A word from J.D. –

We all have certain things that flick our arousal switches. Take suit porn, arm porn, tattoos, muscles, a particular cologne, facial hair, a nice arse, eye colour, dominance, submissiveness … the list is practically endless. This series is dedicated to all of the ladies out there who find extreme dirty talk a turn on. I’m not just talking regular dirty talk, oh no. I’m talking downright filthy and, to the narrow-minded and ignorant, it may be seen as offensive or derogatory. In reality, it’s anything but.

It’s play, pure and simple … a scene … seduction for the initiated and strictly limited to a couple’s sexcapades. It has no bearing on how he treats his women outside of the bedroom, or any other women in his life. Of course, society at large frowns upon anything that deviates from the ‘norm’. Those women must be freaks … the men, controlling abusers. But hey, while the judgemental, upstanding members of the community are busy getting their knickers in a twist, the filthy talkers are busy charming the knickers off their women with a few well-chosen words.

In this series, I also wanted to show that dominant alpha males with those delectable filthy mouths exist outside of the BDSM lifestyle. They don’t have to be billionaires either. Nor members of a motorcycle club or the mafia. Ladies, they walk amongst us in many guises so if a filthy talking alpha is your thang … keep your eyes open! And if extreme dirty talk isn’t your bag, walk on by and please refrain from insulting those who do get off on a filthy mouth. Personally, I’d never knock anything until I’d tried it … at least three times!

So please, don’t judge! Because here’s the thing, nobody is going to judge you if Xander gets you all hot under the collar … and various other places.

Enjoy! JD xx

Feisty redhead, Isla Hamilton, is the ambitious Assistant General Manager of a luxury Kensington hotel. When the hotel is sold, she is desperate to become the new General Manager. There’s just one problem standing in her way, and it’s standing over six feet tall - the king of arrogance and inappropriateness, Xander Rhodes. Her mind hates his obnoxious, godlike presence but, no matter how hard she fights it, her body reacts to his distinct style of directness, particularly his dirty mouth, and maintaining a professional distance soon becomes difficult.

Events from the recent past haunt her, forcing her to swear that she’ll never give another man a chance to hurt her. But Xander isn’t interested in commitment, he’s too busy battling his own demons that are shrouded in secrecy so he can’t hurt her, right? When he warns her that spending the night with him would only make her crave him like an addiction, she is sceptical and determined to prove him wrong. If anything, she’d make him crave her.

But will she be ready to handle the fallout if she succeeds?

Warning: adult content - dirty talk and hot sex may offend the prudish!

Short bio: UK based, bestselling Indie author of contemporary romance … otherwise known as elegantly filthy erotica. Shoeaholic. Introvert. Prude. Teetotaler. Compulsive Liar ... well, not about the shoes. I never lie about shoes!!

UK bestselling author of the Passion Noire, Rouge Passion and Orion the Hunter series. Not your average romance novelist ... but then, who wants to be average?

I love reading - almost as much as I love writing.. I relish the sheer escapism of losing myself in a book that grips me and takes me on an emotional roller coaster. I regularly mourn the passing of a good book - am I the only one who turns the pages more slowly when you don’t want a great book to end?

I love a good steamy romance and I adore sexy alpha males. I also have more than a passing interest in BDSM (nod, nod … wink, wink). One day, I put pen to paper (well fingers to keyboard, actually) and the Orion the Hunter series was born. Little did I know that, at that moment, I was sewing the seeds of change. For, just a few months later, as a somewhat bewildered Amazon Kindle bestselling Indie author, I quit my career as an education professional to write full time. Scary stuff, I think you’ll agree.

2013 was a very difficult year for me for personal reasons. It taught me how fragile life is and how important it is to grab it with both hands and ride the hell out of it. So in 2014, I began my comeback with the Amazon #1 Bestselling Erotica/Romantic Erotica bestselling series, Rouge Passion. I also met many of my favourite authors and so many lovely readers at my first signing event in Edinburgh. I flipped Stu Reardon’s kilt! Happy days …

I have big plans for 2015. I’m signing at several more author events around the UK and I’m pouring my heart and soul into what I consider my best series yet - by far! Cue Passion Noire, a three part series revolving around La Veuve Noire - a sexual therapist by day and a desirable Domme by night. But fear not, sexy alphas are still on the menu. I mean … this is me!

