy my company.” “Then I must have misspoken. “
This ARC was provided by the author. I was not required to give a positive review, rating and opinions are my own.
A wonderful book This book combines enemies to lovers, evil doers, threats from unexpected places, and a woman who you never can tell what she will say next. Elodie is ready to be presented to the queen and she has been taught and re-taught what to say and do. However, when the queen makes a comment, Elodie’s quick wit takes charge and the queen is soon laughing. Thus, Elodie becomes the most sought after young woman of the season. Something she didn’t want. She wants a love match but how to know with so many men vying for her attention. Through it all, Anthony, a neighbor and childhood friend to her and her brothers, stands by her side guiding and protecting as a friend. As they begin to face challenges and even threats together their relationship changes also. But will the changes be welcomed by both or will their relationship end? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
I love that we get to see more of Elodie and Anthony in this story! I am sad to see the end of the series for the Lockwood family but this was a fantastic ending to the series!
I received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
This last installment of this series has what we love about all our regency novels, the intrigue, societal expectations, escaping into a historical setting, slow-burn romance, full of quick-witted dialogue and giggle inducing banter. What sets this apart, are the challenges these characters face which drew me in and made it more compelling. A very entertaining series with an endearing family. These will always be in my physical collection so I can revisit them from time to time.
Our heroine, Elodie, is ushered into society bracing for the dissonance between the long-held expectation of having her twin sister at her side to brave the season together and the altered solitary reality now that her sister has been married. After her successful presentation to the queen, she has been named The Diamond of the First Water which places societies attention and scrutiny on her and where avoiding scandal is a constant and tiresome concern with every action. To make matters worse, their neighbor in London and her childhood friend/nemesis is also attending the season, possessing a knack for interrupting her essential afternoon naps. Unable to ignore his troubled state and despite his constant flirting and jokes about marrying her, she is drawn into his cares and tries to alleviate and assist where she can.
Anthony Sackville, Viscount Belview is burdened with his brother Stephens frivolous lifestyle and dangerous overspending- habits that could damage the stability of the family estate he is trying to maintain. Their father, the Earl of Kinwick, is gravely ill and confined to the country estate under their mother's care, but insists Anthony remains in London to attend the season. When the consequences of Stephens actions begin to appear, he refuses to cooperate and remains defiant of the situation-convinced the estate owes him recompense simply for being the overlooked second son. A child, blackmail threats and gambling debt collectors are now Anthony's responsibility as well as navigating the delicate task of being honest with his parents to not further complicate his father's health. Easing some of his burdens is the girl next door—someone he enjoys teasing and jokes about marrying her though there's more truth in his playful words than he cares to admit.
Warning: "Her mother was a whore" is said in front of a 4 year old child.
This is the fifth book in The Lockwood Family series, and the third that I have read, and each one is an absolute delight!
I have so looked forward to Elodie’s story because of her spunk and wit. She was so funny in Melody’s story and it was just so special to get to watch her find love.
Elodie’s good humor, sarcasm, and headstrong personality made her such a strong and entertaining character. If she was real I would absolutely want her as my best friend. She is so incredibly loyal and caring towards those she loves and is not afraid to stand up for herself or for others. The nail is also still hilarious (you’ll know what I mean if you’ve read A Shadowed Charade). Elodie doesn’t give two hoots about society or the opinions of others and she lives her life loudly and proudly. I think we could all use her strength.
Anthony is an absolute dream of a man. He is so protective of his family and Elodie and does everything he can to protect them. His wit and banter with Elodie will make you blush and giggle and honestly can he just be real, please? I loved how loyal and protective he was towards all those he cared for, and even some he didn’t when they needed help.
For once, the friends-to-lovers fear of “what if this changes everything” was done in a way that it felt BELIEVABLE! I am not the biggest fan of that trope for the very reason that it just doesn’t seem realistic but Laura did a phenomenal job with these two.
The baddies in this story were absolutely despicable and was so satisfied with their comeuppance.
Thank you so much to Laura for including me on her ARC team for this book. All opinions stated are my own and EVERYONE who loves regency romance needs to check this book, and this series, out now!
