Collateral Damage-Part 1 picks up where Overkill-The Beginning left off. We get more information about what really happened five years earlier that sent these highly trained women into hiding.
There is a ton of action, once again, and the author continues to add depth in subtle layers. The characters, who already were interesting and attention-grabbing in the first episode, now become even more so as we dig deeper into who these highly trained soldiers are.
The aftermath of the tragedy that they were embroiled in has affected them all deeply. Collateral Damage takes the story further by diving into what went wrong in the past, while offering danger and some close calls in the present as the team works to determine who is trying to take them down. Will Team Zulu be able to stop any more collateral damage from occurring? This installment is just as fabulous as the first and I am on pins and needles waiting to read the next!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.
Taking off where Overkill left off, Collateral Damage ramps up the intensity of team Zulu faster than a heat-seeking missal acquiring a target. Ronie artfully weaves the story of Annie, Téya, Nuala, Boone, and Trace, among other characters, in a way that keeps you turning the virtual pages.
From the moment you open Collateral Damage, the adrenaline gets pumping as Nuala is introduced and team Zulu is faced with the seemingly insurmountable task of finding out why Misrata happened in the first place. LTC Trace Weston has his work cut out for him as he wrestles against old information and years of silence between him and his team. Will they find a new lead to the case? Can he protect the remaining girls or will he fail them like the others?
Time is running out as the unseen enemy seems to get closer every time.
Part 1 is everything you’d want in a fast, action-packed novel and more! Ronie paints a masterful scene that is only heightened by the varying viewpoints of the team and those in positions of power. I recommend reading Overkill first (it’s the perfect introduction) and then hopping on over to Amazon and getting Part 2, because you will not be able to rest until you know what happens!

Operation Zulu Redemption: Collateral Damage -- Part 1
4 STARS
I was not ready for this episode to be over! I tried to see what the future episodes were about by reading on Amazon and they all say the same thing! So no helpful hints for me.
Lots of drama, action starts right from the beginning of Collateral Damage and goes till the end. The characters we learn a little more about them especially one of the deceased Zulu members Jamie. I like her apartment!
We meet a few new characters in this episode. Like Lieutent Francesca Solomon's family. She wants to prove that her father was innocent and place the blame on Trace Weston where she knows it belongs. She is sure he is guilty and thinks he is killing the women and covering it up.
The setting for this book is the United States. They go to a few different states from Washington to Nevada to Colorado.
We learn a little more about what happened five years ago. I know who I don't trust but it is probably a red herring this early into the series.
The women are ready to fight back.
There were cliffhangers from the Beginning and they were resolved besides the guilty parties ect. There are new cliffhangers in Collateral Damage. They leave you anxious to keep reading and being involved in their lives.
I like the characters. I don't know who I want Annie to be with. Teya wants to go back to the Amish life she left and that seems like it would be a big obstacle to overcome.
I was given this ebook to read so that I could give it a honest review of it by Net Galley, Barbour Publishing, Inc. Shiloh Run Studios
"You need to know that while we might be soldiers, we're also women. We fight hard and we don't give up, but we also don't abandon those we love."
A past beyond repair, a present that is vastly unstable and a future that appears totally unknown; the remnants of Team ZULU who remain alive, desperately want "redemption"; "to prove that they aren't the cold, calloused killers they were made out to be". But redemption is carrying a high price tag; those that they dare to love, as well as innocent bystanders, are being caught up in the vortex of "collateral damage".
Former Special Operations soldiers Annie, Teya, and Nuala are tired of hiding, of waiting, of remembering, of wondering; these ladies are "formidable, focused, fervent"; and they are ready for action. Commander Trace Weston and Chief Warrant Officer Boone Ramage are teamed with Information Specialist Houston Plunkett to keep these women alive, but it's obvious when they visit the apartment of deceased member Jessie Herring and find a cache of information about their mission-gone-bad, that "Misrata" has been anything but forgotten. Working undercover and re-tracing their steps leads them forward . . . . .into additional danger.
With quick, methodical precision, "Collateral Damage" raises as many questions as it answers, and the constant changes of scenes, characters and pace are quite the "rush" to read!!!!