Title: "The Player" (Rouge Passion series, book 1)
Author: J.D. Chase

Format: Electronic book. *--> NOTE: A FREE ELECTRONIC COPY OF THIS BOOK WAS GENEROUSLY PROVIDED BY THE PUBLISHER IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW, VIA
NETGALLEY! <--*

Published: Smashwords Edition, 2014.

Genre: fiction, adult fiction, explicit sex/sexual situations & sexual innuendos, frequent swearing, use of "shaming/criticisms" in sexual situations, erotica, drama.

My rating (1-5 scale): 2.75-3 stars.

Brief remarks:

'The Player' is set in London and is written in British prose, which I often struggle with reading for some reason. Odd-I know! I do NOT base my rating on this personal shortcoming though-that would be ridiculously unfair indeed. Maybe it's just the lifetime "Midwest" in me! ;)

This story was centered around a female MC (Isla) working as a manager at a boutique hotel; a job which she was way over qualified to be performing and for which she was underpaid accordingly...but she was left in a situation of having to work SOMEWHERE after a cohabiting relationship completely imploded in her life.

We begin with a sudden, unexpected change of ownership of the hotel which naturally had the staff in an uproar. The new owner chose to purchase the hotel anonymously which added an extra layer of anxiety to the mix. Personally, I liked that twist. ;)

This reader was not surprised when our MC & this new owner (Xander, "just Xander"), end up attracted to one another and quickly end up "shagging" (Ha! I did it! I used the term correctly! I'm really NOT good at that AT ALL!) soon.

The sex! The sex was uber intense and very steamy, which was great, but for this reader it was waaaayyyy toooooooo verbose! I like dirty talk in the bedroom, especially in a steamy novel, as much as anyone yet the paragraph long explanations by Xander as to why he always, yes ALWAYS, pillow talks that way, really took a lot away from the action, imo. I also seem to have a bit of a "trigger" when the dirty talk turns to or includes the Male/Dominant referring to his partner as a "whore" or "slut" OVER AND OVER. To this reader, that is not sexy, no matter how many times the dude claims to mean it to be.
--------- Here is a quote from the first sex scene with Isla and Xander; this is right after he had demanded she strip then specifically pose for him: "Oh, you dirty bitch," he whispered from right behind her. "You beautiful, sexy, dirty bitch." < -------
Of course, Isla was shocked by his unexpected name calling but she kept it to herself as he pleasured her quite nicely ;). X was also kind to her in that she was insecure about her "size 16 body" that he said was "beautiful; made for fucking". That was cool. However, as the scenes played out throughout the book - both the sex and otherwise - I found myself cringing and anxious-feeling over those types of words. I'm not conservative at all, but for some reason, the repetitiveness of "your whore cunt" and the like just made me uncomfortable. Hell. I feel like a prude admitting this! Lol.

I am certain my discomfort is just that trigger feeling based on my own negative experience(s). Honestly, I am bummed to admit that these feelings really took away from any back story enjoyment for me. I guess I just was NOT the best person to read this book. That stinks, too as it is well written by an obviously talented and experienced author!

"The Player" is not J.D.C.'s first novel; she has also written a four book series: "Orion the Hunter", which I am looking forward to reading. I'll probably put Isla and Xander's story aside for a while though, but I am curious to see what ends up happening considering where Book 1 ends! Sorta cliff-hanger there!!!

If you're considering reading this book and/or the series, I would ask if you REALLY like steamy, explicit sex scenes? (Yes!); do you enjoy dirty bedroom talk? (Yes); are you okay with the dirty talk becoming a bit rougher or vulgar and including name calling such as "whore" and "slut", for example? (Alas, that's where I disappoint myself and bow out; SIGH). If you're lucky enough to have a good comfort level with those three items, the lengthy explanations by Xander as he uses the naughty names, etcetera will likely not bother you at all and hopefully you'll really enjoy this story! I wish you the best and TRULY hope so!

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. Thank you NetGalley for he opportunity to do so.

Cheers!
Lisa (@NurseLisainOhio).

