Blake was searching for simplicity, but fate had other plans. After an unexpected turn of events lands him in the fantastical world of Ylege, he's endowed with extraordinary physical abilities and inherits an unclaimed farmstead at the world's Edge. Things seem to be falling into place until he encounters the gorls—beautiful, magical, sentient slimes.
As Blake learns the ropes of ranching blerps—the smaller, pearl-producing slimes—from mana gorl Glessal and darkness gorl Slanna, work quickly blurs into pleasure, and romance blossoms. Life is idyllic, but prosperity never goes unnoticed. The covetous Sheriff of the nearby town has his eyes on Blake's ranch, pressuring him to prove its profitability or lose it all.
Blake's once undemanding life is now a whirlwind of challenges, from protecting his ranch, to defending his blossoming harem from those who would do them harm. But with the stakes this high, can he hold onto his new life and the gorls who've stolen his heart? Step into a world where ranching meets romance, and where one man's fight for love and livelihood is anything but ordinary.
The plot doesn't have great pacing and ends up feeling like they rush through quite a lot in a short amount of time which really just threw me out of the story.
((Audio Book review)) This is to have at least something for others to go on, I'm horrible at posting reviews right after I listen but I will try to better update this later. I'm just going off memory and read this a couple weeks ago.
This 3 book series was a fun little escape. If you looking for best sellers idk why you are reading books from this category but this was fun. It falls squarely into my "low stress" category meaning even when there is trouble things tend to get wrapped up quickly and everything becomes "right again". While there is much the author seems to leave out and skips forward that could have been enjoyable it does keep this book to a trilogy. While I would have loved more time in the slice of life or adventuring story build up imo many harem series end up getting lost when they by doing this and it's one of the two main reasons I have to put them down (the books). So I'm okay with this being a "snack sized story" and not a 12 course meal of a story.
Have you played the game Slime Rancher? Did you every think "wow I with I could farm my own slimes and fuck slime girls?" Me either but I still enjoyed this book. Jokes aside I will say that the Slime girls and the slimes (live stock) are two completely separate entities in this book. There was a good balance of sex and story though even with slime girls the sex was pretty vanilla/basic which is sad with how creative it could have been.
This first part of the series promised, based on the concept and cover image, some silly bouncy fun (apparently it's based on a game called Slime Rancher which I didn't know but would underscore this expectation). Unfortunately that hope is killed quickly by the wooden and pompous prosa, blech. The story starts ok, with an immediate isekai to a new world (the transition is glossed over even more than normal). The new world has a slime-based biology with small round blurbs and curvy magical gorls, but also dangerous creatures like persecs and keregs. As lighthearted and bouncy as most of the involved characters are, so plodding and leaden is much of the prosa, with gems such as "She stepped forward, offering a simple nod and a smile hinting at depths of gratitude words couldn't express" or "a bond ignited between us, fierce and more profound than any I had known before". Taken out of context these phrases don't seem so bad, but believe me when I say that if large parts of the book are like this it quickly becomes annoying. In the audio book Jessica Threet, the female voice actor who I like well enough in some of her other performances, also features a very annoying croaky girl voice for one of the characters. So, even though I liked the setting and story I DNF at 75%.
And by Slime Rancher I mean the game. I love the mellow low pressure feel that game and that part of the story has.
What I disliked was the corupt sherriff angle. Not only have I seen it way more than I'd like. I also thought it clashed with the mellow shtick most of the story had going. Not to mention how much is he making up and how much is just liberal application of laws. It really feels like the people are bound by propriety that only exists for them regardless of what morés the sherriff violates... flagrantly. Frustrating. Can anyone say overthrow the empire?
With that said, it's fun and original outside of that. Probably read the next book some time, maybe. Anyone not put off by the corrupt local official but likes harem stuff will probably love this.
The world itself is well built and interesting. The MC not instantly understanding it helps colour the oddness.
Sadly the author doesn't reconcile the MCs power which he displays publicly with the nearby antagonists response to him at all. It is also jarring that the MC struggles to take steps to protect his assets once the threat is identified.
This also shows up with the provided lore about how the town faire has a massive impact due to issues it has causes historically. Great and well thought out history, wonky MC vs antagonist and minions in the run up.
It is not a bad book, and there is a lot of potential there, but I find it hard to stay invested in the antagonists plot when it seems the antagonist isn't invested in it.
Definitely a fun and unique world that Leon West has written and I quite enjoyed reading it from front to back.
One star less as there were a few grammatical errors such as using a character's name before the MC had learned it, and a couple of references to events that didn't happen or happened off page without explanation, so needs some further proof-reading, but otherwise solidly good start!
I devoured Slime Keeper, expecting a familiar isekai tale, but discovered a unique gem! This indie novel seamlessly blends slice-of-life, harem, and RPG elements with a dash of drama and action. I couldn't help but smile throughout. The mature character dynamics were a welcome change from the usual flirtations in similar anime stories. If you're an anime, manga, or RPG gaming fan, give Slime Keeper a try!
The first two-thirds of this novel are very solid. So much so that it carries a weak conclusion up to four stars. It feels like the author was rushed in the last part of the book and didn’t have time to review their work. As always, an editor would help. Also, the plot just sort of…fades away. Having some sort of resolution would have helped. Still, I’ll give book two a read.
3.5 stars. Pretty much what you'd expect from the cover and blurb, but actually less sex than I expected. That is a good thing in this context, as I find a lot of authors in this genre pad their books with far too many sex scenes for what they contribute to the story. It got a bit sloppy toward the end, but overall pretty much a light slice-of-life book.
Right from the start it had me reading it in one sitting. The infancy was fantastic, could has used a bit more. But I still couldn't get enough. The action keep me going. This slice of life fantasy is exactly my kinda read. I highly recommend this book to all.
I edited the story and am eager to continue reading more. The charges are am fun and interesting. The plotline is enjoyable and adventurous. The relationships are all developing through out the story.
A cozy isekai harem LitRPG in a setting inspired by games like Stardew Valley. It's fine. Broadly pleasant characters in a mostly low stakes setting that are decently enjoyable to read about. The combat scenes all went on a bit longer than they needed to but other than that I have no complaints.
A slimy and sticky adventure that I won't soon forget. I love the characters and they are really well developed (in more than one way). The romance that the main character were believable which is one of the main reasons I loved this series.
I like this but it glossed over alot of things that I actually wanted to hear like exactly what he was working on at the farm it would say he was tired from working all day but never say what. Alot of details were glossed over alot of things not said 🤔 alot of confusing aspects of the new world he found himself in the story kind of jumped from one thing into something else. And it's a very slow woo-woo burn I hate overly mushy books but some love it I feel like this is more of a slice of life book which I don't really like hoped this was different but no they danced around each for almost 5 hours hopefully after he gets #1 out of the way the story will pick up. And the idiot went around town on his first visit telling everyone where he lived and would have told everyone he was human if not for the 2 girls 🙄 DNF