Operation Zulu Redemption: Collateral Damage - Part 1 by Ronie Kendig
This serialization project is one of Kendig’s finest works! By the end of Collateral Damage, my heart rate was up and I could feel the anxiety building that surely these women would feel. They are brave and smart and vulnerable, not only in their current life threatening situation but also with the men in their lives. My curiosity is piqued and I am waiting with bated breath for the next installment. Thankfully, the wait isn't a long one. I know I am going to be shocked by who the ‘bad guy’ is, if it’s even a guy at all. At this point, I have no idea! The thrilling suspense really is an addictive adrenaline rush.
I was provided a copy from the publisher for review purposes. I am under no obligation to write a positive review, just my honest opinion of the book. No compensation has been received.
What is more exciting than reading about a Spec Ops team? Right—an all-female Special Forces team! Kendig created some strong characters in this latest work and kept the tension high.
After a mission gone very wrong, the members of the Zulu Special Forces team, are sent back to the United States and must take on a new identity as their lives are in danger. However, after five years they are found out and uncovered. Two team members end up dead and one is in a life-threatening condition. The other women are brought to a safe house. While trying to figure out who is after them, they run into a new dangerous situation. Will they once again escape from their attacker’s hand?
As always, Kendig has written an ‘on the edge of my seat’ tale that kept me turning the pages. Can’t wait to see how the series continues!
While part of me likes that this is a serialization and that we get a new addition to the story every week instead of every year, I'm not sure my heart can take the cliffhangers Ronie leaves us on! When I flipped the Kindle page and realized this installment was done and ended where it did, I yelled "what?!" I loved this installment and the further glimpse into these characters. I honestly can't pick a favorite, I feel invested in them all, and want to know more of their backstories and what their future holds. Ronie Kendig has a fantastic writing style that gets you so sucked in, you forget you're reading a fictional story and swear these character live around the corner. So excited for the next installment and more adrenaline rushes!
Part I of this new serial has the women of Zulu team in hiding. But hiding doesn't set well with them, especially when those they love are in danger. The women are determined to find out exactly what happened in Misrata 5 years before. Who is their enemy and why are they being silenced one by one?
Yes, I am hooked! I went and bought the next episode in the Zulu Redemption series today so I can find out what happens next. If you like edge of your seat excitement and action then this is definitely a serial for you!
I'm a definite fan of kick-butt female characters and am enjoying getting to know the women of Operation Zulu Redemption. Each woman brings different abilities and characteristics to the team and I am looking forward to seeing how everything turns out.
I'm really enjoying this series. I agree with another reviewer who said it was like watching a TV show. Each episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and then you have to wait for the next episode! Thankfully I didn't start reading this series until they were all available so I don't have to wait...lol. Well written, this story gives you plenty of action and mystery as well as romance. Love it!
If you enjoyed the teaser, Overkill: The Beginning, prepare yourself for the continuation. Ronie Kendig ups the suspense to a whole new level, and now the mission is personal. A master at cliffhangers, Kendig has left me clamoring for the next installment. These fascinating and unique heroes are becoming more and more like friends with each passing page.
When I finished Operation Zulu Redemption by Ronie Kendig, I couldn’t stop asking myself, “Why in the world did I wait so long to read this incredible story?” I loved the serialization and how we got to read from everyone’s point of view. I loved how it started with a bang and didn’t let up - ever. The only complaint I have is that it ended.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Ronie Kendig writes the best male characters! They are seriously amazing. In fact, this story has one of my favorite characters ever. The interesting thing is that he might be considered somewhat of a villain. I won’t say much more about him because of spoilers, but I would really love to see him get his own story! As for the non-villains in this story, I loved each and every one of them because they were all perfectly imperfect. And bonus! I was totally shocked at who the true villain was. As in I never saw it coming!
This story is not to be missed! The writing is stellar, the characters are memorable, and the storyline is original. Don’t miss this one! All the stars!!!