Content warning: Potential spoilers Alcoholic character Attempted forced marriage Violence (guy gets rightfully punched a couple times) Death of a character (off-page, non-graphic) Character with cancer (on-page, non-graphic, very little details besides sick) No language Clean kisses only
It was a bittersweet read to enjoy the final book in this series. Elodie, one of the Lockwood twins is by far my favorite. She is so funny with the humorous things that come out of her mouth. Her family loves her deeply and only hope that she will have an enjoyable season while looking for a love match. There is no pressure from her family that she has to marry right away or that they will choose her husband, she has a great degree of freedom in this realm.
But after being presented to court and the Queen selecting Elodie as the "Diamond of the Season", every bachelor in town is vying for her attention. This was the last thing Elodie wanted on her plate. Her only goal was to try and not trip or embarrass herself. Now she's really have to rise to the occasion.
She does so splendidly though and gets a lot of witty cracks in at suitors that go completely unnoticed. While navigating all of this fun, she is drawn more and more to her vexing neighbor Anthony whom she has known her entire life.
Things are quickly changing between them and they are spending more and more time together. Anthony was a "heart of gold" character - he is always thinking about others and how to be helpful or charming. He realizes early on his feelings for Elodie, but assumes she could never return those feelings, so he stays at an arms length and just tries to make her happy. He has his own family problems to contend with throughout this book, including his brother's gambling problems and the danger those kind of debts bring about.
Elodie and Anthony navigate their way through this growing attraction and it's actually Elodie who has a harder time coming to the realization that her feelings are as deep as they are. With lots of family cajoling and pushing her in the right direction, she eventually finds her own happiness.
I'll be sad to see the Lockwood family end, but I cannot wait for the next series that Laura has coming out!
I've been waiting for Elodie's story for so long! She's such a fun character, and I was excited to finally get her story.
Lady Elodie Lockwood is perfectly content blending into the background as a wallflower—so when the queen herself names Elodie the diamond of the Season, she's anything but thrilled. Suddenly, the center of Society’s attention, Elodie finds herself in a situation she never asked for. And when a scandal puts her reputation at risk, the last person she expects to turn to for help is Lord Anthony Belview—her childhood nemesis.
Anthony Sackville, Viscount Belview, is a man with a lot on his plate. Between trying to keep his reckless younger brother out of trouble and taking in a surprise niece, his life is more chaotic than he'd like. He needs someone who can bring some calm to the storm, and Elodie, with her steady presence and natural grace, seems like the perfect person to help.
These two have had an adversarial relationship for years. They bicker like siblings, but I always felt they would make a wonderful couple! I loved watching their partnership as Elodie helps with young Emma, and Anthony helps Elodie with unwanted suitors. They have great chemistry, and the banter is top tier.
There's so much to love about Elodie: she's unabashedly a bluestocking, she sews clothes for her animals, she's so sweet with Emma, you never know what she's going to say, and she loves naps!! Anthony is a wonderful character, and I loved how much he cared for Elodie.
This is the last book in the Lockwood family series, and I've loved getting to know all the members in this amazing family. Each can be read as a standalone, but I think once you read one of them, you'll want to go back and read them all.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Laura was an absolute genius getting us so ready for this story. We've laughed along with the antics of Melody and Elodie for five books now, with each giving us just a little bit more. The last story was such a perfect set-up for A Lady's Mishap after the twins survived an abduction, and both are forever changed. We don't have to stop laughing at Elodie's unique take on the world and her desire for a love match, though!
Elodie has considered herself the lesser of the twins... less graceful, less talented, less magnetic... but when her silly exchange with the Queen gets her named as the season's diamond, Elodie isn't sure she can live up to the title... and nor does she even know if she wants to.
Enter Anthony, the boy-next-door, who has been a thorn in Elodie's side but has sworn his allegiance to her to survive the season. The exchanges between these two are so unconventional and hilarious. From grapes to unicorns, these two cover it all. But scandal for both is what it will take for them to see each other (finally) in a different light. Laura has teased this relationship since the last story, even while we were distracted with Melody's courtship. Anthony and Elodie are magic on the page, and I loved being the proverbial fly on the wall as these two fumble their way to a HEA.
The epilogue is everything. ❤️ There were only so many Lockwood siblings, and now that their stories have ended, I can't wait to see what Laura comes up with next. I will read anything she puts out into the world.