*** 3 Dirty Talk Stars ***

I don't mind dirty talk, but this was just overkill. I couldn't get into the book because it was too distracting.

description

Isla left a long time relationship because her boyfriend cheated on her. Since then she gave up on men and loathed the unfaithful. As assistant general manager at a hotel, she was determined to make an impression to get promoted. Her life consisted of work, work, and more work.

Suddenly the hotel was sold to a sex craving man. He was going to make big changes in the hotel and in Isla's life. There's lots of dirty talking sex. If you're into that kind of stuff, you might like this more than I did.

The story was alright, and I already started on the 2nd book. **Crossing my fingers that I don't roll my eyes**

I loved this book. It was a brilliant read that I found difficult to put down and as such I read it quite quickly. A word of warning though: this book ends in an almighty cliffhanger that made me want to throw my kindle at the wall!!

"The Player" follows the story of Isla and Xander. Isla was a feisty redhead who was intelligent and ambitious. She worked hard in her job at a top London hotel, determined to make her way to the top one day. So when hot new hotel owner "Xander" came along she was ready to impress. And impress she did!

I truly liked Isla, despite being burnt by her cheating ex-boyfriend, she continued to get on with life and was adamant that she would succeed and not wallow in self pity. Isla refused to get tangled in another relationship so when she met Xander, he was just the type of guy she needed. He offered smoking hot sex with no commitment. Who was going to say no to that? I also loved the fact that Isla was not the usual stick thin girl, she was curvy, with a good sized bottom and pair of boobs that made Xander crazy. Isla was a real woman that I could totally connect with.
"You have a fantastic body, so much better than all of those waifish types. And I am telling you this, curves with confidence is a heady combination that'll give any man the erection of a lifetime. "

Xander was a sexy, domineering man who had a foul mouth that left me feeling a little uncomfortable. I usually love a dirty talker but some of the words that came out of his mouth I just didn't find sexy at all.
"You dirty fucking bitch. You filthy, amazing, beautiful bitch. Your juices are in my mouth, my nose, my eyes and even in my ears! All I can taste and smell is you, you filthy wonderful creature."

I think it was when Xander called Isla a "Dirty bitch" that made feel a little awkward. Sorry J.D, Chase, those words just didn't do it for me! Despite this there was something about Xander that intrigued me, I was captivated by him and I wanted to know more. As I progressed through the story it became clear that Xander had secrets that he was hiding from Isla and I wondered what was going on with him. I was eager to get some answers.

So Isla and Xander met and were hugely attracted to each other. The sexual tension between the couple was hot and I couldn't wait until they gave into their desires. Thankfully I didn't have to wait long!
He riled her, intoxicated her, frustrated her confused her, but worst of all, he aroused her.

What ensued was a passionate affair with some scorching sex scenes between the couple. Xander certainly knew what to do in the bedroom and Isla was having the time of her life! LOL.
"Fuck me, Xander. Fuck me into the mattress and then fuck me some more. Fuck me until I can barely walk into work. Then every time I move today, I'll feel where you're cock has rubbed me sore."

This couple were not all about their bedroom antics though, they were also a fabulous team in the workplace too. Isla and Xander were a perfect match. They were just what the other needed. Neither promised anything long term and I loved how Isla, despite her feelings growing for him, never asked for more or attempted to change him. Isla just accepted the circumstances and got on with it. I loved Isla and Xander and I was rooting for them throughout the whole story.
"Red, I fucking need you like the earth needs the sun. I know it's fucking mental. I've only just met you but you get me, Red. You take me on toe-to-toe when I'm being an arrogant fuck. You trust me to do unmentionable things to your body and, not only that, you enjoy it at least as much as as I do, and that is mind blowing for me."

As the end of the book fast approached I realized that I wasn't ready for story to end. There was still so many questions that needed answering and then it happened. A huge curve ball that I was not expecting. What a way to end!!! Bring on book two, I can't bloody wait!!

The Player gets 4.5 smoking hot hearts from me.

3.75 filthy, dirty stars

Isla Hamilton had been working for 6 months as assistant to the GM of a 5 star hotel in London. She had previously occupied the position of a stockbroker, but that had ended along with her relationship very abruptly. She was a fire headed, ball breaker, who suffered no fools, but had become increasingly frustrated when her ideas to improve the hotel's bottom line, had been persistently ignored.

