I'm a huge fan of literary collections by journalists, especially if they've inspired movies.
Aaron Latham's work is an excellent snapshot of America in the 1970s-80s, and two of his best works - The Ballad of the Urban Cowboy and Perfect - were blockbusters starring John Travolta.
Laatham's writing is lively as he deftly profiles real-life characters with wit and a critical eye.
Urban Cowboy evolved from a piece he wrote about the famous Gilley's honky-tonk in Houston, Tex. while Perfect skewered the media's fascination with health clubs.