I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
Elodie as she enters her first season just wants to be judged for her wit and intellect and not just her pretty face. She wants a love match. She is funny, sassy, unpredictable, and the things she says had me laughing out loud. When someone wants to ruin her reputation, she turns to Anthony.
I love Anthony and his endless teasing of Elodie! He is charming, protective, and has the weight of family obligations on his shoulders. Oh, and how he flirts with Elodie throwing in an occasional wink that just throws her off balance - it is so fun to watch. He will do anything for her!
Elodie and Anthony once at odds, draw closer together when addressing their own struggles. Anthony knows she’s the one for him, but will she realize he is perfect for her?
A Lady’s Mishap has so much humor and teasing, sarcastic, witty banter. Whether it’s between Elodie and her brothers, Elodie and Anthony, or Elodie and the Queen. It is such a delightfully light-hearted story with some suspense mixed in.
I loved seeing the rest of Elodie’s family again. They have such a strong bond. They protect and look out for each other always. What a wonderful way to wrap up this series!
Some of my favorite things: The reappearance of the nail, Anthony's teasing, Miss Emma, the pet discussions, the perfectly buttered bread, and the family support.
- Regency romance - Protective & honorable MMC - Outspoken & funny FMC - Childhood enemies - Frenemies to more - He falls first - Sarcastic and witty banter
So happy to finally read the story about Lady Elodie Lockwood. She has been in all of the previous books in this series with her quirky statements and of course her perfect buttering of her toast. She was getting ready for her presentation to the queen in the last book along with her identical twin sister Melody. She never expected to make her debut alone as her sister got married in the last book. Each story can stand alone but they are best read in order as the story line continues from book to book.
When her presentation is a success and the queen declares Elodie the diamond of the Season, she feels the weight on her even more. She is surprised when her childhood nemesis Lord Belview steps in to help support her.
Anthony Sackville, Viscount Belview, has been the neighbor to the Lockwood family since their childhood. He has always loved to tease Elodie to see her reaction. He secretly has feelings for her that he has never revealed. He wants to be there for her as she goes into society and hopefully get a chance to let her see his feelings for her. He also turns to her as the many burdens he carries as his father's heir begin to weigh on him. His father is dying, his brother is gambling away the family's money and it was just revealed the brother had secretly eloped years before when a young daughter is dropped on their doorstep.
This story has lots of drama as Elodie and Anthony will be dragged into a scandal. With someone threatening Elodie, Anthony and her brothers with have to protect her reputation. Anthony will also have to discover who is trying to blackmail him about scandal.
This story ties up the Lockwood Family series. Each of the family members have added so much to this series. Each story has been wonderful to read.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
You know a book is good when you have to rearrange your plans so you can finish it sooner rather than later. That is what happened to me when I was reading A Lady’s Mishap, the fifth book in Laura Beer’s The Lockwood Family series. I could not put it down. It was such a delightful story full of so much heart and humor.
The story focuses on Lady Elodie Lockwood as she embarks on her first London Season. I loved how Beers included Elodie’s presentation to the queen in the story. It was so fun to see all the pomp and circumstance from Elodie’s perspective, especially Elodie’s impression of being named a Diamond.
As Elodie tries to survive the Season and her new image as a Diamond, her friendship with her next-door neighbor Lord Anthony Belview starts to change. The teasing and banter between Elodie and Anthony were gold. Every exchange between them was so fresh and unique. I loved how subtle Anthony was with his teasing. It was so well done.
I have not read the other books in the series, so I loved getting to know Elodie’s family. Her brothers were hilarious. I loved the sibling teasing, especially since it reminded me of my own siblings.
This book was adorable. The story flowed beautifully, and the romance was so sweet. I loved how the drama was low angst but so entertaining and real. Elodie and Anthony were so good together. The ending was perfect!
I can’t even tell you how sad I am that this series is over. Elodie’s story did not disappoint and I loved every minute of it!
“He is the first person who has made me feel like I am enough.”
All Elodie wants is someone to love and accept her as she is. She struggles to find her purpose and who can listen to and love her. All Anthony wants is for Elodie not to dislike him and to realize that he’s always been there for her and would do anything to take care of her.