Out of the blue, news comes that the current GM has retired and that a new owner is apparent. In walks Xander Rhodes, with an air of confidence, arrogance and pure gorgeousness. With his steely stare and double entendres, he woos Isla into a world she's never visited before, and now she's hooked.

"Yes, he was arrogant sometimes, frustrating quite often, knicker-wettingly filthy definitely.."

I enjoyed the fiery foreplay of this couple, and then the dirty, dirty, dirty talk. Isla was all in with the fast paced, intense hookups, whilst Xander was cagily reticent...and not long until we find out why. Story flowed well, but I did find the many sex scenes a little repetitive at times.

Will definitely read on to see how the fallout is handled.

Simple questions..

1. Do you like Dominating men?
2. Dirty talk do it for you?
3. Smut fan?
4. Like a good storyline?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you should read this book.

Xander is a mysterious man. We learn a bit about him, but there is more he skirts around. He distracts us with Sex. Yes I know he actaully distracts Isla but you get what I mean.

He comes in out of nowhere - takes over the hotel. Starts fucking the shit out of Isla. But all of it has to be a secret.
Why? well we don't know yet.

But after the way it ended.. I really want to find out!

JD Chase has given a great start to this series. We are invested in Isla and Xander story. It's written winderfully with a great flow. I will say to start with it was a bit flat for me, but it soon picked up!

The ending is not exactly a gasping cliffhanger... but what the hell is she smirking about and whats going to happen next ending.

~3.5 to 4 dirty STARS~

Heyoo! Okay first, I read the box set in exchange of a honest review!

Second I was intrigued to read this book because I read the author's note... and what I thought was a he, actually was a she talking about extremely dirty talk and I was really intrigued.

She warned me, the author did her job warning me... but I kept reading because yolo.

And... *drums* I don't know what to say really. If you're expecting a review about how much this and that, I think I will do a clean version.

I'm torn between like and love this book. I sure was intrigued by what she said but I felt a little offended.
Anyway, these books are really good and I liked them so much. The first one was really entertaining and kinda funny, thought the second one I felt it a little off...
I got what she meant about Isla being a feisty red head, but did she fight for what she wanted in the second book? That's the thing about my feelings toward this book. Book one leave you in a major cliffhanger and a good sensation in your blood... then the second book is kinda hot and a little meh, cause Xander started acting really different in the second book and I didn't feel it like himself, neither Isla.

Is like the guy you like and the guy you love together in a room alone with you. What would be your reaction? Is that even possible?

And about the dirty talk... She WARNED me, she warn every reader. And *sigh* I came with an open mind, and still I felt really uncomfortable, there are women out there who get off being called bitch? If you are one of them, ma'am I respect you... In my language that means perra and no, just no, come on! you know what I mean, and whoa... the extremely dirty talk was weird. I like to read about alpha men who know how to use their mouth, but Xander? He was too much for me!

I still enjoyed this book! It wasn't bad at all. But for God's sake, you've been warned, and if you want to read it... have an open mind.

Let me just start by saying this is not my kind of book, this is not the kind of stories I like reading but this one deserves 5 stars for how good of a story it is and for being well written.
I liked the characters but in the beginning I really didn't like Xander, he was arrogant and I don't like men like him. I also dislike dirty talkers, they are just not my kind of book boyfriend but if there is ever an award for the best dirty talker ever I believe Xander could win it hands down. I have never read a book with a dirty talker like him and I have read plenty. He made me blush several times and my eyes looked like saucers most of the time while reading the sex scenes. This author can sure write good sex scenes. Super hot!
The story is fast paced with lots of sex, and I really mean it. If you like your stories to be on the scorching side this is definitely the one to pickup and read. This story is as steamy as they come.
The author ended the story with a big of a surprise to those who had not suspected already, I have to admit it had crossed my mind, Xander had too many secrets to my liking so I knew something big was coming and I had already thought it could be that.
I am going to start reading book 2 right now because I want to know how the author will fix this issue or if it was true in the first place.
I also want to know more about Xander and I am hoping Jamie doesn't make too many appearances in this part of the story because when he called Isla a cow I wanted to kill him. I don't know the slang they use over there and maybe cow is not as bad as it sounds but to me it was the biggest insult ever and I wanted Isla to slap him. I also want Dean to find love, I really like his character.
*** I will recommend this book to all the ladies that like a very dirty talker and super hot sex scenes. Not for the faint of heart ***