Heart-pounding suspense that will keep you guessing! Operation Zulu Redemption started with a prequel: Overkill. It began with a bang that had me on the edge of my seat and Ronie keeps the non-stop action going in this episode! I’ve heard a serial novelization compared to a television mini-series: a new “episode” each week and cliffhangers to keep you wanting more. Ronie definitely has the cliffhanger thing down! I was so engrossed in the story that when it ended I was going, “what?! No!” and berating myself for not already having the next part downloaded. The story pulled me in so completely that it took me a moment to get my bearings and remember where I was. The writing was wonderful, as always! I have no idea how Ronie kept up with everything and was able to switch view points so seamlessly, but I applaud her efforts nonetheless! The suspense was great, as previously noted, and kept me constantly guessing (which I loved)! Reading any of Ronie’s books is not for the faint of heart, though. They are real and raw in a way I’ve rarely seen. She crafts her words in such a way that draws you in and makes it seem as though you are actually there with them. I was under the apparent misconception that each part of the serial novel would focus on one of the remaining ladies, instead of following the whole team. I was very happy to find out that I was wrong! Even though I was confused a little at the beginning, trying to remember who was who (thank you, Ronie, for the character list), it would have been even harder had it just been one person. That would have made each installment seem tedious and difficult to follow, I think. In part one we get to know the members of team Zulu a bit better and watch them work together as a team, again. We also find out more about what happened to sideline them to begin with. Ronie has a knack for creating realistic characters that get into your heart and refuse to let you go! I loved getting to know each person, figuring out what makes them stand apart from the others, discovering loyalties, and learning their strengths and weaknesses. There are so many view points that I finally grabbed a notepad and wrote down who everyone was so I wouldn’t have to keep flipping back to the character list. Once I got caught up, I came to really appreciate having all those different opinions and views, as it gave a more complete picture of what was going on. I can totally understand why there are 4 parts and a prequel to this series - the story is so complex, I’m sure the author needed all of them to bring everything back around! I really enjoyed this episode and will hopefully be reading the rest of them very soon! I received a free download of this book from the publisher for my honest review, which I have given. I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
Picking up where Overkill left off, Collateral Damage gives us some more insight into what happened five years earlier in Misrata and caused Zulu to go into hiding.
Once more, Ronie gives action and mystery and manages to subtly add depth to the story as well as the characters themselves. As we learn more about the characters, you begin to root for your favorites to come out on top. Yes, you like all of them, but there's always one or two that you specifically want to come out on top or in the best case scenario for them.
The aftermath of Misrata still hasn't really disappeared even after five years and the girls were all effected deeply, some effects not showing as well as others. Collateral Damage takes us deeper into how the girls dealt with the aftermath and how they are still continuing to deal and attempt to move on.
The present is filled with danger and close calls as Zulu investigates what happened in Misrata as well as who found them and took out two of their own.
And I have to say, I knew General Solomon knew more than he was letting on! He may even be deeper involved than I originally thought too...
I don't know whether to be glad or exasperated that this is a serialized novel. On the one hand, I'm not sure my heart could take it all at once, and I KNOW I wouldn't be able to put it down. On the other hand, waiting a week between each installment is already about to make me crazy! While the FREE teaser/prologue Overkill: The Beginning was heart-stopping, Kendig was just getting warmed up! Collateral Damage plunges the reader straight into the non-stop action--and the emotion!--of this fast-paced thriller. Not a scene or word is wasted as the story unfolds and the team's lives unravel. Pulsating, intense, and sure to leave you gasping for breath Collateral Damage is a top-priority reading assignment. Don't miss it!
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a copy of this this e-book from Ronie Kendig and Barbour Publishing as part of a blog tour. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
While this is labeled “Part 1,” it really comes after “The Beginning.” It’s a little confusing. I’ll list the parts of this serial novel in order at the bottom of the review.
This second installment kept me just as riveted as the first one did. The action is intense. I felt like I got to know the characters better. They acted in ways that felt true to what I knew of them. The villain gets more press in this section and there is an ominous sense as you wonder if it’s someone you’ve already met in the story or not.
Thank you to Barbour and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this installment for the purpose of this review. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the serial novel soon!