“I want someone who is always there. Someone who sees me– truly seems me–flaws and all. I want…love.”
Presentation to the Queen Her sass His flirting Their Bantering A truce The bent nail Biscuits The wager Puppies Emma ❤️
“I believe that everything happens for a reason. Every single thing, the good and the bad, leads you to right where you are meant to be.”
If you haven’t read the Lockwood family, you need to, like go get it right now. All the books are witty, clever and full of wonderful characters. Anthony and Elodie’s story starts in the other books, since the are childhood neighbors. This book evolves in a beautiful way and I loved how much Anthony cares for everyone. Elodie truly begins to grow into herself when she’s with Anthony and Emma.
“My heart has waited so long to be loved by you. I do not want to wait another day to start living with you.”
Romantic, full of heart, sweet, and emotionally powerful, “The Lady’s Mishap” is a wonderful Regency Romance that kept me turning the pages into the early hours of the morning. Laura Beers has created another beautiful love story in this amazing series, and I simply could not put this book down! Elodie and Anthony have known one another since childhood. Though they didn’t initially get along well, they both are older now, and as this novel progresses, their relationship shifts. As the circumstances in both of their lives change, they turn to one another for help, and through the witty banter, protectiveness, kindness, genuine caring, and so much more, their relationship changes and deepens into a love story. They can truly bring themselves around each other, and they bring out the best in one another. With family and familial relatinships, adorable animals, unexpected turns in the plot, society expectations vs. one’s own heart, danger, naps, and so much more, this book truly has so much in it. What happens? You will just have to read to find out! I highly recommend this novel, and can’t wait to read what Ms. Beers writes next! Thank you so much to Laura Beers for the e-ARC of this incredible book, and for having me on the Launch Team! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
As I’ve read this series I’ve been very curious about Elodie’s book. I liked her from the start, but she seemed a little lost, so I looked forward to seeing her find herself.
Childhood adversaries that thrive on sparing come together in London, where everything is different. Elodie’s season is not what she always anticipated. First her twin is not with her and then she gains much more attention than she expected or desires.
Anthony is juggling taking care of his estate, his ailing father, and his wayward brother. While he and Elodie have not previously talked about serious things, they find it natural to confide in each other about what is going on in their lives. As they slowly put down their verbal weapons, they find there is more to each other and their connection than they previously thought.
I love books where the main characters let someone in to see their vulnerable self. It’s such a risk and yet it has the potential of being about something great. I loved watching this couple slowly open up. I loved the advice they gave each other and watching the progression of their friendship to something much deeper. There are so many great scenes that made me smile. This was such a mood lift to read.
Oh, Elodie and Anthony! They get on each other’s nerves so much that they are sure to turn the corner and see that they really care for one another. I love that Elodie is not afraid to stand up to a nasty lord who is determined to marry her. I laughed each time she encountered him, and I think you will too.
Anthony is in quite an unenviable position because he has to care for his ailing father and his wayward and wastrel of a brother. The gifts of animals that he sends to Elodie are very thoughtful and ones that she had always wanted. He is kind hearted and protective of those who need someone to be there for them.
Things to love: sewing animal clothes protective older brothers adorable niece bluestocking naps mystery caring friends
There were several characters that I hope we will see in future books. Might Lord Westcott, his sister, and the Bow Street Runner be a spinoff series? I’d love to read about each of them.
This is the fifth book in the Lockwood Family series. You can read it as a standalone since the story is not dependent upon the other books. I received a copy of the book. All opinions are my own with no obligation to write a positive review.
I have loved following the Lockwood siblings as they find love in this series. Elodie’s story was a fitting end, but also I am sad to see them go.
Elodie, much to her dismay, makes an impressive debut into society. Anthony has lived next door to Elodie for all their lives and is the bane of her existence. Which is why when Anthony gains an unexpected ward everyone is surprised when he turns to Elodie for help.
Highlights: Elodie’s presentation to the Queen 😂 The pets! How Elodie handles her suitors! Love the sass! The bent nail (IYKYK) and the sibling dynamics
I love Elodie for her wit and sass. I love that she is unpredictable and yet search’s for the best in people.
I love Anthony for being kind and protective. I love his generosity towards Elodie. I love that he is responsible and honorable.