Well, lovers of the erotic romance, this is for you. I enjoyed Isla & Xander's first chapter even though I would have loved a little more insight put into their characters. The sex scenes were hot BUT all the dirty talk got a bit old and repetitive for me. I found myself rolling my eyes quite a bit, but it was easy to overlook that because I found Xander an interesting and enigmatic character. Also, I loved that Isla is a curvy woman and not super model thin. You don't find 'imperfect' heroines in books very often. Kudos to the author for that. I found her character lovable and I am glad we got to know her character a little more towards the last third of the book.
3.75 Stars from me.
Will be reading the next part.

When I first started this book I thought it was just going to be sex, sex and more sex. (so this book isn't for people that don't like erotica)

Once you get over the first few chapters and you get used to the characters, the story unfolds. Isla and Xander go from having a love hate relationship to tearing each others clothes off.

Xander has secrets and signs the new hotel over to Isla. Only for her to find out at the end that he is a married man.

It looks like she is plotting her revenge for book 2

FIVE AMAZING STARS

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall for Kindle Friends Forever

Oh my goodness me! What a read, what a plot and a half and be warned, if you’re easily offended by four letters words and explicitly described sex, this book isn't for you. It was for me!

Roll on size sixteen! Meet Isla. She’s a curvaceously attractive redhead with a witty sense of humour who doesn't take any crap from anyone and gives as much as she gets! Hard-working, ambitious and wary of the opposite sex from a past experience, is about to change her way of thinking. The luxurious hotel where she works as Deputy General Manager in the heart of Kensington has been sold. Why the new owner’s name hasn't been revealed is unsettling for all the employees and more so for Isla who has had her eye on the General Manager’s position.

Xander takes the helm. This man makes the word arrogant seem underrated. He’s curt, obnoxiously offensive, sex on legs and even though their strong personalities clash, they both have something in common. An overwhelming attraction for each other. The author describes the leading characters in a plot which has you guessing as to why he’s so secretive throughout the book to perfection. This godlike man has such a dirty mouth and I loved it! The only way for him to release his pent up frustrations is to have hot wild sex with her wherever and whenever and boy oh boy, is she game to play along! As long as there’s no emotional strings attached, their mutual sexual obsession is under control. But not everything is what it seems to be in a story which is unravelled at a steady pace.

At one point, the secondary characters made me think of the English series in the 70’s, Faulty Towers! The barman is adorable, the two receptionists christened the Barbie dolls by Isla feed on gossip and are constantly vying for Xander’s attention, and the banter between them all is fan-bloody-tastic!

Towards the end of this brilliantly written book, I had a vague suspicion that the cliffy was going to leave me dangling. Dangle, I did! Oh yes… I felt overwhelmingly outraged and it took a lot of control not to throw my kindle out the window.

I read this novel in one sitting, lost sleep over it and wrote this review at silly o'clock! This is the first book I have read by Ms. Chase and it definitely won’t be the last. The grammar is faultless, the storyline totally absorbing and I can’t wait to read The Redeemer: Part Two of the Rouge Passion Series this coming autumn. I am now a fan of yours Ms. Chase! Bravo!

2 difficult stars!!!!

The idea of the story was good! I mean you have a woman and a man and both of them they have some baggage until they meet and something goes on between them. The writing on the other hand was really difficult and distant for me. I will be specific. The book is written on 3rd person. So, it's like someone else says the story of Xander and Isla. The problem was that the sentences were quite long and confusing among "he said" and "she explained that"....it's a book. It has to draw you in, not to push you away and that's how I felt. I didn't feel at all connected with the heroes and I couldn't even understand their attaction.

Ilsa is supposed to be self-confident and good in her job and most of the times I've felt her lost with everything and everyone around her. When we could read her thoughts, they were not showing someone strong and sure of themselves. I get it that she was not supposed to show any weakness to anyone but the whole thing was totally out of control.

Xander is supposed to be a Alpha guy and he didn't feel like that at all. Apparently he is really good in sex and he has a dirty mouth but nothing else. One moment he was saying something and after 2 - 3 pages he was doing something to cancel it. I thought he was a bit psycho with his mood swings and his reactions that they weren't making any sense to me!