Operation Zulu Redemption: The Beginning
Operation Zulu Redemption: Collateral Damage – Part 1
Operation Zulu Redemption: Out of Nowhere – Part 2
Operation Zulu Redemption: Hazardous Duty – Part 3
Operation Zulu Redemption: Act of Treason – Part 4
The adrenaline rush continues with the first full length episode Collateral Damage (released July 18th). The plot thickens as the team scrambles to get their bearings and determine just who has placed a giant target on their backs. For the reader this is where the details start to fill in, the personalities of the characters become more prominent, and the interactions amongst them burst to life. Ronie Kendig has assembled a top-notch cast of characters with great synergy. Each has an intricate backstory that is revealed through this first episode. Annie’s Navy SEAL heartthrob and Téya’s Amish beau make it difficult for these ladies to remain in hiding – my favorite aspect of the story so far. The queen of cliff-hangers, Ronie Kendig has me waiting with bated breath for Part 2 – Out of Nowhere!
The Drama Continues .... If the introduction episode wasn't enough to get you hooked this one will definitely do it. Now we get to see the women begin to fight back. They are tired of being manipulated by circumstances. They are highly trained and they want their freedom back. Let the action begin!
On top of getting to know more about each character, there are questions arising about who was really behind the incident 5 years ago. Who can we really trust? Are the "good guys" really who they say they are? I am thoroughly enjoying this series, but for those who are in at the beginning it's not an easy wait for the next instalment. Anyone being introduced to this series once it is all released will not have the agony of having to wait a week. Although I suppose patience is a virtue.
Now this is a story that is an absolute teaser and I dot recommend reading just one part of it if you can’t afford the whole series. I started with Overkill and Part One and now it won’t leave my head because I’m all too curious about the rest of the story, what will happen to Teya and David? Will she ever be able to return to him? What about Annie? Will her dear Navy Seal come join the team or will Trace manage to reawake the feelings in her that never died in him? What about Boone and Kelsey? So much is going on…so much is still threatened.. I can’t wait to finish the series and calm my worries about all these characters that Ronnie managed to create so real that they seem tangible and close like people you really know.. Such a talent!!! Disclaimer: I have received a free copy of this book from the Publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for my honest opinion.
Goodness gracious, the suspense is killing me! Fantastic, nail-biting action once again. What is left of Team Zulu is in hiding, but trying to track down who started this. During it all – the nightmare that shoved them into hiding keeps haunting them from every corner. It seems the only way to find answers might be to open all those wounds back up! Great interactions and dialogue between all the characters. I really love how Ronie gives each one a distinct personality and their own story, which you find out more about each one in this installment. It is just as explosively awesome as the first. Digging a little deeper, the team finds out some people may not be the good guys. They also decide hiding is a little too restrictive! You have to read it to find out what happens!
Talk about intense! This is the first serial novel I've read, and it was an interesting format. It felt like a TV drama episode, how it kept switching between points of view to keep the pace fast-moving. The premise of an all-female special forces team definitely caught my attention, and the author made it seem realistic by not making them all best buddies, but individual soldiers with distinctly different strengths and personalities. There is plenty of action and suspense, with some relationship drama thrown in at moments. It was frustrating at first how little the investigating team knew about the case after five years, but each part of the novel quickly adds more information and takes the plot to a whole new level.
This is another action packed installment. We learn more about the deadly incident five years ago and we learn more about the characters. We meet some new ones too, and at least one of them is hiding something about that incident. We are left with another cliffhanger at the end! See my full review at http://bit.ly/1u40EOk. I received a complimentary egalley of this installment from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
Fast pace trying to catch a breath n bullets are flying, emotions come to the front, but hey we are human not drones... We met the bad guy but who is he ???? Will the girls make a trip to Paris. Making money from a charity seems suss?? especially since they didn't help Michelle on that fateful day 5 yrs ago n Sam wants answers.. ready for next instalment
The story continues to race along as we get to know the characters more, understand a little more about what happened 5 years ago, and find the survivors are being chased by more than one adversary.
It was hard to put down and on finishing this episode I quickly jumped into the next one.
Highly trained women soldiers being hunted, their past has them and their loved ones in danger, and they're on a mission to find the culprits behind it all. Fast pace and full of action...a book I couldn't put down!