“Just promise me that you won’t throw fruit at gentlemen.” Elodie bit her lower lip, clearly fighting back a laugh. “I can’t promise that, Mother. I am a saver of lives!”
This was an ARC, all thoughts and feelings were my own.
“Ask for a unicorn” 🦄 this line made me giggle uncontrollably. Elodie is precocious and has always had the balance in her twin sister, Melody, who has just been married and is away on her honeymoon. So Elodie is stuck facing her first season with only her brothers and their wives to console her…and it is not the same. Thankfully next door is Anthony, her brother’s friend who lives to torment her in every way possible…and they have a bench she can speak over the wall into his garden without even climbing the stones…so nice. When Anthony’s niece is suddenly brought to him to raise, he isn’t sure how to make her, or any female happy…Elodie is eager to help with the advice above…and then settle for a puppy instead. Or two.
The banter is real in this part of the series. Wow. I absolutely adore the way they create a place of silence and laughter for each other amongst their chaotic lives. They finally see that they do need each other and once they do…it’s magical. What a beautiful story!
Although this book is a standalone and can be read independent of the rest of the series, I got so much more out of this story in particular having read the others first. Anthony and Elodie have been constant characters throughout the series, giving us a history to their relationship as this story begins. Having grown up together, we get to see a relationship that began as childhood animosity develop into friendship and then more. All of our favorite characters from earlier books in the series reappear to help them find their way through the progression of their feelings. There are a couple of well written villains who both receive justified endings. All in all, this is a very satisfying ending to the Lockwood family series.
have been so excited to read Lady Elodie's story! And it did not disappoint! Elodie is delightfully unexpected, and her sense of humor really makes her stand out as a unique and one of a kind heroine. Anthony is a strong hero in his own right, and his determination to do his duty even when it hurts makes him stand out. I loved his devotion to his family and the sweet and genuine way he adores Elodie, even when he doesn't know it yet! This is a refreshing and charming regency romance that is full of: -enemies to friends to lovers -outspoken FMC -protective MMC -adorable animals -favorite characters from the rest of the series! It's so full of goodness that you need to trust you don't want to miss it! Thank you to the author for an arc copy. All thoughts are my own.
After reading all the books in the series, this one was not the one I enjoyed the most. There is a point wherein the characer, Elodie, and her ideas about strange things begins to wear thin. She was so very adamant about NOT having anything to do with Anthony, some of her antics were more silly than readably "cute". The stories in all the books had about the same plots; girl hates guy, girl changes her mind, girl marries guy she hates and then loves. And in the book with Melody, the newest preacher came in and asked her questions about her speaking Russian. It seemed like a disturbance but nothing was followed up on that occurrence. There is comedy in much of it that made up for other the above mentioned issues.
Clean, Enemies to lovers. Two families lived next door to each other. The MC’s grew up together and are 10 years apart. The MMC teased the FMC relentlessly, therefore she hated him. Once the FMC came out to society and was the named the Diamond of the Ball she became very desirable by male suitors. I didn’t really like the FMC, she is such a snob and very rude to the suitors that come to visit her. The MMC started to like to FMC but didn’t want to admit his feelings. One of the main plot points revolves around a child of the MMC younger brother. The brother is despicable and cruel. His behavior resulted in a child and the death of a young woman who he coned into marrying him and then abandoned. It was very dark.
This is a delightful, witty, Regency romance. It is so fun to have Elodie’s story. She is full of life, says what she thinks and is not afraid of what others think of her. Anthony is a dream. He is charming, handsome, loyal, kind, and has a quick wit. I loved watching these two find their way, sometimes the road was bumpy, and there were obstacles thrown in their way, but they managed the obstacles, pushed through their doubt and became better and stronger because of it. This is a sweet, clean, wholesome romance that can be read as a standalone. I do encourage reading the other books in the series as they are all wonderful.
Elodie’s story - Will she find a love match - perhaps in a most unexpected place…nice, clean Regency read - thankfully with a nice, predictable happy ending (which was not necessarily a guarantee considering the unpredictability of Elodie). Throw in the annoyance of handsome next-door neighbor & family friend, Anthony and let the story begin! This Regency read has all of the required elements - romance, a rakish brother, blackmail, and even an attempted kidnapping. Enjoy!