Their interaction was also a mess. One moment they couldn't say a word and the next one they were touching each other. I mean to go from point A to point X, it was 10 pages! And that brings me back to the writing. Events were taking place but they were described like summary...."he told her that he couldn't see her this week..." I'd have liked to have some interaction instead of "he" and "she" thing. Also their discussions were messy...Even the sex scenes didn't feel excited to me. This again is personal taste I suppose and I cannot take any points out because of this. But I honestly missed the connection between them.

The end was predicable and clear to me 2 - 3 chapters before it took place. It was supposed to be a cliffhanger but I don't see myself reading the next book.

The Player is one heck of a hot, steamy, explosive book that doesn't half grip you and keep you reading until the very last page. If you don't like very, very dirty talk then this book is definitely not for you. This book was smoking! The characters had a great connection and even though they may have been a tad frustrating, you were drawn into the story and basically hanging on every word.

Isla has been through a bad relationship that ended due to her boyfriends affair. Due to this, she struggles and is hesitant to get close to people and start a relationship. To get over the heartache she throws herself into her job and is aiming for the top spot, until this is taken by the man that is Xander Rhodes. He is one heck of a guy. Persistent, crude, possessive, very self assured and the kind of temptation that Isla knows she needs to resist but just can't seem to help herself...

Even though it is seen in a lot of books, I loved the instant attraction that these two had. Neither wants more from the other than one night, but somehow both are able to see past the images that both like to maintain. Xander sees that Isla isn't like all the other women, there is something about her and he cant help himself, whereas Isla can see past the tough exterior of Xander and into the man inside. Can they both play the game or will it all crumble and leave them hurt and alone?

These two together were so good and the chemistry was intense, there were some very real moments in the book and I found myself enjoying every page. The underlying plot will leave you intrigued and guessing throughout but it is so, very worth it. I cannot wait for the second instalment of this book to see how their story plays out. Can they both come out on top of this game? This is my first JD Chase book but it certainly wont be the last. Loved it.

Whoa! Dirty talk has never really been a love of mine, but I have to say... Xander Rhodes excels at it. He is one pervy bastard but I'm hooked! It takes much to make me blush but The Player certainly did that, and more! Someone open the fucking window in this train cabin. Oh yeah... I'm on a train right now to London, to coincidentally spend the day with this author among a few others and I'm going to bill her for new underwear, although I will hug her too for putting a goofy dreamy smile on my face.

The synopsis covers this book perfectly and it's not a long read so if you are looking for a book that guarantees to get you a lot hot under the collar with a dirty talking, sexual manipulative hotel owning extraordinaire then this book is for you. It's filthy though so if you are somewhat of a wallflower then you may want to leave this little baby on the shelf.

The heroine gives as good as she gets and I love her open mindedness. She's not afraid of flaunting her UK size 16 curves and I love her for it and for the author of giving us a more realistic beauty who rides cock like a rodeo princess but rocks a suit in high end hotel management. A woman after my own heart!

I did guess the ending outcome a good few chapters before the end, but it will be interesting to see how Isla plays this new hand she has been dealt. She holds all the power and I can't wait to see how she wields it.

Pure adulterated filthy fun!

There's nothing worse that clashing with a new boss - a sexy, arrogant one - but this is exactly the situation Isla finds herself in.

She's ambitious and trying to pull herself out of a post break-up funk. She's determined to get her life back on track and impress the new boss in order to get the promotion she feels should be hers.

However, she was not expecting Xander! He's tall, obnoxious, hot and utterly infuriating, leading to some heated clashes.

With both Isla and Xander hiding something, trust is not easily come by but passion - steamy, dirty passion - oozes in abundance.

I didn't really connect with the characters. There's no doubt that Xander is hot, hot, hot and his tongue is to die for but for me there was just something missing. I can only guess that because I guessed his secret quite early on, that maybe that affected the way I feel about him. I just can't put my finger on it...

However, I DID enjoy the story and it's brilliantly written, in perfect JD Chase style. It's so descriptive but not "flowery" or with superfluous details and I'll be digging straight into book #2.

1.5-2 stars...

Isla Hamilton works at the Kensington Hotel as an Assistant General Manager. She's been working her tail off to move up the ranks, and a major road-block just moved in: a new owner. As she struggles with the stress of not knowing what/how/when the new owner will makes his moves, she's blindsided by her instant attraction to her new boss.

Xander Rhodes is the new owner of the Kensington Hotel. He reeks of money, arrogance, and dominance. He's instantly attracted to his new feisty, red-headed AGM. Will he be able to keep his secrets and walls up while persuading her to his bed.

I struggled through the book; could not feel one way or the other for the characters. The story seemed to drag on and on, and only sprinkled with hot and funny parts. I finally had to throw in the towel at Chapter 10; it just wasn't doing it for me. I'm all for dominant/arrogant bosses, and feisty females, but this book did absolutely nothing for me.

There's dirty talk and then there's dirty talk. But this is just plain filthy:

"You dirty fucking bitch. You filthy, amazing, beautiful bitch. Your juices are in my mouth, my nose, my eyes and even in my ears! All I can taste and smell is you, you filthy wonderful creature."

I personally don't find it sexy so I admit that I skipped a few parts. I also think that there were a couple of conversations between Isla and Xander which sounded so mundane and awkward considering they were about to have sex.

This book started out well and then it felt a bit redundant around the middle. But man oh man, that bombshell right at the end made me so excited (and so mad at Xander!) for the sequel! And as much as Xander's the typical domineering hero, Isla's an awesome character. No annoying, whiny, doormat moments for this girl.

I read this after a recommendation from a friend and i've been kicking myself for not reading it sooner. I love a dirty talking, secretive, sweet man and, for me personally, Xander met my expectations. The story kept my interest throughout, although i will say there are a LOT of dirty, dirty sex scenes in it(i'm not complaining, just pointing it out incase that's not your thing). I actually liked Isla, loved her stubborn streak the most, and was rooting for her throughout the book. I loved Dean and would have liked to of seen more of him. The ending....I'm reserving judgement on, all i'll say is i can't wait for the next book.

ok this book was hot ... and I mean HOT ... sex is one of the biggest parts in this book but J.D. Chase is really good in that regard.
but unfortunately not so good in regard to the character development and the plot.
the "big surprise" at the end was not really a surprise and for me quite obvious. and to be honest ... althoug I do understand the motivation I did not lik Islas reaction.
Her character was very difficult for me as she comes across as very childish - especially in the beginning.

another thing: this is not a stand-alone and it has a cliffhanger (what I hate)

Thank you for creating Xander Rhodes !
He is the dirtiest, filthiest and sexiest talker that I've ever read .
he's a player and he storms into 'Red' Isla Hamilton 's life snd scatters her life apart with his extreme sexual prowess and his filthy mouth.
I'm all shades of red just reading it !
he is hiding something , vanishing for days, returning with cash, arriving unannounced at her place and taking her on every surface of her home, leaving her sated, exhausted , but confused because she can't get past his barriers.
He's torn , anguished one minute, loving , devouring next minute.
let's see what is in store in book 2 -Redeemer !

The Player is one heck of a hot, steamy, explosive book that doesn't half grip you and don't let go to the very end. If you don't Like dirty talk then this book is not for you.
The 2 main Characters Xander and Isla together was intense steamy and Hot! there was some very real moments in the book you could relate too but i enjoyed every word I can not wait for the next book to see how the story plays out

3.75 Stars. This story is told from the heroine's POV. I liked both MC's, the story is entertaining, the sex is very steamy and raunchy. The heroine is feisty and the hero has a REALLY DIRTY mouth during sex. All in all, it is entertaining read with plenty of sexy times and likable characters. I look forward to reading book two.

Gosh I forgot to review this last year when I read it. I enjoyed The Player but his ways were just too over the top for me - it took it from erotic to carry on 'oh err matron' in my head.

Sorry it's not a more in depth review but nearly a year later, that's all that stuck with me, well that and her resemblance to Jessica Rabbit.

I have to say I found the story intriguing. The only thing I didn't care for was the way the wording switched between panties and knickers. I just don't see knickers sexy at all. Didn't see very many misspellings which is good.. I'm not used to UK words which that is on me not the the author. I look forward in seeing where the story goes. I rate this book a 4.9
